Ace had just returned to the Moby, and he immediately moved over to Marco, showing him the piece of paper he had gotten from Chopper. 'I want to go here.' Marco frowned as he looked at the paper. "Why, yoi?" He asked as he looked at him, so he could read his lips. 'I visited Luffy, and his doctor knows someone who might be able to fix my voice. I really, like really, want to try it.' Marco nodded, thinking it over. "What if it doesn't work?" Ace shrugged. 'Then I'm still mute. I have nothing to lose.' Marco frowned a bit. "I'm not sure about this. I don't want you to get your hopes up, yoi." Ace shook his head. 'I won't, I promise! Please! Can we try?' Marco gave a breath. "Fine, let me speak with Pops, okay, yoi?" Ace clapped his hands. 'Thank you!' He was on his way to head on, when Marco moved a hand to his shoulder. "Promise me you won't get your hopes up. Bay said there's no hope." Ace nodded. 'I know, but this is a specialist.' Marco nodded. "Even though. Promise me." Ace nodded. 'I won't.' He wouldn't, he would just continue to be mute if it didn't work. Nothing to lose.

Marco stood out on deck, looking at the island they were approaching, an island they had never been on. It was a neutral one, so it was fine in that manner. But, it was the island to the person Ace wanted to visit. He was worried that Ace would get his hopes up, and then it wouldn't work, and for him to be down because of it. He knew Ace didn't like to be mute, so he was worried. Ace had been excited for this.
When they did dock, Ace was almost vibrating in excitement. Yeah, Marco was worried. As they were docked, Ace looked at him, and Marco sighed. He had promised. "We can go to this person, yoi. I want to join you though." Ace blinked. 'Oh, okay. Sure. Can we go now?' Marco kept a sigh inside. "Yeah, we can, yoi." The two then headed off the ship, Marco making a motion to Pops, so he knew they would head off, which the man nodded to. They then got to the door and Ace got there first, knocking on it. When it opened, there stood a woman in her mid twenties, lifting an eyebrow at them. "Hello?" Ace gave a wave, mimicking a 'hello', which had the woman frown, and Ace blinked, before he motioned to him, and he gave a small chuckle. "Hi, we don't mean to disturb you, but we're looking for Doctor Andrea." The woman nodded. "That would be me." Ace got more excited with that, and looked at him, Marco seeing he starting to speak and looked over, catching most of it. '-her if she can fix this!' Marco nodded and looked at the doctor. "My brother here can't speak, and we spoke to someone who said you might be able to help, yoi." The doctor nodded. "What is wrong with him? Born like this?" Marco shook his head and motioned to Ace, who took his scarf off. He had put it on automatically when they docked. It was a scarf with their mark on it, so it was fine. The doctor gave a hum as she looked the scars over. "Ah, I see. Come in! Let's get a closer look at that throat."
They then walked into the house, heading to a living room, where different things were. "I don't want to head to the clinic, where most of my equipment is. I can see if I can do anything here." Ace nodded excitedly, and the doctor hummed, grabbing a few things, before she checked Ace over, first on the outside. "How long? I also know sign language." That had Ace blink, before he signed it was about two years ago. It had the doctor nod. "Are you able to speak at all?" Ace gave a half nod, before he signed 'Sort of. He heard me once, I managed a word.' The doctor frowned. "Why did only he hear you?" Ace nodded to himself, before he signed 'He has-' Ace had trouble with the next word, so Marco spoke up. "I have hypersensitive hearing, courtesy of a devil fruit." The doctor nodded. "Okay, so there is something that works a bit. How was it speaking?" Ace gave a silent sigh, before he signed 'it hurt a lot.' The doctor nodded. "I see. That's not a good sign. Let me check the inside." Ace nodded and opened his mouth, the woman bringing a few things out and checked his throat.
When she had, she sighed, which Marco took as a bad sign. She then moved to sit on a chair. "Okay, here is my verdict; you're mute. I'm sorry. There's too much scarring for me to do anything. How you even managed a word is beyond me; the scarring is bad." Marco saw the verdict hitting Ace and his face fell, before he nodded. 'Oh, okay, okay, that's fine.' He mimicked, making the woman look at him, who nodded. "He says it's fine." He did say it was fine, but Marco didn't believe it. The doctor then gave a look to Ace. "I'm sorry." Ace nodded, Marco seeing something in his eyes, and Marco had a feeling what would happen when they left.
They then bid goodbye to the doctor, who showed them out, and when the door closed, it didn't even take a second before Ace was hugging him. Which had him sigh. "This is what I said. You get your hopes up, and then you feel bad, yoi." Ace nodded against him, before a shiver went through his body, and he had a feeling that Ace was sobbing, just without sound. Marco sighed inside himself, moving a hand to Ace's head. "I'm sorry, yoi. I had a hope it might work, but had a feeling it wouldn't." Ace nodded as he leaned back, drying a few tears, before he looked at him. 'I'm sorry I got my hopes up.' Marco shook his head. "No, I knew it would happen." Marco then gave a supporting look to Ace. "I'm sorry. I had a hope myself, but I had a feeling it would turn out like this. I'm really sorry." Ace shook his head, a hand wiping a tear. 'No no, I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up.' Marco agreed a bit, and was on his way to speak when Ace did. 'Can we just head back home?' Marco nodded. "We can."
The walk back home was done in silence, and when they got to the boat, Thatch was there asking how it went, and Ace just shook his head as he walked past him, heading to his room. As he did, Thatch turned to him with a frown, and Marco sighed. "No hope." Thatch blinked, before he looked blue. "Oh no, I hoped it would go fine." Marco nodded. "Ace did as well. I'm going to check on him." Thatch nodded, still looking blue. It was sad it wasn't as hoped, but it was what he had thought would happen. He then headed to Ace's room, and when he knocked, there obviously was no answer, so he carefully opened the door, seeing Ace sitting on his bed, a pillow in his hands and head down in it. The way Ace's body moved, he was sure Ace was crying. So Marco moved over and sat down next to him, moving a hand to his shoulder. Ace responded by leaning his head on his shoulder, and Marco moved his hand around Ace's shoulder. "It's going to be fine, Ace." Ace gave a small nod, head still down in the pillow.
