For as long as there were humans, there were stories of heroes. Stories that would teach lessons, stories that would inspire, stories that told tales of men and women larger than life itself. Many of these have stood the test of time and were told even to the modern day, inspiring generations to come.
In the middle of a destroyed city block, under the full moon, one such story was reaching its final chapter.
"UNITED STATES OF SMASH!" The hero known as All Might roared with the ferocity of a wounded lion. What was once a fading beacon became a roaring inferno of hope, his fist carrying the last embers of the hope he passed on. This all mighty weapon crashed into the side of his nemesis's face like a runaway bullet train, a loud crunching noise echoing through the dark night.
With one smooth but powerful motion, the hero punched the monster of a man known as All for One into the ground, which shattered from the an instant, a tornado erupted to life from the point of impact, the destructive winds violently pushing away anyone witnessing this historic moment. As the winds roared around him, as the ground beneath them was eaten by his attack, All Might slowly died. In his last moments, All Might whispered to himself as he watched his nemesis finally go down.
"Farewell… One for All," With those final four words, the last sparks of hope died out, leaving behind only the man Toshinori Yagi.
In the past, only a few people were privy to the last moments of a hero, but thanks to the modern day, All Might's death was seen by millions across the globe. His death caused the light of hope that lived in people's hearts to fade. Fearful of the future, the world began to cry out in one voice, all for a singular wish.
Bring back All Might.
Among these voices, one single voice cried out the loudest, someone who loved All Might with all their heart. It was the cry of a pure child, the sort of cry that any hero worth their salt would come rushing in to answer. As the child watched the TV with tears streaming down their face, a miracle occurred. Unknown to them, a magical circle began to etch into the floor. A bright, warm light filled the room, but they didn't notice through their grief, their eyes glued to the TV.
The hero didn't mind though. What he did mind was how obvious the child's distress was, even with their back to him. That was something easily fixed though. After all, he knew there was one surefire way he could cheer the child up.
"It's fine now!" He called out, his voice like an angel sent from heaven. "Everything will be okay!" The child turned around, their sadness turning into confusion, before it turned into happiness. "Because… I am here!"
In a different world, a young black haired boy laid in bed, staring at the white ceiling of his room. The last Master of Chaldea sighed to himself as his mind wandered. His time here at Chaldea was almost at an end. The Incineration of Humanity was reversed, and the five Pseudo-Singularities were defeated. The last two years had been a whirlwind for the young boy, but now all that Fujimaru Ritsuka had to look forward to was returning to normal life.
He wasn't even sure if that was what he wanted.
With a sigh, he sat up, groaning as his joints cracked. "22 days until Christmas… I wonder who would have been Santa this year." He muttered to himself as he walked to the door, a mechanical hiss filling the air as it opened in front of him.
He walked down the halls, sighing to himself as he noted just how quiet it was. Now that every singularity had been taken care of, Chaldea had to release some of the Heroic Spirits back to the Throne, leaving only a few behind. Ritsuka hated it. People that he considered friends and family had just been taken away, but… he always knew this would happen someday. He just wished it wasn't so soon.
A blaring alarm and the hallways turning red by the flashing lights snapped Ritsuka out of his thoughts. That couldn't be right. Why would an alarm go off, what could possibly go wrong? The boy ran down the halls, soon bursting through the door to the Command Room. "What's going on?" He asked.
Already in the Command Room was his ever reliable friend Mash and the genius Leonardo Da Vinci, the two sitting at a computer terminal and reviewing the information the terminal was feeding them. Mash was the first to notice his presence, quickly standing
"Senpai!" She called out. "I… it's confusing and a bit hard to believe, but…"
"There seems to be a new Singularity." Da Vinci interrupted as she stood up. Ritsuka didn't know how to react. What was he supposed to feel about this news? Unable to come up with an answer, he simply asked.
"Where is it?"
"That's… the confusing part," Mash admitted. "The Singularity itself is minuscule, hovering right over Japan but… We can't pin down an exact time period, or even where in Japan it is." Ritsuka rubbed his chin as he heard that. That was very unusual. The Chaldean staff were some of the best workers he knew. Usually they could give at least a time period along with a location, but to not even know where in Japan the Singularity was? Something was fishy, that was for sure.
"That's not all," Da Vinci commented. "The Singularity itself seems to be… expanding." Now it was so fishy they might as well have been having the meeting in a fish market. The Last Master of Chaldea couldn't remember a Singularity doing something like that.
"We definitely can't just ignore that." Ritsuka muttered. Even a tiny Singularity could grow to threaten the stability of the Human Order, he couldn't imagine what an expanding one could do. Mash nodded in agreement.
"I still don't like it though," Da Vinci spoke up. "Another Singularity, and in the last month before you leave… especially one as unusual as this. It could be a trap of some sort." Ritsuka nodded. They had met Demon God Pillars trying to get revenge on him, but they already took care of all the escaped Demon God Pillars, didn't they?
"Well, we'll just be extra careful then." Ritsuka stated. Da Vinci sighed. "Actually, wait. If you can't verify the time period, then I shouldn't be able to be observed, right? Isn't that dangerous?" He asked.
"Not to worry, Se-np-ai!" A voice that sent shivers down his spine called out. "Your ever dependable kouhai BB will be helping!" With a sigh, Ritsuka turned to see the devilish A.I. BB skipping to a seat. "Since your pathetic 2017 technology can't be depended on, I'll lend a helping hand! I won't keep my eye off of you for a second, so you'll be safe for sure!" she teased as she sat down.
"That's… great…" Ritsuka muttered uncomfortably, ignoring the jealous look Mash was sending BB. Da Vinci cleared her throat, drawing Ritsuka's attention back to him.
"I don't want to send you with so little information, but we don't have time to gather that information, especially since we don't know if the Singularity will suddenly speed up its expansion." Frankly, it was more surprising the distortion in time was so steady. "You'll need to get a Servant you fully trust in to take with you."
Ritsuka nodded. He had just the person in mind, one of his first Servants and someone who still stuck around even after most Servants had left. "Alright, I'll go grab them," He said as he ran out of the Command Room. While he was gone, Da Vinci and the rest of the Chaldean staff got into position, prepping for the new operation.
It didn't take long for Ritsuka to return with the Servant, his red coat flapping like a hero's cape as he followed his Master.
"Thanks for coming on such short notice, EMIYA." Da Vinci said apologetically.
"It's fine, this isn't something we can ignore after all." The Heroic Spirit said with a smile. "Are you ready, Master?"
"As ready as I'll ever be." Ritsuka muttered as he finished adjusting his Chaldean Uniform.
"Bringing along your mother Servant, Senpai? You're so predictable!" BB laughed.
"I don't recall being a woman." EMIYA shot back as he walked over to the coffins, helping Ritsuka into the device.
"Alright everyone! We'll begin the Rayshift immediately!" Da Vinci called out as the door of the coffin closed. EMIYA climbed into his own just as a robotic voice filled the room.
"Starting Unsummon Program. Commencing Spiritron Conversion." Everyone kept their eyes glued to the screens as the announcement continued. "Rayshift begins in 3… 2… 1… All systems are go. Analyze Lost Order. Commencing Remnant Order Search."
Fujimaru closed his eyes as he was once again transported away from Chaldea, the Rayshift being business as usual for him. However, back at Chaldea, it was anything but business as usual.
An alarm sounded just as Fujimaru took off, the room glowing red once again. EMIYA's coffin opened up, causing the Heroic Spirit to stumble out, coughing. The man fell to a knee, breathing heavily before he stood up, looking to Fujimaru's coffin. When the device didn't open, the man grimaced.
"What happened?!" Mash asked as she stood up.
"It seems…," BB narrowed her eyes as she stared at the screen. "The Singularity itself accepted Senpai, but the moment our red bowman touched the edge of the Singularity, he was rejected, and sent back here."
"Wait, doesn't that mean that Senpai is in the Singularity by himself?!" Mash called out in a panic.
"There's more than just that," BB supplied. "I'm verifying his existence and… that wasn't a traditional Singularity we just sent him to. Now that I can see the other side… I can't see the edge of the Singularity… because he already passed through it." The room was silent for a moment, everyone trying to figure out what this meant before Da Vinci suddenly spoke up.
"Are you saying that the Singularity was a portal to another world?" Da Vinci stood up. BB nodded in response.
"Yes. Senpai is now in another world completely. I can still make contact with him, but as seen with EMIYA, it seems we can't send him any support." BB explained. The whole room went silent before they turned back to their screens. If they couldn't support Ritsuka… could he survive in that world by himself?
They could only wait and hope…
