Chapter 26: When Reality Hits
The sword stopped about a millimeter into his neck, Jim wouldn't pretend in that moment that he wished he'd finished the job. But he didn't. Infact, he could almost feel Indigo's sigh from a distance.
No matter how awful, no child should ever watch their parents die. And that. Was truly the reason he'd stopped. Not the fact that this would be murder, not the fact of morality. Just that Indi shouldn't be a contender in this. No matter how much she hated her father, Jim didn't want it on her conscience.
The sword vanished into red smoke, and Arthur collapsed pathetically as he whimpered for his sparred life.
It hadn't been anything dramatic, Jim had simply found him in the park, snapped his gun in half, and swung. For some reason though, Indi's presence lingered in Jim's brain. Arg was with her, and she was safe, but she was watching from a distance, as per her request. She wanted to be there, against Jim's will.
He turned to look at Arg and Indigo and viewed the girl's tear streaked face. Though she simply nodded with a smile at Jim. And that's when he knew he'd made the right choice.
It wasn't grand, but Darci's dad came, took the sniveling man away, and Indi could once again breathe.
She ran into his arms, the armor disappearing as she hit, hard enough to almost knock him over. Dried blood flaked on her face as she nuzzled into his chest. He nuzzled the top of her head and wrapped them both in his tail. "We'll make sure he's never going to get out again, I'll lock him up in Trollmarket if I have to."
"I know. But I don't care. You're here. So I'm safe!" She said as she cried silently.
Jim's eyes glowed purple, a magnificent color mixing with the red and spoke.
"Indigo, will you be my mate? For life?"
He said it so confidently, she couldn't believe it. But she nodded. Spoke soft words. "Of course." And kissed him hard.
