A/N:
@bbbk027: He could use it. He could use every technique he has, just not the full blast of X-burner since he doesn't have his gloves, and the ones which he needs Natsu with. And no need to apologize when you have questions. Feel free to raise them.
@Happy Korokoro: Hahaha! Thank you.
@ramamiss: Awtsu. I'm sorry. I'll try harder sometime...? But I hope you enjoyed it still.
@Amaryllis Flick: Tsuna is too good for his own good. Hahaha.
@Lily3nna: Aw.. Thank you.
Here is the second update of the week. I hope (fingers crossed) you'll like it.
Just a small question though: How can you un-miss someone you should be angry with?
Anyway, go on. Shoo! Hahaha!
Chapter Sixteen
"Really?" He exclaimed, eyes wide in shock.
Shouta nodded with a smile. "Recovery Girl said so herself. She'll be taking out my bandages and casts tomorrow."
Tsuna can't help himself from jumping up and down from the news. After a grueling four weeks, his Dad will be able to move freely again. Not that Tsuna is complaining about helping Shouta. He's more than honoured to help his Dad. However, it's painful for him to see his Dad uncomfortable in doing things. Whenever he hears him groaning in frustrations for being unable to do what he wants, like changing the channels or holding his mug. Shouta won't say it, but Tsuna knows.
Shouta mollified him from his happy dance. Although mortified, his Dad looked amused at how happy he is. They both know how the hero craves to go patrolling again. Nightly duties are always for vigilantes.
"We should celebrate tomorrow then." He mused, taking a paper. "I should start listing out what to buy for tomorrow. I'll invite Uncle Hizashi too."
"Can't we celebrate alone? Just the two of us?" Shouta groaned.
He faced his Dad and gave the most deadpan expression he can muster. "No."
"How in heck can you give the most passive expression?"
"Because I have to practice it when you don't want to have people over." He answered as he kneeled on the carpet to get the notepad and pen on the middle of the center table. "I'm regretting teaching you things."
"It's not my fault I'm a fast learner." Shouta bit back, smirking.
"I should be glad that I'm a good teacher to a fast learner then." He countered, writing 'cake' on top of the list.
He saw his Dad roll his eyes at his peripheral. "Why do you always have cake on top of the list?"
"Because we celebrate with cakes." He answered while listing more ingredients. "Have you tried American spaghetti, Dad?"
"Is it nice?"
"It's one of the things you'll probably like." He listed the things he needed. "An exchange of carbs from the usual rice. But it can be a snack too."
"Let's try it."
Tsuna was about to write 'spaghetti' on top when he blinked at the 'S' he wrote. "Hey Dad, do you mind me inviting someone over?"
"Who?" Shouta queried.
"Shinsou? That guy you said has this nice quirk?" He replied, getting a brow raised. "Just him. He kinda looked unappreciated with how he uses his quirk."
"Do you have any contacts with him?" His Dad verified.
He shrugged as he continued to write spaghetti. "Nope. But I can break in the school records to have them."
"You're such a ditz. Remind me tomorrow, I'll get it for you." He grinned widely as the other who looked away from him. "Don't attack me like that."
"I know my third quirk now!" He exclaimed, snapping his fingers. That gained the hero's attention. "Sunshine smile!" And he smiled widely with a peace sign.
Shouta made dying sounds before slumping on the cushion. "Dead."
Tsuna's laughter echoed in their apartment. He went over to his Dad and hugged the 'dead' man who came back to 'life'. Shouta laughed too, and buried his face to the mane in front him. The man loves their stupid, senseless banters and talks. It never feels like home without Tsuna doing it with him.
Both blinked their eyes when they heard Italian lullaby resounding somewhere. Tsuna went off his Dad and looked over to his phone. He stared at the 'Unknown Caller' printed on his phone screen. He took it from the seat, glanced at his Dad before taking in the call.
"Good Morning, Tsunayoshi Sawada speaking." He greeted.
A small rustle. "Tsuna?"
He perked up. "Todoroki? What's up?"
"Are you free?"
The brunet looked at the time then glanced at his Dad who yawned. Well, they had breakfast. Shouta will sleep, and he'll be spending most of his time reading or watching the TV or the people outside. Then he'll be out later to buy ingredients. So... "Yup. What can I help you with?"
"Will you mind if you accompany me to the hospital?"
"Wait. Are you injured?" He inquired immediately as he stood up. "Wait. Where are you? I'll be there-"
"No no! I want to visit my Mom, and I..."
Tsuna stilled before he sighed. "Oh. I thought you're hurt or something. What time are you going?"
"You don't really mind?"
"If someone wants my cheering, why would I deny him?" He asked back as he moved for his room. He took his jacket, wallet and headset. He heard the other splutter, making him chuckle. "Kidding. Where are we meeting up?"
"The station near Fujiya Hospital. Is that all right?"
"Sure. I'll be there in fifteen tops. Take your time getting there, yeah?"
"Okay. Thank you."
"No probs, Todoroki." He bid before the line cut off.
"Was that Todoroki?" Shouta asked him as he put the earphone jack on his phone and slipped the latter in his pocket.
"Yup. He wants to visit a family." He answered as he shrugged his jacket on and slipped his wallet inside his pocket. "You'll be alright alone?"
"How old do you think I am?" His Dad asked, incredulous and scandalized.
Tsuna laughed as he carefully ripped the paper from the pad and moved to get near the other. "A thirty years old man who is so selfless and prone to danger as I am."
"That's harsh." Shouta grunted as he received a kiss on the head. "Why do I get a kiss and I can't give you one?"
"Because I'm a teen who should be rebelling over affection and you're the parent who should be glad for receiving them?" He countered before moving away. "You know the drill, Dad. One call away."
"Even if I don't, you'll know if I'm in trouble or not." The hero remarked as he went to get his shoes. "Your radar on me is too sharp."
He snickered as he put his shoes on in the foyer "I just love you that much."
"Yeah yeah. Love you too. Don't do something I won't do."
After opening door, he waved his hand as a goodbye with a cheeky smile shot to his Dad over his shoulder. "That's my line."
He closed the door behind him before running for the end of the hallway. Instead of using the stairs, he opened the window there and jumped to the ground. He used the nearby tree as a leverage to go down in a slow manner before he landed on the side walk. Checking his time, he ran for the nearest station, checked in his card, purchased a ticket and rode the leaving train.
He pulled on his headset, listening for Japanese songs for the day. He idly watched the passing scenery, not minding the people eyeing him. When he caught a boy staring at him from his peripheral, he smiled in a friendly way. He got a toothy grin in return. When the train stopped on his station, he waved at the kid before going out with some people. He hurriedly went out of the building and looked around to see Todoroki.
He was enjoying his music, tapping his foot with the beat when he felt his intuition poke him to look behind him. He did, pulling one bud off. He noticed Todoroki was wearing a buttoned up dark blue polo shirt with a blue shirt under, black pants with this fashion belt and some rubbershoes. Rather a little dressed for his mother. Tsuna waved a hand as he smiled at the guy who only walked towards.
"So Fujiya Hospital." Tsuna hummed. "I'm not really good with Neo City, so lead the way?"
He got a nod.
They turned to his right and started to walk. The silence is pretty tense and ease. Tense because the other is nervous, while ease because he's not trying to feel the tension. But he'll wait anyway.
"My Mom is in the hospital for getting depressed." Todoroki uttered after they crossed the bridge. "She was admitted after she poured a hot water on my face."
Tsuna kept his mouth shut.
"She was fed up with my father's insistence and hunger to become number one hero. I was his greatest creation. His masterpiece because I got his quirk and my Mom's quirk. She said my left side is ugly. That I sometimes look hideous to her. Whenever I remember how I heard her say that on the phone, and got a hurt with the hot water after she saw me peeking from the door, I feel..."
"Hurt." He supplied in a whisper as he stopped walking. The other halted and turned to see him. Tsuna smiled sympathetically. "I know the feeling since my Kaasan-" 'She may have been there, but she also calls me a dame.' "-couldn't be there for me too."
The other's lips lifted a bit before they went pursed. "It's just that... I don't know what will I feel once I see her again. Will I get mad? Sad? Happy? Hurt?"
Tsuna took a step forward and hugged the other, tight and secure. "Take a deep breath and think of the reason why you want to see her. Sometimes, even if the confrontation will cause us more heartbreak, it's still something we need to have closure. And besides, she's your mother. Family knows best and stick together, regardless of how bad your relationship had been."
"I... I want to meet her and talk about many things with her. I think she's still being caged by me and my Dad. I was the one who drove her to her breaking point, so I think... I think I should be the one to free her from it."
"That's good." Tsuna praised before stepping back and stared at those determined heterochromatic eyes before they lingered to the burned spot. "May I?"
The other nodded.
The brunet raised his hand and softly caressed the soft skin. He didn't mind Todoroki when the latter closed his eyes. His hand moved the hair to the side to keep his ministrations, caressing the scar with utmost care. It must have hurt him to receive such pain at a young age. Everyone has their own experiences. Their own pain.
With the use of his sky flames, he let the other feel the warmth that got deprived from him. The warmth of a family, a friend and being free. Todoroki's tensed shoulders relaxed as his breathing evened. Tsuna tapped the side of the eye before taking back his hand. He smiled at the teen before gesturing him to lead the way again. They walked side by side.
When they entered the hospital, Tsuna let his companion do the talking. He was just there as a support. They got directed to a room number. Todoroki's shoulders slowly tensed up as they went nearer to the mentioned room. When they were in front of its door, the young man's hand trembled before he sighed.
"I'll be outside if you need me, Todoroki." He informed as he patted the other's shoulder. "Go for it. Do it with your dying will."
The other chuckled at him. "Yeah. With my dying will."
Todoroki slid the door open, and Tsuna watched from the side as the teen greeted his mother. He was the one who closed it for them before going for the bench nearby and put on his bud to listen to music. Since he is a support, he should wait, right? Right.
Tsuna doesn't know how many hours he stayed there. He was even given some chocolates and stuffs by some patients, visitors, children and some nurses. He smiled at them in appreciation and gratitude. Not one ever outright told him that most of them were saved by him for all those years he was a vigilante. Like him, they wanted to keep their identities in secret in order to repay him for his kindness and bravery for even small deeds.
He was eating some fries while watching a random video about how to make a fluffy pancake (he honestly doesn't know how he got there from listening to some music videos), when he heard a door opening. He looked up to see his classmate searching for him. He raised a hand to get the other's attention. Those mismatched eyes brightened before he got beckoned to come. Tsuna ate the last potato before he removed his glove and put the trash on the bin next to him. He didn't forget his whole bag of gifts as he walked closer.
"My Mom wants to meet you." The teen informed.
"H-Hie?" He squeaked in shock. "But I'm not that presentable and I'm-"
"I kinda mentioned you..." The other looked down to the floor. "She thinks you're my friend."
"Do you want me to be your friend?" Tsuna asked softly, causing the other to look up. "I mean, we can be friends without saying it. We're generally schoolmates and classmates. But it's still nice to be clear, right?"
Todoroki flushed a little. "I want you to be a friend of mine."
He felt his heart palpitate in gratitude. It was the same with Izuku. He smiled and patted the other's shoulder. "So how do I charm your Mom?"
The teen signed him to come in. Tsuna did. He was greeted with a woman in hospital clothes, sitting on a stool that was near an open window. The woman isn't an albino but her hair is white through and through, with brown-grey eyes. His eyes flitted to Todoroki's eyes.
He gave a small bow as a greeting before smiling politely to the lady. He got rewarded with a breathtaking soft smile. It was so like Todoroki's. Soft and expresses their own kind of happiness. Like mother, like son then.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Tsunayoshi Sawada, Shouto's classmate and friend." He introduced himself.
"I'm Rei. You're a fellow Yuuei student?" The woman asked.
Tsuna nodded as he dropped the bag by the door and approached her. "Yup. He'll be so full of my nature for the next three years."
The lady giggled. "You're charming."
The brunet turned to his new friend with a beam. "I charmed her!"
Both Todorokis chuckled at his antics.
"I should get some food for us." The other excused. "Do you want anything, Tsuna?"
He waved his hand as he accepted the offer to seat. "Nope. I'll be having what you want."
"Okay. I'll be back."
When the door closed, Tsuna's eyes turned to the window. He smiled as he closed his eyes when the wind blew inside. He looked at Rei who is watching him. She's pretty much a kind soft woman with powerful quirk.
"How have you been, Rei-san?" He asked softly and cautious. "I've only heard much from Shouto, but I want to hear it from you."
"I'm healing." Rei answered, nodding her head. "Although I'm still scared of him."
"It cannot be helped." He hummed. "Even I have my own fears I can't face."
"Like?"
"Ghosts." He replied cheekily, causing the lady to giggle. "But in serious matters, it's to not see my family again." He looked out the window. "Being someone with responsibility on his shoulders will always put himself and his family to danger." He turned back to the lady who is watching him. "So I fear of not seeing my family again. Unable to say goodbye and tell them they're the most beautiful gifts a person like me can gain."
"You're as broken as I am." Rei remarked.
Tsuna shrugged. "Maybe. Perhaps. We have our own weaknesses. It's a matter of resolve. And to be able to meet a woman who endured much pain no one could is an honour."
"Birds with the same feather flock together, huh?" The lady mused.
He grinned. "As my best friend said it, the more the merrier."
Todoroki came back with his mother and friend laughing hard about something. The young man smiled at the scene and joined them with the food he bought.
Shouta stared at his pale free arms and hands. He flexed them, especially his right elbow that Shigaraki almost destroyed. He feels pretty light too, now that he doesn't have the cast.
He honestly thinks he should thank Takeshi Yamamoto for numbing his injured arms from the pain for two weeks. The pain was unbearable even with the painkillers for a straight week. But the thing the older man did to him was so soothing. He couldn't even feel the pain whenever he moves them. Good thing the last remaining one week felt like he's healed already. But Recovery Girl is his doctor, so he doesn't have much choice. That, and he has one Tsuna and one Hizashi to nag at him.
"You should do some arm exercises to work them out and feel them again." Recovery Girl advised. "Eat a lot and don't do intensive workouts. Better yet, relax for another week until you don't think they're weak anymore. If you feel any discomfort, call me."
His black eyes turned to his son who is taking note of everything. "You got that, assistant?"
"Yup. If you get stubborn, knock you out and ask Uncle Hizashi to help me carry you to Recovery Girl." The brunet nodded. "Got it."
His doctor cackled. "I like this kid. He'll go miles."
Shouta hid his smile in his capture weapon as the two talked more about his situation. Tell his son to charm one person, he'll captivate a whole city. Yup. He'll go miles.
Yesterday's dinner was eventful. Tsuna was so cheerful and chatty about his visit with Todoroki in the hospital. He didn't really go into details, but the brunet described the Todoroki matriarch to be very beautiful and just like Todoroki, albeit soft and light and wonderful. Other than that, he told him he gained a new friend in an indirect way. He called Todoroki in his given name, Shouto. He was really happy that the brunet slept on the couch.
With honesty, Shouta doesn't know whether to laugh or smack his kid with the stunt he did at the finals. While all of the audience were focused on how intense Bakugou and Todoroki's fight, his eyes were on Tsuna who was just standing at the side. He saw how the brunet went over the line just after Todoroki gave his fire quirk a spin. He didn't 'accidentally' step out, he did it on purpose so he won't become the winner of his batch. Wise. So frustratingly wise.
But maybe what he really liked about the fact that his son didn't get the top spot was that Tsuna can do whatever he wants without any eyes judging him. Because after the Awarding Ceremony, the brunet rushed to him and put the medal over his head, with all staffs' and people's in the stadium eyes on them. Tsuna explained that his achievements are Shouta's achievements too. That he had only gone so far because he wants him to be proud. To say he was embarrassed and ecstatic that moment was an understatement.
"Dad?" He looked down to his son who peered at him with his wide caramel eyes.
"Hm?" He responded after closing the clinic's door. "What is it?"
"Can I hug you now?"
Shouta chuckled. "Of course you can."
He stepped back a little when the brunet jumped on him. The latter hugged him tight and secure, burying his face on his Dad's chest. Shouta hugged the other back with his weak arms. One of the things he missed is hugging his son who gives the warmest and the most soothing hugs a person can have. With how much he craved his son's hugs, he knows Tsuna missed his arms around him too.
"I missed this." Tsuna murmured on his chest, rubbing his face in there while hugging him tighter. "I missed Dad's warm hugs."
"I missed this too, buddy." He sighed, burying his face on the fluffy hair. "I could just hug you all day."
"We can't, cause we need to celebrate."
He groaned. "I don't want to do that."
"We need to. Small achievements should be celebrated."
"Fine."
"And we need Shinsou's number. I will not take it if he's not invited."
"Yes yes."
They parted. Tsuna beamed at him which he replied with a smile before they started walking for the staff room. They were greeted with teachers working their things. Hizashi stood up with a grin when he saw his arms free of bandages. Tsuna greeted him with a cheer and invited him to the celebration. The two chattered inside the staff room while he consulted the school records for Hitoshi Shinsou's contact number.
He was writing it in a piece of paper when he noticed something. It was Midnight talking with Tsuna.
"Don't corrupt my kid." He warned to Midnight who huffed.
"Dad, don't be mean." Tsuna chided before smiling to Midnight. "Tsuna is fine, Midnight-san."
"Then you can call me Nemuri too." Midnight offered with a kind smile.
His son blinked his eyes and titled his head in question. "Aunt Nemuri or Nemuri-nee-chan?"
Shouta face palmed when the lady hugged Tsuna with a small squeal. "You're so cute! I don't even know how Eraserhead was able to get a kind child like you."
"Stop that already." He placated as he took his son away from the lady hero and put an arm around the collarbone. His innocent son is flushing red. "That's Midnight, Nemuri Kayama. She's an upperclassman of mine when I was a student. Same with Hizashi and Oboro." He didn't mind the lady's eyes focusing on him. "She's the you know one."
Realization downed on the brunet's face. "Oh. Then we can invite her too."
"Tsuna-"
"I told you, the more the visitors, the more the luck. And besides, your friend is my family." Tsuna explained softly.
He sighed before dangling the paper in front of his son. "Fine. But I'll do it. Go call your guest."
"Yes! Thanks!" The other beamed at him with his sunny smile before escaping his hold for the door while taking out his phone.
"Now you've met the cutest child in the universe, Tsunayoshi Sawada." Hizashi remarked to Nemuri who were looking back and forth between him and Mic.
"You told him about Oboro?" Nemuri queried. "I thought that's still sensitive."
"It still is." He replied, putting his hands inside his pockets. "It's just that Tsuna made it more bearable to accept that he is dead."
"You should see how Tsuna bugs him every Obon. He won't leave him until Shouta dress up to go and clean up Oboro's grave with us." Hizashi chuckled.
Shouta sighed. "He's inviting you to our little celebration, Nemuri. Since I'm still injured, I can't help him cook."
"Oh! You should pick the cake for now." Hizashi nodded. "A celebration isn't complete without the cake. It's always the top of the list."
"Wait. Shouldn't you be briefing me of your traditions?" Nemuri questioned, getting into the vibes.
"The Family traditions." Hizashi corrected.
And they dived into their family's list of traditions, dos and don'ts, and their origins.
