A/N:
Can I just say that these chapters are ones of the those emotional ones I wrote and read all over again? HAHAHA!
Squidhead: I suddenly got reminded of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint with your username. So, yeah! He"ll survive. And thank you!
bunnyxstar: Thank you!
rama-miss: Oh my God! HAHAHA! I swear I'm not procrastinating. MWAHAHA! I just think that I needed a filler chapter that has a small Aizawa-Tsuna bonding. A small fluff before the next thing. (Or maybe I was procrastinating. *hugs and hides behind the nearest person beside me out of shame and embarrassment*)
Lunary: No worries! Tsuna has a future. A good one honestly.
Ten or more chapters to go and we will go under hiatus until the manga gets further ahead and I get to write the continuation, by the, let's just enjoy the rest of the story.
Anyway, go on! HAHAHAHA!
Chapter Sixty-Four
Shouta got ushered inside his room by Tsuna while still crying. He couldn't remember the last time he cried so hard. Even when Shirakumo died, he wept silently. He frankly felt like a child as the brunet made him sit on his bed and just sat beside him. Nothing was said for a moment. It's as if Tsuna is letting him cry his heart out, and he just couldn't stop every time he wants to.
"You never really questioned why it's you." Tsuna said softly and patient. "Maybe because you're the one who took me in, and not the other way around. It's more of why did I let you."
"I couldn't even save a cat." He rasped out.
"Well, you were a kid that time. You couldn't juggle your personal life and your studies that well since you're a teen too, still adjusting. Adding a cat to your responsibilities will burden you more. Given the fact that Uncle Hizashi told me you were struggling to be sure about your future as a hero that time, you'll feel burdened with how much things you have to take care of. So it's understandable that all you could do for the little kit is to give him an umbrella."
He calmed down a little from the rational explanation. "Really?"
The brunet gazed at him at the corner of his eyes with a warm smile. "Really. Even I have troubles doing things. I struggle with studies and hero practice. But after a few years, you'll be fine. Imagine, you started a hero agency of your own and became an underground hero who takes night time shifts to be sure that everything is alright and no citizens are troubled, while avoiding the media all together. I mean, I have heard about you from my Tousan when I was still three, and Kaasan was really impressed with your works, so I know how great you were."
He can't help flushing. "What if I don't succeed?"
"You know their saying that as long as you're breathing and living, you can try again? Being a hero is not a test run or an experiment. It's a field work with one wrong move and everyone dies. But when a villain escaped, what will you do?"
"Try to catch him again- Oh." He blurted, earning a proud smile.
"See. You don't have to worry. Just believe in yourself." Tsuna moved and faced him. With dexterous hands, the brunet, his son, brushed away his tears. "It must be refreshing to cry again, doesn't it?"
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, staring at those warm caramel eyes. "That you were my son."
"Would you have believed me?" He mummed. "If you lost your memories of me instead, I'll do the same thing. I don't want you to get confused. I don't want you to overload with information because of my carelessness. As long as you adjust, it's fine by me."
"It's not hard for you to be formal?"
"Around you? No. Your reaction is the same when I have to call you Aizawa-san. I was four that time and waited to call you Shouta." A nostalgic smile formed in those lips. "When you felt that I could call you by your given name, you asked me to do it. I can never forget how much you blush whenever I call you Shouta. Even when I call you Dad. You'll go all red, then you'll look away or hide in your scarf and I have to have you snap out of it cause you won't respond." Those eyes crinkled as Tsuna cupped his cheeks. "You're the adorable one between us. So shy."
"T-Tsuna!" He admonished, feeling his face heating up.
"See!" The brunet laughed before ruffling his hair. "I've always wondered how different you were back then, in this age, because you always say you were grumpy and you hated bullshits." This mischief glazed those eyes. "I should probably search for that guy who turned you into this. I want to take care of a small Shouta. How adorable can you get?"
He gaped. "Are you really my son? How can you tease me like this?"
Tsuna laughed. "Because I am your son. You tease me too. You'll go all out scaring me since you know how I'm scared of ghost. You'll make me sulky when you don't want to cuddle with me and chooses that little thing I sewed for you. I don't even know what you named it. All you call it is Little."
Shouta realized that the older him sees Tsuna in that furry brown cat stuff toy, that's why he calls it 'Little Tsu', and doesn't want the brunet to know because he'll tease him. Shit. They're that close?
"Ah. It's getting late." He eyed Tsuna who made him stand up. "Come on. To the bathroom, Aizawa-san. We have to brush our teeth before going to bed."
"Which is your toothbrush?" He asked as they entered the bathroom.
"The orange one. You like yellow, so everytime I go shopping and we needed new, I get yellow and orange. Why? Did you use the orange one?" The other teased while giving him the yellow.
He immediately shook his head. "No. I used yellow because I like yellow." A brow was raised at him, making him more embarrassed. "I really didn't."
Tsuna chuckled. "Kidding, Aizawa-"
"S-Shouta." He corrected, looking away as his face went hotter than awhile ago. "It's Shouta."
"Here's the toothpaste, Shouta." He looked over to the brunet who grinned widely. He felt attacked by the sun with how beautiful it is. "Thanks."
He can't help pouting a little as he received the toothpaste and put an amount to his toothbrush. Why does he receive a smile? No hugs? They proceeded to brush their teeth silently, occasionally glancing at each other. Even from the mirror, he could see happiness in Tsuna's eyes. He can't help himself from looking away and flushing more. Argh. He felt like a girl.
After rinsing their mouths, and making sure the sink is clean, Tsuna guided him to his room again. He was ushered to get inside his bed, which he did, before the brunet draped the blanket on him. He held the blanket in his fists, hiding the lower part of his face as he watched Tsuna go for lights and turn it off.
"You're going?" He asked. He saw the brunet nod from the light coming from the balcony.
"Iida will have my hide if he noticed I'm not inside the dorm when the morning comes." He closed his eyes tightly when he felt soft lips kissed his forehead. He felt his whole face erupt red after Tsuna pulled away. He felt like a child when he's a teen. "We'll see each other again tomorrow. And go to sleep. Problem how you'll face me tomorrow. You need to rest."
"Y-Yes."
He heard a chuckle, causing him to open an eye. The brunet moved for his balcony. "Good night, Shouta."
"N-Night." He stammered.
He heard the curtain move before the door closed. He wanted to dwell on what happened, but he felt himself getting sleepy, and he slept.
xxx
"You have that wrong, Shouta." Tsuna hummed while pointing out the sentence with the back of his pencil. "That should be 'are' cause there are two gerunds."
"Sure?" He asked, frowning at the sentence.
Tsuna nodded beside him. "Try saying it in both verb. You'll find the right one when it sounds right."
He raised a brow at the other who chuckled. Either ways, he tested it out. "Having a house and raising a family is accomplishments already." He cringed.
"Try the other one."
"Having a house and raising a family are accomplishments already." He blinked and nodded. "Yeah. It's 'are'."
He didn't miss the proud grin on the brunet's lips.
They're currently working on an English exercise with Yamada as their teacher. For the record, Yamada is a great teacher. Everything is pretty much understandable, not that he doesn't remember how it works, but English isn't one of his strong fits. It takes a while for him to get a hang of it. Also, it's not that he's required to learn them, he is going back to normal in the next three days. However, Tsuna pushes him to learn so he could have something to do and have a little fun.
He glanced at the brunet who responded to Yamada's calls. He looked away hurriedly when he thought his son is going to look at him. If Yamada is an effective teacher, Tsuna is also a good tutor. He has this gentle tone, making him remember the song he heard being sang by the brunet. Other than that, he noticed how relaxed and happy the brunet is. Much more the whole class. It's as if when Tsuna greeted him with his name, all of his students lit up. Maybe they were worried that Tsuna is affected about his situation?
He looked at his son when the brunet rubbed his arms while frowning. A little worried, Shouta removed his coat and put it over Tsuna's shoulders. Caramel eyes snapped to him, wide like saucers. He willed his blush down. It was on impulse. As if knowing why he did that, Tsuna nodded a 'thanks' to him before looking down to their shared book. He wonders why the brunet is cold. He even resorted to wearing his mittens even though it's already a little warm.
There must be something wrong...
"You okay, Shouta?" He turned to the brunet who's looking at him worriedly.
"Are you okay?" He questioned back, reaching over to fix his coat on the teen's shoulders. "You look cold."
"I am cold." Tsuna chuckled, as he put his arms on his table and made them his pillow for his head.
"You aren't getting sick, are you?" He earned a shake of head. Still, he put a hand on the forehead. He watched the kid lean on his touch with eyes closed. "You like it?"
"It's warm." The brunet mumbled.
Shouta became more worried before taking his small bag and made Tsuna hug it. The brunet hummed. "Keep yourself warm, okay?" He got a nod. "Do you want me to escort you to Recovery Girl?"
"No. I just want you here." His heart swelled at the silent plea. "I just want Shouta here. Shouta is enough."
"Okay." He assured, taking Tsuna's hand to his and held it tight. "I'll be here until you feel better."
If the teachers and their classmates noticed how silent they were, and Tsuna's resting position, they didn't bother them. Small mercies, as they call it, knowing well how affected the brunet is with their situation.
Tsuna put on his long sleeved sweatshirt after his t-shirt, before his hoodie then his jacket. He pulled on his hood and trapped his cold ears there. Taking the plushy version of his Dad from the bed, hugged it to his chest then moved to his swivel chair. He brought his feet up to the seat and draped the blanket over him. After deeming himself warm and comfortable, he clicked 'play' to his music player in the laptop and started to do his homework.
It's nearing the end of term so they're doing some intense works. That and he needs to do some more advance studying since he'll be in trouble for a month and a half. Just thinking about it makes his head ache. He's regretting his decisions now, but nah. It's too late to go back.
Looking down to his plushy, Tsuna smiled a little as he remembered the last three days he spent with his Dad after Shouta discovered that he has a 'son' in Tsuna. It was unintentional, but he just wants to get spoiled with Shouta's attention. Having him beside him and all for himself, it's like having a solo day with Reborn and just sitting side by side while doing his paperworks with the hitman sleeping behind him. Too bad he can't sleep beside his Dad.
Generally speaking, Shouta Aizawa, at the age of sixteen, is cute. Adorably cute. With his neck length black seaweed-like hair (Sorry, Dad), all time passive expression, and boyish voice, he'll pass on as an UA idol. However, Tsuna's parent side just wanna cover the teen in a blanket and tuck him away for the world to never see. He's just so jaded and alone that when others can't read him, he just gives up. It makes Tsuna so vigilant that's why he intervenes when others can't get him. He rarely asks for help too, so when the brunet observed that the noiret is confused on something, he'll voluntarily ask the other what's wrong and patiently coax it out of him.
When his intuition (fueled by Hyper Dying Will mode without flames) patted him for the door. He lowered the volume and listened. There are series of knocks on his door. He gave permission for the door to open while lowering the volume to an acceptable range. His eyes widened when he saw his Dad opening the door, looking curious. Black eyes met his, and he smiled.
"You look bundled up." Shouta murmured while closing the door with his foot since his hands are carrying a tray. "Cold?"
"Uhn." He firmed before straining his neck a little to look over to the tray. "What's that?"
"Katsudon for both of us. Bakugou cooked. Since I'm in, he asked me if I can give you this so you don't have to go down and leave your...nest." The teen explained.
He chuckled and reached for his phone. "I'll send him a thanks."
"Do you want to eat there?" The other questioned.
"I can go down. The carpet isn't that cold." He replied as he clicked 'send'. "Shou- Wah!"
"You're too cozy." His Dad huffed while dragging his chair closer to the bed before settling by the carpet. "No need to remove yourself from there. Here."
He received the steaming Katsudon with a smile. "What's up, Shouta?"
"Hm?" The other asked as he made himself comfortable.
Tsuna stared at the de-aged teen in front of him before balancing his bowl on his lap, put his hands together with the other and said, "Itadakimasu."
They silently dug in to their own food, occasionally humming with the song playing.
"Did you ever thought of leaving me?" He looked down to Shouta who is gazing at him with curiosity. "Something like when I'm too unbearable for you to handle?"
Tsuna leaned back to his chair and tried hard to think. "I don't remember having that kind of thought."
"Really?"
He nodded. "When things happened when I was four, I was ready to be dumped in an orphanage or get adopted by a couple temporarily. My parents were still alive that time, just in coma. I thought I have to fend for myself because I'm alone that time. So when you said you're taking me under your wing, I was relieved and unbelieving? I mean we just met, talked a little about things, I even took your sweatshirt since you noticed how cold I was. You could've just left me in the police station and let Uncle Naomasa take care of my papers, but you didn't. And I was thankful.
"So I promised to myself that if you don't need me anymore, and you want me out of your life, I'll go. I'll say my gratitude, I'll apologize for the troubles I caused and say my farewell. If we ever meet outside, I'll be polite, regard you as a hero and go on without saying anything about the past." He looked down to his bowl as he spilled his thoughts. "Whenever we argue and fight over things, I'll be very nervous and wait for you to tell me to get out of your apartment. You're not one to get angry, Shouta. For all the years I've been with you, I only saw you get angry in less than the number of my ten fingers when I try to recall. So when you're so mad and storms in your room, I'll wait by the living room and wish you won't tell me to leave. I'll really pray because I don't want to leave. You're that important."
"But I couldn't even save a cat..."
Tsuna chuckled as he looked up to catch those black eyes. "I'd been persuading you to adopt one since the day I discovered how fond you are of them. I'm not allergic to fur, nor have any troubles taking care of them for you. One moment, you'll say yes. When you're about to go out to get one, you'll just stare at me and back down." He blinked as he remembered something. "Now that I think about it, you'll announce that you don't want to do it, then you'll pick me up as I question why not, and you'll just distract me by watching news with me." He frowned, not seeing how those black eyes widened and the flush forming. "When I share it to Uncle Hizashi and Uncle Naomasa, they'll just laugh at me and says I'm too adorable. Even my intuition laughs at me."
'Maybe because I don't want you to feel lonely?' Shouta thought to himself while watching the teen in front of him do some silly thinking faces. 'No wonder it's Little Tsu. Since his hair looks like a mane, maybe the older me sees Tsuna as a human cat- A lion even. He's a lot cuter when he was a kid.'
"What's wrong with you and your adult version?" Tsuna pouted which the other shrugged at.
"Eat. Do you have water in here?" Shouta asked while putting his bowl on the tray.
"Ref." He answer before taking a mouthful. He chewed and swallowed then continued talking. "I want mine that's under my bed. It's not cooled."
"Okay."
Tsuna scrunched his nose. "You're spoiling me too much."
Surprised Shouta blinked at him. "I am?"
The brunet nodded. "You took care of me for three days. You also asked me to stay beside you whenever I'm cold. You hold my hand and keep on putting your coat on me! Also, you keep on checking on me."
"Then what's wrong with that?" His de-aged Dad asked while taking away the empty bowl from him and replacing it with his bottled water. "I'm just trying to be your Dad."
"That's the thing!" He whined. "I don't want to prefer you over Dad. You're the same person but you're more caring in a silent way. And I can keep you all for myself! And- And I can spend my time with you till the end of the day even though you're in class. I'll miss this kind of Shouta!"
"You're being a baby." Shouta sighed as Tsuna took gulps of water. "Too big to be a baby."
He laughed. "I am your baby." Then he yawned. "Why are you here again, though?"
"Since I'm returning to normal tomorrow, I thought that I should spend my time with you."
Tsuna felt his heart warmed up. "Really? Then what do you want to do?"
The noiret shrugged. "What do you want to do?"
He grinned widely.
In seconds, Shouta found himself being snuggled to death. He can't help laughing at how quick the brunet fell asleep while draped on him. All Tsuna had to say was 'sleep beside me', went out of his cozy nest, pulled him to the bed, arranged his blankets, and hugged him to death with his head on Shouta's chest. And it didn't take Tsuna a minute to fall asleep, saying 'Dad' one last time.
For one, Shouta thought he'll feel uncomfortable. However, he feels... Warm. Comfortable and warm. His mundane life every night got splashed with colors. He won't deny that he liked how he spent his last three days with Tsuna. He's not fussy, nor super attentive. Tsuna had it balance. This is the first time the brunet whined and acted like a child who wanted to get spoiled. He didn't even miss how the teen clutched this small version of him that he still has in his hand while draped on him. He wonders if the older him get spoiled with this adorable picture.
Man. He's so blessed to have a friend, a family and a son in Tsuna.
Shifting a little, Shouta hugged Tsuna back and used his capture weapon to shield their eyes from the beam of the light. No matter, it's not really a problem.
"Aizawa-sensei!" The class exclaimed as Eraserhead stumbled inside the classroom.
"Thanks God you're back to normal!" Hagakure exclaimed.
"Hn." The teacher sighed.
"Where's Tsuna though?" Sero questioned, making all of them look at the vacant seat.
"Here." A drawl was heard as Tsuna came in while stretching his arms. "Morning, Aizawa-sensei."
"Sit already, Sawada." Their adviser waved off while scanning his notes.
"Yes, Sir." Tsuna mumbled while rubbing his eyes with his fist.
"Did something happen?" Yaoyorozu queried to the brunet who sat on his seat. "You look really tired."
Tsuna gave a big grin. "We kinda slept early and woke up late. So we're tired from oversleeping." Then he yawned. "Best sleep of the week though."
Shouto and Yaoyorozu smiled at the brunet's no-care attitude. They knew how affected Tsuna was during the whole week. They couldn't approach the brunet because they don't know how to console him, given the fact that the one he's worried for is right in front of him. Good thing the de-aged version of their teacher was able to acknowledge that Tsuna is his son. Although there's a little reluctance, they saw how Aizawa-san tried his best to make it up for the brunet. He asked around (rather discreetly since everyone likes to talk about the brunet in general) of what Tsuna likes and what his usual problems. In a way, they were able to cheer the two up.
"Sawada." Aizawa called out as he comes near them.
"Yes, Sensei?" The brunet asked, unconsciously rubbing his arms.
"Here." Then a black jacket was draped around Tsuna's shoulders. "Keep warm."
A bright grin made some of them croon quietly. "Thanks, Sensei."
"Hn."
(Tsuna cried when he noticed that his Dad was back to normal after waking up in the middle of the night. He was so worried and he missed his Dad. He missed spending his time with Shouta and Reborn, and reading bed time stories to Eri, that was robbed off from him for a week.)
(Shouta could only console and accept the midnight tantrum. It was his fault after all. If he was careful, Tsuna won't get worried for him.)
(Katsuki, who woke up after hearing Tsuna's sobs, sighed in relief. The blond has been looking out to the brunet who has been passive about everything since the start of the week.)
