The next day, Ginny went to tell Luna about the cheerleading team, asking her if she'd like to tryout while Parvati gave a poster to her sister so that she could put it up in their common room.
"Rose, where are you going?" Harry asked his twin sister when he saw her walking past their table in the Great Hall.
"I have to speak with one of the Slytherin Prefects, I'll be right back." She replied.
"What? Why?" he asked.
"I'll be fine, don't worry." She smiled kindly before she walked past him, feeling on her back not only Harry's but also Fred's eyes.
"Draco, can I speak to you for a moment, please?" Rose asked, seeing that the female prefect wasn't present that morning.
"What do you want?" he asked her, surprised by her kind tone, as he stood up and joined her to the side so they could talk.
He had speaking to her in a perfectly polite tone, which she wasn't expecting but was pleased to get.
"I… Professor McGonagall allowed me to start a new club, a cheerleading team. She said we could branch out to the other houses if we wanted. We already have a few Ravenclaws and Huffelpuffs who'd like to join and I figured it was only fair to extend the invitation to your house as well. I've prepared a little poster… If you could put it up in your common room, I'd be grateful. If we have enough students, we could make two teams so that both teams at each game could be cheered on, or even a team for each house if we really have enough people interested." Rose explained.
"And if you don't have enough people to make several teams, what will happen? You'll only cheer on your house?" he asked her.
"No, of course not. I mean, if we don't have any Slytherin in the club, of course we won't cheer on your team, but if we do, we'll separate in two for each games. We'll always find a solution. The only way we'd only cheer on Gryffindor is if we only had Gryffindor members." Rose replied with a smile.
"Why are you being so nice?" He asked her, taking the poster she was holding out for him to look at it.
"You haven't done anything to me yet, and I believe that because your parents aren't the best people and decided to follow the wrong man, it doesn't mean you have to be guilty of anything. Not yet anyway. The choices we make today could change our lives forever tomorrow. I chose to give people a chance." She replied.
"It's more than your brother ever did." Draco frowned a little.
"I know about the handshake he refused on the train that first time you came here, but it was kind of your fault." She replied, shaking her head.
"How so?"
"You were the first boy from the wizarding world he spoke to and the first thing you did was insult Hagrid, who was the first person in his life to be nice to him. Then he met Ron and his family, who were nice to him and helped him before they even knew who he was and once again you insulted him. You didn't give him the best image. First impression is kind of important." Rose explained.
"How do you know all of this?" He asked her, confused.
"I might not have been with my brother as he grew up, but every night, we saw each other in our dreams, we could tell each other everything and we did. I know him as well as I know myself." She replied.
"And you really believe that it's not too late for me to change? To follow a different path than my parents?"
"Of course. When there is a will, there is a way." She nodded.
"You're wrong. You don't know Him. He'd kill my mother." Draco shook his head.
"There are ways to protect her, people that can put her in a safe house. People that could protect her if she asked." She had spoken in a smaller voice, making sure nobody else would hear what she had told him.
As she said this, Rose turned to look at Sirius and Dumbledore, who were watching her curiously, wondering what was being said.
"You mean Black? Because he's her cousin?"
"And Dumbledore, because that's the kind of man he is. Your mother still has another sister, even though she's ignored her for the past decades. You still have time, Draco, your fate isn't sealed and you can still change things, not only for yourself, but for a lot of people. The first step would be to post this in your common room." She smiled at him and, surprising everyone in the Great Hall, Draco laughed out loud.
It wasn't a mocking laugh, but a true, amused one. A laughter that didn't hide any animosity or bad feeling, it was a true laugh and everyone in the Great hall was now watching them curiously. What was going on? Surely Harry Potter's twin sister wasn't flirting with Draco Malfoy, was she?
"You're going to make me think your speech about changing was just so I'd put this up for you." He chuckled.
"Think about it." She told him before she turned around and went back to sit by Lavender.
"Will he do it?" Hermione asked.
"Yes, he will." She nodded.
"What was that? Why did he laugh?" Fred asked her with a frown.
"Because I'm just that hilarious." Rose replied with a mysterious smile.
Fred smiled back at her but decided to keep an eye on Draco Malfoy. Maybe his rivals wouldn't all be in Gryffindor tower after all.
"He wasn't rude or insulting, was he?" Harry asked his sister.
"He wasn't, don't worry. I was perfectly polite and nice, and he returned it. People tend to mirror the way you treat them. If you're hostile, they'll be hostile, if you're nice, they'll be nice." She told her brother.
A few minutes later, Sirius left his seat and, on his way to his class, asked them:
"You kids okay?" He was speaking to Harry and Rose, everyone knew it.
"Everything's fine, Sirius." Rose replied with a bright smile.
"Really?" Sirius asked again, looking at Harry who nodded.
"Alright, see you guys in class later. Until then, don't do anything I wouldn't do." Sirius nodded and left, making them chuckled because, let's face it, what wouldn't he have done back when he was a student?
Do you think Draco will change or not?
