andreas24olsen: Don't you insult Mako. He won't hesitate to harpoon your mouth shut. Just like that time his Abridged counterpart harpooned that killer shark, which by the way turned out to be a harmless mermaid. Now Ariel will never meet Prince Eric.

dragonborn39: It can be a good match-up. For a minor character like Mako Tsunami, all you need to do is give them better cards, even cards they've never used in the anime or manga to up their game. That includes building an Extra Deck with monsters that didn't exist in their respective era. Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, and even Link monsters. And that's exactly what I did for Mako in this epic chapter.

And as for the being high part, my friend, yes I was. I was stuck on the roof the other day while screaming for help. HAHAHAHAHA! But seriously, no. Me smoking's a rare thing. I know how to smoke, I just don't do it.

Merinus: Thank you very much. I've especially been waiting for them to react to Yami cursing. And now, I can't wait for them to do it again during episode 82. And thanks again for complimenting my duel chapters. They are hard to write, but it's all worth it.

And as for the Smooze, I've already thought about how they'll react to it. And it's gonna be quite a trippy ride.

In Pinkie Pie's room, the girls were sound asleep. They were so asleep, they couldn't hear each other's snoring. Applejack, on the other hand, wasn't snoring. She just slept on her side with a smile on her face.

Applejack: Hmhmhmhm!

Inside Applejack's dream, she and Mako Tsunami were alone together on a beach. Applejack was wearing her swimsuit from "Forgotten Friendship" while Mako wore nothing but shorts like from Duelist Kingdom. They were both standing in the ocean while splashing the water on each other and laughing.

Mako: Here comes the big wave.

Applejack closed her eyes and shielded herself as Mako splashed a big amount of water on her. Applejack chuckled after the splash and opened her eyes.

Applejack: You're gonna get it now, Mako! Huh?

Mako wasn't there anymore. Applejack looked around, but Mako was nowhere in sight.

Applejack: Uh, Mako? Mako!

She scratched her cheek.

Applejack: Now where in the hay did that freaky fish guy run off to?

Mako jumped out of the water behind Applejack and grabbed her with his muscular arms, much to Applejack's surprise.

Mako: Who are you calling a freaky fish guy, freaky farm girl?

Applejack: Heeeey!

Nonetheless, the two shared a laugh together. Moments later, the two laid next to each other on the beach while they stared up at the clouds.

Mako: This is quite a fantastic day! I'm glad I'm spending it with the girl of my dreams.

Applejack looked away and blushed.

Applejack: Ahaw shucks, Mako, your makin' me blush.

Mako: I really mean it, Applejack. I think you're the most incredible girl I've ever met. And I'm truly grateful to be here with you.

Applejack gave a warm smile.

Applejack: I feel the same way about you, Mako.

The two stared into each other's eyes with in-love faces. They then looked surprised when they started hearing fireworks.

Mako: Huh?

Applejack sat up.

Applejack: Hey, Mako, do you hear fireworks?

Mako stood up on his feet.

Mako: Yes, I do. Hm.

Mako noticed fireworks shooting out of a stadium from across the ocean.

Mako: It looks like they're coming from that Duel Stadium! Let's go check it out.

After both putting on sandals and Mako putting on his blue vest from Battle City, the two hopped onto a speed boat and drove off. After making it to the stadium and entering the building, Applejack and Mako ran up some stairs. When they reached the top, they saw that the stadium was incredibly crowded. Mako and Applejack looked around the stadium as the crowd cheered.

Mako: Wow! I've been to huge Duel Stadiums before, but not this huge.

Applejack: You said it. There's more people here than at my Apple Family's reunion.

AJ looked down and pointed at what she was looking at.

Applejack: Hey, look down there.

Mako looked down and saw a turbo duel between Hunter Pace and Jack Atlas.

Applejack: Now what in tarnation are they doin'?

Mako: It's looks like they're Turbo Dueling?

Applejack: Turbo Dueling?

Mako: Yep. It's when you play Duel Monsters while riding a special motorcycle known as a Duel Runner.

Applejack: That is just downright silly.

AJ folded her arms.

Applejack: Who in their right mind invented somethin' so ridiculous as Card Games on Motorcycles?

Mako: In any case, it looks like this duel is about to reach its climax.

The two duelists made a turn on the track.

Jack: Here I go.

Jack drew his card.

Applejack: Who's that confident fella down there?

Mako: His name's Jack Atlas! He's the most incredible Turbo Duelist on the fast track. He's always one step ahead of his opponents and even manage to counter their counters. That's what makes him a champion. He's been nicknamed the Master of Faster.

Applejack: The Master of Faster, huh?

AJ looked down at the duel.

Applejack: Hmm. He sounds like someone Rainbow Dash could be a fan of.

Jack: Hot Red Dragon Archfiend! End this duel with a direct attack.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend launched its attack on Hunter Pace.

Hunter Pace: DAGNABBIT!

Hunter Pace grunted as Hot Red Dragon Archfiend's attack landed.

Hunter Pace's Life Points: 200 - 0

Jack Wins.

The crowd cheered for Jack while Applejack and Mako looked surprised.

Mako: Awesome! Jack Atlas is an even better duelist than I give him credit for.

Applejack: Heh. He may be great and all that, but I bet you can beat him.

Mako: What? Me against Jack Atlas?

Applejack: Why not? If anyone can beat Jack, I'm sure it'll be you.

AJ shyly looked away.

Applejack: Plus, I... I've kinda been itchin' to see you duel.

Mako gave a confident smile.

Mako: Okay, Applejack. For you, I'll do it.

Applejack smiled and nodded. After stopping his ride, Jack stepped off his Runner, took off his helmet, and grabbed a microphone.

Jack: Who's the Master of Faster? Who's the only Turbo Duelist good enough to rules the duels?

The crowd chanted Jack's name.

Jack: That's right! It's me!

The crowd went from chanting to cheering.

Jack: Listen up. Since everyone here enjoys watching Jack Atlas, then Jack Atlas is willing to challenge anybody anytime anywhere. In fact, I'm in the mood for a duel right here and now. So if anybody in this arena thinks they have what it takes to beat the Master of Faster, then step right up and challenge me.

The crowd started chatting with one another.

Crowd Member 1: Why don't you duel him?

Crowd Member 2: Don't look at me. I'm not dueling Jack. What about you?

Crowd Member 1: I, uh... left my deck at home. Yeah, that's it.

Mako: JACK ATLAS!

The crowd turned to the source.

Jack: Huh?

Jack spotted Mako with Applejack standing next to him.

Mako: I CHALLENGE!

Jack squinted his eyes.

Jack: So you want to be my next opponent?

Mako: That's right.

Jack: Wait a second. I recognize you.

Mako stared down Jack.

Jack: You're that freaky fish guy!

After Mako looked flustered, the crowd started laughing at him. Applejack even covered her mouth to hide her laughter. Mako growled while his face turned pink.

Mako: I AM NOT A FREAKY FISH GUY!

Mako pointed to himself with his thumb.

Mako: I am Mako Tsunami, the top-ranked ocean duelist. And as the top ocean duelist, I say accept my challenge.

Jack: You seriously think you can take me on? Well, no offense, Mako, but you don't seem like a real challenge to me. Your dueling record doesn't even impress me.

Jack turned his back on Mako.

Jack: Maybe you should go home and tend to your little fishy friends.

Mako: So you don't think I'm good enough to take you because of my duel record? I guess that's one way of looking at it. But looking at it the other way, it seems as though you're "afraid" to duel me.

As Jack turned back around and glared up at Mako, the crowd started muttering to one another.

Crowd Member 3: Is he for real?

Crowd Member 4: That guy's got some nerve speaking to Jack like that.

Crowd Member 5: Well, Jack did say he'd take on anyone, but it looks like he's running away.

Jack looked nervous as he looked around the arena. He started thinking he'll lose some fans for backing down.

Mako: So what do you say, Jack? Care to reconsider your decision and duel me? Or back down like a coward?

Applejack: That's tellin' him, Mako!

Jack smirked.

Jack: Hmph! Alright, Mako Tsunami, I accept your challenge.

Jack pointed up at Mako.

Jack: Let's see if you have the speed it takes to outrun the Master of Faster.

Mako smiled.

Mako: That's just what I wanted to hear.

The crowd cheered once again.

Crowd Member 6: It looks like they're going to duel after all!

Crowd Member 7: Yeah, but... Can Mako even put up a decent duel? He's not one for using special summoning methods.

Crowd Member 8: Even if he does put up a fight, Jack's gonna win this duel big time!

Moments later, Jack was at the starting line on the duel track. Btw, the duel track was build over the ocean. Back inside the arena, Applejack took a front row seat as she and the rest of the crowd began to watch the duel on the stadium monitors.

Jack: (Thought) Where is he? I accepted his challenge, and he's not even going to show up?

Mako: Hi, Jack!

Jack: Huh?

Jack looked around for Mako.

Mako: Down here.

Jack looked down below the track and saw Mako smiling, waving, and standing on his Dueling speed boat.

Jack: Huuuh!?

Back at the arena, the crowd was stunned to see Mako in a boat instead of on the track.

Crowd Member 9: What the heck is that freaky fish guy doing?

Applejack was surprised herself.

Jack: Mako!? What the deuce are you doing down there?

Mako: Well, you see, I've always wanted to compete in a Turbo Duel while riding a boat. And while dueling an opponent riding a Duel Runner, of course. So think of this as an epic battle between land and sea.

Crowd Member 10: A battle between land and sea?

Crowd Member 11: That's insane!

Jack looked away with his eyes closed.

Jack: Alright, fine. It makes no difference to me whether you're up here or down there.

Jack pointed down at Mako.

Jack: Because in the end, you're the one who is going to lose.

Mako: Heh. We shall see, Mr. Atlas.

Jack: Alright, my fans. We're all set to duel. Begin the countdown. Now.

Crowd: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3...

Jack placed his helmet's visor down.

Crowd: 2...

Mako turned on the dueling screen, which was equipped onto his speed boat.

Computer Voice: Duel Mode Engaged. Autopilot Standing By.

Crowd: 1...

Applejack stared at the monitor with a smile.

Crowd: GO!

And with that, Jack sped off down the track while Mako sped off down the ocean.

Mako and Jack: Duel!

Mako VS Jack

Mako's Life Points: 8000

Jack's Life Points: 8000

Applejack: You've got this, Mako. Show everyone here what you're made of.

(Turn 1)

English Dub background music from Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's will be playing throughout the entire duel.

Jack: It's time to kick this duel into overdrive.

He placed his fingers over his deck.

Jack: I'm going first.

Jack drew his card.

Jack: And I'll start by summoning Archfiend Interceptor in attack mode.

Archfiend Interceptor (Fiend-type/Dark/Level 4/ATK: 1400/DEF: 1600)

Jack: I'll place one card face-down and then end my turn.

Status: Hand-04, Life Points-8000, Monsters-1, Face-ups-0, Face-downs-1, Graveyard-00, Deck-54, Banish-00

(Turn 2)

Mako: Then it's my turn. I draw.

Mako looked at his drawn card.

Mako: Alright, Jack. It's about time I'd show you how much I've improved as a duelist.

Jack: If you've really stepped up your game, Mako, then by all means go ahead and prove it.

Mako: Oh, I will. And I'll begin by activating the Field Spell, Magellanica, the Deep Sea City!

The water was vibrating as a huge city was rising up from the ocean. The audience looked in awe while Applejack performed an impressed-type of whistle.

Jack: Am I supposed to be scared of an underwater city?

Mako: Not yet. For now, just enjoy the scenery. Looks beautiful, doesn't it? But it so happens to work in my favor, Jack. Because by activating this card...

Mako held up the monster, Atlantean Dragoons.

Mako: I can take any Water monster from my deck, and place it on top.

After shuffling his deck, Mako placed Atlantean Dragoons on top.

Mako: But it won't be staying there for long. Because with the Spell Card Pot of Greed, I can draw it out... Plus an extra one.

Mako drew his two cards.

Mako: I'll follow that up by activating my third Spell Card. Magic Reflector. It places a counter onto Magellanica.

A ball of yellow light that looked like the sun appeared in the sky. That was the counter.

Mako: So if my city were to be destroyed, the counter is destroyed instead.

Mako placed Magic Reflector in the graveyard.

Jack: Boooring! Are you gonna bust out some Monsters, or are you going to keep playing Spell Cards?

Mako: I've got a better idea, Atlas. How about I play certain cards that are both Spells and Monsters?

Jack: Cards that are both Spells and Monsters?

Jack widened his eyes.

Jack: You can't mean...

The crowd was chatting about the current situation.

Crowd Member 12: He's bluffing, right? He's just gotta be.

Crowd Member 13: Is he really gonna do what I think he's going to do?

Applejack just sat there and looked confused.

Applejack: What?

Mako: Here I go!

Mako held up two Pendulum cards.

Mako: I'm using my Scale 8 Dragonpit Magician and my Scale 1 Dragonpulse Magician in order to set the Pendulum Scale. I'll be taking control of this duel right here and right now, Jack!

He placed the two monsters in his leftmost and rightmost Spell and Trap Card Zones. Afterwards, the word "Pendulum" appeared in his Main Monster Zones in rainbow colors. The two magicians appeared in the air in columns of light. Beneath Dragonpulse Magician was the number 1 and beneath Dragonpit Magician was the number 8.

Mako: I can now summon monsters from levels 2 through 7 all at the same time!

The crowd gasped in shock.

Crowd Member 13: I knew it! He really is going to do it!

Applejack stared in awe.

Mako: I Pendulum Summon!

Mako raised his right arm up.

Mako: Now rise to the surface, my mighty denizens of the deep!

A portal opened in-between the two magicians and two beams of colored light came shooting out.

Mako: Come forth, Atlantean Dragoons.

Atlantean Dragoons (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 4/ATK: 1800/DEF: 0)

Mako: And Atlantean Pikeman.

Atlantean Pikeman (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 2/ATK: 1400/DEF: 0)

Jack was silent while the audience was in shock.

Crowd Member 14: Wow. I guess when he said he stepped up his game, he wasn't kidding.

Crowd Member 15: Do you think... Jack can still win?

Applejack was still in awe.

Applejack: Whoa!

Mako and Jack continued to ride along.

Mako: Oh Jaaaaack! I've got another surprise for yooouu!

Jack grunted.

Mako: I'm not done summoning monsters. For my next move, I think I'll play Magellanica's second effect. It gives one of my Water monsters one or two stars for the remainder of the turn. So Atlantean Pikeman evolves from a level 2 monster to a level 4 monster.

Atlantean Pikeman (Level 2 - 3 - 4)

Jack widened his eyes.

Jack: No way! So now, you have two monsters with the same level?

Mako: That's right, Jack. And with both my monsters now at level 4, I can use them in order to build...

Mako raised his right arm up once again.

Mako: The Overlay Network!

The two monsters then turned into blue lights and shot into the air and swirled around each other. A red spiral portal appeared and then the lights enter inside the portal. The portal then explodes with light.

Mako: I Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Bahamut Shark!

Bahamut Shark appeared with two blue orbs swirling around it.

Bahamut Shark (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Rank 4/ATK: 2600/DEF: 2100)

The crowd was chatting about Mako Pendulum Summoning and now Xyz Summoning.

Applejack: Well, I'll be...

Mako: I'm activating Bahamut Shark's special ability.

He detached Atlantean Dragoons from Bahamut Shark.

Mako: By using one overlay unit, I can summon a Water Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck... as long as its Rank is three or below. Rise, Toadally Awesome!

Toadally Awesome (Aqua-type/Water/Rank 2/ATK: 2200/DEF: 0)

Jack: Tch. I never would've guessed you had that annoying card.

Mako: Sounds like you're well aware of Toadally Awesome's special abilities. And speaking of which, Atlantean Dragoons's ability activates. When it goes to the graveyard by the special ability of a Water monster, I'm allowed to take any other Sea Serpent-type monster from my deck, and place it into my hand.

Mako held up the card.

Mako: But why keep it in my hand when I can summon it? Atlantean Attack Squad, arise!

Atlantean Attack Squad (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 3/ATK: 1400/DEF: 0)

Mako: And thanks to my Squad's ability, they receive an 800 attack point power-up as long as I have another Fish, Sea Serpent, or Aqua-Type monster out. And look at that! Toadally Awesome's an Aqua monster while Bahamut Shark is a Sea Serpent monster. So my Atlantean Attack Squad gains 800 attack points.

Atlantean Attack Squad (ATK: 1400 - 2200)

Mako: Now it's time for our monsters to do battle. Toadally Awesome, attack Archfiend Interceptor!

The big frog stuck its tongue out and launched it towards Jack's monster.

Jack: Archfiend Interceptor's special ability automatically activates. For as long as it's in attack mode, when you declare an attack, you receive 500 points of direct damage.

Archfiend Interceptor prepared a ball of light in its hands.

Jack: Of course, you can always use your little froggy friend's ability to negate my monster's ability and steal it for yourself. What's it going to be, Mako?

Mako: (Thought) He's right. I could use Toadally Awesome's ability to stop Archfiend Interceptor, but then there's that face-down card on his field. It could be a powerful Trap Card like Mirror Force, and Jack'll be free to use it after I sacrifice my monster! Should I activate Toadally Awesome's ability, or should I save it for later? Hmmm.

The crowd chatted about Mako's choice.

Mako: (Thought) Now that I think about it, 500 points of damage isn't all that big!

He looked up at Jack.

Mako: Alright, Atlas. Now I will...

Jack looked down at Mako.

Mako: Not play my Toad's ability. I'll save my monster for when you play something more powerful.

Jack: Hmph! A wise move, Mako, but you still take damage.

Archfiend Interceptor fired its attack toward Mako, who grunted after being hit.

Mako's Life Points: 8000 - 7500

Mako: I may have taken a hit...

Toadally Awesome wrapped it tongue around Archfiend Interceptor.

Mako: ...but you're about to take an even bigger hit.

The toad lifted Archfiend Interceptor into the air, and threw it at Jack. Archfiend Interceptor exploded after hitting Jack's Runner.

Jack: AAAUGH!

Jack's Life Points: 8000 - 7200

Mako: But wait, Jack. I'm not finished with your life points just yet.

Mako moved his arm forward.

Mako: Atlantean Attack Squad, attack Jack's life points directly.

The members of the Squad flew towards Jack and swiped their blades.

Jack: AAAAUUUUGHH!

Jack's Life Points: 7200 - 5000

Crowd Member 16: Oh no. Jack's losing life points fast.

Crowd Member 17: It's okay. He's still in this.

Crowd Member 18: Come on.

Mako: Luckily for you, Jack, my Bahamut Shark can't attack since I've used its ability this turn. So I'll just place one card face-down before ending my turn.

Status: Hand-00, Life Points-7500, Monsters-3, Face-ups-3, Face-downs-1, Graveyard-03, Deck-51, Banish-00

Applejack: Hoo-Wee! That was a mighty fine first turn! Keep it up, Mako!

Jack made a left turn on the track.

Jack: I must say, I'm impressed. Not only you were able to get rid of almost half my life points, but you've managed to Pendulum Summon and Xyz Summon on your very first turn. Not bad.

Jack returned his eyes on the road.

Jack: But no matter how many summoning methods you've mastered, I only need one to defeat you!

(Turn 3)

Jack: It's my draw. And first, since you're the only one with monsters on his field, I can special summon the monster known as Vice Dragon!

Vice Dragon (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 5/ATK: 2000/DEF: 2400)

Jack: And whenever Vice Dragon is summoned like this, its attack and defense points are cut in half.

Vice Dragon (ATK: 2000 - 1000/DEF: 2400 - 1200)

Jack: Next, I'll follow that up by summoning the Flare Resonator Tuner Monster.

Flare Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Fire/Level 3/ATK: 300/DEF: 1300)

Jack: Now Flare Resonator tunes Vice Dragon!

Both monsters leaped into the air. Flare Resonator transformed into three green rings. Meanwhile, Vice Dragon moved through the three rings before turning into five stars.

Jack: Now from the ancient chasms of a lost world, I awaken a great and terrible power!

5 + 3 = 8

A beam of white light enveloped the stars and passed through the rings.

Jack: I Synchro Summon! Now rise, Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend!

Jack's dragon started flying behind him.

Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 8/ATK: 3000/DEF: 2500)

The crowd started cheering for Jack.

Crowd Member 19: Aw yeeeaah!

Crowd Member 20: That's one of his best monsters!

Crowd Member 21: Jack's gonna fry Mako's monsters big time!

Applejack stared at Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend.

Applejack: Yeet! I sure don't wanna run into that thing!

Jack: Hmph! When a Synchro Monster uses Flare Resonator as Synchro material, it gains 300 extra attack points.

Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend (ATK: 3000 - 3300)

Mako: 3300 attack points?! That's more powerful than all of my monsters!

Jack: That's right, Tsunami!

Jack started driving backwards.

Jack: And he'll use that power on your little friend.

Scarlight prepared its attack.

Jack: Molten Crimson Flare!

Scarlight shot out flames from its mouth and fired it towards Toadally Awesome!

Mako: I'm activating my Trap Card! Tornado Wall!

As soon as Mako's Trap was activated, giant pillars of water surrounded Mako.

Jack: What's this?

The crowd was surprised and confused.

Mako: This is the power of the ocean protecting me from your assault. You see, as long as Umi is on the field, my Trap Card creates a typhoon forming giant pillars of water that prevents me from taking battle damage.

Jack: Well, too bad for you, because that card isn't even on the field.

Jack then widened his eyes.

Jack: Unless...

Mako: Haha. Looks like you've figured it out, Jack. Magellanica, the Deep Sea City is treated as Umi for as long as this Spell is in play. Which means my Tornado Wall Trap protects me from all battle damage.

Jack grunted.

Jack: You may protect your life points from taking a big hit, but you can't save your monster.

Toadally Awesome perished by the attack. At this point, Jack started driving forward again.

Mako: Well, since you're aware of Toadally Awesome's abilities, then you should know that when it goes to the graveyard, I can take any Water monster from my graveyard and add it to my hand. Or in this case, the Extra Deck, because I'm returning Toadally Awesome to my Extra Deck.

Mako took his frog friend out of his graveyard.

Mako: And with Bahamut Shark's remaining overlay unit, I can summon my froggy friend back to the field on my next turn.

Jack: I beg to differ. Because Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend's heating things up. It allows me to destroy all other special summoned Effect Monsters on the field whose attack power is less than or equal to my Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend's attack points. Prepare to feel the heat.

The dragon's right hand became engulfed in fire.

Jack: Ruthless Inferno!

Scarlight fired its flames towards Bahamut Shark. Mako shielded himself while his Xyz Monster was destroyed in the flames.

Mako: No. My Bahamut Shark!

Scarlight's flames were still going.

Jack: My dragon's not done heating things up. When I said for you to feel the heat, I meant that quite literally.

Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend's flames made a quick U-turn.

Jack: Because for every monster perished by its flames, you take 500 points of direct damage.

Mako looked behind him. But before he could react, the flames struck him in the back.

Mako: AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

Applejack and the audience winced at the sight of Mako getting hit by the flames.

Applejack and the Crowd: Ooohhhhh!

Crowd Member 22: That's gonna leave a mark.

After the flames disappeared, Mako grunted from the pain.

Mako's Life Points: 7500 - 7000

Jack made another turn on the track.

Jack: I'll place one more card face-down and then end my turn. And with both your Xyz Monsters now gone, Atlantean Attack Squad loses its power-up.

Atlantean Attack Squad (ATK: 2200 - 1400)

Status: Hand-02, Life Points-5000, Monsters-1, Face-ups-0, Face-downs-2, Graveyard-03, Deck-53, Banish-00

Mako was catching his breath.

Mako: (Thought) Jack figured a way around my Tornado Wall! He really is as good as his reputation.

(Turn 4)

Mako finished catching his breath.

Mako: Okay... it's my... turn.

During a slow motion effect, Mako drew his card and looked at it.

Mako: Alright! This is just what I needed!

Jack: Will you knock off the slow motion effects and just duel?

Mako: Alright, fine. I summon the Deep Sea Diva Tuner Monster to the field.

Mako's new monster appeared from underwater.

Deep Sea Diva (Sea Serpent-type/Tuner/Water/Level 2/ATK: 200/DEF: 400)

Jack and Applejack: A Tuner Monster?!

The crowd gasped in shock.

Mako: That's right. I have a Tuner Monster as well, which means I can Synchro Summon just like you did. But before I do, Atlantean Attack Squad once again receives 800 attack points.

Atlantean Attack Squad (ATK: 1400 - 2200)

Mako: Anyway, I activate my Tuner Monster's ability! By summoning her, she let's me summon a Sea Serpent monster from my deck whose level is 3 or below. I summon Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince in defense mode.

Another monster came out of the water.

Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 1/ATK: 800/DEF: 0)

Mako: And next, I play Neptabyss's ability.

Mako showed the card Atlantean Heavy Infantry.

Mako: By sending an Atlantean card from my deck to the graveyard...

Mako showed a second copy of Atlantean Dragoons.

Mako: I can add another Atlantean card from my deck to my hand.

He shuffled his deck afterwards.

Mako: And now, before I Synchro Summon, Altantean Heavy Infantry's special ability activates.

The monster appeared in front of Mako.

Mako: When this creature goes to the great beyond by the special ability of a Water monster, it gives me the unique opportunity to destroy one of your face-up cards. Bid farewell to your Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend.

Altantean Heavy Infantry launched itself towards Jack's dragon. Jack held up a card in his hand.

Jack: I send Red Gardna to the graveyard to counter that.

Red Gardna appeared in front of Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend.

Jack: Its special ability protects all my monsters from being destroyed by special effects this turn.

Red Gardna took the hit for Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend. Applejack clenched her left fist and grunted.

Applejack: So close.

Mako: Nice move, Jack. If I can't use effects, then I'll just have to destroy your dragon in battle. Alright, Level 2 Deep Dea Diva, tune with Level 3 Atlantean Attack Squad and Level 1 Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince.

All three monsters jumped into the air. After Deep Sea Diva turned into two green rings, the Attack Squad and Neptabyss entered the rings. Atlantean Attack Squad turned into three stars while Neptabyss turned into one star. The stars then lined up within the rings.

3 + 1 + 2 = 6

A beam of white light enveloped the stars and passed through the rings.

Mako: I Synchro Summon, White Aura Dolphin!

Mako's new monster jumped high out of the water while making dolphin noises.

White Aura Dolphin (Fish-type/Water/Level 6/ATK: 2400/DEF: 1000)

The dolphin landed back into the water.

Jack: Is that it? Do you really think you can beat my dragon with a dolphin?

Mako: I know I can, Jack, and I will. But before we get to that, I'm activating Magellanica's third ability.

Jack: That Field Spell has another effect?

Mako: That's correct. By summoning a Water-attribute Synchro Monster, I'm allowed to look at the cards in your hand and banish one card from it.

Jack widened his eyes.

Jack: Say what?

The audience was in awe.

Mako: Don't worry, you heard me correctly. Now reveal to me the only card in your hand.

Jack showed Mirror Resonator before banishing it.

Mako: Another Tuner Monster. I should've guessed.

Jack: It matters not. Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend's still more powerful than that mammal of a monster.

Mako: Not once I play my Dolphin's ability. It cuts your dragon's power down to half of its original total. So since Scarlight's original attack power is 3000, well... you do the math.

White Aura Dolphin jumped out of the water and performed a sound attack towards Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend, causing Scarlight to cover its ears.

Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend (ATK: 3300 - 1500)

Jack: My Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend! It's lost most of its power!

Mako: Meaning your dragon is doomed! But first things first.

Mako raised his arm up.

Mako: I Pendulum Summon for a second time.

The Pendulum portal opened up between the two Pendulum Monsters, and one colored beam of light came shooting out.

Mako: Atlantean Dragoons, welcome to the field.

Atlantean Dragoons (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 4/ATK: 1800/DEF: 0)

Mako: Now White Aura Dolphin, attack Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend! Charge!

The dolphin swam towards Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend and shot water from its blowhole. Scarlight was destroyed after getting hit.

Jack: Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend! NOOOOO!

Jack's Life Points: 5000 - 4100

The crowd was worrying even more about Jack.

Applejack: Yes. Way to go, Mako! Keep it up!

Jack had his head down.

Jack: Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend. I'm sorry. I couldn't protect you.

Jack lifted his head up with fire in his eyes.

Jack: But I promise. Your sacrifice will not be in vain.

Mako: That sounds sweet, Jack, but this attack sure isn't. Atlantean Dragoons, direct attack!

The two lancers charged at Jack with their lances.

Crowd: Incoming!

One of Jack's face-downs activated.

Jack: I'm activating the Trap Card I placed face-down on my very first turn. Powerful Rebirth! This let's me call forth any monster from my graveyard whose level is 4 or less. I'm summoning Red Gardna to the field in defense mode.

Red Gardna (Fiend-type/Fire/Level 4/ATK: 0/DEF: 2000)

Jack: And with the power of this Trap Card, Red Gardna gains one level, along with 100 attack and defense points.

Red Gardna (Level 4 - 5/ATK: 0 - 100/DEF: 2000 - 2100)

Mako: So that's what you had face-down! I should've used Toadally Awesome's effect when I had the chance.

Jack: Even if you did, you still couldn't stop me from summoning Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend, now could you?

Mako growled.

Mako: Again, he's one step ahead.

Mako sighed.

Mako: I'll hold off my attack and end my turn. And because my turn is done, Magellanica's effect wears off. So you get your Mirror Resonator back.

Jack returned Mirror Resonator to his hand.

Jack: Why, thank you.

Status: Hand-00, Life Points-7000, Monsters-2, Face-ups-4, Face-downs-0, Graveyard-09, Deck-47, Banish-00

The crowd sounded relieved.

Applejack: Sorry, Mako. You'll get him next time.

(Turn 5)

Jack made another turn while Mako drove his boat under the track to get to the other side.

Jack: Here I go.

Jack drew from his deck.

Jack: I'm activating the face-down card, Resonant Destruction! Now, every time a "Resonator" monster goes to the graveyard for a Synchro Summon, this Spell allows me to destroy any card on your field.

Mako widened his eyes.

Mako: You can't!

Jack: Oh, yes I can, and I will! And to start, I'm summoning Mirror Resonator!

Mirror Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Light/Level 1/ATK: 0/DEF: 0)

Jack: Looks like you'll regret returning Mirror Resonator to my hand... because I'm tuning it with my Level 5 Red Gardna.

After jumping into the air, Mirror Resonator transformed into one green ring, and Red Gardna moved through the ring before turning into five stars.

Jack: The star of doom comes to judge all living things. My crimson dragon shines upon the infernal path!

5 + 1 = 6

A beam of white light enveloped the stars and passed through the ring.

Jack: I Synchro Summon, Red Rising Dragon!

Red Rising Dragon (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 6/ATK: 2100/DEF: 1600)

Jack: Now that that's accomplished, Resonant Destruction's effect activates. But first, Red Rising Dragon's special ability allows me to call forth any "Resonator" monster sleeping in my graveyard. So I summon... Flare Resonator.

Flare Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Fire/Level 3/ATK: 300/DEF: 1300)

Jack: Banish my cards, will you? Well, not anymore. Because Resonant Destruction's destroying that Field Spell.

Mirror Resonator's spirit appeared.

Jack: Fire!

Mirror Resonator was launched into the air.

Mako: I don't think so. I'm sacrificing Magic Reflector's counter to protect my Spell.

The counter took the hit from Mirror Resonator.

Jack: With that counter gone, you have nothing protecting it. So let's try this again, shall we? Flare Resonator, tune with Red Rising Dragon.

Flare Resonator turned into three green rings while Red Rising Dragon passed through the rings as six stars.

Jack: Archfiend unleashed from the darkness of the abyss! Let your rage explode!

6 + 3 = 9

A beam of white light enveloped the stars and passed through the rings.

Jack: I Synchro Summon, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss!

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 9/ATK: 3200/DEF: 2500)

The crowd was amazed by the dragon.

Crowd Member 23: What a move!

Crowd Member 24: Yeah, that dragon is even better than the last one.

Applejack stared at the new monster Mako has to face.

Applejack: Be careful, Sugarcube!

Jack: Time for an encore!

Flare Resonator's spirit appeared.

Jack: Destroy Magellanica, the Deep Sea City!

Flare Resonator was launched into the air.

Mako: What? NOOOOO!

Flare Resonator hit the sky, and then the entire field started shattering. The city was then sinking underwater.

Mako: MY CITY!

Jack: Is now gone.

The crowd started cheering for Jack while Applejack was getting worried for Mako.

Mako: My precious city... is no more!

Mako clenched his fist.

Mako: When my Spell leaves the field, Tornado Wall goes with it.

The pillars of water surrounding Mako disappeared.

Jack: Sounds like great news to me, especially since Flare Resonator raises my monster's strength.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss (ATK: 3200 - 3500)

Jack: And since Red Gardna wasn't destroyed, Powerful Rebirth stays on the field for no reason. But I'll make use of that with the Spell Card, Magic Planter. By getting rid of Powerful Rebirth, I can draw two new cards from my deck.

Powerful Rebirth was gone and Jack drew two new cards.

Jack: Next, I activate Pot of Desires.

Cards from Jack's deck magically floated in the air.

Jack: By removing the top ten cards from my deck entirely from play and placing them face-down, I can draw two new cards.

The crowd gasped in shock.

Mako: Hold on. You're getting rid of that many cards? Is that really worth it, Jack?

Jack: I don't know. Let's find out, shall we? I draw!

Jack looked at his new cards.

Jack: Excellent. Since I control a Synchro Monster, I'm able to summon Synkron Resonator from my hand.

Synkron Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Dark/Level 1/ATK: 100/DEF: 100)

Jack: And now, I'll have Synkron Resonator tune with Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss!

Synkron Resonator turned into one green ring while Jack's dragon turned into nine stars.

Jack: Let the peaks roar! Split the Mountains and come forth, along with the flames of the earth!

9 + 1 = 10

A beam of white light enveloped the stars and passed through the ring.

Jack: I Synchro Summon, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane!

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 10/ATK: 3500/DEF: 3000)

Applejack and the crowd were now speechless.

Mako: Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane?!

Jack: That's right. And because Synkron Resonator was sent to the graveyard, I can use its special ability to return a different "Resonator" monster to my hand. And I choose Mirror Resonator.

Synkron Resonator's spirit appeared.

Jack: And let's not forget about my Resonant Destruction card. I won't allow you to destroy my monsters. Which is why I'm destroying your Dragonpulse Magician.

Synkron Resonator was fired at Dragonpulse Magician, which was destroyed in the process.

Mako: Grr. Since Dragonpulse Magician is a Pendulum Monster, it goes to the Extra Deck.

Jack: It doesn't matter to me where it goes so long as it means you can't Pendulum Summon. Now then, because my Synchro Monster's level is 8 or higher, I'm allowed to summon this Tuner Monster. Come out, Creation Resonator.

Creation Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Wind/Level 3/ATK: 800/DEF: 600)

Jack: And with it on my field, I can activate Archfiend Bane's special ability. By sacrificing a monster on my field, I can replace that monster with any "Red Dragon Archfiend" monster from my graveyard.

Mako: Wait, you mean... any "Archfiend" monster?

Jack: That's correct. Now behold as I tribute Creation Resonator for Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss!

Abyss roared at it was summoned back to the field.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 9/ATK: 3200/DEF: 2500)

The two dragons were staring Mako down.

Mako: This cannot be happening!

The crowd was even more surprised.

Crowd Member 25: Two Dragon Archfiends?!

Crowd Member 26: At the same time!?

Crowd Member 27: This is insane!

Crowd Member 28: How is Mako gonna get past them?

Applejack looked even more worried for Mako.

Jack: Enough games. It's time I'd show you some real power! I'm activating the Equip Spell, Megamorph! Now, for as long as my life points are lower than yours, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane's attack points double.

With a fiery aura, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane roared as it gained attack points.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane (ATK: 3500 - 7000)

Mako: 7000 attack points?!

Jack: That's right. And my dragon's gonna make use of them. But first, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss is gonna destroy Atlantean Dragoons.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss prepared to attack.

Jack: Abyss Rage Buster!

Archfiend Abyss fired flames from its mouth and totally incinerated Mako's Dragoons.

Mako: No, my monster!

Mako's Life Points: 7000 - 5600

Jack: Since Archfiend Abyss dealt you battle damage, I can resurrect any Tuner Monster from my graveyard and place it into defensive mode. Now rise again, Synkron Resonator!

Synkron Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Dark/Level 1/ATK: 100/DEF: 100)

Jack: Now it's your turn. Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane, annihilate Mako's Dolphin now!

Archfiend Bane roared as it prepared its attack.

Jack: Great Summit Breaker!

Archfiend Bane fired flames from its mouth and completely destroyed White Aura Dolphin! The impact was so powerful, it knocked Mako off his boat and sent him flying through the air.

Mako: AAAAAAUUUUUUGGHHH!

Mako's Life Points: 5600 - 1000

Applejack: Oh no! MAKO!

The crowd gasped. Just when Mako was inches away from dropping into the ocean, White Aura Dolphin jumped out of the water and saved him. Mako was seen riding that dolphin while waving his arm with a smile.

Mako: HAHAAAA!

Jack: What!?

The crowd gasped again.

Crowd Member 29: Wait, that dolphin is back?

Crowd Member 30: I thought Jack destroyed that thing!

Applejack felt so relieved as she felt her heart.

Applejack: Phew! Thank goodness.

Mako stood on his feet and jumped down from White Aura Dolphin. He landed back onto his speed boat with a smirk.

Mako: Heh.

White Aura Dolphin landed back into the water and followed Mako.

White Aura Dolphin (Fish-type/Tuner/Water/Level 6/ATK: 2400/DEF: 1000)

Jack: But how? I destroyed that monster!

Mako: It was all thanks to its special ability.

Mako held up his first Atlantean Dragoons.

Mako: You see, everytime White Aura Dolphin is destroyed, I can immediately summon it back to the playing field by banishing a Water monster from my graveyard.

Now the crowd was cheering for Mako.

Crowd Member 31: So that's how that dolphin came back! Cool.

Crowd Member 32: For a freaky fish guy, he's amazing!

Applejack smiled with her arms crossed.

Mako: And whenever my Dolphin is summoned this way, it transforms into a Tuner Monster.

Jack: I see. So it makes it easier to Synchro Summon higher level monsters.

Mako: Very observant of you, Jack. Heh.

Jack: Well, I'm more than ready for any powerful Synchros you'll throw at me. I'm activating Archfiend Bane's special ability. Now because my dragon dealt you damage, I can summon one Tuner Monster from my deck and another Tuner Monster from my graveyard... as long as they both share the same level. Come out, Dark Resonator and Flare Resonator.

Jack's monsters were summoned in defense mode.

Dark Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Dark/Level 3/ATK: 1300/DEF: 300)

Flare Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Fire/Level 3/ATK: 300/DEF: 1300)

Mako: That's quite a defense you've got, Jack!

Jack: My defense is stronger than you think, Mako, because Dark Resonator can't be destroyed in battle once per turn.

Mako: Really? Hm. Good to know.

Jack: And now, because my life points are higher than yours, Megamorph cuts Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane's attack power down to half of its original total.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane (ATK: 7000 - 1750)

Jack: I end my turn. It's your move, Mako!

Status: Hand-01, Life Points-4100, Monsters-5, Face-ups-2, Face-downs-0, Graveyard-09, Deck-37, Banish-10

Crowd Member 33: What a duel!

Crowd Member 34: He's doing a great job holding his own against the Master of Faster.

Crowd Member 35: I sure hope this duel ends in a tie.

Applejack still looked impressed.

(Turn 6)

Mako: My draw! And first, I'll use my Dolphin's ability to shrink your monster's attack points.

White Aura Dolphin jumped out of the water and once again performed its sound attack. This time, on Archfiend Abyss.

Jack: Not this time. I'm using my dragon's special ability to negate your monster's effect.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss repelled the sound attack before White Aura Dolphin went back into the water.

Mako: I suspected something like that, which is why I've held on to this. I activate the Spell, Card of Sanctity. Now we're forced to draw from our decks until we're holding six cards.

Jack: Thanks for the free cards, Mako!

Mako drew six while Jack drew five.

Mako: Thanks to your Resonant Destruction, my Pendulum Scale is out of balance. So I'll fix that by playing another Dragonpulse Magician directly in the Pendulum Zone.

Dragonpulse Magician appeared as Jack grunted.

Mako: And with both cards now in play, I can activate Dragonpulse Magician's Pendulum ability.

He discarded another Dragonpit Magician to the graveyard.

Mako: By discarding another Pendulum Monster, Dragonpulse Magician can destroy one of your monsters. I'm choosing... your Synkron Resonator.

Jack: What?

The crowd was chatting about Mako's move.

Crowd Member 36: Wait, so he's not destroying one of Jack's dragons?

Crowd Member 37: What's he thinking?

Crowd Member 38: Yeah! What's Mako up to?

Applejack raised an eyebrow with her arms crossed.

Mako: Dragonpulse Magician, destroy Jack's monster now!

Dragonpulse Magician fired a magical beam and Jack's Tuner Monster and destroyed it.

Jack: With Synkron Resonator gone, I return Creation Synchron to my hand.

Mako: You're gonna need it. For now, I summon a second Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince.

Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 1/ATK: 800/DEF: 0)

Mako: You remember my monster's special ability, right? I'm tossing out another Altantean Heavy Infantry to add my third Atlantean Dragoons to my hand.

Mako's second Altantean Heavy Infantry appeared in front of him.

Mako: And with Heavy Infantry's special ability, I'll destroy your Dark Resonator.

Altantean Heavy Infantry launched itself towards Dark Resonator and destroyed it, which made Jack grunt.

Jack: My defense is weakening.

Mako: Oh, it's about to get weaker even more. Watch this. Level 6 White Aura Dolphin, tune with Level 1 Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince.

White Aura Dolphin turned into six green rings while Neptabyss moved through the rings as one star.

1 + 6 = 7

A beam of white light enveloped the star and passed through the rings.

Mako: I Synchro Summon, White Aura Monoceros!

Mako's new monster jumped out of the water.

White Aura Monoceros (Fish-type/Water/Level 7/ATK: 2500/DEF: 1500)

Jack: So now he's got a swordfish?

Mako: What? Swordfish? IT'S A NARWHAL! Now back to the duel. Since I successfully Synchro Summoned Monoceros, its special ability brings back a fallen friend from beyond the grave. Rise again, White Aura Dolphin.

White Aura Dolphin jumped out of the water.

White Aura Dolphin (Fish-type/Water/Level 6/ATK: 2400/DEF: 1000)

Mako: Thanks to Monoceros's ability, my Dolphin isn't allowed to attack this turn. However, since it was brought back as a brand new monster, I can use its ability once again to cuts your monster's strength in half.

White Aura Dolphin jumped into the air and used its sound attack again. Archfiend Abyss roared as it couldn't stand the Dolphin's sound.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss (ATK: 3200 - 1600)

Jack: My dragon's power! Not again!

Mako: Yes again! And with the Pendulum Scale set...

He raised his arm up.

Mako: I can Pendulum Summon once again!

The Pendulum portal opened up and out came four beams of colored light.

Mako: I summon my third Atlantean Dragoons...

Atlantean Dragoons (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 4/ATK: 1800/DEF: 0)

Mako: Legendary Atlantean Tridon...

Legendary Atlantean Tridon (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 3/ATK: 1600/DEF: 800)

Mako: A second Atlantean Pikeman...

Atlantean Pikeman (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 2/ATK: 1400/DEF: 0)

Mako: And taking a spot in the Extra Monster Zone is my first Dragonpulse Magician!

Dragonpulse Magician (Spellcaster-type/Pendulum/Earth/Level 4/ATK: 1800/DEF: 900)

The crowd stared in shock.

Crowd Member 39: I can't believe it. He's got six monsters.

Crowd Member 40: And it looks like Jack's monsters are doomed.

Mako: Now we've got a real fight on our hands. Atlantean Dragoons, attack Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane!

The two lancers rode their way to Archfiend Bane and struck the dragon with their lancers, destroying it in the process.

Jack's Life Points: 4100 - 4050

Mako: Before I get to your remaining monsters, I'm using Atlantean Dragoons's ability. It gives power to all my Sea Serpent monsters that are level 3 or below, allowing them to attack you directly.

Jack widened his eyes.

Jack: Attack me directly?!

Mako: Go. Legendary Atlantean Tridon and Atlantean Pikeman, go straight for his life points.

The two monsters rushed behind Jack and struck him.

Jack: AAAUUGHH!

Jack's Life Points: 4050 - 2450 - 1050

Mako: Dragonpulse Magician, wipe out his Flare Resonator!

Dragonpulse Magician went over to the said Tuner Monster and destroyed it.

Mako: And White Aura Monoceros, destroy Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss!

Monoceros swam its way towards Jack's monster and struck the dragon with its tusk. The dragon exploded after the attack. Jack came out of the smoke while breathing heavily.

Jack's Life Points: 1050 - 150

Mako: All your monsters are gone, and your down to your last 150 Life Points.

The crowd was in shock to see their champion that low on life points.

Applejack: Almost there, Mako. Just a little bit further and you'll win this!

Mako: I'll play this face-down. And then, I activate Tridon's ability. I sacrifice Tridon and Pikeman in order to summon Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon from my deck.

Mako's dragon roared as it was summoned to the field.

Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 7/ATK: 2800/DEF: 1600)

Mako: Next, I'm going to overlay Dragonpulse Magician and Atlantean Dragoons in order to once again build the Overlay Network.

Dragonpulse Magician turned into an orange light while Atlantean Dragoons turned into a blue light. The two lights shot into the air and swirled around each other. A red spiral portal appeared and then the lights entered the portal. The portal then explodes with light.

Mako: I Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Abyss Dweller!

Abyss Dweller appeared with two blue orbs swirling around it.

Abyss Dweller (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Rank 4/ATK: 1700/DEF: 1400)

Mako: As long as Abyss Dweller has a Water monster for an overlay unit, then all of my Water monsters shall receive an extra 500 attack points.

Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon (ATK: 2800 - 3300)

White Aura Monoceros (ATK: 2500 - 3000)

Abyss Dweller (ATK: 1700 - 2200)

White Aura Dolphin (ATK: 2400 - 2900)

Mako: That's all for me, Jack. Now let's see you try your best to get past my mighty creatures of the sea.

Status: Hand-00, Life Points-1000, Monsters-4, Face-ups-2, Face-downs-1, Graveyard-17, Deck-37, Banish-01

(Turn 7)

Jack: You want my best? You've got it. I draw!

Mako: Before you make your next move, I activate Abyss Dweller's special ability.

He detached Dragonpulse Magician from Abyss Dweller.

Mako: By using one overlay unit, Abyss Dweller prevents you from activating effects from your graveyard this turn.

Jack: (Thought) With that effect, I can't play Red Rising Dragon's special ability this turn. Oh well. No matter. I still have just the cards I need in my hand to summon my most powerful beast.

Jack revealed a Spell Card in his hand.

Jack: I'm activating... Resonator Call. And like it's name suggests, this calls out a "Resonator" monster from my deck and places it into my hand.

Jack added his monster to his hand.

Jack: But it won't stay in my hand for long, because I'm activating its special ability. When I have no monsters on my field, I can summon... Crimson Resonator!

The Tuner Monster card glowed in Jack's hand as he held it up.

Mako: Yeeeaah, no. That's not going to happen.

Jack: What?

Mako's Trap Card flipped face-up.

Mako: I'm activating the Trap, Recall. Bad news, Jack. Your monster's ability is negated and destroyed. But the good news is you get to draw a brand new card.

Jack grunted and his card stopped glowing as he placed Crimson Resonator in his graveyard. After drawing his card, Jack widened his eyes once he looked at it.

Jack: Alright, let's try this. I discard Mirror Resonator in order to special summon the monster known as Power Giant.

Power Giant (Rock-type/Earth/Level 6/ATK: 2200/DEF: 0)

Jack: And since the monster I discarded was level 1, Power Giant loses one level.

Power Giant (Level 6 - 5)

Jack: Next, I summon the Creation Resonator Tuner Monster.

Creation Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Wind/Level 3/ATK: 800/DEF: 600)

Mako: Uh-oh! I don't like where this is going.

Jack: But I do. Level 3 Creation Resonator, tune with Level 5 Power Giant!

Creation Resonator turned into three green rings while Power Giant turned into five stars.

Jack: In an inferno of power and might, a blazing new beast is now forged! Witness as great power is fortified into a single vessel, as might becomes even mightier.

5 + 3 = 8

A beam of white light enveloped the stars and passed through the rings.

Jack: I Synchro Summon, the original... Red Dragon Archfiend!

Red Dragon Archfiend (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 8/ATK: 3000/DEF: 2000)

The crowd was cheering while Applejack sat in awe.

Applejack: Original?

Jack: Remember my Resonant Destruction card? I sure didn't.

Creation Resonator's spirit appeared.

Jack: Because with it in play, I once again destroy your Dragonpulse Magician.

Creation Resonator was fired at the second Dragonpulse Magician, which was destroyed afterwards.

Mako: Grrr. I'll send my second Dragonpulse Magician to the Extra Deck.

Jack: Sounds good to me. And while you're at it, Red Dragon Archfiend's gonna take down your Abyss Dweller.

The red dragon's right hand became engulfed in fire.

Jack: Go, Absolute Power Force!

Red Dragon Archfiend slammed its open palm onto Abyss Dweller and crushed it in its fiery grip. Mako shielded himself from the impact.

Mako's Life Points: 1000 - 200

Jack: With your Abyss Dweller now gone, the attack points of your remaining monsters return to normal.

Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon (ATK: 3300 - 2800)

White Aura Monoceros (ATK: 3000 - 2500)

White Aura Dolphin (ATK: 2900 - 2400)

Jack: I'll place four cards face-down before ending my turn. And since Resonant Destruction's been on the field for two of my turns, it gets destroyed.

Resonant Destruction shattered.

Status: Hand-01, Life Points-150, Monsters-1, Face-ups-0, Face-downs-4, Graveyard-20, Deck-29, Banish-10

The crowd was cheering for both of them.

Crowd Member 41: This duel is more amazing and I thought!

Crowd Member 42: Look at their Life Points. They're practically even.

Crowd Member 43: These two are incredible!

Crowd Member 44: I'm not so sure who is gonna win this duel anymore.

Applejack: Come on, Mako. You've got this.

(Turn 8)

Mako: It's my move, Jack. I promise you, this will be the final turn, and it will end in my victory. I draw.

He looked at his card.

Mako: White Aura Dolphin, shrink his dragon's points down to size.

The dolphin jumped into the air again. But before it could use it's sound attack, a chain came out of nowhere and snatched the dolphin.

Mako: What's this?!

The crowd looked confused as the dolphin fell back into the water.

Jack: It looks like I've caught a bite. Only instead of a fishing rod, I've used the Fiendish Chain Trap Card. So not only your monster's not allowed to attack me, your dolphin cannot use its special abilities against me.

Mako grunted.

Mako: You're just delaying the inevitable. I play the Spell Card, Card of Demise.

Mako placed his fingers over his deck.

Mako: This let's me draw until I'm holding five cards, but I lose my entire hand in five turns.

Jack: Five turns, eh? Well, with our life points pretty low and almost even, this duel won't last that long. So I guess I'll have to defeat you beforehand.

Mako: Not if I beat you first, Atlas. Here we go. I summon another Deep Sea Diva.

Deep Sea Diva (Sea Serpent-type/Tuner/Water/Level 2/ATK: 200/DEF: 400)

Mako: And just like last time, I'll use her ability to summon my third Neptabyss... in defense mode.

Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince (Sea Serpent-type/Water/Level 1/ATK: 800/DEF: 0)

Mako: Third time's the charm, Jack. I'm tossing out my last Altantean Heavy Infantry for Call of the Atlanteans.

After Mako shuffled his deck, Heavy Infantry appeared right in front of him.

Mako: Now go, Heavy Infantry! Use your special ability to destroy Jack's Fiendish Chain!

Heavy Infantry launched itself towards Jack's Trap and destroyed it.

Mako: Now my dolphin friend is free from your chains.

White Aura Dolphin happily swam around in the ocean.

Jack: I thought for sure you were after my Red Dragon Archfiend!

Mako: And leave one of my friends all chained up? No way. But believe me when I say, "Your dragon's next." But first, I have to make a few adjustments. Deep Sea Diva, give Neptabyss a tune-up.

Deep Sea Diva turned into two green rings while Neptabyss turned into one star.

1 + 2 = 3

A beam of white light enveloped the star and passed through the rings.

Mako: I Synchro Summon, Tatsunoko!

Tatsunoko (Wyrm-type/Tuner/Water/Level 3/ATK: 1700/DEF: 500)

Jack: A Tuner Synchro Monster?!

Mako: Yep, and the Synchro Summoning doesn't stop there. Tatsunoko, tune with Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon!

Tatsunoko turned into three green rings while Poseidra turned into seven stars.

7 + 3 = 10

A beam of white light enveloped the stars and passed through the rings.

Mako: Now I Synchro Summon, White Aura Bihamut!

Mako's new White Aura Monster appeared from underwater.

White Aura Bihamut (Fish-type/Water/Level 10/ATK: 3300/DEF: 3000)

Jack: That thing is huge! It's even stronger than my Red Dragon Archfiend!

Mako: Yes, it is, Jack. And when Bihamut is Synchro Summoned, I can summon a Divine Dragon Token in defense mode.

Divine Dragon Token (Fish-type/Water/Level 10/ATK: 3300/DEF: 3000)

Mako: I have just a few moves left before I start attacking. First, I'll place Call of the Atlanteans face-down.

Jack: (Thought) That's strange. Why would he willingly say what he was going to throw down?

Mako: Next, I play Double Summon in order to summon again this turn. Then, I chain Emergency Provisions! Now, by sending Double Summon and Call of the Atlanteans to the graveyard, I regain 1000 life points for each of them.

Mako's Life Points: 200 - 2200

Jack: (Thought) So that's why he said his face-down out loud! He never intended to use that card! He just wanted to replenish his life points.

Mako: Thanks to Double Summon, I'm summoning out the Tuner Monster, Water Spirit.

Water Spirit (Aqua-type/Tuner/Water/Level 1/ATK: 400/DEF: 1200)

Mako: And with Water Spirit and Monoceros both on my field, I can now Synchro Summon one final time.

Water Spirit turned into one green ring while Monoceros turned into seven stars.

7 + 1 = 8

A beam of white light enveloped the stars and passed through the ring.

Mako: I Synchro Summon, White Aura Whale!

The whale made a whale sound as it jumped out of the water.

White Aura Whale (Fish-type/Water/Level 8/ATK: 2800/DEF: 2000)

Jack: Another one to deal with.

Mako: I'm activating my Whale's special ability. After it's Synchro Summoned, it can wipe out all of your monsters in attack mode. White Aura Whale, use your special ability to wipe out Jack's Red Dragon Archfiend!

After jumping into the air, White Aura Whale performed a sound attack like White Aura Dolphin, only its sound was much louder. The whale sound was so loud, Applejack and the audience screamed as they covered their ears. Even Jack screamed from the torture, especially since he couldn't cover his ears. However, he did use his hands to play his face-downs.

Jack: Trap Cards, go!

Two of Jack's cards flipped face-up.

Jack: Red Cocoon and Red Carpet! With Red Dragon Archfiend on my field, Red Carpet allows me to summon two "Resonators" from my graveyard. So I summon Dark Resonator and Synkron Resonator.

The monsters were summoned in defense mode.

Dark Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Dark/Level 3/ATK: 1300/DEF: 300)

Synkron Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Dark/Level 1/ATK: 100/DEF: 100)

Jack: And by equipping Red Cocoon onto my monster, its effect negates the special abilities of all your monsters whenever my dragon engages in battle.

Mako widened his eyes.

Mako: What?

Red Dragon Archfiend was destroyed, along with Red Cocoon. After that, White Aura Whale went back into the water.

Mako: I don't understand. Why equip a card onto a monster that was about to be destroyed?

Jack: It's simple. I "wanted" my Red Cocoon in the graveyard.

Mako: But why?

Jack: Because as soon as this turn comes to an end, its effect will enable me to re-summon my Red Dragon Archfiend back to the field.

Mako smirked with his eyes closed.

Mako: Hmph! Is that so, Mr. Atlas? Well, in that case, I'll just have to defeat you before that happens. But first, I play Premature Burial! By giving up 800 Life Points...

Mako's Life Points: 2200 - 1400

Mako: I can resurrect one of my mighty creatures from beyond the grave. Rise again, White Aura Monoceros!

White Aura Monoceros (Fish-type/Water/Level 7/ATK: 2500/DEF: 1500)

All the White Aura monsters were together. Dolphin and Whale swam on one side of the track, Monoceros and Bihamut swam on the other side of the track, and the token was right behind Jack on the track. Jack couldn't believe his eyes.

Jack: No way...

The crowd couldn't believe their eyes either. Even Applejack was super amazed.

Applejack: Whoooaa!

Mako: This is the moment I've been waiting for, Jack. I have all my White Aura monsters, including my token, together. And they're ready to take you down right here and now. White Aura Whale, attack Dark Resonator.

The whale jumped into the air. And just like the dolphin, the whale shot water from its blowhole.

Jack: It won't do you any good. My Dark Resonator's in defensive mode. Plus, it can't be destroyed in battle once per turn.

Mako: That doesn't matter to me at all, Jack. My whale can not only attack two of your monsters in a single turn, but it also deals you damage, even if your monster is in defense mode.

Jack widened his eyes.

Jack: Say what?

Mako: It's game over, Jack. Say bye-bye to the rest of your life points.

The attack was getting closer.

Jack: Bye-Bye nothing. I refuse to lose to the likes of you. Which is why I'm activating this. The Trap Card, Spirit Barrier.

Jack's final face-down flipped face-up.

Jack: Now, as long as I have a monster out and about, this Trap prevents me from taking any battle damage.

Mako: That sounds just like my Tornado Wall!

The attack landed and Dark Resonator survived. Because Jack didn't lose any life points, Mako growled.

Mako: Fine! I'll just attack your life points once I clear the field of all your monsters. Hit him again, White Aura Whale!

White Aura Whale launched its attack on Dark Resonator again. This time, Dark Resonator was destroyed after the battle.

Mako: Your Tuner Monster is gone, and your other one is next. Attack, Monoceros!

Monoceros swam towards Synkron Resonator and struck it with its tusk. Synkron Resonator exploded after the attack.

Jack: With Synkron Resonator destroyed, its special ability lets me retrieve Crimson Resonator from my graveyard.

Mako: As if that'll help you one bit! White Aura Bihamut, attack Jack's life points directly then end this duel.

The two heads fired two blasts from their mouths. The blasts then merged into one single blast.

Applejack: YES!

The crowd was getting worried.

Crowd Member 45: Oh no! He's wide open!

Crowd Member 46: If this attack hits, then Jack's a goner!

Crowd Member 47: I can't watch!

The attack was getting closer to Jack.

Jack: NO! I SUMMON... BATTLE FADER!

Battle Fader (Fiend-type/Dark/Level 1/ATK: 0/DEF: 0)

After Battle Fader was summoned, it deflected the attack, sending the blast straight into the sky.

Mako: WHAT!?

The crowd gasped in shock while Applejack stared in shock.

Jack: When you attack me directly, I can summon Battle Fader and then end your Battle Phase. Meaning you're not allowed to attack me again this turn.

The crowd cheered loudly for Jack while Applejack facepalmed.

Applejack: Gosh darn!

Mako grunted.

Mako: I end my turn.

Jack: Hmph! And because you did, the effect of my Red Cocoon Trap now activates, and you know what that means. Let's all welcome back the all mighty Red Dragon Archfiend!

Red Dragon Archfiend (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 8/ATK: 3000/DEF: 2000)

Status: Hand-00, Life Points-1400, Monsters-5, Face-ups-2, Face-downs-0, Graveyard-31, Deck-28, Banish-01

Jack: You've played well, Mako... but not well enough. This duel is now mine. I'm the one who started this duel, so I will be the one to finish it.

Jack was surrounded by a red aura. Mako, Applejack, and the crowd were frozen after seeing Jack's aura.

(Turn 9)

Jack placed his fingers over his top card.

Jack: It's time I'd show you what I'm really capable of. I told you you're the one who is going to lose, and I'm a man of my word! So here goes.

He extended his arm after drawing his card.

Jack: POWER DRAW!

Mako and Applejack: Power draw!?

Jack looked at his drawn card.

Jack: Yes. I'm activating the Mini-Guts Spell in order to tribute my Battle Fader.

Battle Fader left the field.

Jack: And when Battle Fader leaves the field, it gets banished from the duel. But more importantly, Mini-Guts reduces your Bihamut's attack points to zero.

The two-headed creature roared as it loses power.

White Aura Bihamut (ATK: 3300 - 0)

Mako: No way... My monster's attack points... It's over...

Jack: No, it's not. I'm not attacking with Red Dragon Archfiend!

Mako: You're not?

Applejack and the crowd were confused.

Crowd Member 48: Wait, so he's not attacking with his dragon?

Applejack: What is that Jack feller up to?

Jack: You see, Mako, when you played that Recall Trap Card earlier in this duel, you've managed to stop me from summoning my most powerful beast. But now, I have another chance to summon it, and there's no way I'm passing that up. To start, I'm summoning the Tuner Monster, Crimson Resonator!

Crimson Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Dark/Level 2/ATK: 800/DEF: 300)

Jack: And now that my Battle Fader's off the field, I can activate Crimson Resonator's special ability. Since the only other monster on my field is a Dark Dragon Synchro Monster, Crimson Resonator let's me call forth two Resonators from my deck. I summon Barrier Resonator and Double Resonator.

Barrier Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Light/Level 1/ATK: 300/DEF: 800)

Double Resonator (Fiend-type/Tuner/Fire/Level 1/ATK: 0/DEF: 0)

Jack: Now everything is in place for my ultimate Synchro Summon. My Level 2 Crimson Resonator, Level 1 Barrier Resonator, and Level 1 Double Resonator shall all give my Level 8 Red Dragon Archfiend... a "triple" tune-up!

Mako: Whoa, hold on! He's Synchro Summoning using "three" Tuners at the same time?!

Applejack and the crowd gasped as they stared in shock. The three Tuner Monsters jumped into the air and turned into a total of four rings of fire. Meanwhile, Red Dragon Archfiend moved through the rings before turning into eight stars.

Jack: Together, these monsters will bring out the most mightiest of dragons. A dragon so mighty that it even shines brighter than the sun itself.

8 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 12

A huge flame enveloped the stars and passed through the fiery rings.

Jack: I Synchro Summon!

A gigantic dragon flew into the air.

Jack: Take to the sky, Red Supernova Dragon!

Red Supernova Dragon shout out a mighty roar.

Red Supernova Dragon (Dragon-type/Dark/Level 12/ATK: 4000/DEF: 3000)

Mako: Unbelievable!

Applejack and the crowd gasped again.

Jack: Believe it, Tsunami! And my Red Supernova Dragon has a special ability. Just like my ordinary Red Nova Dragon, my Red Supernova Dragon absorbs 500 extra attack points for every Tuner Monster in my graveyard.

The spirits of Flare, Mirror, Creation, Dark, Synkron, Barrier, Crimson, and Double Resonator appeared. They all turned into balls of light before getting absorbed one at a time by Jack's new dragon.

Red Supernova Dragon (ATK: 4000 - 4500 - 5000 - 5500 - 6000 - 6500 - 7000 - 7500 - 8000)

Mako: 8000 attack points!?

Jack: It's been so nice dueling you, Mako, but Jack Atlas is the one crossing the finish line today. Go, Ultimate Blazing Soul Strike!

Red Supernova Dragon flew towards Mako's five monsters. As soon as they collided, the fish creatures found themselves in a flaming bright light. It was just like the end of Jack's duel against that Robot Jack. The creatures became obliterated in the bright light. First White Aura Monoceros, then White Aura Bihamut and the Divine Dragon Token together, and then White Aura Whale and White Aura Dolphin together. There was an explosion, followed by a flaming tornado. The crowd gasped once again. The explosion was able to knock Mako out of his boat and sent him flying through the air.

Mako: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Mako ended up falling into the ocean's water.

Mako's Life Points: 1400 - 0

Jack Wins.

Jack continued riding with a smile on his face.

Crowd Member 49: He did it! Jack won!

Crowd Member 50: Jack is amazing!

The entire stadium applauded for Jack's victory.

Jack: Hmhmhm!

Meanwhile, Mako was slowly descending down into the water while looking up at the surface.

Mako: (Thought) Jack Atlas...

Mako heard the crowd chanting Jack's name.

Mako: (Thought) He beat me...

After closing his eyes, he let out tears, which began floating up.

Mako: (Thought) ...and I lost.

As Mako continued to cry, Applejack came by and grabbed him. She held onto Mako and swam away.

Back on the beach, while the sun was setting, Mako was laying in Applejack's lap.

Applejack: Wake up, Sugarcube!

Mako slowly opened his eyes and looked up.

Mako: Huh? Applejack?

He sat up with a sad look.

Mako: I'm sorry, Applejack. I've lost the duel.

Applejack: That's okay, Mako. You did your best. Even though you lost, I'm still so proud of you. That duel was the most exciting thing I have ever seen!

Jack: She's right, ya know.

Mako and Applejack looked behind them and looked up on top of the hill. They saw Jack on his Duel Runner.

Mako and Applejack: Jack Atlas!

Jack: That was a very exciting duel. Out of all the duelists out there, you were the first one to ever lower my life points to 150.

Jack smiled.

Jack: You've really had me on the ropes, Mako. I'm looking forward to seeing how strong you'll become during our next duel.

Mako smiled.

Mako: That is one duel I'm definitely looking forward to, Jack.

After Jack gave Mako a thumbs up, he placed his helmet's visor down and sped off. Applejack and Mako waved goodbye to Jack.

Mako: I know I'll win the next duel. I just know it.

Applejack: I believe you will, Mako.

The two then noticed the sun setting.

Applejack: Wow! Ain't that a pretty sight?

Mako: Yes, it is. You know, my father once told me that the sun's even warmer like this.

Applejack: You said it.

Mako turned to Applejack.

Mako: Um, Applejack?

The two faced each other.

Applejack: Yes, Mako?

Mako: If, um... If your parents were here... do you think they would've liked me?

Applejack smiled and hugged Mako, much to his surprise.

Applejack: Oh yes.

Mako smiled and hugged her back.

Back in the real world, Applejack was still asleep. Like she was hugging Mako Tsunami in her dream, she was hugging her pillow as she smiled.
