Chapter 27: These Fleeting Moments
Jim gave the graduation speech, roaring at the end causing the crowd to cheer. Claire, valedictorian. Toby and Darcy's superlative was Most likely to get married. It would've got to Jim and Indi, but they were Mates and practically already married. Besides, one week after graduation, Jim took Indigo to troll market for the first time, after they'd been there about a week, and Jim had time to make the ring, he took her to the best lookout point over Trollmarket and popped the question.
He gave his thanks for her acceptance, her trust and her love, how they'd faced criminals and death together, the family they'd made with the lions, and their friends. Her patience with him figuring himself out and learning with him, how to have the best relationship possible.
"You're my best friend," He said, stifling back tears. "My partner in crime, my mate. Will you, Indigo, also be my wife?"
She had silent tears running down her face as she nodded. "Took you long enough!"
A soft kiss, and a hug later. They began their newest adventure!
Amara was the maid of honor, and Barbara planned most of the wedding. Their colors were silver like Indi's eyes, and purple for Jim's. Anyone he'd saved in the time before he met Indi was invited, and they all came. Not much else mattered. They had their official mating ceremony in Trollmarket after the wedding in California. Only Toby and Claire came to that.
Claire moved into Trollmarket to study with Merlin, quickly becoming a great sorceress. Alongside Douxie, her new boyfriend. Toby finally hit a growth spurt, and opened a gym, throwing the hammer around did his physique a lot of good. Darcy became a successful lawyer, and they became very wealthy. Getting married shortly after Jim and Indi. Followed by Strickler and Barbara. Jim couldn't be more proud of his new dad.
Trouble and Mace were both released into the wild when it was found Jenna was once again pregnant, so Indi and Jim went on an exhibition to Africa to say farewell to his little brother.
For a year, Jim and Indi ventured around California, being vigilantes, zoo part time employees, volunteers, convention enthusiasts (just to confuse and have fun with people without the glamour mask) , park rangers, and just plain happy.
It was some time in that year that Blinkey requested them to move to Trollmarket or New Jersey at least. To learn trollish, help with the continued rebuilding around the new heartstone, and what Binkey said, was that he just plain missed the boy.
They agreed, and with the help of the giant crystals Jim sold for income, they bought a house in the New Jersey suburbs, just south of the Statue Of Liberty. It wasn't too long after they'd moved that they ran into someone, Jim hoped he'd never see again.
It was while doing a hobby he loved, putting on the glamour mask to look like 16-year-old Jim, going to the gym, and deadlifting 400lbs. Indi went with him to do normal person workout stuff, but loved watching the men's faces anyways.
She was doing her own thing, handstand push-ups, when she watched Jim go pale, and the barbell and weights go clamoring to the ground with a violent ringing that caused everyone in the gym to stare.
Not that Jim paid any mind, his gaze was solely focused on one person, a middle aged man, with a scruffy beard, and piercing blue eyes that were too familiar for Indi not to know who he was.
Like a breath leaving the dead, the word came from his lips silently. "Dad."
Although many of you asked, I will not be continuing this story, I will however be writing another. Taking off from this moment in time.
