Hi Everyone,

This is my first fanfic story. It's about my favourite grey's character, Amelia and her relationship with Owen.

I don't think Shonda really gave them a proper chance and I think they could've had a great future...

I've borrowed some dialogue in the first few chapters, because it was pure brilliance, but the rest will be mine,.

Please like/comment so I know you want more!

Set season 7, episode 3 where Amelia visits Derek after his shooting.

After an emotional visit to Seattle to see her brother Derek, post shooting. Amelia walked out of the front of Seattle Grace Hospital.

Amelia knew she shouldn't have expected anything less. Derek was always like this with her, overprotective, overbearing, unable to recognise that she might just be capable of anything. As infuriating as it was, he was still her big brother. The one who practically raised her. She still completely idolised him, although she would never him know it.

In true Seattle fashion, the rain was drizzling on the mild autumn evening. Looking up, trying to locate the rental car she had hired from the airport, Amelia saw her brother sitting there on the bonnet of the car waiting for her. Unsure of what it was he was waiting to yell at her about this time and still slightly annoyed from the arguments they had had earlier in the scrub room and then the OR, Amelia's shoulders sagged in resignation as she sighed.

"Don't worry, I'm leaving the premises." She stated in a clipped tone.

"We were in the back of the store" Derek started

Amelia knew where this was going. Their conversation in the scrub room. Their father, Christopher Shepherds death. Her heart clenched in her chest as she listened to her brother speak.

"Dad had just given you two pennies. You always hid them behind the counter in this big crack in the floorboards. You said you were saving them so you could buy a town."

He scoffed slightly and she finally looked up to meet her brothers eyes, her own filled with unshed tears of broken memories, Derek continued.

"And then two guys came in, we could hear them talking but you weren't paying attention until dad yelled. You looked up. They had already pulled the gun, they had already taken the money but now they wanted the watch that mom gave him."

Amelia let out a breath she didn't know she was holding, waiting for Derek to recreate the images she had blocked out so long ago.

Derek pursed his lips, struggling to find the words to describe the beginning of the end of Amelia's innocence.

"He wouldn't give it up. There was a gunshot. You… You lunged forward…"

"I remember" Amelia interrupted, her voice thick with emotion. "I was trying to get to him. But I couldn't move." As tears falling freely from her big blue eyes Derek explained

"That's because I was holding you so tight that you couldn't budge."

The shepherd siblings looked at each other, the realisation hitting Amelia of Derek's overbearing need to want to look after her.

Moving to take a seat on the bonnet beside her brother, Derek continued.

"I put one hand over your mouth so you wouldn't scream and wrapped the other one around you and just held on for dear life. I prayed to god that you'd be quiet and you wouldn't say anything." His voice softening "you were so little. I think that's what I've always wanted all these years. Is you just to stay… little… and quiet and safe. But you're not any of those things. You're loud and fearless and it scares the crap out of me."

The siblings looked at each other and smiled. "How am I supposed to call you up and tell you that I've been shot?! I can't tell you about my pain. I don't want you to know that pain exists."

Wrapping his arm around his younger sister as she leaned in, resting her head upon his shoulder. Both painstakingly aware of how much pain she had already endured in her life. They stayed that way for about half an hour until they were interrupted by a voice that was familiar to Derek.

"Hey Shepherd, you're alright?"

Amelia and Derek looked up to see the redheaded trauma surgeon before them. A quizzical look on his face.

"Hunt, this is my sister Amelia. She's a Neurosurgeon." Looking at his sister proudly Derek continued "Amy, Owen Hunt. He's head of trauma."

Sitting up straighter to extend her hand, Amelia shook Owens. "Nice to meet you Owen." Her trademark smile beaming across her face

Uncharacteristically of late, Owen found himself smiling back at Amelia. Her grin seemingly infectious. "Likewise, Amelia, anyway I'm here because I got a 911 page so I'd better head in. Derek's told me all about his brilliant brain surgeon little sister, hopefully I'll see you around? We can trade stories on this one" Owen shared as he nodded his head towards Derek before turning to walk into the hospital and prepare for the incoming trauma.

Looking back at her brother Amelia smirked "I'm a brilliant brain surgeon, hey?"

Nudging her as he rolled his eyes "Shut up Amy."
