PLANE RIDE TO CAIRO

MARION'S POV

The plane ride to Cairo was one of the best I ever had. With Helen sitting between me and Jones, I loved getting to know her. She was so spunky, and she reminded me a lot of myself. "Nightie, now we can search for the Ark. Do you remember what country it's from?" Jones asked his daughter. She thought about it for a few moments, then her face brightened with excitement. "Egypt!" she exclaimed. "Does this mean we get to see Uncle Sallah?!" she asked, practically bouncing in her seat. Jones grinned. "Yep! Uncle Sallah's going to help us find the Ark!" he told her. "Who is this Sallah?" I asked. "An old friend of mine, best digger I know." Jones replied. "Uncle Sallah is the best! He's nice, funny, and his nine kids are super fun!" Nightie yelled. My eyebrows rose in surprise. "Nine kids?" I asked. "Yep!" Nightie exclaimed. "When we met three years ago, I taught them how to play baseball. It's mine and Daddy's favorite game!" she said. Indy chuckled. "Now Sallah has his own little league." he said rubbing the younger Jones' head. After about an hour she fell fast asleep. "She is a treasure." I told Jones. I had to make sure he knew what he had. "I know, of all the treasures I have had the pleasure of holding, she is the best. I'm happy to call here mine." he said. "Where did the name Nightingale come from?" I asked. I thought it was an unusual name. "It's a nickname, her real name is Helen. She used to take voice lessons, and she has the prettiest voice. So I called her Nightingale, and it stuck." he said. "If it isn't too personal, who is her mother?" I ask. He had not once mentioned Mrs. Jones. He looked away from me, and down at his feet.

"What's wrong?" I ask. He looked back at me with a pained expression. "Sorry, it's just, her mother Deirdre, she died in a plane crash ten years ago. Nightie was twenty seven days old, and she and I were the only survivors." I felt my jaw drop in shock. The poor thing, I looked at the young girl, lying asleep against her father's arm. I never knew my own mother, I found myself relating to this girl more and more. "I'm going to help you, Jones." I told him. "I know, you're my partner." he told me, holding up the medallion. "No, not about the Ark. About her. I promise to help keep her safe while we're on this trip." I swore to him. I could see tears in his eyes as he looked at me. "Thank you. Ever since last year, she has been going on adventures with me, and we barely make it out alive. Sure, we get lucky. But how long until our luck is gone?" he asked. "Jones, if she has half the luck you've got, she's set for life. She's a fighter, just like you." Jones laughed. "Thank you, Marion." I smile at him. "It's my pleasure, Indy."

NIGHTIE'S POV

When I woke up, we arrived in Egypt. We grabbed our luggage and I giggled in excitement as I saw a familiar car drive forward to pick us up. "Uncle Sallah! I exclaimed, embracing the driver as he got out. "Ah, Nightie! How are you my dear?" he asked me, holding my shoulders, and then kissing my forehead. "I'm fantastic!" I shouted, jumping up and down. "Sallah." I heard Dad say from behind me. Uncle Sallah let go of me to shake hands, and then embrace my father. "Indy my friend, it has been too long!" he exclaimed. "Who is this?" he asked, looking at Miss Ravenwood. "I'm Marion, Marion Ravenwood." Marion said, shaking Sallah's hand. "I am Sallah, and it is a pleasure to meet you. Please, everyone get in." Uncle Sallah said, gesturing towards his automobile. I got in the back seat with Marion, while Dad sat in shotgun. Dad and Uncle Sallah discussed the Nazis' plans for finding the Ark. Soon we arrived at Sallah's house, where his nine children greeted me excitedly. I sat with Dad to talk about the Ark with Sallah. I could hear the other nine children laughing, Auntie Fayah, Uncle Sallah's wife, came to inspect them. "What is so funny? "Where did this animal come from?" she asked. I looked over at the table. There was a monkey wearing a small red vest.

Marion picked up the monkey. "Oh, it's adorable." she said. Auntie Fayah smiled at Marion. "Then it is welcome in our home." The monkey climbed up to Marion's shoulder, and as it did, Marion cried "Oh no, you don't have to keep it here because of me!" Dad and I laughed as we watched then Dad focused his attention on Sallah. "I should have known the Nazis would hire you, Sallah. You're the best digger in Egypt." he told Sallah. "Thank you, Indy. But I do not wish to work for them. Not only because of they are, because the hire only strong backs, and pay them in pennies." Sallah shook his head glumly. "It's as if the pharaohs have returned." He took a deep breath and then continued. "They have not one brain among them. Except one, he is very clever, that French archeologist." Dad and I looked at each other, I could tell we we thinking the same thing. "What's his name?" Dad asked our friend. Sallah chuckled "I don't know his real name, but they call him Bellosh." Dad started laughing, and I couldn't help but join in. Sallah looked at the pair of us in confusion. I tried to explain, but I couldn't stop laughing. "Belloq, of course it's Belloq. He's a rival of ours." Dad managed to get out. "He found the Map Room three days ago, they're now trying to locate the Ark." Sallah explained. Dad held up the medallion "They're not gonna find it without this." he said, handing to Sallah. Sallah took it and looked it over. "Perhaps a man I know can help us read it. But Indy, Nightie, if the Ark is there at Tanis, then it is not of this Earth. Man shouldn't be looking for it."

An couple of hours later, Dad, Marion, and I are shopping in the streets of Cairo. Dad had bought a container of dates, and a lovely green Egyptian dress for me, which I immediately put on. Marion was cooing over the monkey, much to Dad's annoyance. "Do we have to have the monkey?" he asked. Marion looked at him with a large grin on her face. "Honestly Jones, I can't believe you'd talk that way about our baby. She's got your looks." she said. "Yeah, and your brains." he responded. I laughed, and started choking on the date in my mouth. Dad thumped my back and Marion laughed. "You ok, sweetie?" she asked. "Fine." I replied hoarsely. "It's just that Dad got you good there!" She grinned at me. "You know I noticed she had my brains. She's a smart little thing, smart!" she pet the monkey, it jumped down and ran off. "Hey, where are you going?!" Marion asked as it ran off. "She'll be alright. Here have a date." Dad said, offering one. She took it without looking at it, then started walking with Dad and I. She looked at the date in her hand. "What's this?" she asked. "It's a date, you eat them." Dad replied. "They taste really good, Auntie Marion!" I said. "Auntie Marion?" she asked looking at me. "Well yeah." I said, beginning to feel embarrassed. Marion pulled me into an embrace. "I like that. Thanks, Nightingale!" She plopped the date into her mouth and we continued into the market.

We were looking at watermelons when suddenly men in masks started to attack us. Marion and I dodged their attacks while Dad fought them off. "Marion, take Nightie and get outta here!" he looked at me. "Duck, Honey!" he yelled, putting his hand on my head. I allowed him to shove me down as he punched a man behind me. Dad helped us into a wagon. He started fighting the thugs with his whip, which startled the horse. The horse took off, I could see one of the thugs chasing after us. Marion grabbed a frying pan and waved it in his face. He laughed as he pulled out a large knife. "He has a point there." I said, unsure on right to do. "Right." Marion said, and she grabbed my wrist and began to run again. "Come on, Nightie!" she yelled. I ran behind her, and she led me in through a doorway. She readied her pan as he came through and slammed in into his face as hard as she could. He fell unconscious, and I helped Marion pull him into the doorway. I took his knife to arm myself. "Let's get out of here!" I said. "Quick this way!" Marion said, pointing at some baskets. I got in one of them, while Marion got in another. I tried to catch my breath as some men, who were saying some very bad things about us in German, ran past. Suddenly I could hear the monkey climbing near me and start screaming. I opened the lid of my basket enough to see it standing on Marion's basket. She attempted to shush it, but it was too late. "Over there!" I heard one of the Nazis yell in German. I clutched my knife, about to strike when suddenly my basket started moving. They were carrying Marion and I away. "You can't do this to us, we're Americans!" Marion shouted. "Dad!" I called out. If anyone could help us, it was Dad. Marion seemed to agree. "Indiana Jones! Help us, Jones!" she screamed.

INDY'S POV

I found the wagon I put the girls in earlier, it was empty. I saw a group of those thugs carrying two baskets through the alleyway. I heard voices coming from over there, and I realized those voices belonged to Nightingale and Marion! I shoved my way through the crowd chasing them. The whole time, Nightingale and Marion were calling for me to help them. Soon I ened up in a large area filled with people carrying baskets identical to the ones that the girls were trapped in. I rushed around knocking down every basket I saw. Soon I had the locals swearing at me in Egyptian, but I still didn't have the girls. "Dad, help!" I heard Nightie's voice scream. I growled as I chased the thugs. When I got my hands on them, they were going to wish I was going to kill them. I planned on causing as much pain as I could to their bodies and minds. I chased the thugs through the alleyways. Soon they turned right. I attempted to follow. But there was a man with a machine gun. I could see the thugs behind him loading the baskets into the truck. I pulled out my revolver, and shot the machine gun owner. I then fired at the truck driver. The truck fell in it's side, I could get in grab the girls, and get out.

BOOM!

I watched in horror as the truck exploded. Marion and, and Nightie. No. No, no, no, no! NO! It can't be true! It just can't! Marion and my little girl have to be here somewhere! I looked at the site, my mind making appear as that plane that crashed ten years ago. I promised Deirdre I'd keep Nightingale safe. Look at me now. Stop it, Indy. Your kid isn't dead. Is she? Now I'm doubting. Look at me. I lost my kid. Because I was too stupid to figure out how to keep her home, and I lost Marion by dragging her into this mess. If I had just told them to stay at Sallah's, they'd be alive. But no, I just had to bring them out into the open! I decided I needed a drink to clear my head. I needed to decide what my next move was. Stay here, and look for the Ark, or go home. Retire early. With just myself, I could sell all the ancient junk at the house and retire into the mountains. Never to be seen again. But first, a drink from the place where Sallah and I love to drink. An hour later I sat a table drinking a bottle of vodka. Soon the monkey Marion loved joined me, I stared at the poor creature. I didn't know what to do with this thing either. If I attempted to raise it, it'd probably end up dead too. "Dr. Jones?" I heard a voice ask behind me. I look up, it's a man I have never seen before. "Your presence is required." he told me in German. Nazis, great.

NIGHTIE'S POV

I woke up tied to a pole inside a tent. I didn't know where I was, and the last thing I remembered was being pulled out of my basket and being knocked out by my attackers. I tried to call for help, but that's when I realized I was gagged. Not that it mattered anyways. Anyone that could have heard me probably wanted me tied up here anyways. Suddenly the Nazi that burned his hand walked in, and smiled a creepy grin when he saw me. "Ah, Fraulein Jones. Glad to see you are awake." I felt so creeped out, but I knew I had to stay strong. My father would come for me, and if you mess if Indiana Jones, daughter. You are gonna wish you were dead.
