Super and Magical Moments - A T-Rexcellent Reviews Fanfiction One-Shot Series

I of course own no DC Comics properties or characters and make no money off of this, I am merely a giant DC Fan who wants to share my stories with all of you.

Chapter 1: To Here and Never Back Again

Having floated away from the group of heroes, the horde of police officers, the local military and crowds of civilians after the battle against Zod and his followers was over, Kal eventually landed out onto the docks and looked out over the Metropolis City Bay.

A sudden ocean breeze came his way and he rather instinctively breathed in the sea air, a decision he quickly regretted, as the cool night ocean air that had brought him such comfort when he was a boy was now gone.

No, here in this strange place, in this strange city, with these strange people, the air was not clean, nor was cool, it was filthy, polluted and just reminded him of how far he was from… home.

Out there, somewhere across that vast expanse of ocean, he knew lay the shrouded island of Themyscira, the place that had once been his home, the last land of the Amazons and the final worshipful domain of the Greek Gods.

A place where mythical beasts roamed and hybrid monsters regularly escaped to from the Underworld, where his adoptive tribe lived their immortals lives as a sisterhood of warrior women and his mother ruled over them as Queen of the Amazons, the place where he and his sister had both grown up together as prince and princess, the place where he had once been proud to be the champion and protector of.

What a beautiful dream it had all been… and what an even lovelier lie it had all turned out to be.

The bittersweet memories of his old life had lingered inside his mind since his unexpected exile like the undiluted wine of the Greek God Dionysus, each sip was sweeter than the last, but did little more than cause the present to become both distant and hazy, leaving behind only a bitter and unpleasant pain when the effect was over.

Kal shook his head and crossed his arms in front of his chest, a habit he had picked up from his childhood from trying to imitate his teacher Phillippus, something his mother and sister had both teased him about growing up, the subconscious action however led to his fingers brushing up against the hilt of an old friend he had almost forgot was still there for him.

He pulled out his sword Eclipse, the dark twin to his sister's Twilight and when he stared at his own reflection in it, he saw the naïve pretend prince he used to be and grew both angry and sad at the same time.

He brought it up closer to his face and for a second, he saw not his face, but hers warm loving eyes and raven lock falling around her face, it was then he knew for the first with absolute certainty that he had stepped through a door which had now closed behind him with no way to reopen it.

"I can never go back to Themyscira." He finally told the reflection and as if those words were a magical command, the image before him faded until only his own eyes stared sadly back at him, Kal gave a sad sigh as he resheathed Eclipse back into its holster. "I'm sorry Diana."

"Kal-El?"

The unmistakable deep voice of the Martian Manhunter broke Kal out of his self-pitying and he turned around to see his Spartan friend Steve Trevor, the two police officers Dan Turpin and Maggie Sawyer as well as the Green Martian, Jon Jones standing a few feet behind him, all looking at him with clear concern written across their faces.

"You might not be able to go home" The Jon said in a soft voice that was filled with echoes of the same pain his new protégé was feeling at the moment, the kind of pain that came with losing everything but still othered the hope of something new. "But that doesn't mean you can't make a new one here, with us."

Despite truly appreciating the sentiment, Kal did not immediately reply to the green aliens rather kind offer, instead he turned back towards the ocean and lifted his head slightly towards the sky, to everyone else, he merely seemed to be staring up at nothing, the cities light having long blocked out the heavens above.

But for Kal however, that was not the case, thanks to his incredible vision, the stars he had gazed upon throughout his life on Themyscira were still there, unchanged and unaltered by the events that had led to his exile, an enteral constant something from his past life, that no matter what else had changed, the stars of his youth were still the stars of his present.

"My son, my prince, my Little Fallingstar…"

Kal couldn't help but wince as his stargazing triggered an echo of his mother's beautiful voice, calling him by her beloved nickname for him, as though she was right there with him, as though nothing had changed, as though he still didn't know the truth…

He took a deep breath and lowered his head in silent grief while the four standing behind him waited patiently for his answer.

In truth, Kal still wasn't sure what his answer would actually be, truthfully, he had only known these people for such a short time, but still found himself really hoping he could trust them and what they were offering him.

But then, his mind turned to dark places he did not like to linger, they whispered of betrayal, of danger, spoke of liars who promised one thing but only wanted his power and might on their side, not him, no, never him.

He shuddered at that last one, he knew of who the voice spoke of. It was so hard for him, because he really wanted to trust these people…

Kal felt a warm hand land softly on his shoulder and turned to see his friend Steve standing next to him, a look of pure sympathy and understanding adorning his face.

"Kal, buddy, look I know it hurts man, trust me, I really do." Steve said in a comforting manner, he waited a second and taking Kal's refusal to shake him off as a good sign, decided to continue. "But even if you could go back to Themyscira, it wouldn't be the same home that you left, because you're just not the same person you were back on that island anymore and you can never be that person again Kal."

"It's time to face the reality, your old life is gone Kal… and I'm sorry, but it's not coming back."

Steve then noticed something that he thought he would never see on his friend's face, Kal was crying, not outright sobs or loud weeping, but his eyes glistened with barely restrained tears and the silence with which Kal held himself made the scene even more tragic to behold.

His Spartan friend made no move or acknowledgement of this fact, no, Steve knew this sadness all too well, it was the sadness only someone else who knew what it was like to lose everything could understand and in sympathy for his friend's immense loss, he just stood beside him, simply letting Kal know he was there for him.

"Besides, it's clear you're in no condition to go back right now anyway." Whilst speaking with his usual hard honesty, Dan Turpin rough jersey accented voice had a surprisingly soft tone for once as he spoke up. "We know this may not be the home or the family you wanted Kal, but it's definitely the home and the family you need right now."

"Dan is right, you have a good heart Kal; it belongs here, where it can heal and grow stronger." Maggie Sawyer said with a warm maternal smile that echoed his surrogate aunt Epione so much in that moment.

After hearing these kind words, Kal finally felt the tears start to subside and the ache in his heart fade away, for now at least, wiping his face clear, he turned slowly, and looked at these kind strangers who had warmly welcomed him into Man's World with open arms and trust, something he was starting to realise he had never really gotten back on Themyscira.

He was not sure if such a fact was a cause for relief or distress, as despite his best efforts to keep his guard up and remain suspicious, these people were quickly becoming the closet thing he had to family now.

He starred at Maggie, a woman who clearly bore the strength of an Amazon, but held herself with the honesty brought forth by a life dedicated to truth and justice, something he realised in that moment, he had rarely, if ever seen amongst his mother's people or the Greek Pantheon.

Before even releasing he had done it, he nodded at her in clear acceptance of their offer, his eyes then turned to the green alien who like him was both an outsider and lost son of a now dead world.

Jon smiled at this sign of progress for his newest pupil and turned around back towards the rest of his students and the crowd of civilians. "Then come along my young friend, your past is behind you now, but your future lays ahead."

Kal followed the group back towards the rest of the young heroes and the crowd of cheering civilians, who were all saying his name by now in a thunderous roar of approval, he felt something he had not felt in a long time, simple and true acceptance.

Meanwhile, not to far away, at the top of the Lexcorp Tower…

"Well, Miss Graves, it seems a new player has joined in on Steven's and his Martian mentor's little superhero game." A young bald, green-eyed man wearing a white suit said before he drank from a glass of champagne as he stood before the plated glass window of his company's penthouse suite, staring down at the scene below.

"So, it would seem sir." A slightly older, but still young women with blue eyes, red hair and wearing an all-black suit said, a complete contrast to her employers who came forth to fill her boss's now empty champagne glass. "He's already all over the news feeds, the crowds are calling him Superman."

"No Miss Graves, he is far more than a mere man or even another superhero." The bald-headed young man said without taking his eyes off what was happening beneath him. "We are witnessing the birth of something far greater than that, we are witnessing the birth of a God taking place in Metropolis this evening, and thus, the opportunity to answer a question I never thought I would ever get the chance to answer".

"And what question would that be, sir?" Mercy Graves asked as she turned her head curiously, her voice faltering as she became unsure of what exactly her employer was even getting at.

Lex Luthor, the new CEO of Lexcorp took a long drink and emptied his champagne glass before turning to his assistant with a smile that immediately made Mercy regret asking her question in the first place.

Why you ask?

Because she knew that smile and she knew that look, it was the infamous Luthor Look, the smile his father Lionel Luthor had worn on his face whenever he had seen something that he had wanted, either to have it all to himself or destroy it with his own two hands.

Whether it was a rival company, a new kind of super weapon or even an attractive bed mate for the evening, when Lionel Luthor set his gaze upon something with that terrible look on his face, whatever or whoever he was staring at, should beware.

Like father, like son the saying goes.

"Why Miss Graves." Lex began grandly in that same theatrical tone of voice he'd use in public appearances for the press whenever he was about to announce a brand-new, exciting project. "The same question that has baffled philosophers, troubled priests and intrigued kings for centuries, the question that all mortal men have pondered throughout human history at point or another…"

After that rather dramatic declaration, Lex threw the empty champagne glass over his shoulder and listened to it shatter with a smile before stepping even closer to the window, setting his infamous inherited expression once more upon the cheering crowd below, surrounding their city's group of young heroes and specifically their newest and most interesting member.

"…Do Gods bleed?"

Greetings to all my fellow fanfic readers and writers, I hope you all enjoyed this first chapter Super and Magical Moments Chapter 1: To Here and Never Back Again.

Now, you're all probably wondering just what exactly this new fanfiction is, think of it as a series of experimental one-shots for the far future of my main story Superman, Son of Hippolyta, that take place after the War for Themyscira and Kal finding out the truth, also if that sentence makes zero sense to you, then that means you haven't read my main story yet and should go do that right away if you want to understand what exactly is going on here.

The reason for this series existence is to experiment with different ideas I've been toying with for a while, particularly the writing of a certain DC ship I don't see a lot of, Kal-El and Zatanna Zatara and other controversial concepts I've been considering for the future before incorporating them into my main story, so nothing here is cannon until I decide it is, guys, this just a fun experiment in my friendship and romance writing skills.

To clear any future confusion right away, the chapters of this series are done in a drabble and one-shot style, with events happening in and out of order and no real concurrent plot besides character and relationship development, as always, readers suggestions and ideas are welcome, but like I mentioned above, this series mainly focuses on themes of friendship between Kal and his fellow Superhuman friends and his potential cannon romance with a certain Sorceress, so do keep that in mind when writing reviews.
