Prologue
December 14, 1983 – Wednesday
Bay Area Hospital, San Francisco
Penny Halliwell stood on the right of her granddaughter holding her hand as Prue Halliwell screamed at the top of her lungs. After yet another contraction, Prue turned to her grandmother. "Grams, please make it stop," she begged with tears cascading down her cheeks.
"I wish I could, Prue, but you said that you wanted to have natural child birth."
"It's ok, Prue, I see the head, one more big push," the doctor told her.
Figuratively squeezing the blood out of her grandmother's hands, she pushed and pushed.
"It's a girl," said Doctor Karen Channing.
Once the baby girl was wrapped in a blanket, the nurses handed her to her mother. Tears immediately began to flood both grandmother and granddaughters' eyes at the sight of the baby. Looking at daughter son, Prue said, "You look just like your daddy, little one."
"She will be a heartbreaker, Prue," Grams stated with a chuckle.
"She will," Prue agreed. She knew with her mother's death five years before that she had slowly taken up the duty of helping her grandmother to raise her sisters. She now understood that responsibility had prepared her for the day she would give birth to her own daughter.
"So, Prue," Grams said looking at her great granddaughter. "What do you plan to name her?"
Prue thought about it for a moment and then smiled. "Patricia Andrea Tru…"
"Halliwell," Grams corrected. "Women in our family keep our last names. It's been that way since I married your grandfather. Just as P names have always been…"
"Okay, Grams," Prue agreed. "Patricia Andrea Halliwell." She smiled at her daughter. "Andy will still be listed as her father though."
December 14, 1985 - Saturday
Halliwell Manor, San Francisco
"Mrs. Halliwell, your great granddaughter is destined to fight …"
"I don't care what you believe, sir," said Grams. "You are not laying one hand on her. Now if you would kindly leave my home before I call the police."
The men looked at each and nodded as they left the house. There were other ways to get the Potential from the home.
"We may have to take her by force," said Carl Callaghan an hour later as they watched the Manor from down the block. "But first we should report in to the Council."
"Agreed," said the other.
Watcher's Council Headquarters, London England
"Their sure of these findings?" asked Quentin Travers, Head of the Watcher's Council, as he was given the latest report from one of his field operatives.
"I had it verified the moment it arrived," replied his personal assistant, "Our team in the U.S. has found another potential. They have already tried standard routes of removal, but…"
"Very good," commented Travers, "Mr. Callaghan's report requests an immediate extraction of the girl due to the failed negotiations. Is there any cause for alarm?"
"Apparently," said the assistant, "The great grandmother was reported as a witch. And that her granddaughters are reportedly the ones that the witch Melinda Warren foretold about in 1692...the Charmed Ones. Which means..."
"Magic may be in her blood," Travers noted as he laid his eyes on that part of the report. "Well, that simply won't do. We cannot have a potential corrupted by the likes of them."
"But aren't the field watchers trained in magic?" the assistant questioned Travers' comment.
"Yes, but if this girl becomes the Vampire Slayer and she knows of the Wiccan arts," Travers commented as he stood from his desk, "then it would be impossible for us to control her. A weapon is of no use to us if it cannot be wielded."
Halliwell Manor
Outside the Manor Callaghan watched as one by one the lights went out. "We are going to need to cloak ourselves so the old woman doesn't see us and doesn't know that we took her great granddaughter till long after we're gone."
"Once we get her to the safe house," Thomas Lehane said. "Then we will need to cloak her so that any locator spells and scrying magic will fail to work."
"Agreed," Callaghan replied. "Let's get her." After casting the spell that would cloak them from Grams and Prue's sight. After magically unlocking the front door they made their way into the Manor and upstairs. They found the two-year-old infant in her crib and quietly they stole her into the night.
January 16, 2001 – Tuesday
Sunnydale High School, Sunnydale
"Faith saved you?" Giles asked as he ended to the wounds Buffy had received when she had found Faith at the docks. She and her friends had went looking for the brunette Slayer after the Watcher's Council had tried to take her to England and failed. Buffy had been the one to find her. She had talked to Faith and discovered a truth, that Faith had been adopted.
"She could have left me there to die, Giles," Buffy told him. "But she didn't."
"And the fact that she opted to come …" Giles said excitedly.
"She didn't come back," Buffy interrupted. "She wanted me to give you this." She handed him an envelope that contained a letter that Faith had written explaining everything and where Faith was going now.
Giles slowly opened the envelope and read it, his eyes going wide as he did so.
Hey G-Man,
When I stole the truck, the Watchers were using to take me to the airport, I found a folder on me. It told that I had been adopted by the Lehanes after being relocated by the Council when I was but a baby, it seems my adopted father had been a Watcher until his death. It seems my birth mom and dad gave me up and left me at a hospital in San Francisco. I'm going to find them.
And maybe when I have, I will be able with their help to put this all behind me. I know that the Council very likely has covered up my crimes. So, no one should be looking for me, but I also know at least with you all and especially with B, I have things to answer for, wrongs to right.
Once I have found them, then maybe, just maybe I can become the person you all hoped I would have been. The only lead I have is my original birth certificate, which was in the folder. According to it my parents were Prue Halliwell and Andy Trudeau.
For now, this is goodbye.
Patricia 'Faith' Andrea Halliwell
"How did she appear when she left you?" Giles asked.
"I watched as she wrote the letter," Buffy said thinking about Faith. She hoped that Faith would find everything she deserved in San Francisco. "She also told me about the birth certificate. She seemed sincere about wanting to redeem herself and truly felt that finding her real family would do that. I hope she succeeds, I know from what clues we have that she didn't have a good family in Boston, so I know she needs this. She needs a family like mine, a family that loves her."

The sun rose in fiery line, lighting up the sky, showing Faith the way forward. It was hard to think clearly, to think at all. The rumble of the engine was humming along in the background as chatter rose around her. The road stretched out in front of her. It symbolized the future—the bright, rosy future that she had in front of her. A future with a family that loved her.
