Hello everyone, here is another one shot, this time from Roses in the Waves

This is in a different universe than my original story, as Sabo is dead dead in that, not amnesiac or hiding in a cave. But what if he was amnesiac and found a clue leading to Ann?

This was a request

Hope you enjoy

Read and relax

Sabo blinked as he read the newspaper, moving his hand to the picture in it. "Sabo," Sabo turned his head and looked at Koala. "Something wrong?" She asked, and Sabo opened his mouth, before he closed it, and then tried again. "I… I think I know this person." Koala frowned and moved over and looked at the newspaper. "Portgas D Ann? She's on the Whitebeard's ship." Sabo read that, and nodded. "Yes. But I feel this is a face I have seen before." Koala nodded. "What do you want to do?" Sabo shook his head a bit, before he sighed. "I need to check this out. Maybe she knows something about my past." Sabo didn't remember anything from his past, his first memory was from when he woke up on the Revolutionary army's boat. He wanted to know who he was.

So with a word to Dragon, he got a small boat and headed out to find out who he was.

Ann smiled as she walked around on the island, and was looking at a few things in a stand, a jar that looked nice. She then lifted her head to see what Izou thought, as he was the best with things like this. But as she lifted her head, the jar fel from her hands and shattered on the ground. What? It couldn't be… She heard something muffled, before a hand touched her shoulder and she turned to see Thatch and the others, and she felt herself frown and annoyed as she moved her hand and slapped Thatch. "If this is a joke! I will murder you!" Thatch was a jokester, but this seemed a bit too… mean. Thatch frowned. "What? What joke?" Ann turned her head towards the person she had seen, and she felt her chest move quicker and quicker, but she still didn't get enough oxygen, and moved a hand to her chest. "Ann, yoi?" She heard Marco say, and Ann felt her eyes go blank. It couldn't be, she had searched for 2 weeks. 2 weeks. He wasn't there. But maybe that was since he was gone? Bodes did float, and she had found none.

Ann swallowed, looking at the person. "S-Sabo?" The man nodded. "Yes. You know me?" Ann blinked. What did he mean? "What?" The person, who couldn't be Sabo, took a breath. "I… have no memories. My first memory is a year and half ago, when I got fished out of the water by the Revolutionary army. But I saw your picture, you looked… familiar. Do you know me?" Ann couldn't believe her ears or eyes. What? She saw Marco moving to stand beside her, and he most likely recognized the man from her picture in the amulet. Marco frowned. "How do we know you're not lying, yoi?" That was a good question. The person shook his head a bit. "You can't. I can't. I don't know, but I want to know who I was, before I was found." Ann did her best to take a breath. "The- the real Sabo, he had a birthmark on his lower back, shaped like a star." The person nodded and turned around, lifting his shirt, and there it was. The birthmark. How was this possible? He was dead. Ann felt her breath stop in her chest as she saw the mark. It couldn't be.

The person then lowered his shirt, and Ann had no idea what to do. The person held a hand out. "Please, tell me who I am." Ann couldn't, not only since this was wrong as Sabo was dead, but since her voice was gone. This was Sabo? He was alive? Izou then took a step forward. "Why don't I show you a place you can stay, so you can speak about this. This is a lot for Ann. She needs time." Sabo nodded and when Izou walked away with Sabo, he turned to send a look at her. "Please tell me who I am." Then he left with Izou.

As they were gone, Marco moved a hand to her shoulder. "Ann, are you okay?" Ann shook her head, and used some seconds to find her voice. "He's… alive?" Marco took a breath. "Maybe, yoi." Ann felt a few tears fall. "But he doesn't remember me? He doesn't remember Luffy." He had never met Luffy, but he knew she was pregnant. But he didn't know that now. Marco moved and hugged her. "It's okay. We need to think here. It might be him, you never found a body, yoi." Ann nodded, feeling more tears fall, moving her head into Marco's shoulder, holding around him. She needed just something to hold onto, something that was real. After a few minutes, she leaned back and dried her tears with her hand. "I don't know what to do." Marco nodded. "I get that. But you need to speak with him, he might be really alive. Just with amnesia." Ann nodded, sniffling. She needed to keep herself together. She then looked at Marco. "I can't… I can't tell him about Luffy. I don't want to throw a child on him." Marco nodded. "I understand." Thatch then took a step forward. "I can say it is mine and Izou's maybe?" Ann looked at Thatch, who had a red cheek. They would do that? She gave a slow nod, before she gave a guilty look to Thatch. "Sorry for slapping you." Thatch shook his head. "I would have slapped me." Okay, that was good.

She then took a deep breath, before she closed her eyes and took some deep breaths, and then looked at Marco. "I need to speak with him." Marco nodded. "You do. Do it somewhere we can see you. It might be real, or it might be a trap, yoi." That was true too. It could be a trap. "We can do it in the galley." That sounded good, they could sit in a corner. Marco nodded and they moved to the ship, where Luffy was with Rakuyo, and Thatch was quick in taking him and shielding him from Ann, so he wouldn't hold her hands out to her. Then the person, maybe Sabo, and Izou came from around a corner, and Thatch spoke. "Iz! You forgot to pick up food for Luffy, our little Luffy." Izou did blink, before he nodded. "I did, sorry. I will go pick it up, why don't you join with Luffy?" Thatch nodded and the two headed off. Thatch would explain to Izou what was happening and why he said it like that.

Marco then took a step forward. "You obviously can't prove you are Sabo, but you might be, yoi." The man nodded. "I know. I don't ask for much, but I need to know who I was. I have the birthmark you apparently remember., that's all I have" That was true, he did, and not many knew about it. But still, this person… Could it be Sabo? "How…" Ann took a breath. "How do we know what you say is true?" The man sighed, before he moved his hand and lifted hair away from his face, and he had a huge scar on his face, by his left eye "I have this, I got it when I was found. Whatever happened to me caused this." It seemed to be a bad burn, and that would fit. The boat had been shot and burned. "I- I can speak with you. We can do it in the galley." The man nodded, and they headed on. Marco did say he would update Pops, then come to the galley. That was good.

When they got to the galley, they moved to a corner and sat down. And as they did, the man looked at her. "How long have you known me?" Ann took a breath. She could do this. "From when we were 5." Ann then moved her hand to her neck and took out the amulet, she should show it. She then opened it and showed it. "This… this is some months before the… accident." The man blinked. "That's… that's me." It might be, but she didn't know how to find out it was real. She couldn't ask questions from his past as he had none. What else was a thing Sabo could do or show beside the birthmark. She then remembered something, and held her hand up and moved her other hand to her index finger and moved it backwards. "Do this. Move it as far back as you can." Sabo nodded and did, and blinked when his finger went all the way down to his wrist, and it had the man gasp. "That is so cool. I didn't know I could do this!" Not many could do that. Could it really be?

Sabo looked at her. "What were we? You have a locket off us." Ann took a breath. "We were… best friends. We grew up together." The man gave a slow nod, before he blinked. "We drank Sakè together when we were 6." Ann blinked, before she frowned. "How do you know that?" She hadn't said that to anyone. The man shook his head. "It just came to me." That might be good, maybe he could remember her? Remember Luffy? The man then moved a hand to his head, and he seemed to have a headache. Ann took a breath. "Maybe… maybe we should continue this later?" The man nodded. "Yes. I have a small boat here, I can stay there. I think I was allowed to stay here, but I think I should be at my boat." Ann nodded, that seemed the best, and he left. When the door to the galley closed behind him, Marco and Whitebeard were beside her. "Ann, is it him?" Ann was on her way to answer, when a sob left her, and she moved her face into her hands as she sobbed, and she felt Pops move a hand to her back. "It's okay, daughter." She did feel Marco moving a hand to her leg for comfort as well.

After a few minutes, she lifted her head and Pops spoke. "Is it him?" Ann didn't know what to do. "I… think maybe yes. He said he remembered drinking sakè with me." Marco nodded. "Sometimes seeing something one knows or speaking of something one knows, it can jolt the brain to remember things, yoi." That made sense. Maybe… maybe it really was Sabo? She gave a sob with a laugh. "I don't know how I feel." Marco gave a supporting smile. "I get that. This is a lot, yoi. Think about this for today, and you can speak more later, maybe tomorrow." Ann nodded, that sounded good.

She spent the rest of the day trying to think of things to ask Sabo, to see if he could remember anything more. She did pass a few questions past Marco, to hear if they were good ones, and he agreed to most, but not all. But as Sabo was gone, she went over and grabbed Luffy when evening came, hugging him. She then looked at her son. "Maybe… maybe you can get a father?" Luffy giggled. "Mommy!" Ann nodded as she smiled. "Yes, I'm here. I will always be here." She said as she moved to give him a kiss on the forehead.

The next day, she spent the morning with Luffy, and when someone sighted Sabo, she handed Luffy to Thatch, who took him and would pretend it was his son, his and Izou's son. They then moved back to the galley. It could still be a ruse, but she felt herself doubting that more and more. Especially as she spoke with him, as she asked her questions. Most were answered with a 'I don't know', but some he suddenly remembered. like how they had fought a beast of a hog, and as he did, Ann nodded. "Yes. You used a pole." That had Sabo blink, as he moved a hand to his back and took a pole out. "I still do. I always wondered why I was good with this." Ann gave a small laugh with that, and she continued to speak with Sabo. While she was, Luffy started to cry, and it had Sabo sigh. "I hate babies crying." That wasn't good. Sabo then looked towards the baby. "I will never understand why a pirate adopted a baby." Ann nodded. "Yeah… they always wanted children." It did feel a bit wrong to say that, to lie about this, but she didn't want to overwhelm Sabo.

They then spoke more, and she found out Sabo still had the same humor as he had had, so they did a few jokes. He still had his personality, and he even remembered a few jokes from the past. Maybe things would go fine? When Sabo said he needed to leave, they headed out on deck, and Ann figured she shouldn't lie, she should tell the truth. So, Ann took a breath, when an opening came. "I can't lie to you anymore." Sabo blinked, before he gave a defeated breath. "You don't really know me." Ann shook her head. "No, no, I do. But…" She looked to her left and saw Thatch with Luffy and held her hands out to him, and he got it and brought Luffy to her, and when she had him, she looked at Sabo. "Luffy is mine. My baby… and… yours." Sabo blinked. "W-what? I… I have a son?" Ann nodded. "Yes, you do. You-" Sabo shook his head. "I can't have a child, I am 17. I'm too young! You're too young!" Ann nodded. "I know, it was an accident, we-" Sabo shook his head. "No." He then took a few steps backwards. "No. I can't have a son." And Sabo turned around and left, leaving her standing alone with Luffy.

She felt tears well in her eyes as she watched Sabo move to the island and out of sight. "Ann, are you okay?" Asked Thatch, and Ann shook her head. "No," She said with a sob. "How can I be? He doesn't want Luffy." She then felt Luffy move his hands up towards her. "Mommy?" Ann smiled through her tears as she looked at Luffy. "Don't worry, my little baby, I will always love you." She then kissed Luffy, and closed her eyes, and she felt Thatch move a hand to her back, trying to comfort her, and it felt nice, it helped a little. "Maybe he just needs time." Said Thatch, and Ann shook her head. "I don't think so." She then turned around and headed to her room, knowing Luffy was due for a nap, and when he was in his stroller, which was in her room for now and started to fall asleep, Ann moved her head into her hands and sobbed as quietly as she could, to not wake Luffy.

She then heard the door open, and she knew it was Marco, who moved to sit down next to her and a hand moving to her back. "Thatch told, yoi. I'm sorry." Ann nodded, but couldn't speak as she sobbed. She sobbed for a while, before she gathered herself with some calming deep breaths, before she looked at her sleeping angel. "We've been good this far, we can go on without him." She didn't want that, she had wanted a son with Sabo, and he had wanted a child of his own, but now it would never come true, Sabo didn't want a child.

She then headed out to the deck with Marco and the stroller, trying to be in good spirits. She at least knew what Sabo thought now, and knew her wish would never come true. But, it had been sort of a closure in a way. She had spoken with him. She wanted to say goodbye, but didn't want to suddenly show up on his boat, he probably didn't like her anymore. She was just a past he didn't remember. And he probably never would. She could do this alone. Or, not alone, she had everyone. Everything would turn out okay.

Sabo moved to sit down by his desk on his boat, and moved to his Den Den and called Koala, needing to speak with her. When she answered and asked how it was going, Sabo took a breath. "I have a son. And I don't want that." The Den Den blinked. "What?! She has a child?!" Sabo nodded. "And she says it's mine." The Den Den nodded slowly. "Do you remember anything about a son? Or a baby?" Sabo shook his head. "No, I don't. I've never liked children or babies." He never had, so why should he stay here? He would leave tomorrow, it was late and he would like to stock up on a few things.

But as he was lying in bed and relaxing with his eyes closed, he suddenly found himself holding Ann. "It will be fine, we can do this." He said, and Ann looked up with a teary face. "I can't. I can't do this." Sabo hushed her. "No no, we can. We're going to have a child." He said as he looked at Ann, who gave a chuckle with a sob. "I love you, Sabo." Sabo felt himself smile. "I love you too." Sabo sat up in bed. What was that? Was that… was that a memory? He then lied back down, closing his eyes. And it wasn't long before he found himself in another memory. Ann looked at him. Ann hummed. "Where will we go?" Sabo hummed as well. "We will head east, I think an island there would be safe, I checked a bit around and spoke with people. It seems like the island doesn't judge." Ann moved her head to Sabo's chest. "I am still happy about this. We're going to be parents." Sabo nodded. "We are. We're going to have a son or daughter." And he felt happiness in his chest. Ann nodded. "I hope for a son. I don't know why, but I do." Sabo smiled. "I do too. We need to think about names." Ann nodded. "If it's a girl… I want… Lucia. It just sounds good. You can pick male." Sabo hummed. "I think I either like Reda, Luffy, or Patrick." Ann took a breath. "I like… Luffy. Yeah, Luffy sounds right." Sabo nodded. "It does. But we have a good time to decide, we have months on us." Sabo sat up in bed again. He had… he had chosen the name?

Sabo closed his eyes, before he laid back down, hoping for another memory. He looked at Ann. "What is it? We can fix this." Ann shook her head, who was crying. "N-no, I am just- I am happy. I don't know why, but I want this." Ann moved her hand to Sabo's. "I want a baby with you. Even though it was accidental." Sabo nodded, before he took a breath before he nodded again. "I am as well. I want this with you." A few tears then made their way down his face too, and Ann moved to hug him. And he felt happy and ecstatic. Sabo blinked his eyes open. Had he wanted a child? The more he thought about it, the more it felt… right.

He then closed his eyes again, and he spent the night swimming in memories of him and Ann. How he had loved being with her, how she was so kind to him and wanted to be with him, how they planned a life together, and then she was pregnant. From then on, it was memories of helping Ann through her days, holding her hair when she puked, being around her and just protecting her. Then she started to show, and things went bad. Sabo frowned as a new memory hit him. "Go east." He said to Ann, who was crying. "Go east, and we will meet up later. I will divert my father. Sabo frowned more. Father? No, stay in the memory. Ann nodded and went in a small boat and sailed off, and he made sure she got out on sea safely, before he went on a bigger boat. As he was on the boat, he moved a hand to his chest and took a locket out, looking at the picture of him and Ann in it, the same Ann had. "Ann, if this fails, Know I love you, and I always will." He then kissed the locket, before he closed it and sailed out and made sure to be spotted. But as he was, he could only stare as the boat to his father had a huge cannon, and before he could react, it fired and his vision filled with fire, before things went black. Then when he opened his eyes, he was on the Revolutionaries' boat.

Sabo opened his eyes, feeling mixed. He didn't have a locket. It must have sank. But he did have something, and moved to open the drawer in his desk, taking a ring out, and he held it in his hands and closed his eyes, letting the memory flood his mind. "I need a ring," said Sabo to a man in a shop, who brought many out, and Sabo searched, before he found the most perfect ring, it had a spade in diamond. Ann always liked spades, she always said if she was a boy, she would have been Ace, and that would mean she could be Ace of Spades. She would love it. He then bought it and put it in his pocket, but when he got out and looked out on the ocean. He always loved the ocean and hoped he could travel, he had a boat ready, as he and Ann needed to leave as fast as they could and Ann was packing. But as he was looking at the sea, he saw a boat in the distance and it's flag was the flag of his father. Fuck, how did he know? They needed to leave, now! He ran and got Ann, and told her to just grab whatever she could, before moving her to a smaller boat, not caring he was stealing it, and sent Ann out with it. As she was just a bit away, he looked at the ring. He would give it to her next time he saw her, when they were safe.

Sabo opened his eyes and looked at the ring. He had always thought it was the ring to his mother or something. Not that he would buy it and give it to someone who was carrying his child. Sabo's jaw tightened as he felt he just made a grave mistake. It was only 4 in the morning, and he would spend the rest trying to remember more. And it was filled with happy memories with Ann.

-x-

Ann moved onto the island, Marco and Izou with her, and she had Luffy in his stroller. They were just looking at things and would try and see if she could find some more clothes for Luffy as he grew so fast. But as they were about to head into a store, a voice behind her made her stop. "Ann," She turned around, recognizing the voice, and was met with Sabo. She then gave a sigh, before she looked at Marco and Izou. "I'll catch up." The two nodded, giving her worried looks as they headed into the store, and she turned around with the stroller to face Sabo. Maybe she could at least give a goodbye, maybe that would help. She was about to speak, when Sabo did. "I- I remember you." Ann blinked. "What?" Sabo nodded. "I had a locket, like yours, with our picture. I stole a boat and sent you out alone to escape, so my father wouldn't take us or the baby." Ann blinked, he remembered all that? Sabo took a breath. "I remember we were happy. We were so happy to have a child." Ann felt her eyes grow teary. Why was Sabo doing this?

Sabo then moved his hand to his pocket, and took something small out, and showed a ring, a ring with a diamond spade. "You've always loved spades, you wanted to be Ace of Spades if you were male. I bought this for you on that day, while you were packing. I bought this for you, and only you." Sabo took a deep breath. "Would you take it, and me back? I know I messed up yesterday, but now I know. I know that I loved you, and I want to fall back in love with you." Ann moved a hand to her mouth as she felt tears fall down her face, a sob leaving her. "Mommy! Mommy!" Ann gave a laugh mixed with a sob as she took Luffy up from the stroller. "Yes, I know you hate it when I cry." She said as she used the hand that wasn't holding Luffy to dry her tears.

Sabo then moved to hug her, and she took a shuddering breath. "I'd forgotten how it feels to hug you. I've missed it so much." Sabo nodded. "I want to save this feeling, I want to remember how it feels to hug you, I want new memories with you. I want you." They then parted, and Sabo looked at Luffy. "Can I… hold him?" Ann gave a small nod, using a few seconds to think, before she carefully handed Luffy to Sabo, Luffy looking at him with big eyes. Luffy wasn't fond of new people. Sabo smiled at the baby. "Hi, Luffy. I chose your name, did you know that? I wanted a little Luffy, and now, I have it." Ann brought the hand back to her mouth as she felt so emotional, she felt everything at once. Sabo remembered her and Luffy. That was all she had even wanted, to be with Sabo again.

Luffy then blinked, before he moved and laid his head on Sabo's chest, which had Ann blink. Luffy had never done that before, besides to her. Before she could react to it, Luffy moved himself back up and brought his hands out to her. "Mommy!" Ann nodded and grabbed her child, and Sabo smiled. "I know I've been gone a long time, and I was so hurtful yesterday, so I get it if you hate me. but I want to be with you." Ann shook her head as she sniffled. "No no, I could never stay mad at you. I love you. I always have and always will." Sabo nodded. "And I think I do too, I want to remember my feelings, I want to be with you, fall back in love, with you, and Luffy." Ann nodded and she moved and hugged Sabo again. Sabo always gave such good hugs.

Things had worked out well.

And that's the one shit, hope you enjoyed
