The city of Mitras didn't take long to be taken over. Coming from the south, the forces loyal to the government managed a breakthrough in the scouts' defence lines, and soon, they were marching right towards the palace.
Of course, Frieda could've just mind controlled them to stop resisting. Yet, a much better plan had formulated in her head, before this confrontation.
The scouts would make a perfect example for anyone who wished to ever oppose her in the future. Violent disposal of their leaders, as well as several higher ranked officers would be the perfect way for her to handle this situation.
There was only one doubt within her mind.
No one could tell her where exactly Kenny was. All of the MPs they've managed to liberate so far, didn't know anything about the whereabouts of the old Ackerman. Normally, it wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary, yet something within Frieda's mind kept screaming at her, every time the thought of Kenny appeared.
Nevertheless, they finally made it to the large open area, just in front of the royal palace.
As the troops started asserting their positions, Frieda looked over all the defences the scouts managed to erect during the two days of her absence. A makeshift palisade was placed on their lines, and the scouts themselves were most likely hiding over the barricades they placed directly behind the palisade.
Storming this line of defence could possibly prove difficult to the royal forces.
"Your majesty" one of her officers asked suddenly "should we attack?"
"No" she simply responded "let me talk to them, first…"
Upon saying that, she walked forward, leaving the MP ranks behind.
As the queen was walking, she noticed that in the windows to the buildings adjacent to the huge square, curious faces of the onlookers could be seen.
'Great' Frieda thought, before turning to look forward, yet again 'what is a show, if not for an audience to be seen?'
"Erwin Smith!" She shouted loudly, when she was standing in the exact centre of the open area "it's high time we talked!"
Some commotion could be seen among the barricades. People were shuffling around nervously, yet there was pattern to their behaviour. Frieda figured that they were going to their designated positions.
Finally, she could see a silhouette of one Erwin Smith, emerging from behind the palisade.
Instantly, the riflemen from her side pointed their guns towards the man. The commander momentarily stopped, wondering if he had made a grave mistake.
Annoyed by this, Frieda raised her right hand, and just like that, the MPs lowered their guns.
"Let's negotiate!" Erwin shouted back, mustering up all of his charisma.
The proposal was pretty much laughable.
"The time for negotiations had ended, once you've decided to storm the capital!" The queen yelled "I can't possibly imagine that you could possess anything that would make me reconsider my decision!"
Trying to get information on how much he already knew was her main objective during this little talk. Of course, top secret documents were laying around in her office, yet Frieda doubted that the scouts would be suspicious enough to actually try and go through them.
And just as she thought of that, her worries came true.
"We know everything!" Erwin yelled back "we know the truth about titans! We know about the lies you've been telling us, and we know about the outside world!"
For a split second, the thought of people finding out frightened her. It could possibly hinder her plans in the long run. Right now, she needed a complete control over the island, before making any drastic changes. After all, she didn't have enough sway on the continent, just yet.
"The information from the documents we found in your office had been sent to every news outlet, editorial office and local journalist across the northern regions!" Erwin shouted with conviction "if you don't want the people to find out the whole truth by tomorrow morning, I advise you to negotiate with us!"
The commander was apparently way smarter than he seemed. From what she could gather, he understood the implications that the truth would inflict upon the population of the walls.
"If you know everything…!" The queen yelled again "…then you must be aware that only I can save us!"
That statement wasn't even bold. Many people believed it to be the truth, and while some would argue, the blonde commander didn't really strike her as one who didn't care about his people.
"That may be true!" Erwin exclaimed at the top of his lungs "hence I hope that we could strike a bargain!"
Frieda Reiss just chuckled at that. Of all people, she didn't expect the scouts' commander to be such an improper optimist.
"Like I've said!" The queen shouted "your actions are treason against the government and the people of the walls! I will not stand…"
"FRIEDA!"
The shout made the two of them look towards the left side of the empty field.
Suddenly, the queen's expression changed from one of confidence to that of shock.
On the very left end of the square, stood Historia, Ymir and Eren, accompanied by three others.
"I KNOW WHAT YOU DID TO EREN!"
Those words sank deep into her. The queen looked over to the boy in question. Even though they were pretty far away, the female could still see the hurt and disgust he held within his eyes.
That sole thing disheartened the queen. Why was it that when she took the only thing she couldn't have, her sole desire, everything went to pieces. Right now, Frieda could only stare at the group with wide eyes.
"Oh yeah!" Kenny Ackerman, who she had just noticed, exclaimed with excitement "Ackermans and the gang, to the rescue!"
"Shut up, will you?" Levi sneered at him.
But Frieda couldn't register their little argument. The fact that her right-hand man, turned out to be a traitor didn't really bother her as much. The only thing that was occupying her mind at the moment, was the hateful expression that her dear little sister was giving her.
"Historia…" she exclaimed weakly.
"I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!" The words of her only family tore into her "WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO SAY, DOESN'T MATTER! WHY DON'T YOU JUST SURRENDER ALREADY?!"
Something within the young queen broke in this very moment. Rebellion, she could handle. Traitors, she could punish. Ordinary people, she could rid of any memory she desired. But this… This was something else…
Seeing Eren look at her, the way he was looking at her right now, was enough by itself. That brave, beautiful boy that Frieda grew to admire was now looking at her like she was some kind of criminal…
But her sister…
At the moment, Historia was projecting an aura of anger around her. Seeping with rage, breathing heavily, she was staring at Frieda, with the vilest of intentions.
The queen simply couldn't stand it any longer, so she just closed her eyes.
This was her moment of truth. Her test, to see if she was ready to become a true god. All of the world was against her. But it is always like this, when you are a god.
Frieda had finally made her decision.
"I will show you…" the queen exclaimed, bringing a hand up to her mouth "that no matter what stands in my way… I always come out on top…"
And she bit into her hand, hard.
Once again, the familiar rush of energy exploded from her spot. Titan flesh was forming in seconds and a cloud of smoke engulfed her surroundings.
When the transformation was complete, she looked up to see the rest of the battlefield. The MPs were staring in wonder, Erwin was looking at her in surprise, and she could swear that several shocked rebels were leaning out from behind the barricades, to watch the strange phenomenon.
And then, she heard three other, similar explosions, just to her left.
With a shock, she turned to face the spot that her closest people were occupying, just moments ago.
But instead of people, she only saw three titans, standing in the clouds of smoke.
The armoured…
The female…
And the jaw…
And then, all three of them lunged at her…
