Chapter 22: 'Bonding Time'

"Tweeky just left."

Luke gets no response. He repeats his statement but in a louder voice, saying the same thing over and over until Kyle finally shows signs of waking up.

"What the hell do you want?" Kyle demands irritably.

"Sorry to disrupt your beauty sleep, but like I've been saying for the past minute, Tweeky just left."

Kyle blinks his eyes drowsily, then sits up rubbing his eyes. He looks over at the alarm clock, his vision focusing to clearly see the time. Frowning that it's past midnight, and that the plastic cup is gone.

He removes the sheets that slid down to his lap, and swings his legs over the edge of his bed, his feet slipping into his bedroom slippers. He trudges out of the room stifling a yawn, he's not worried about waking Kenny because he sleeps like a log. No amount of loud sounds can disturb his slumber so it's always been up to Kyle to wake him up for their classes.

Kyle opens the door a little, peeking his head out to check and see if there's any teachers walking along this hallway. Fortunately, that isn't the case otherwise they would've long since been knocking at their door. Any students caught out in the halls past midnight, no matter the reason, will be punished. But not just that individual alone, even their roommates will suffer the consequences.

Knowing that the coast is clear, Kyle walks out into the hallway, hating having to be out past curfew.

"Tweeky's heading towards the courtyard," Luke informs.

Kyle furrows his eyebrows, expressing his doubt. "How do you know?"

"..."

Shoving his skepticism aside, Kyle decides to do just that. He at first suspected Tweek had left to go to the teachers lounge to warm up his drink, it's always left unlocked for the teachers that patrolled the big building. However, Luke sounded very certain that Tweek wasn't going there, despite not elaborating on how he knew. He'd better not be lying just to lead Kyle astray or he will never trust him again.

"Why aren't you teleporting there? It'll save you the trouble of running into a teacher," Luke advises when Kyle stops at the end of the hallway. He peeks from behind the corner, once again relieved that there's not a teacher in sight in the next hall.

"You said he was going towards the courtyard, not that he's there," Kyle replies back, resuming his walk. "I'm trying to spot him before he makes it there."

However, he has no such luck coming across the spiky-haired blonde after walking along two more hallways, Luke commenting at how lax these teachers are at patrolling.

Kyle nears a pair of black doors on the upper left side of a short corridor he strolls into, at the end is a dead end. He carefully pushes one of the doors forward, there may not be any teachers around, but he doesn't want to risk alerting them within this deathly quiet building. He is immediately greeted by the cool night air, and it feels refreshing. He steps outside allowing the breeze to close the door for him. Just as the door was quietly opened it, shuts in a similar fashion. The moon is shining eerily brightly through the cluster of grey clouds.

Lime-green eyes scan the courtyard for spiky and pale blonde hair as the owner of the orbs step out from under the breezeway, spotting the teen sat on one of the benches with his attention up to the sky, his cup held in both hands over his lap. Kyle silently approaches him, saying nothing even as he sits down next to Tweek. He also gazes up at the moon and clouds.

A few minutes pass in continued silence. Some crickets eventually start chirping, creating peaceful background noise.

"Are you gonna say something to him or just sit here?" Luke inquires impatiently. "He obviously hasn't noticed you yet."

Kyle lowers his attention over to Tweek, who is still unaware of his presence just as his twin pointed out. Tweek appears so deeply in thought, a woeful frown on his pale face. "Got a lot on your mind?"

"Oh Jesus!" Tweek shouts, startled upon hearing Kyle's voice right next to him. His wide eyes meet the redhead's own, but he quickly looks away, abashed. "H-how long have you been here?"

Kyle stifles a laugh at his reaction while Luke outright goes into hysterics inside his head. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I got here three minutes ago."

"O-oh," Tweek says, still embarrassed. He loosens his tight grip on the cup, glad he didn't squeeze it too hard in his brief state of panic.

"Did you like the coffee?" Kyle asks.

...Coffee? Pulling the lid off, Tweek looks down into the cup seeing his reflection through the chocolate brown liquid, and the glint of the moonlight. It's candid aroma instantly percolates the air and enters both vampires' noses, Tweek practically drooling at the smell. "I didn't even know this was coffee," Tweek says softly in disbelief, plus he thought vampires couldn't consume the caffeinated drink. He thought it was just blood all this time. Without wasting another second, he drinks it all up. Once he realizes there's nothing left, he's a greatly disappointed. His thirst may have been quenched, but he still wants more.

"You can have another one in the morning," Kyle tells him.

Tweek perks up at that, then remembers that he needs to thank Kyle for getting him his favorite beverage. He once again locks eyes with the redhead, giving him a grateful smile as some strands of his hair blows in his face due to the tender wind current. "Thank you."

Kyle is momentarily disconcerted. He smiles back as he sticks out a hand to push the pale blonde strands out from Tweek's face. "You're welcome." Both boys blush in that instant, Kyle quickly retracting his hand away, then standing up from the bench. "W-we need to hurry back to our room."

"Whoa, what's the rush?" Kyle looks towards the direction he heard the sudden voice come from, glaring at the figure stood in the breezeway. Why didn't Luke warn him that someone else was here with them? Tweek still appears to be in a confounded daze. Walking out into the courtyard is a vampire with blonde hair and pure black eyes. His night clothes consist of a black tank top and matching colored sweatpants, on his feet are a pair of grey bedroom shoes with a white skull on each. "There ain't no teachers around to ruin you guys' bonding time out here."

"What are you doing out here, Trent?" Kyle practically hisses.

"I don't think that's any of your business, 'Former President'," Trent Boyett retorts.

Kyle hardens his glare. It didn't take long for news to spread that Kyle had lost his role as President of the Student Council Committee, the absence of his armband was a dead giveaway. "President or not, I'm still a member of the Student Council Committee."

Trent rolls his eyes. "Yeah, good for you. Anyway, I didn't come out here to talk you, I got business with the other guy."

Whatever 'business' he has with Tweek Kyle knows it's not anything good, he's just as troublesome as Craig and his lovers. He turns around gently grabbing Tweek's wrist, the coldness of his palm makes Tweek flinch. He notices Kyle standing and wanting him to do the same. "Let's go."

"Don't you dare," Trent growls, losing his patience. He points at Kyle. "You can leave," then he points at Tweek. "But he stays."

Tweek's blue-green eyes blink at the newcomer as he stands up, he feels he's seen him before. He directs his attention down at his hand when he feels Kyle tighten his grip around his wrist.

"Let me kill 'em, he's getting fucking annoying," Luke says angrily.

"You're crazy if you think we'll listen to you."

"You bastard-" is all Trent is able to utter out before Kyle and Tweek disappear. He glares at the pair of dark fog as they begin to instantly fade away, but then he smirks. Remembering that he'll see them again in Gym.

His expression now calm, he stuffs his hands into his pants pockets and leaves the courtyard, walking back to his shared bedroom.

...

...

Back in their room, neither Kyle nor Tweek say a word. It soon becomes way too awkward for Tweek to handle so he musters up the courage to break the silence.

"Um-" He quickly covers his mouth after realizing that Kenny is still asleep.

"You don't have to worry about waking him up." Kyle releases his wrist before facing him. "He's a heavy sleeper."

Tweek lowers his hand finding it a bit hard to believe since Kyle always wakes Kenny up pretty easily, but doesn't question it. Instead, he asks about the guy they just met. He'd zoned out after...a short flashback of Kyle moving his hair out of his face, smiling sweetly as he did so, flashes in his mind. He blushes again, missing most of Kyle's reply to his question.

"Are you okay?" Kyle asks noticing Tweek's blushing face.

Ah crap, for a spilt second Tweek forgot that they can see each other in the darkness. The heat in his cheeks increase, and he averts his eyes to the floor. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. W-what were you saying again?"

Kyle frowns confusedly at the avoidance of eye contact. He repeats his response just as he hears Luke mumble something. "What did you say?" He asks, still telling Tweek about Trent Boyett.

"...I think Tweeky has feelings for you..." Kyle pauses, developing an incredulous look on his face. "Look! He's still blushing!"

And Luke is right, although the redness in Tweek's cheeks have faded some. Kyle deepens his frown, now concerned. "Maybe he's sick."

"He's clearly not."

"Tweek, are you sure you're okay?" Kyle asks again, a bit more sternly.

Tweek hates that he's worrying Kyle for what feels like the third time, he's not entirely okay, but he just can't say that it's his fault for reducing him to a blushing mess, can he? With a deep breath to soothe his nerves and hopefully rid away the blush in his cheeks, Tweek looks into Kyle's trouble-filled eyes. "I am. I'm just glad to have finally drunken some coffee."

Kyle blinks in slight shock. Luke groans in disbelief. "Oh. I didn't think you would like it that much." Guess he was really thirsty.

Tweek can't help but feel embarrassed all over again as he scratches the back of his head, looking at the floor. "Ah well, I just really love coffee." He recalls being called a coffee-addict back at high school in South Park. "But was there anything special you put into the coffee you got me?" He wonders returning his gaze to Kyle. He'll never forget how delicious it tasted.

Kyle shakes his head. "No, not really. I only added-"

"Ugh, are you guys seriously having a conversation in the middle of the night?" Kenny's groggy voice interjects. "And about coffee of all things?"

Kyle and Tweek look over at their roommate, who's now sitting up in his bed yawning while scratching his ruffled hair. "So what if we are?" Kyle counter-asks with a teasing grin. "You and I have had nonsensical conversations this late before too, quite often in fact."

"Yeah, cuz you always use big words, ya nerd," Kenny says, a lazy smile on his face. They share a laugh. "Well, you guys can continue your coffee talk. I'm goin' back to sleep," Kenny says laying back down on his side, pulling the covers up to his shoulder.

"We should do the same," Kyle tells Tweek. However, neither of them are tired, for different reasons: Kyle wants to continue conversing with Tweek while Tweek is wide awake thanks to the coffee he drank. He really wants another cup of it. They begrudgingly bid each other goodnight, and head towards their respective beds. Tweek glimpses at the time, it's 1:06 a.m.

"You sometimes make me wonder how you can be smart when it comes to anything but reading people."

Since Kyle can't visibly glare at his twin, he's left directing it at the ceiling. "Says the guy who thought Tweek suddenly began to have feelings for me." He shakes his head at the absurdity of it.

"...Whatever." And the topic ends there.

While Kyle eventually drifts off to sleep, Tweek is left feeling very bored. Luke takes this opportunity to keep Tweek preoccupied with random conversations until morning, irregardless if he wants to talk to him or not.
