His twin sister
Harry Potter
I just added Rose.
Pairings to come. I know who will be paired with whom, but I can't tell you right now. I'm still undecided about Hermione.
James was holding his newborn son in his arms, safely wrapped in the baby blanket they had chosen for him a few weeks ago, and was immediately pushed out of the hospital room by the nurse and the doctor so they could work on Lilly, who was having a hard time with the delivery of their son's twin sister. It didn't even register to him that the nurse was talking to him as though she had known him for a while, with a familiarity, adressing him by his name instead of the usual and respectful "Mister Potter" he was used to. It didn't register and he didn't really care.
The woman he loved more than anything, the mother of his children, was in lots of pain and the second baby appeared to be in danger. Through the pain, Lilly was begging them to do whatever was necessary to save her daughter, even if it meant sacrificing her own life. That was how much she loved her children already. She'd rather die and have them live than live and have them die.
"How is Lilly doing?" Remus asked his friend as soon as the new father appeared, looking extremely worried.
"I don't know, she's having a hard time but they didn't tell me anything, they just told me to leave the room with Harry while they helped her… It's not good though, I think Rose and Lilly are in danger..." James shook his head.
"She's strong James, Lilly will be fine." Sirius told him before he took his godson in his arms, cooing at the beautiful baby boy.
"Where is Peter?" James asked them after having looked around for his other friend.
"He went to visit the Longbottom's before they go home with baby Neville. He's not sure he'll be able to visit them anytime soon once they get home." Remus replied.
"Hey James, did the nurse look familiar to you? I feel like I've seen her before but I can't quite remember where." Sirius asked his best friend.
"She did, but I can't remember where I saw her before. Now that you mention it, she acted like she expected me to recognize her though, with a certain familiarity. She kept on calling me James instead of Mister Potter." James shook his head.
"You two seriously don't remember her?" Remus asked them while baby Harry slept in his godfather's arms.
"No, why?"
"She was in Huffelpuff, a year above us, super in love with you, James. You never gave her the attention she wanted but she was obsessed with you. Don't you remember her at all? She used to send you love letters! You used to get like, one letter every week, with hearts and perfume and all." Remus asked him.
"No… It doesn't matter anyway, it's all in the past. I just want Lilly and Rose to be okay." James shook his head.
They felt like they waited forever until, finally, the doctor walked out of the room, announcing that though Lilly had survived and would, in time, fully recover and be able to have more children, their baby girl was born still and that there wasn't anything they could do to help her.
Of course Lilly was devastated, she was sure she had felt her daughter move, she was sure that she had been alive seconds before they managed to get her out, she had a hard time accepting that her baby girl, her little Rose, Rose Lilly Potter, was dead, gone forever, before she even had the chance to live.
.
Jenny Collins didn't know that being a nurse would give her the opportunity she wanted to get her revenge on James Potter for rejecting her advances in the past. As soon as James left the room with the first baby, she put a confusion spell on the delivering mother and an Imperius on the doctor. Then, as soon as the baby girl was born, she immobilized the baby so it would look and feel like she was born dead, like she had been dead all along.
She hid her smile when James and his best friends came in the room in tears to comfort the mourning mother. Using their distraction, she replaced the real baby by a well charmed copy and left the room, and the hospital, with her new daughter, planning on leaving the country as soon as possible.
She knew that she had to hurry because they were speaking about the fact that Albus Dumbledore was on his way to visit them and she didn't want to cross him, surely he'd get suspicious and discover the truth, he always knew everything.
She had heard the parents saying that they would have named the baby girl Rose Lilly Potter and, in her great generosity, she decided to give the girl the name she was born to have all along.
This child would be hers, she would raise James Potter's child as her own. The girl would never know the truth, nor would anyone else. She wouldn't go to Hogwarts, she'd go to another school and never meet her twin brother. Everything would be fine, she knew it. It would be her justice.
.
Severus Snape knew that he shouldn't be here, but he couldn't help it. He had to see her, to know how she was doing, to show her that he still cared, no matter what happened. This could be the last time he faced her peacefully, so he couldn't help himself, he came to visit her.
After news of what happened to Lilly Evans... No, Lilly POTTER, had reached him, he just had to come and visit her. He waited until James and his friends had gone, until Lilly was alone, supposed to rest, when he walked in the room.
"Lilly, I know I'm probably one of the last people you want to see, but I had to come, I wanted to see how you're doing..." Severus said quietly as he walked inside the room.
"Severus? I didn't expect you to come here..." She shook her head, too tired to pretend she was fine.
"I know we're on different sides, that we see things differently, and I'm still mad that you chose James because... I never said it but you must know how I've always felt about you... Anyway, it doesn't matter... I heard about your daughter and I knew I had to come and... I know there isn't much I can do, but I wanted to offer you my support." Severus told her, still speaking in a quiet voice, barely above a whisper.
"Oh Severus, I've tired to pretend I'm fine in front of James, but I know he saw right through me... I have to be strong for my son but I... I could picture her, you know? I could see her in my head... She would have been perfect... I loved her so much already..." Lilly cried.
Unable to help himself, Severus went closer to her, placed the flowers he had brought on the side table and hugged his old friend, his first and only true friend.
"It's alright, you don't have to be strong in front of me..." He assured her and so she cried on his shoulder for a while.
"Thank you, Severus. I've... I've missed our friendship." She told him with a small smile once she was done crying.
"Me too." He replied.
At this moment, her baby boy, Harry, had woken up and Lilly went to take him in her arms.
"I think he misses her too..." Lilly whispered.
"Well, they were pretty close together for 9 months." Severus nodded.
"What now, Severus? What happens now?" Lilly asked him seriously.
"Now? Everything goes back to normal. You go home with your son and your husband and I go back to my life. Eventually, I know you'll have more children. You'll lead a long and happy life."
"You're not happy." She insisted.
"Of course not, I could never be happy without you in my life, but it's alright. I'm used to it." He replied.
"You could always change sides, be my friend again. I'm sure it would be fine." She assured him.
"You truly believe that your husband would be fine with us being friends even after I changed sides?" He asked her.
"I'm absolutely sure of it." She nodded.
"I'm not. It's too late." He shook his head.
"It's never too late to do the right thing, Sev, please consider it. You used to say that being a muggle born didn't matter, that it didn't change anything..." She begged him and he nodded before he turned around and headed for the door.
On the way out, he saw the beginning of a letter she was writing to her sister and he said:
"Another lost cause you seem to believe in. You should give up on her too, she'll never be the sister you remember again. She's too jealous of you. Goodbye Lilly. Stay Safe." Severus smiled sadly one last time at her and left.
She couldn't help but think, in that moment, about the past, when she believed Severus and Petunia would get over their animosity, fall in love and end up together. She had been foolish, maybe, but to this day she still believed that they'd have been a far better match than her and this fat, and rude muggle, Vernon Dursley.
A couple of hours later, James came back to see Lilly.
"These flowers are pretty, they weren't there earlier. You had visitors?" He asked her and his tone only showed curiosity.
"Yes, just one... I... Severus came for a visit." She whispered.
"Snape? Why?" James frowned.
"You know we're friends, or we used to be... A long time ago... Feels almost like another life now... Anyway, he came to make sure I was fine. He heard about Rose... For a little while, he was my friend again." She replied with a smile.
"You miss him." James stated.
"I miss the friend he used to be, and I know he could be him again, I know that there's good inside him because I've seen it. He could change, become a better man..." Lilly shook her head.
"It's not easy changing when you stand where he's standing." James warned her.
"I know but... I want to help him... But he needs to make the decision on his own. The first step has to be his, only then we can find a way to help him."
"Well, I love you my Lilly, and unfortunately, I know that he does too, it's one of the reasons we never got along and argued so often he and I. But if he does take the decision to change, if he switches sides, then I promise you that I'll be there with you to help him." James promised.
"Look who's a mature adult now!" Lilly teased James who chuckled:
"Don't let Sirius know, it would break his poor little heart!"
And of course Lilly chuckled along with him, which woke up baby Harry who needed to be fed.
"It's just... I thought it would all go differently..." Lilly said once she had placed Harry on her breast to feed him.
"What would go differently?" James asked her, confused.
"With Severus... I always thought that eventually, he and Petunia would get over their animosity, that they'd realize what a great match they did and that they'd fall in love and get married together... Then she and I would be close once more and Severus would be my friend, my brother... I was so sure that it would go this way..." Lilly shook her head.
"Petunia and Snape? Really? I guess... Maybe..." James frowned, imagining two of his least favorite people together.
"You don't know them as well as I do, I assure you, they would be a good match, they would make each other better, nicer... He'd have been a lot better for her than this Vernon... Anyway, no point to dwell on the past now, it's over..." She shook her head.
"Hey, you never know. Maybe Vernon will die or divorce her, and maybe Snape will change sides. You can never tell, Lilly." James tried to bring her mood up, which made her smile softly.
I'll try to update once a week
I hope you'll like it, please leave me a review to let me know.
Who do you think will be paired Rose? And with Harry?
Some chapters will be shorter than others. This is one of the longer ones. I'll update regularly though, at least once a week.
Next chapter will be short.
