THE WELL OF SOULS ENTERANCE
INDY'S POV
We had been digging for hours. Lightning crashed overhead as we dug. I was beginning to get scared I had miscalculated. I couldn't afford any delays, the longer I took getting the Ark, the more danger those girls were. I wasn't going to lose them three times, not if I had anything to say about it. I heard several men exclaim something in Arabic. "Indy, we've hit stone!" Sallah cried. I watched as the men dug around the stone. "Clear it off, find the edges!" I yelled over the thunderstorm. I looked up at the sky, it was as if it was warning us to leave the stone alone. I looked back at the team, they had the edges exposed. "Ok, now bring the pry bars in!" I commanded. "As a team boys, work as a team!" Sallah shouted. They pried the stone away from the hole, and Sallah and I peered in. Lighting lit up the dark room before, and there was a giant Anibus Statue, which startled Sallah. While the Anibus was interested, the thing that caught my focus was the floor. It appeared to be slithering. "Indy, why does the floor move?" Sallah asked me. Dreading the answer, I held out my hand. "Give me your torch." I told my digging friend. He handed me the torch, and I dropped it onto the floor. I heard a bunch of hissing, and I could just make out a couple of snakes fighting each other. I looked away from the hole, this trip just got a lot worse. "Snakes, why'd it have to be snakes?" I asked aloud. "Asps, very dangerous. You go first." Salla declared, grabbing my hand. I looked up at him. Surely he was joking, right?
A few hours later, after they got a giant thing full of gasoline down there, they lowered me down into the Well of Souls. He wasn't joking, I went first. I fell of the rope and landed in front of a King Cobra. I looked at it, and it looked at me. I moved very slowly as to not anger it, as soon as I got to the gas can, it was the first snake I covered in gasoline. Using the hose, I covered as many snakes as I could in gasoline. "Sallah, get down here!" I shouted. I grabbed a torch and threw it at the cobra. The speed of which the fire spread amazed me. I couldn't help but smile as the snakes burned. I set torched down on the ground, making a pathway to the Ark. Sallah made his way down, and when he arrived, we hauled the lid of the stone container off of the Ark. I looked inside, the lid of the Ark was made of solid gold, with two golden eagles touching each others wings! Sallah and I put the poles we brought with us in through the post holes to lift the Ark out of the stone container. The entire Ark was made of solid gold! We carried it over to the crate the boys lowered down for us as we grabbed the Ark, and sealed the crate shut. "ok, bring her up!" i shouted. The crated stared to rise, swing slightly on the rope it hung from. "Gently!" I yelled. As the crate rose, Sallah and I fought off the snakes with our torches. We'd have to wait until the Ark was unloaded before we could go up. "Defiantly not a place you'd like to visit, eh?" Sallah asked as he burned a snake. "No." I said shortly. I found it better to not talk, just focusing on getting rid of the snakes. Soon the ripe came back down, and Sallah looked at our torches. "Indy, the torches are going out." he said in a fearful tone. Sallah was also afraid snakes. "Go, get out of here." I said. Please hurry Sallah, I don't want to stay down here. After about five minutes Sallah made it up, I grabbed the rope, and it fell down on me.
"Sallah-!" I began angrily, but I was interrupted by a unfortunately familiar voice. "Hello, hello down there!" Bellow shouted at me. "Dr. Jones, whatever are you doing in such an awful place?" he asked me. Trying my best to smile, I responded "Why don't you come down here, and I'll show you?" I ask in a sarcastic tone. Bellow laughed "No thank you Jones, I think we are rather comfortable up here." he said. "What a fitting end to your career. You're about to become a permanent part of this archeological find. Who knows? In a thousand years, even you will be worth something!" he said, grinning. I laugh sarcastically and swear at him, fending off the snakes as I do so. "Dr. Jones." I hear an unknown voice say. I look back up, one of the Nazi Colonels is speaking to me. "We must be going now, our prize awaits us in Berlin. Or rather, should I say one of our prizes." He says, the German soldiers hold up Nightingale. She was unconscious! What did they do to her?! "She's a treat to the eye, don't you think? Any German man would be willing to pay for her." he said smugly. "Wait, don't take her!" I plead. They couldn't take Nightie! "Don't worry, we don't intend to leave you down there by yourself." he said. "Get your hands off of me! Nightie!" I could hear Marion shouting. They threw into the hole, she grabbed the tooth of the Anibus Statue, and hung there. "Marion, don't fall, I get you!" I said. The tooth broke, and Marion fell. I managed to catch her in my arms. "You traitor, you get your hands off of me! You no good, child abandoning, treasure stealing, low life jerk!" she screamed at my face. She pushed me away from her, which resulted in her falling on the floor face to face with another cobra. She moved, just barely dodging the cobra and climbed on my shoulders yelling "Snakes, snakes!" Looking back up, I could see Belloq looking at us with a pained expression on his face. "Indiana Jones, adieu." he said. They sealed off the Well of Souls, leaving Marion and I alone in a room full of snakes
"Marion, what'd they do to her?!" I asked Marion, dreading the answer. Marion looked at her feet in a shameful way. "Indy, it wasn't them. She drank eight shots of French vodka." she said. "SHE WHAT?!" I roared. "Belloq served it to us, trying to get us drunk enough to give away where you where. I told him not to serve her because she was ten, and to defy me, she just started drinking, and would have Belloq serve her another!" Marion cried. "To defy you?" I ask. "I pretended to be mad at you, saying you brought me nothing but trouble, to get Belloq to trust me. Nightie thought I was serious, and that I didn't like her. She became upset, and just lost control. Indy, I'm so sorry!" she sniffled. "How much did she drink?" I ask, completely blown away by this news. "Seven." she said quietly. "SEVEN SHOTS?!" I ask loudly. "Yes, she tried to to an eighth, but she passed out." Marion said. I couldn't believe my ten year old girl could drink that much. Seven shots. I looked at a wall were the snakes were slithering through holes. If snakes were able to enter through it, there must have been an exit somewhere. I started to climb up the statue, and used my whip as a climbing rope. Marion looked up at me. "Where are you going?" she asked. I pointed at the wall. "Through that wall." I responded. I started rocking the ancient statue. "Marion, if I don't make it, and you're able to save Nightingale. Will you please raise her, and keep her away from alcohol this time?" I asked. I wasn't sure if I was gonna survive this little joyride. "What are you saying, Indy? What do you mean if you don't make it?" Suddenly the bottom of the statue broke, it started to fall towards the wall. "Here we go!" I shouted, grabbing my whip for support.
CRASH
I slowly got up, coughing my lungs out. But I was alive. I dusted myself off, I had to find Marion, and get out of here. I could see a sliver of light, and I walked towards it. The wall on this side, was made of large, stone blocks. I could probably move the top one with Marion's help, speaking of Marion, I'd better find her. I could hear her screaming somewhere nearby. It took a while for my eyes to adjust to the dark, but soon I could see her surrounded by old corpses. "Marion!" I shouted, pulling her away from the corpses. "I found a way out." I informed her. "Where?" she asked. "Follow me." I replied, leading her to the wall. "Come on, push!" I said, pushing the block forward. Marion joined me, and we managed to push the block out. "We did it, Marion. We made it out." I told my companion.
Marion and I could see a Nazi Flying Wing, with two Nazis inspecting it. "We must hurry, the Colonel wants to load the Ark and the girl on the plane immediately!" a Nazi yelled in German. I looked over at Marion. "They're going to fly Nightie and the Ark to Belin. When they load them in, we'll already be on that plane." She nodded, and I made my way to the Flying Wing, and I one of the Nazis' head into the plane knocking him out. I then punched the other one, who in turn, swung his wrench at me. I dodged his wrench, and wrestled him over it. I forced the wrench into the propeller, cutting the head of it clean off. I then used my enemy's shock to my advantage, and knocked him out cold.
I climbed up the plane, when I heard a deep voice calling out to me in German. "Hey, small American. Come here. Do you want to fight?" I turn around to see a large German man. "Come here." he challenged. I raised my hands and nodded. I didn't have enough time to fight this guy, I needed to find Nightingale. I got down from the plane and raised my fists. This guy had about twice the amount of muscles I did, I knew I'd never win the fight if I fought fairly. Time to fight a little dirty. I stared at a spot on the ground, pretending to be distracted by something. When he looked, I kicked him in between the legs. He barely hunched over as he uppercut my jaw. He grabbed me in a headlock, and I bit his forearm as hard as I could. He screamed in pain, and threw me from under the plane. The pilot aimed his pistol at me, but the big guy got in his way. Mr. Muscle punched me in the ribs and threw me to the ground. I grabbed a handful of sand and threw it in his face. He screamed and began rubbing his eyes. As soon as I moved away, I saw the pilot had his pistol aimed right at my heart. Right as he was about to shoot me, Marion knocked him out with the Wheel Chocks for the Flying Wing. Marion and I grinned at each other until the large Nazi charged at me again, punching my ribs. "Indy, I'm stuck, help!" I could hear Marion yelling. I looked at the pilot cockpit of the plane, Marion had somehow gotten herself stuck in the plane! I swear, everything that could have possibly gone wrong, went wrong. To top it all off, the plane began to drive around in circles.
I tried to pull out my revolver to shoot the large man, but he knocked it out of my hand, the revolver landing on the ground. A truck full of Nazis arrived and loaded their weapons. Marion managed to access the gun on the Flying Wing, and shot the truck, but I noticed that the plane knocked over a gas tank on the truck, and a spark from Marion's gun had lit it on fire. "Oh, great." I muttered. I tried once again to climb on top of the Flying Wing, but the large German grabbed me and threw me onto the ground. I got up, he punched me in the face. When I fell down, I noticed the propeller was right behind him. I ducked as low as I could, and I could hear him screaming. I got up, grabbed my revolver, and climbed on top of the plane, and next to Marion. "Marion, unlatch it!" I yelled. "It's stuck!" she replied. Good grief. "Get back!" I shouted. She moved back, and I shot the latch off the door. "Move!" I yelled, and we ran away from that plane right before it exploded. There was no way Belloq missed that.
About ten minutes later, Marion and I made it back to the camp, and hid inside a empty tent. Everyone was going nuts running around, I didn't see Nightie, but I did see Sallah. I whistled to him, and he followed the sound of my whistle. He came inside our tent, and whispered with joy "Indy, Marion, my dear friends! I am glad you are not dead!" I smiled at him. "It's good to see you too, Sallah. What did they do with Nightie?" I asked. Sallah nodded grimly. "She and the Ark are being loaded on the back of a truck, to be flown out to Berlin." he answered. "Truck? What truck?" I demanded. Right then, I saw a large truck drive through. Sallah, Marion, and I quietly followed it, it stopped in front of Belloq and several Nazis. They had Nightie and the Ark with them, and she was awake! She probably had a huge headache from last night, hopefully she would never touch alcohol again.
NIGHTIE'S POV
My head was killing me. I couldn't remember much from last night. I remembered Dad saying he'd come back for Marion and I. Wait a second, Marion! Where'd Marion go?! A large truck came into the camp, and I was loaded into the back of it, along with eight Nazis and a crate with two long handles on each side. "Protect the Ark, Jones must not get it." Belloq told the eight Nazis. The Ark was in that crate?! Where was Dad? The truck started to move, and the Nazis played poker with each other, using the crate as the table. "That looks fun." I said. They looked at me "Do you know how to play poker?" one asked me. I nodded. "Would you like to?" he asked. "Sure, seeing as how I'm not doing anything right now." I said. A couple of them laughed as they dealt me in. They talked to each other a lot in German, insulting my father. I won the first few hands by bluffing my way through. They started talking amongst themselves in German again, wondering how I was so good. One of them concluded I must be cheating. I laughed "No need to cheat when two of the best players teach you how to play." I told them in German. They turned red with embarrassment, they didn't realize I could understand them. "Who taught you how to play?" one of them asked. "My father, and my best friend." I replied. Before they could ask anymore questions, I heard some shouting, and a machine gun firing. I then saw Dad riding a horse behind us. He sped up to be beside the truck. After a few minutes, I saw two Nazis lying on the road, my father was now driving the truck with the Ark, eight Nazis, and I in the back. We would sharply turn every so often, because Dad would run vehicles off the road. After a few more minutes, six of the Nazis climbed out onto the sides. Dad just used the nearby trees to brush them off the truck. One of the two remaining Nazis climbed off to the side after his companions fell. I waited anxiously to see that Nazi fall, but instead I heard a gunshot. What had happened?! Had Dad been shot?! After five minutes the truck ran over the Nazi. The last Nazi climbed up to the top of the truck. Soon I heard glass breaking, but I couldn't tell what happened. Soon Dad came from beneath the truck and came into the back. He cried as he embraced me.
"Oh, Nightingale." he sobbed. "I am so, so, sorry! I thought I could grab the Ark and rescue you, but I put you in danger!" he cried. I hugged him around his arms, and he winced. "Ow, sorry sweetie, not right there." he said, clutching his left shoulder. I looked down at my right arm. It was covered in blood, Dad's blood. "Dad, are you ok?" I asked, shaking. "I'm fine, I just need to drive this truck. Stay hidden behind the Ark. Ok?" he said. I nodded. He smiled at me. "How did I end up with such a brave little girl like you?" he asked, squishing my face. He then turned to climb outside the truck, but he stopped to face me. "Oh, we're talking about last night as soon as we're safe." he said to me. Yeah, honestly I should have expected that one. He climbed out to the side, and soon we hit another large bump. Dad threw the Nazi out the truck. We turned sharply as Dad drove Belloq's car off the road. Soon we were speeding through a marketplace, we went inside a large, empty building, and the locals hid our truck behind a large stall. I could hear Belloq and the Nazis yelling in frustration as they searched for us. Soon they drove away, just leaving me and my father alone with the Ark.
"So, Marion tells me you drank quite a bit last night." Dad said once I climbed up to the front of the truck to join him. "Yeah, but I don't want to ever again." I said honestly. I made a promise to myself I would never touch any alcoholic beverage again. Dad smiled. "I'm glad to hear that. A girl your age shouldn't be anywhere near the stuff." he said. "I'm sorry Dad, I was just so upset." I told him. "With me leaving you? Or with Marion?" he asked. "I guess both, but I tried my hardest to believe you'd come back. When Marion said she had no loyalty to you, I guess I was just angry." I said. "Understandable, Marion does tend to say things that anger people." he replied, giving me a wink. "I think you're thinking about yourself, Dad." I laugh, punching his good arm. "I'm gonna find Sallah and Marion, do you want to stay hidden in here and protect the Ark?" Dad asked. I nodded. Once he left, I could help but giggle in pure joy. He saved me, just like I knew he would. My father saved me.
