Chapter 1: State of Affairs

What was an already irritating situation - unbeatable monsters, some wrong-foot team interaction, horrible lies told, and secrets kept - became worse when Lita Kino - Sailor Jupiter - began having doubts about her relationship with lead Ghostbuster Dan Shannon - her Solar Knight.

Having doubts of his own - specifically of his past - Dan conveys to fellow Ghostbuster Eduardo Rivera that he was embarrassed about the fact he was dating Lita, whom he had met when she was very young. Garrett Miller - while inadvertently eavesdropping on the conversation - uses the information to convince the other members of the Ghostbusters - Roland Jackson and Kylie Griffin - that Dan isn't as honest as he makes himself to be.

While on a morning search for the recorder and it's sheet music being used to destroy the world, Eduardo again brings up the conversation. While resting in the back seat of the F-150 that Dan was using as the night crew's Ectomobile, Lita awoke in the middle of the conversation. Because of the vague verbiage, Lita was left with her own thoughts on the matter.

After the Sailor Scouts arrive in New York, the teams have some conflict, but through conversation, they begin to open up to each other. Amy Mizuno and Raye Hino - Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars, respectively - offer to stay at Ghostbusters HQ to help the team with researching the recorder.

Even with the mounting distrust that was beginning to build, Dan and Lita nevertheless went on a date after a long week of fighting winged creatures that had dominated the New York skys. With the creatures suddenly ending their attack, and city spectral activity dropping to non-existent, Egon Spengler - co-founder of the Ghostbusters - believed the team needed the weekend to stop operations and regain their sanity.

It was short-lived.

After a disturbing encounter at a famous New York restaurant, Dan and Lita attempted to end the night at Battery Park. The night, instead, ended with them battling the Man-Bat creatures that had been summoned by the first stanza of the Symphony of Destruction. After being injured by a creature, Lita is forced to drive Dan back to the firehouse in Roland's Mustang, which he had loaned to Dan for their date. The vehicle became severely damaged in the process.

Creatures attacked the building in massive numbers; the Ghostbusters' equipment couldn't stop them. Watching the onslaught unfold before them, Raye and Amy make the decision to help. With the beasts about to overrun the firehouse, two mysterious women destroy the creatures by throwing fire and ice spells around to stop the horde. The two women were of course Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars.

After analysis of one of the dead creatures, Egon discovers the beasts are from the Negaverse, explaining why the Proton Packs couldn't affect them. Slimer - the class fiv that resides with the Ghostbusters - was also ill, him being brought to Egon to find his PKE was being siphoned off.

Being injured, Dan is ordered off the field. His worry of being sidelined was voiced, him explaining that the creature that injured him was really after Lita. Even with his concern, he was ordered to bed after passing out shaking Eduardo's hand.

While on assignment to repair devices for Egon, Roland becomes frustrated, worried about his family while all of the chaos was occurring. On a friendly suggestion by Amy, the both of them go for a walk in Tribeca to clear Roland's head. They, instead, got a Draugr attack. Roland goes to attack the monster back with nothing more than an experimental pulse weapon he brought with him, telling Amy to rush back to the firehouse to warn Egon. Amy had no intention of leaving Roland alone.

Discovering he was healed, Dan learned that Eduardo Rivera was in fact Venus Knight. His healing ability had been activated while shaking Dan's hand. Amy called Lita's communicator to warn Dan, Lita, and Egon of the Draugr heading toward the HQ.

Sailor Mercury aids Roland which leads him to discover Amy was Sailor Mercury. After another Man-Bat attack and becoming trapped in an alley, the symbol of Mercury appears on Roland's chest shortly before an injured Man-Bat attempts to harm Sailor Mercury. Accidently using one of his incognito powers to stop the beast, Sailor Mercury discovers that Roland truly is her Knight. The Draugr attacks and corners them as well as Luna and Artemis - magical cats who are the Sailor Scouts' guardians and advisors - in a bank-owned building in the far end of Tribeca. Sailor Mercury - attempting to save Artemis outside the building from Man-Bats - is captured by the Draugr. Luna gives Roland a transformation necklace and he uses it to transform into Mercury Knight. With Dan, Egon, and Lita's help, they take down the monsters, but not until after Dan and Lita have a massive argument in the middle of the fight.

While attempting to talk to Mino Aino - Sailor Venus - Eduardo finds himself talking with Serena Tsukino - Sailor Moon - about odd dreams he's been having, and how they have to do with Mina. The encounter leaves Serena unnerved at the similarities to Dan's arrival to Japan 7 years before and suggests they leave for the firehouse when Amy contacts and instructs her to do exactly that.

Just before Eduardo arrived, Mina talked about how Eduardo was… strange whenever he was around her. While mentioning him, Darien Chiba - Tuxedo Mask and Serena's fiance - would suddenly get a headache. This time, however, he recalled a memory. They headed to GBHQ.

Dan began calling everyone to report to the HQ when in the same traffic jam, Kylie, Darien, Mina, Serena, and Eduardo were caught in yet another attack. Eduardo, with Serena accompanying him, began to - almost against his will - put himself in harm's way to protect Serena from another Draugr after their cab was destroyed.

Having a spare cache of equipment at home, Kylie was making way to the firehouse when a second Draugr walked past her bus. In the crowd outside, she saw Darien and Mina being physically attacked by the creature. After aiding them in knocking the Draugr out, Darien and Mina felt Serena and Eduardo in danger. Taking a scan with her meter, Kylie learns the meters had been tampered with, Darien and Mina being PKE blank spots. Taking the spare Proton Pack for Eduardo, Darien assures her they are not their enemy. The two of them ride away on a discarded motorcycle.

Serena - having no choice but to do so - transforms into Sailor Moon right before Eduardo. It was in vain for her attempt to protect him instead turned into him knocking her out of harm's way. When Sailor Venus and Tuxedo Mask arrive to stop the first Draugr and give Eduardo the spare Proton Pack, Sailor Venus becomes unconscious trying to use her Love Chain to incapacitate the beast, but failing terribly. The sight inexplicably sends Eduardo into a blind rage, triggering his transformation into Venus Knight without a transformation chain.

In the first few seconds of his transformation, Venus Knight caused a Man-Bat's head to explode by sheer hydrostatic shock by only punching it. His rage continued as he cleeved the Draugr in two, causing the beast's helmet to skip off into another direction.

Kylie arrives on scene to witness the fight when she was attacked by several more Man-Bats, attention on her after she screamed over the maggots in the Draugr's helmet that came to rest at her feet. After Venus Knight came out of his rage-state, Tuxedo Mask explains what just transpired. Shortly after, Venus Knight sees Kylie in danger and bolts off to rescue her.

Erecting a shield of energy around them, Venus Knight holds off the beasts while Sailor Moon throws her Moon Tiara. After missing, Kylie reverses the tiara's movement with her proton stream and annihilates the creatures actively attacking them.

While fighting schermishes in the street, Tuxedo Mask sees the Draugr that attacked him and Sailor Venus earlier walk down the street. He inadvertently learns that the Draugr and the Man-Bats are actually against each other.

As the fight raged, Kyile voiced her feeling of betrayal. Even with Sailor Moon explaining why they weren't enemies, Kylie was still unnerved by the whole encounter. After Sailor Venus awoke and found the Draugr and Man-Bats barring down on her, Venus Knight steps up the action and saves the injured Sailor Scout from a multi-front attack. Before dealing the final blows to the Draugr, Tuxedo Mask grabbed the man's arm and awoke his memories which sent Venus Knight into a new mad-rage frenzy. Venus Knight cuts down the second Draugr and traps both monsters in a trap. After Venus Knight heals Sailor Venus's wounds, unsure of what just happened before her, Kylie takes the trap and runs back to GBHQ.

After an encounter at Squibb Park with Garrett, Raye learns where Mars Knight had been this whole time as well. Raye ran away when Garrett - unintentionally - criticized her criticism of him using Sailor Moon's name. After being confused, he saw images that were not his own in his head. The night before, Raye had done the same over the diner fire and his claustrophobia which caused his disdain for Dan. Not only mentioning Sailor Moon, but her other form as Sailor Mars with no logical input from anyone up to the point caused her to panic and run away.

The earthquake that hit the city the week before had damaged the bridge to the park, and without thinking, Raye ran across it. When the bridge gave and was about to collapse, Garrett raced to her position and got her off the bridge before it crashed into the ground. Before they hit the other side of the still standing section of the bridge, Raye saw it on Garrett's chest.

All of the Solar Knights have been found.

The three male members of the new Ghostbusters have now not only discovered the Sailor Scouts, but they learned they are the Inner Scouts' protectors. Some were not pleased to learn that Egon as well as Dan had kept this secret for years, let alone tampered with the PKE meters.

Back at the firehouse, everyone had gathered just as a storm brewed outside. Garrett was especially upset, to the point that in front of everyone in the Ghostbusters' garage, he repeated what he had heard Dan say to Eduardo a week before about him and Lita. Being pressured, Lita finally succumbs to her paranoia on what she had heard in the cab of the truck that morning and confronts Dan about his words. Before he could explain himself properly, she ends up jumping to conclusions and hits him so hard, he slides over Ecto-1's hood and hits the floor head first, knocking him out. Seeing his unmoving body, Lita realizes what she had done, but being unable to handle the guilt she now felt, ran into the storm far away from the firehouse.

After coming to, Dan heads into the storm to look for Lita shortly after explaining why he was embarrassed of their relationship. It wasn't that he was embarrassed of her; she was very young when he met her, and didn't want anyone to think he was sick. Even with the team now knowing, they continue to take Dan's leadership without a second thought, with the exception of Garrett. Shortly after Dan leaves, Garrett voices his thoughts one more time for Roland to finally stop with the games and tell Garrett the truth about the diner fire…

Roland hit the gas pipe; Dan took the blame for it.

After finding Lita soaking wet in Battery Park, Dan confessed what it was he meant by being embarrassed and why no one knew about her. He explains about his father and the things he used to do to silence him; his fear of becoming him. Lita sees into his memories and realizes it was because of that he never said anything The two of them begin to make up for the whole weekend's worth of drama when the Order of Asatro made its move.

The Order had been keeping their eye on the Ghostbusters for some time, but the arrival of Lita and the other Sailor Scouts had them thrown through a loop. After learning Lita was dating Dan, Madame Holly took special care to send her lapdog Matthew on the case to keep tabs on them, sending their spies out to gather information. The Order proceeded to taser Dan and outfight Lita, capturing her and thoroughly beating him into incapacitance. After taking his truck, his equipment, and leaving him for dead, they believed they were about to gain the breathing space needed to continue using the recorder.

Dan stumbled back to the firehouse, cut up, bleeding, and bruised. Garrett - after talking with Raye and feeling remorse for what he had done - was greeted with a very hostile and now extremely dangerous version of Dan Shannon. Dan vowed to find Lita at any cost, gearing up with his older style spare equipment and heading into the storm. He disappeared into the darkness with only one goal in mind.

This is where our story resumes…
