Chapter Fifty-One
Tsuna stared at Reborn who is sipping his espresso. Wise onyx eyes glanced at him from the wall of photos, but didn't say anything. They decided to keep the elephant in the room a little more. He just woke up from passing out. It's currently two in the morning and he's bundled up with his blanket, clutching Reborn's replica to his heart.
"That Bakugou," Reborn started off. "for someone with a storm personality, he has rain flames."
"No wonder I can come to him so easily when I have my troubles." He muttered, remembering the things he had said to Katsuki since they became acquaintances to friends.
"Midoriya was the boy with green hair, yes? He has lightning flames."
He rose a brow. "Picking out elements now?"
"Just remembering things." The hitman, his advisor, responded simply. "I have a hard time remembering things when I was in Italy. Who knew you'll be the trigger for it. But, there's still something missing."
"Remembering things?"
"Since I came to this world, my counterpart's memories are coming at me. But it wasn't that full. Not the full details. When I saw you though, some of it came rushing in. And like I've said, there's something missing."
"Then you can remember," Tsuna blushed before groaning softly. "I must have looked stupid on stage."
"My counterpart appreciated how you sing, Tsuna. Even your own version of 'O Sole Mio was wonderful."
He looked down to his plushy with a darker blush. It was his first time being praised by his original Reborn in an open way. "Thanks."
"Your Dad, Shouta Aizawa, was it?" He perked up. Reborn smirked. "Doting?"
He pouted. "Dad is Dad. He's accepting as I am." He paused. "Well, after spending time with me and taking on all of the weirdness I brought with me. He even accepted you as a whole after I explained things to him. You'll like him." His eyes flashed orange. "He's family."
"I'll be the judge of that."
"Speaking of family, how are the things in the other side?"
Reborn told him what happened for the past eleven, almost twelve, years he 'died' from there. In a sense, the whole world mourned for his death. The perpetrators were killed by Lambo that same night he died. Regardless, with Hayato's help, they were able to accept that Tsuna is dead and they have to move on. As of now, the eleven generation is taking their place, with Xelena, Xanxus' daughter, as the Vongola Undicesimo and some selected elements.
What he was relieved though was the fact that Vongola remained as a vigilante group. Up to now, his guardians are complete with their own families. Hayato has three children, Takeshi has two, Ryohei has four, Mukuro and Chrome has three, Kyouya has three while Lambo and Ipin have five, and yes, the youngest girl is named after Nana.
"I died with old age. I'm hundred seventy-two." Reborn informed.
Tsuna sobbed as fat tears rolled over. "It must have been hard for Aetu."
"Psh." The other huffed. "He was grinning when I died. He wanted to take my place as the world's greatest hitman."
He moved out of his bed and walked for his adviser. "I'm sorry." And he gave a hug as he sobbed. "I'm sorry."
The hitman sighed, leaning in to the warm embrace. "Don't apologize."
"But Aetu will be lonely without you." He sobbed. "And you'll miss him. It will be hard. He was your very son and you really adore him."
"It will be fine." The other assured. "He has the family there. And you're here with me. Family sticks together, Tsuna. I'll be fine." Then he was hit on the back side of the head. "You're such a crybaby."
"Old age." He laughed before pulling away and wiping the tears. "I sound like a drunk." Then he wiped Reborn's dry cheeks. "When you feel like it, okay?"
Gratefulness flashed in those onyx eyes. "Yes, boss."
He stepped back and sat down to his bed. He looked at Reborn directly. "Can we address it now?" He got a nod, so he took a deep breath. "What happened?"
"I was in a date and finished dinner when I felt some eyes on me." Reborn started, crossing his arms as his jaw locked. "I let my date get a cab first before I went on my way. I confronted them, but my guns are no match to their... Quirks, as Viper had explained to me. If only I have access to my sun flames, I could've known how to use chaos shot or some of my techniques.
"But Lal is on it." Tsuna tensed at the indication. "Xanxus couldn't appeal since we are an Arcobaleno, and everyone of them is out for blood. It's your choice. Ship them here or step in their territory." The hitman eyed him. "I will not interfere here. He was yours to begin with. The whole Italy knows that he had placed his life for someone here in Japan. And the only reason why the Arcobaleno are not on all out war is because they're waiting for you."
He looked outside the veranda, eyes glowing orange in anger. "I did promise him I'll burn half of the world to mourn for him." He glanced at his adviser who smirked. "Then I guess it's time for the mafia to feel threatened and be warned who the boss is among all of us."
His hitman nodded. "I'm at your back, Boss."
"Remember when I said I was part of a group?" Tsuna started off, scanning them with grateful eyes. "Reborn, as I call him Renato nowadays, was part of them. He has this amazing quirk that we call transcendence. His soul jumps from one body to another, as long as compatible with his soul and the body he was using died. The reason there are two Reborns is because the one who came back had retired when we met, while the one who..." He cleared his throat. "Slipped away changed his name that way. Coincidence. In a way, two Reborns existed with the same personalities, quirks and almost the same ability, except the other one knows me well, while the latter is getting to know me."
"But you said you lost them both." Hanta pointed out before taking some of his food to his mouth.
He smiled sadly. "I did."
They're currently in their dining room, eating their breakfast after getting dragged by Kirishima and Izuku to get inside because they've been running since. The girls were already awake by then and asked them to get into shower before eating. He obliged.
The night before, he was able to sleep a little more after hearing Reborn cry his heart out on his back for being unable to see his son ever again. He knew how painful it is. Reborn has been alive for all his life. All of the Arcobaleno back in his world and the new world are tired for being alive for so long. They wanted rest. And Tsuna doesn't know how to comfort Reborn. He wanted him to rest too if he needs it. In the end, he coaxed the hitman to sleep after and left him sleeping before going for his jog with Izuku and Kirishima. He doesn't know if Reborn gained his flames though, but he looked like he needed the rest, so Tsuna gave the comfort he needed.
Thankfully, the man is still on his bed when he went to change and get his bag. He left a note that he went for class and he'll leave him a breakfast, so he can stay all he wants. He pulled the blanket until the hitman's neck and gave him a kiss on the forehead. As a joke, he made him cuddle his replica. He'll face the backlash when he gets it. And right now, he's being asked about what happened.
"Renato, who is sleeping right now, had left me with those people I was with." He glanced at Katsuki. "When they left, he was strong. Stronger than anyone I know. It's the reason why he's said to be number one. So when I heard him replace Reborn, who slipped away, I just knew I lost both of them." He looked down to his food. "All at the same time."
"What happened?" Kouji asked softly.
"Renato died in an old age." He answered. "Reborn died because of an ambush. He was killed by-" He closed his eyes and took a deep breath to calm his anger. It will have its time. "He's not really the helpless one. He can defend himself, and he's a healer. The only downside of it is the fact that he can't heal himself." He pursed his lips and shook his head. "But it's fine." He assured to all of the eyes that are watching him. "I have my own shares of 'what if's and 'if I could only's. Maybe the only regret I have now is being unable to stop him from going. But I'll use them to get stronger or for something to never happen again." Then he waved his hand. "Sorry. I made our breakfast gloomy."
"No. We were the ones who asked, Tsuna. We're sorry." Mashirao said.
"It's alright. I troubled you enough with my situation." He smiled at their surprised expressions. "Thank you for all the help and efforts you made to cheer me up and keep me distracted. I appreciate them. There are times that I wanted to cry, but you come in at the right moment to distract me." He took one of his side dish. "When I'm in my room, I couldn't really bring myself to tear up cause I feel like I'll be betraying you if I do. I couldn't put your efforts to waste. In a way, you all became my own kind of little skies." He looked up and beamed. "So thank you."
He smiled at their beams and blushing faces. It wasn't that hard to figure out. Someone must have heard what happen that's why they decided to make him happy even for a little. They honestly worked. Regardless of thinking that both Reborns are died, he couldn't cry because he'll remember their efforts. Even Shouta noticed it. The subtle glance on his way, the signs, and his slow recovery. Of course he will give his Dad some credits. The man had been texting him if he's okay or does he want someone to cuddle, cause he's available.
He thinks Eri thought of him too. Like she knows he needed comfort because the girl will offer her hand to hold or just let Natsu go with him. Hitoshi got a wind too, noticing his behaviour and offering a shoulder to lean on whenever in lunch. Really. He's so thankful to his friends.
The day proceeded to its usual course. He's catching up to the lesson he missed, not that he will since he knows them with familiarity. By the last bell, Tsuna went for the dorm to check on his hitman. Reborn was awake, eating his cold breakfast but sipping a steaming espresso.
"How was school?" The other asked before taking a bite.
Tsuna made a thinking face, halting from doing his homework. "Fun? In a way?"
"Good to hear. I'm going out for some arrangements, by the way." Reborn informed, onyx eyes peering at him. "I'm going to get you by the hour of the rat."
"Romeo style?" He teased, earning an easy chuckle.
"Sure. If you'd like that."
He let his tongue play with his lip. "Can I inform Dad? He deserves to know."
"If you think it's right, do it."
He pursed his lips. "I don't want to leave him out again. He doesn't deserve it. Besides, he considered Reborn as his friend and part of the family. It's not like I'm killing anyone because he won't approve." He paused. "Well, if they don't provoke me, of course."
"May I know why you're a vigilante again and not a hero?"
"Because I vow to be a vigilante, since I'm not the-" He raised two fingers in both hands and moved them as quotations. "-'hero'-" Then he dropped his hands as he stared at the wall of photos. "-material. If I was a hero, I'll try hard to go fly for Italy, which will result me to draining my flames. But because I'm a vigilante, I know when it's hopeless but I still tried. I rely. Heroes cannot kill, I have and will probably kill." He turned to his tutor who looked satisfied. "That's what you taught me."
"I know."
He turned back to his papers. "I'll explain to Dad too. He'll probably think of you as Reborn, but the ancient one." He moved his head to the side to catch the alarm clock. "Being trigger happy, Reborn-kun?"
"You make me feel old."
"I love you too, Reborn." He snickered and put the alarm clock to the side.
Reborn left at six, using the terrace, while he went down to cook dinner for him and his Dad. He was helped by Katsuki, who has nothing to do, he says, and left by six-forty-five. The talk with Shouta about what happened was enlightening. His Dad stared at him for a whole minute before letting him go. It was just Italy. They won't take that long, knowing Reborn may or may not have a connection to 'borrow' a jet. He has to get Reborn keep him in check though, because Shouta absolutely forbids him to kill anyone, intentional or accident. As long as he's careful too, and he comes back with no scratch and on time with their class, Shouta has no worries.
It's not that Shouta wants him to go, as the other explained. They both know that Tsuna has more knowledge how the mafia works, how to threaten anyone and how to make the world mourn for their family's death. Even if it's against protocol to let the brunet out, this is family matters, so valid as an excuse. His Dad has a choice too, but he knows how stubborn Tsuna can be. Especially when his pride is hurt. The conditions have their purposes, so he's not really a free man in Italy. Not that he has any more say in it because he knows the teen is only informing him, not asking his permission. Tsuna honestly laughed at that. His Dad is possessive at best.
He came back to the dorm at nine pm and mingled a little. He retired by nine-thirty to, at least, get some sleep, then woke up by eleven-thirty to prepare for his departure. After ten minutes nearing midnight, his intuition pointed him to the balcony. He carefully opened his terrace and glanced at Katsuki's room as he closed it. He sighed in relief when he saw it closed. The blond is usually asleep by nine. Tsuna went over the railings and was about to scale down when the door opened and Katsuki went out while wearing his shirt, instead of the usual muscle shirt. His eyes widened.
"Going somewhere, Tsuna." That wasn't a question.
He winced. "Yeah. Italy."
The other frowned. "Why?"
"It's where my Reborn died." He answered as he looked downed to his hitman who is waiting for him. Knowing the man, he might as well know that he got caught. "We're going to settle some things there. Some of my trusted members have figured out who ambushed him, so I'm going to give them a piece of my mind."
"And since you're sneaking out, it means no one knows this." The blond concluded.
"Except Dad." He corrected. "Not as our teacher though. He knows how I work, so he let me be. I know it sounds unfair, but it's either I told him now and I sneaked out, or I tell him after I came back. But don't worry, I'll be back early morning. It won't be long for it to be settled."
"How long?"
He hesitated. "I'll have to ask Reborn how are we going to get there. We have unusual... Connections, you see."
"I'm coming with you." His eyes widened at the declaration. "I am not letting you go out alone without a back up."
"It's not as simple as you think it is, Katsuki." He hissed as he went over again to give the teen a talk. "You don't want to dive deeper in my life. You already have Izuku and All Might-san to think of. You don't want my secrets to be added on your plate."
"It's not a secret, is it?" The other gauged, red eyes staring at him. "You said all people needed to do was to ask you and you'll tell them what you know. So I'm gonna ask you, who are you affiliated to, Tsuna?"
"Katsuki-" He closed his eyes as he pursed his lips.
"I hate being left out to the dark, Tsuna. Do you know how it feels to hear you crying that time without me doing anything to at least comfort you? I don't know what I could do to cheer you up when you were in the dumps and trying to act like nothing happened. I wanted to approach you, but how can I, when I don't even know who are you talking about?"
"I'm sorry." He opened his eyes and stared at the blond. "If I'm going to tell you this, you have to be open minded, got it? And listen to me when I say something."
"You're not the boss of me." The other growled before going inside his room. It didn't take long for the other to go out with a jacket worn.
"We're scaling down." He informed as he went over the terrace, and he was followed. "Be quiet as you can be. No one should see us."
"Camera?"
"I have that covered." He answered as he activated his mist flames. "Have I explained to you how my flames work?"
"No?" The blond answered as they started to go down from one balcony to another.
Tsuna checked his intuition for any movements on both room as he whispered. "The flames I'm using now is mist flames. They create illusions. Careful, we're down to Iida."
"I know." The other murmured.
They slowly went down and met Reborn. The hitman didn't say a word, but he did give a glance to their third companion. Tsuna put a hand on Katsuki arm and let his mist flames manifest to cover them. He nodded to his adviser, and they started to walk. They didn't talk as they walked for the gates. Tsuna switched hands, putting his other hand on Katsuki's arm and let his hand rub his back in a soothing way. Katsuki's tensed shoulder slowly relaxed.
The three of them stopped in front of the steel closed gate. Tsuna raised a brow at Reborn, who looked he's waiting. It didn't take long though, when it opened. Reborn beckoned them to hurriedly go out. He pushed Katsuki out, following closely while Reborn is at his back. They passed the entering guard and went out undetected. They continued that way until they were out of earshot.
"Given there is no limo, you must have gotten a hold of them?" He asked, still keeping his hands on Katsuki.
"I did. Kawahira might or might not show up later." Reborn answered, expression turning a little sour. "That slippery bastard."
Tsuna chuckled. "I thought you're past this."
"Shut up. He was trying to get you as his son too. Why does everyone think you're their son?"
"Because you have a son, duh." He ducked when the other tried to slap his head. "Trigger happy, Reborn-kun?"
"Just wait when all of my memories get back. I'll get you back." The other huffed.
"You're too old to hold grudges." He chided, bumping his hip to the hitman's. He got a small bump in retaliation.
"My body is young, so I can still hold grudges." Reborn smirked that he rolled his eyes at.
"Katsuki." He addressed to the blond beside him as they entered a dark alley. "I haven't officially introduced you to my tutor, adviser and my father figure when I was running my organization, this is Renato, originally called Reborn by many, the world's greatest hitman."
Red eyes widened and turned to Reborn who smirked and tipped his hat. "Chaos, Katsuki Bakugou. It's nice to officially meet someone who can keep this dame student of mine in control."
"Oi oi. We're past the useless Tsuna phase."
"Nope. Dino is my favorite."
He feigned a hurt look. "I'll never make you my espresso again."
"Psh." Reborn tutted as they stopped walking. "It's not like I care."
"Who was it who got withdrawals when I stopped making it?" He let go of Katsuki. "He kept on bugging me to make it because he likes it better."
"I hate you."
He cheekily grinned, remembering the other's comeback yesterday. "You love me."
Katsuki tensed when the air suddenly grew cold. "What the fuck is happening?"
"Do you know a thing or two about the underground world, Katsuki?" He asked as he heard some chains rustling and rattling. He got a shake of head. "There are three big organizations: mafia, yakuza and triad. These three are like our normal community but more violent and they do dirty works. But, like our community, they also have their own kind of justice."
"They have police?" The other gawked.
He nodded as fog started to form. "They're called Vindice, and they have a building called Vendicare. It holds the most dangerous and infamous criminals in the world." He gave a smirk as he glanced at his hitman. "Well, some."
"Sun Arcobaleno." A cold gruff voice called as three figures with trench coats and top hats appeared through the fog and made appearance. Like ever, they have their bandages on. "Vongola Sky bearer. You have called?"
"Greetings, Jaeger-san. Can we use your portals to get to Italy and back?" He asked politely. "We have an urgent meeting with the Vongola."
"Regarding the death of the hitman?"
"Yes." He answered, eye flashing orange.
"The civilian?"
"Is my element." He continued without a beat.
"Very well."
A portal opened behind the Vindice and they stepped aside. Tsuna ushered Katsuki inside, Reborn at the back. As they stepped inside, they came out to a place where the sky is still lit with the sunlight and adorned colors of the setting sun. The building were as he remembered them. He looked back to the Vindice and gave a nod of 'thanks' before they started to walk.
"Wait." He turned back to see a portal opened and Big Pino stepped out with Bermuda and Small Gia on his shoulders. "Greetings, Tsunayoshi Sawada."
He gingerly let Katsuki go to face the head of the Vindice and gave a small bow. "Good evening, Bermuda-san. May I know the reason of why you graced me with your presence?"
"I am verily here to see if you really are the encompassing sky as he has worded." The baby stated. "Seeing you are bottling a lot of flames in you, you haven't harmonized to anyone." Then black eyes flickered to Katsuki and Reborn. "Yet, I suppose."
"I do not plan in doing so." He responded. "If this is about the curse, I have broken it in unnameable and unknown way. If this is about my hitman, I do not need your help, except if you offer to imprison all of them."
"Reborn is on top of our list, regardless, he is an Arcobaleno. His death is not granted. Justice has to be served." Jaeger informed from his position in Japan.
He grinned evilly. "Then we have a deal."
"We will come." Bermuda confirmed before they stepped back to their portals and let it close.
He turned back to his companions. "Let's go."
"How the hell did you know all those mummies?" His classmate demanded as they exited the alley. "What kind of quirk was that? And that baby?"
"The baby is their boss." Reborn responded as they get into the busy street. "Those people are the police Tsuna talks about. They're far dangerous than the... Villains you have encountered. We know them because we have fought them back then and eventually, with Tsuna's adamant and persuasive talks, they became part of our family."
"Our version of them." He supplied as they turned to a hotel. "You've asked me what am I affiliated with, Katsuki." He craned his neck to see the other. "Reborn and I were part of the mafia. He was my adviser, and I was his boss."
