Chapter 5: Might Meets Magic

The experience of long-distance portal travel was in a word, unpleasant, as the small group of six Amazons passed through the magical gateway created by Alexa into a forest of ethereal foliage, getting the attention of a several grazing Kirin's Deer who silently watched the portal appear moments before dashing off into the eternal night.

Alexa, who was the last to pass through the magical doorway and was the worst affected by the transition, whilst her princess and her circle warriors had mild headaches and felt slightly unbalanced, they were all still standing, Alexa however, heaved over as soon as she was through and emptied the contents of her stomach into the closet glowing bush.

In all honesty, she had not expected the hastily cobbled together portal spell to work at all, whilst the bookish Amazon had been reading Mother Magala's magical tombs for some time now, her knowledge of the arcane arts was still extremely limited and this was her first proper attempt at spellcasting by herself, at her princess's and her circles request.

And quite possibly the last time as well, if this is what using magic is always going to feel like, the redheaded Amazon thought to herself, right before she heaved forward to be sick again. An action that merely resulted in a snort and look of disapproval from her older sister Artemis.

"Oh, by my Goddess namesake, really Alexa?" Artemis said under her breath, looking down with distain at her younger sister, who avoided her gaze. "You're embarrassing me, sister."

"Sorry Artemis." Alexa apologised just before throwing up a third and final time, much to Artemis's further frustration.

"Quiet! Both of you!" Nubia sternly ordered both redheaded Amazon's, much to the two sisters' chagrin, before turning to the now recovered youngest Amazon. "Well done, Alexa, your portal spell seems to have worked, we appear to be in the right place."

"Thank the Gods." Alexa whispered to herself in relief as she wiped the outside of her mouth clean, whilst making sure that her voice was still low enough that Artemis wouldn't hear her as the three of them hurried to re-join Diana, Mala and Euboea, who had already moved on ahead…

… meaning none of them saw the pair of amethyst eyes flash into existence right behind them without a sound. The purple eyed, shadowy figure looked at the group walking away and then down at the freshly vomited mess on the glowing ferns before her and frowned as the smell suddenly struck her nose.

First rule of the Teleporters Guide to the Art of Portal Projecting, is that rookie magic users should always travel on a light stomach as contents might move during transit, the female, shadowy figure thought to herself as with a simple spell casting wave of her hand, she made the thrown-up stomach contents deteriorate from the foliage, odour and all, adding in a scented mixture of lavender and pine breeze to replace it for good measure.

Much better, and now to catch up to my Amazonian intruders before they get themselves hurt trying to break into my manor, startle the wrong nocturnal creature or worse, accidentally wake Nyx up from her midnight meditation session, the shadowy female figure thought to herself as she disappeared back into the darkness and silently followed after the six Amazons, who were now taking in their new surreal surroundings.

This strange world was just like how Mnemosyne had described it to them when they had come to her library seeking information on the Shadow Realm, a spectacular and magic filled dimension seemingly stuck in a perpetual state of night time, but it was only when the small group of Amazons followed the crystal pathway and reached the first bridge across a gaping chasm, did they realise just how vast this world truly was.

The Shadow Realm was situated inside what looked like an endless void of darkness, with brief flashes of what looked like purple lighting in the distance illuminating its otherwise black sky, its terrain made up mostly of floating islands of various sizes and shapes, connected by great bridges made out of glowing amethyst crystals.

Despite their wariness, the six Amazons couldn't help but stare and marvel at the otherworldly and breathtaking sights all around them, the air itself seem to glisten with magical twilight, as if constantly lit up in the darkness by the moon and stars above, as well as its own brilliant amethyst glow from the giant crystals jutting out from the ground.

As they continued down the crystal pathway, the luminescent grass on either side of them twinkled with fresh dew, as if was very early morning and not the latest of night. As they crossed bridge after bridge, they saw the various lush waterfalls cascading down into the misty darkness below. As they stepped onto each new floating island, they were met with the sight of another new towering structure of a foreign design.

But it was the island they were heading for that held the largest and most noticeable structure on it, on it was dark forest of black trees which they saw in the distance, slowly opened up onto a huge, foreboding looking castle of a manor, decorated with large stone statues of dragons, gargoyles and various other fearsome looking creatures glaring down at them from the walls and ramparts.

Alexa couldn't help but gulp nervously as she took in the more ominous scenery as they walked through the darkened forest, she was suddenly starting to wish her portal spell had sent them somewhere else instead, because almost anywhere had to better then this dark, shadowy place.

Also, whilst she would never say it aloud to her older sister or her friends, the youngest Amazon just couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched…

"So… this is the Shadow Realm?" Artemis asked as she looked around in a rather unimpressed manner, in a clear attempt to hide her obvious discomfort with this new unnerving environment they found themselves in, not that any of her fellow Amazons blamed her at that moment, as all of them were feeling noticeably uneasy in this foreign and unnatural place.

This darkened world was almost the exact opposite of Themyscira in every way, even in the darkest parts of the Jungle of Pantherus, their tropical island home was always warm, bright and sunny, teeming with natural beauty and life of their sisterhood.

But this purely magical realm however, was dark, practically empty and eerily silent, it was unsettling to say the least, even to the bravest of warrior women such as them.

"It would appear so Artemis." Euboea said, deciding to answer Artemis's question as no else did, pointing her spear towards the ominous and yet still rather majestic looking manor in the distance. "And that must be Shadowcrest Manor-."

"-the lair of this Mistress of Magic that we keep hearing so much about." Nubia said as she unholstered her spiked mace from her back and shared a meaningful look with her fellow Amazons, her thoughts were clear and considering what they all had heard of this Sorceress before coming here...

The other Amazons all nodded and pulled out their various weapons as well, preparing themselves for the battle that they were sure was to come as they carefully made their way out of the dark forest and into the manor's open courtyard, looking in almost every possible direction for incoming attacks…

… but never noticing the black shadowy form begin to emerge from the forest right behind them, like a snake in the grass, the serpentine mass of seemingly living darkness slithered after the six Amazons with surprising speed, making sure to stay close to their respective shadows to avoid detection as the group moved into the moonlight…

"Be on guard here, sisters." Diana whispered her command to her five friends, raising her Stheno Shield and Twilight Sword and action followed by the others who all raised their various weapons as well. "We are in unfamiliar territory, one in which our enemy knows well and has the upper hand in."

She looked up the long flight of stone steps towards the rather formidable looking dark fortress looming over them and shivered, but still, the warrior princess refused to be intimated by it, because after years of wondering, after months upon months of endlessly worrying, she was finally… hopefully… going to see her brother again.

In truth, Diana did not know what the true nature of her brother's relationship with this supposed Mistress of Magic really was, but she didn't really care either, what she did know was that the Sorceress who lived in that manor knew Kal and furthermore she knew how to find him as well, which was all that really mattered to the Amazon Princess at that moment.

Because one thing was for certain for her however, she was not leaving this light forsaken place until she got the information that she sought from this Shadow Sorceress, whether the Witch wanted to divulge it willingly or not.

I didn't wait this long to get here only to leave empty handed; the Princess of the Amazons thought determinedly to herself, I'm going to find you Kal and I'm going to bring you home, and no Sorceress is going to get in my way.

"As you command, princess." Artemis said nodding, before turning her attention back to their new, darker surroundings with a suspicious glare, notching an arrow and slightly raising her bow, ready to shoot.

"Hmm, yes, I agree, you girls really should be more on guard." A new, more sultry female voice casually informed the group of six Amazons in a slightly sardonic tone that emanated seemingly from all around them. "Especially since your enemy already knows your here."

Startled and more than a little alarmed, the small group of Amazons immediately formed up into a protective circle with the speed and efficiency that only elite warriors could manage, weapons at the ready to face this seemingly invisible threat.

Their enemy was not impressed

"Nice group choreography, ladies, tell me, who's your dancing instructor?" The sultry female voice said in a clearly amused tone of voice before asking. "Any of your brave warrior women suddenly get the feeling that something wicked this way comes?"

"The Sorceress! She is watching us!" Mala's surprised statement brought forth two things, first amused chuckle from the surrounding shadows and much to the blonde, axe wielding Amazon's annoyance, a look from Nubia that simply said 'seriously?'

"The 'Sorceress' can you hear as well, girls" The voice added teasingly, this time coming from one of the large stone Dragon statues that flanked the steps going up to the manor, the Amazons all followed it and saw to their shock a pair of glowing amethyst eyes glaring right at them from beneath the dark shadow of the Dragon's right wing.

"And while I do appreciate the introduction blondie." Zatanna said rather smugly as she finally stepped out of the shadows and in full view of the group of Amazons. "I think I know how to make a dramatic entrance."

For a Sorceress of such wide spread reputation, they all expected to see a much older women, wearing some form of armour or at least appearing to be armed. Instead, this Sorceress looked to be around their age and was dressed in tight blue jeans, a black t-shirt, a black pair of boots and to their eyes, seem to carry no visible weapons on her person, still, the Amazons all remained on guard, they all knew that with magic users, that looks could be very deceiving.

"For the record ladies, I don't know how you do things on Themyscira, but around here, it is considered very rude to enter someone else's domain without either their permission or invitation." Zatanna's said with narrowed eyes, making sure the annoyance she was currently feeling was clear in her voice. "One would think given how zealously you Amazons guard your little island paradise from the rest of the world, that you would understand that better than most people."

She had just been settling in for the night when she was alerted to armed intruders entering her realm via a makeshift long range teleportation portal, forcing her to leave the program she was watching with a groan and put the ice cream she had just gotten out back in the fridge.

But there's no rest for the wicked, I suppose, Zatanna thought irritably to herself whilst casting her cold gaze over the group of warrior women and asked. "Well, what do the six of you have to say for yourselves?"

Shamefully, it took a few moments for the group of Amazons to find their respective voices again in the wake of this unexpected chastisement, but fortunately, it was the their most diplomatic member who spoke first.

"Indeed, you are right." Euboea said as she stepped forward and took on the familiar role of peace maker, a role which she had filled in the Princess's Circle since they were all little girls, the Asian Amazon women made sure to adopt a friendlier tone of voice whilst putting away her spear, clearly trying to lower the uncomfortable tension in the night air. "We Amazons do understand that better than most people."

"Do you?" Zatanna asked doubtfully whilst crossing her arms over her chest. "Hmm, you could've fooled me their sweetheart."

"Y-Yes, so on behalf of my fellow Amazons and I, please accept our sincerest apologises for entering your realm unannounced, sister." Euboea said, apologising on behalf of the whole group who still remained on edge and ready for battle, which was not really helping her case and was certainly not lost on the Sorceress standing before her.

"Yeah." Zatanna commented sardonically as she eyed each of the indivuals weapons in their hands. "I'm really feeling that sincerity in the air right now."

"I hope you can understand, that we do not mean to trespass into your home, but if you don't mind me asking, exactly whose domain are we currently intruding in?" Euboea asked as politely as possible, wanting to make sure that this raven-haired woman was in fact the Mistress of Magic they were looking for and not just some other random Sorceress whose home they had stumbled into.

While the seemingly innocent question was asked pleasantly enough, all it gained Euboea at first was a raised, elegant eyebrow from Zatanna and a harsh elbow nudge from Artemis, until finally the Sorceress let out an amused chuckle.

"How nice, an Amazon who actually knows how to show respect to other non-Amazonians, such rarity in this day and age." Zatanna said, offering the young healer a small, genuine smile in return for her respect before turning to address the rest of the group. "You five could all learn a lot from your wise friend here."

"Well then, sisters." Zatanna said with emphasis on the word she knew the Amazons liked to refer to one another with. "I must ask that you now please pardon me, I'm so used to people already knowing who I am just by sight that I rarely have to introduce myself anymore nowadays."

"Just please allow me to change ever quickly so that I can greet you all properly." Zatanna then waved her hand whilst muttering ' tiftou sserecroS wodahS ni sserd', a bright flash of light engulfed her and a spilt second later, Zatanna was wearing her Shadow Sorceress outfit, along with a pair of strangely familiar looking torches strapped to her back. "Tada!"

Dam, that must save her a lot time getting changed, each of the Amazons thought privately to themselves, feeling surprisingly enviously of this clearly talented spellcaster as she then proceeded to introduce herself.

"Zatanna 'the Showstopper' Zatara, the latest Shadow Sorceress and the one and only Mistress of Magic, Daughter of Giovanni the Great and Syndella the Spectacular, the Master Magician and the last Shadow Sorceress respectively." She said as she gave the group of Amazons a small showman's bow.

"Yes." Nubia said after a moment in her usual dry monotone. "We've heard about you."

"Really? I'm flattered, it's so nice to see that my reputation reaches even the shielded shores of Themyscira." Zatanna said with a pleased smirk before continuing in a more dramatic tone. "I'm also known as the Demonslayer to my prey, the Lady of Illusions to my fans, the Amethyst Dragoness to my enemies, the Artist of the Arcane to my peers and the Madame of Shadowcrest Manor to the locals."

"Though my friends usually just call me Zee, and welcome ladies, to the Shadow Realm of Erebus, also known as the place where all the magic happens." The Sorceress finished in a more casual tone

"Very impressive titles you have there, although I must say… Zatanna." Diana said carefully as she stepped forward from the group and lowered her weapons slightly to show this Shadow Sorceress, that she was not afraid of her in the slightest. "Your choice of outfit lacks for a better word, adequate protection."

"I'm sorry, this coming from the Xenia Warrior Princess wannabe and her crew of cosplaying super models?" Zatanna rhetorically asked with a head tilt and a playful smile as she began to walk in a deliberately slow circle around the Amazons, the action similar to that of an apex predator sizing up a pack of rivals intruding in on its territory, her high heeled boots clicking against the courtyard's stone floor as she eyed each of them with amethyst eyes that glowed in the darkness. "And people say I dress provocatively."

The six Amazons chose not to respond to that clearly mocking comment as they stayed on edge, refusing to lower their guard in case they needed to act. Artemis for her part was taking in their new opponent and couldn't help but agree with her princess's assessment.

Zatanna's choice of clothing left much want in the way of protection as well as very little to the imagination, showing off the Sorceress's rather fantastic figure. Not that the latter bothered her that much, on the contrary, Artemis was in fact, taking in the quite pleasing view and secretly glad that she would at least have something nice to look at whilst fighting for a change as were her three circle sisters.

The Sorceress's raven hair was as black as the darkest of nights while her shining amethyst eyes offered an alluring glow that would stop any passer-by in their tracks, her hourglass figure was both full and toned, soft yet still hard were it counted, particular her large buxom breasts and wide hips leading down to long, powerful looking legs, all topped off by a personality that practically seem to exude charisma and natural confidence.

Regardless of the Amazons general thoughts towards magic and those who practiced it, none of the six warrior women could deny that this Zatanna was a vision of pure magical beauty, had she been born Amazon instead of a Sorceress, they all had no doubt this raven-haired enchantress would have no shortage of potential partners on Themyscira, wanting to claim her as their own, the six of them probably chief among them.

The group of Amazons surprisingly flattering thoughts came to a sudden end though as the Sorceress finally finished her slow circle around the group of Amazons and stared directly at Diana.

"But I'm guessing from the princess title, that you must be Kal's older sister, Diana the Daring, the Daughter of Hippolyta and future Queen of the Amazons." Zatanna said whilst stroking her chin and titling her head to the side to seemingly appraise the powerful looking warrior women standing before her.

Diana, sensing the Sorceress's gaze upon her person, stood up to her full height, widened her stance and looked her potential foe straight in the eyes, she even lowered her weapons all the way down as well just to display her fearlessness.

But whilst Diana's aim had been to display herself as a fierce warrior princess, Zatanna's response however, was not one Diana had been expecting.

"Woah." Zatanna said in a very impressed tone as she continued to look at the Amazon princess from head to toe and then back again before letting out a low whistle.

"I beg your pardon." Diana asked with a suspicious glare.

"Sorry, it's just… dam girl, the gene pool was really kind to your family, wasn't it?" Zatanna asked with an appreciative smile which made Diana struggle not to blush once she finally realised the full implications of the Sorceress's rather… thorough staring.

"I mean, please forgive my crassness here, but seriously princess… woof, I mean, I know Kal is good looking, but come on, the two of you together, that's just not fair to the rest of us." Zatanna said, gesturing to Diana's friends to see if they agreed with her and if Diana had turned around, she would have seen Euboea, Artemis, and Mala all give a look and nod that simply said 'Yeah, we know'.

"Although I must say, gorgeous." Zatanna continued in a curious tone, her gaze more thoughtful now rather than admiring as she continued to examine the Amazonian Princess. "For siblings… you two don't actually look that much alike, do you?"

"Excuse me?" Due in part to her sudden shyness, Dianna's response was automatic and just slipped out before she even had time to think about it.

"I mean, sure you share the same black hair and blue eye colour, yes, but everything else, even your exact shade of black and your general eye shape… is just different from Kal's." Zatanna continued thoughtfully before shrugging. "You usually don't expect that from full blooded siblings, but I guess Kal must take after your father while you just take after your mother."

"That is where you are wrong, Zatanna." Diana stated with a glare, gripping her Twilight Sword just a little tighter. "Neither my brother or I have a father, we were made by our mother's hands and a Goddess's blessing, and your pathetic attempt at trickery will not deceive the Daughter of Hippolyta, Sorceress."

"Hhhmmm? Oh right, right! The whole 'children sculpted from sun warmed clay and a falling night star origin story' Kal told me you were both fed when you were kids." Zatanna said sardonically whilst quoting her words with her fingers, she does know that her 'brother' never bought that for a moment, right? Zatanna privately thought to herself

"I'm so sorry your majesty, I had totally forgotten all about that convenient little tall tale your mother told you?" Zatanna said in an insinuating tone of voice, as if she was trying to imply some sort of deception on the part of her mother, which of course, only infuriated Diana even more. "No offence princess, but I think someone here needs to have a long overdue talk with their mommy about how children are usually made."

"How dare you! My mother is an honourable queen and I will not allow you to discredit her name in my presence, Witch!" Diana raised her blade pointing it at Zatanna, who merely raised her left eyebrow in amusement at the perceived threat.

"Okay, okay, fine, fine, have it your way, princess." Zatanna said with a shrug and a sigh before giving the Daughter of Hippolyta another knowing smirk. "I mean, we wouldn't want you losing that SUNNY disposition of yours, now, would we?" The Sorceress asked with chuckle, causing Diana to give a low growl.

"My apologises though, it would seem I've neglected to properly address my other guests." Zatanna said turning to look at the other five Amazons who still remained armed and on guard.

"Now let me take a guess girls… Artemis, Nubia, Mala, Euboea and… Alexa." Zatanna said, pointing to each Amazon in turn, her smirk widening when their eyes did the same as she successfully identified them all one by one.

"Nice job on the portal spell by the way dear." Zatanna said, praising the youngest Amazonian's magic crafting ability, causing Alexa to blush at the complement, to the obvious annoyance of her older sister Artemis before looking back at Diana and the others. "My, my, my, this little surprise visit must be very important though if the Daughter of the Honourable Queen Hippolyta and her proud Princess Circle friends came all the way to the Shadow Realm to grace me with their presence."

"How do you know our names Witch?" Nubia voice was steady and calm as she asked the question, her breathing even whilst her grip around her mace tightened, but it clear to the rest of the Princess's Circle, that their second in command was very unnerved by how this Sorceress knew all their names. "Did you read our minds with some form of foul mind magic?"

At hearing the words 'foul' and 'magic' used in the same sentence, Zatanna frowned slightly and her eyes flashed pure white ever so briefly. "… and now we have tough and intimidating Nubian women, geez, we are just ticking off the stereotypes tonight, aren't we girls?"

"But to answer your original question Nubia, no, I did not read your minds with some 'foul form of mind magic." Zatanna said in a deadpan tone of voice whilst rolling her amethyst eyes at the Black Amazon. "I simply deduced your indivuals identities from what your dashing prince has told me about the six of you."

"Wait, Kal has told you about us?" Alexa asked in a very surprised tone of voice, sounding very pleased that Kal talked about her but also very shocked that he had done so to this Sorceress.

"Of course, dear." Zatanna said, smiling at the young redheaded Amazon. "Stud and I talk about his old life on Themyscira all the time." Usually over dinner or during training, but mostly right after we have sex, Zatanna thought privately to herself, no need to let Hippolyta's daughter and her little circle of friends know about that aspect of her relationship with their prince, not just yet anyway…

"If that's true Zatanna, then you should know exactly where my brother is at the moment?" Diana's asked as politely as she could manage beneath her anger, her voice was calmer now but still not friendly, to Zatanna's ears she was at least trying to sound diplomatic, to her friends however Dianna had slipped into her court voice or as Artemis called it 'I will gut you if you tick me off again' voice.

"Indeed, I do princess." Zatanna admitted whilst casually crossing her arms, if the Sorceress was intimated by the Amazons growing anger, she was certainly not showing it to them. "But I'm sorry to say ladies, that everyone's favourite super stud is unfortunately not here this evening, and he will be currently unavailable for quite some time."

"And why should we believe you, Sorceress?" Mala asked suspiciously before pointing towards the dark fortress with her battle axe. "For all we know you could be lying to us, you probably have him imprisoned inside a dungeon in that that manor of yours or worse have enslaved him to your will right now via some sort of vile enchantment."

At this rather aggressive accusation, instead of getting of angry in return, Zatanna merely turned to Mala and regarded her with a raised, curious brow and a seemingly knowing smile. "My, my, what a magical imagination you have Mala, it's always the ones you do expect, isn't it?" The Sorceress said as if they were just a bunch a girl's gossiping instead of a group warrior women currently having a tense standoff as she asked. "Any more fun little fantasies you have about your princess's handsome brother you want to share with the rest of the group?"

The sheer implications of her words sent the usually bold and fearless Mala into a blushing and stuttering mess, at which Zatanna just smirked at, clearly very pleased with herself. Nice to see I've still got it; these Amazons are even easier to mess with than Kal was when I first met him…

"Enough of this foolishness." Artemis declared as she stepped forward, clearly getting fed up with this Sorceress playing her mind games with them, as though they existed as something solely for her amusement, it angered the proud huntress more than she could accurately describe.

"Tell us where our princess's brother is right now and if you speak truthfully, we will leave you in one piece, Witch." Artemis had levelled her bow at Zatanna and drew back the arrow ready to send the shaft into the Sorceress's skull. All of which only caused Zatanna to roll her eyes again as she thought to herself, it's like my mother once said, to a Dragoness, a pride of Lionesses is no different than a pack of annoying overgrown house cats.

"Okay. First of all, stop calling a Witch, my name is Zatanna and I'm a Sorceress, there's a big difference, red." Zatanna said with narrowed eyes at Artemis before she began ticking off all her points on her fingers. "Second, Kal is not someone even I could enchant and he is a little too powerful to be imprisoned for very long. Third and finally, he is on a peacekeeping mission of the utmost importance which is just a little too far away for you lot to travel to I'm afraid."

"Why? Where is he?!" Dianna asked desperately, she was already quickly losing her patience with this Sorceress and the thought of her beloved brother being somewhere far beyond her reach only added to her anxiety, she twirled her Twilight Sword in grasp before swinging it through the air to show her anger and ability to cut Zatanna to pieces if she dared to deceive her. "Tell me now Sorceress."

"Well, if you really must know princess." Zatanna said dryly, seemingly unphased by Diana's distress or her anger. "Your brother is currently in the underwater city of Atlantis with his teammates, helping his friend Arthur prevent a civil war between the Tribes of the Seven Seas and I know the last thing that Kal needs right now is his perfect princess sister and her group of fiery feminists suddenly showing up to crash the delicate negotiating's."

Atlantis? Why would my brother be helping the half-breed prince and his tribe make peace with their aquatic neighbours? Diana thought to herself, greatly confused by this new information and not entirely sure if she even believed it. Kal knows the Atlanteans are one of the Amazons oldest enemies, so why would he be helping them?

"But since you are his sister, I will be happy to take a message for you, your majesty." Zatanna said with a smirk, uncrossing her arms. "Other than that, though princess, I'm afraid none of you are seeing Superman today, so you and your all ladies club here will just have to come back and wait in line in with the rest of Kal's fangirls."

Zatanna then flashed a winning smile to the Daughter of Hippolyta and her Princess Circle before turning her back to them, signalling that she was quite finished with this whole conversation, whether they liked it or not. "It was so nice meeting you girls, don't let the portal close in on you on the way out."

Diana and the rest of her fellow Amazons watched in fuming silence as Zatanna began to walk back towards her manor.

Artemis however, who could not take her friend and princess being insulted, who was this Witch to think she could turn her back on Themysciran royalty. She loosened the arrow from her bow, smirking at the speed in which it travelled towards its target.

She had aimed for the Sorceress's shoulder, only intending to flesh wound Zatanna in order to teach her a lesson in respecting the Amazons of Themyscira, but her smirk faltered when the arrow stopped meres inches from the Sorceress's shoulder, halted and glowing with magical power.

An awkward silence ruled for an uncomfortably long time before Zatanna finally spoke once more with ominous chuckle. "My, my, you're just so eager for a fight, aren't you Artemis?"

"I would tell you that was a nice try, but come on, I think we both know it wasn't." Zatanna commented dryly without looking at them as levitated the arrow into her hand and examined it briefly before letting out another ominous chuckle, which caused the small group of Amazons to fall back into a defensive circle as she asked rather rhetorically. "Any of you Amazons suddenly getting the feeling you just awoke a sleeping Dragoness and filled her with a terrible fire?"

"But I must say, I do admire your bravery in trying to threaten a Shadow Sorceress in her own Shadow Realm." The Sorceress said sarcastically as she casually twirled the arrow around in her fingers tips before making it disappear in a flash of light. "But girls, in case you hadn't noticed yet, its night time now… and it's funny how some things are so much scarier in the dark."

When Zatanna finally turned to look at the armed group of warrior woman, her friendly smile was now gone, replaced by a sinister smirk and to the Amazons shock, her amethyst eyes where now glowing a pupiless, piercing white that bored into them with dark intent. "Well, I hope you six savoured your time in the light, as I'm afraid things are about to get rather dark."

"Because, if it's a fight you want so badly, I'm more than happy to oblige, just allow me to… change first, ladies." Zatanna said, as she pulled the Torches of Darkness out from behind her back and crossed them together over her head whilst saying " TI SDNAMMOC SSERTISM ROUY, EM OT EMOC SSENKARD!"

As the loud, backwards words left her mouth, black, shadowy fire erupted from the two torches and began to swirl around Zatanna before completely covering and engulfing her in its darkness, until finally, the Mistress of Magic had quite literally become a Shadow Sorceress right before the Amazons eyes.

"Hello darkness, my old friend…" Zatanna said aloud as much to herself as to the Amazons at this point as the darkness covered Sorceress stalked closer to her opponents.

"So, just to recap ladies, you've trespassed into my realm, called me a Witch to my face numerous times and now just tried to assault me." The darkness covered and white eyed Shadow Sorceress said in a clearly angry tone of voice that echoed all around them. "Yeah, I'm feeling pretty justified in what I'm about to do to all of you, let's just see how formidable you Amazons really are, shall we?"

"WAIT! Artemis was being rash, but please, we can still-" Dianna began to speak, despite her own anger, she was still hoping to resolve this without fighting with this clearly powerful Sorceress, however that hope died as her words were drowned out by Zatanna's loud backwards ones.

"SNOZAMA EHT TA WODAHS TOOHS!" The loud incantation caused the shadows from the surrounding dark forest to lash to life and shoot out towards the six Amazons at shocking speed.

However, before the shadows could either strike or ensnare them, Dianna raised her Twilight Sword on instinct as if her arm moved by itself. She was amazed when the sword ignited itself with flaming light and sent the shadows scurrying back to the darkness as her body began to glow with the same energy, to the shock of her Amazonian sisters, but not so to the unsurprised looking Sorceress.

"Well, that was an impressive and totally unexpected little trick you have their, your majesty." The Mistress of Magic complemented with a slow, condensing clap whilst quoting Diana's own earlier words at her. "But I'm afraid that I'm still the showstopper around here, princess."

Diana felt her mind race as she stared at her now shining Twilight Sword, her weapon had never done anything like that before and she never felt so alive or herself either, but before she could think about it for long, Zatanna pointed one of her torches at her, causing a black beam of shadow to shoot towards her, which Amazon princess blocked with her Stheno Shield.

Okay, fight the admittedly very powerful, very attractive Sorceress now, figure out the whole light and fire thing later, Diana thought to herself as she and her sisters focused on the battle at hand.

The Zatanna meanwhile just smirked confidently at her six opponents, her doing so in her dark form making for a truly terrifying sight to the group of Amazons whilst she thought privately to herself, well, fighting Kal's sister and her friends wasn't exactly how I wanted to spend this evening, but I can't have them stumbling through portal after portal into Atlantis or anywhere else Stud might be for that matter without them clearly causing an incident, so I guess I get to play the evil witch stereotype after all.
