I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys Badger here. I'm glad to see you guys enjoyed the previous chapter of Osiris Rising. A few more people even guessed who Harry's mother is and one or two got it right, but I won't say who.
Now, before we begin. The other day I posted the first chapter for Trail of a Killer, a Sherlock vs Jack the Ripper story. If it sounds interesting to you, you should find it on my profile story list. I also have more stories planned after this chapter is published. I have a Wrong Boy-Who-Lived story called Ace and Lightning, a James Badger and Female Harry Potter pairing story called Comforting the Broken, a Skyrim story, a sequel to A different Hogwarts experience and a trilogy of Fanfic stories based on George Lucas' original plans for the Sequel Trilogy before selling Star Wars to Disney. If any of those intrigue you, keep an eye out for them.
That is all, read on and I'll see you at the end.
Chapter 3
Harry sat in his room, reading through the letter his mother had sent. The letter had arrived during breakfast and students mail arrived by owl. Not wanting anyone to read over his shoulder, Harry excused himself so he could read the letter privately. It has been a few days since he sent his letter and he was glad to receive a response;
Hello Harry,
I am glad to hear that you are well. Though I am not glad to hear that the nobility of Slytherin House has continued to fall even further since I graduated. Salazar himself will be most displeased. I'm sure you will be able to make it the respected House it once was. And I must applaud you for what you did to those two trouble makers. I agree, you were quite restrained, but I am glad to see my lessons, before you left for Kings Cross weren't a waste. I plan to teach you more complex spells when you return for the Christmas Holidays.
I look forward to hearing future updates. And please, if you do torture somebody, make sure you tell me all about it, without leaving out any details.
Mother
Harry smiled slightly, as finished reading, gently spinning a coin on the desk. He could feel Mothers displeasure just by reading the words on the parchment. Harry had learnt, pretty quickly, that Mother being displeased was a lot worse then Mother being angry. When she was displeased, you never knew what she was going to do. Until she done it. Thankfully, Harry hasn't displeased her yet and, after seeing the state of some people that had, he didn't want to displease her any time soon. Putting the letter back in its envelope, Harry stood up and straightened his robes, before leaving the dorm. Breakfast was just about to end and Harry didn't want to be late for his first lesson of the day.
…
Dumbledore stood outside of a pair of double doors, setting up the necessary locking charms, so no one would accidentally walk in. The traps guarding the Stone had been set up, now he just needed to play the waiting game. Dumbledore didn't know when Quirrell would try to get the Stone for Voldemort, but hopefully Dumbledore would be able to leave hints for Harry, so he can eventually find the Stone and stop Quirrell. Dumbledore had also taken the liberty to have the Mirror of Erised brought into Hogwarts and hidden away. Should the boy find it, it should help Dumbledore see what makes the boy tick, what he desires most. Whilst Dumbledore was almost certain the boy would see his parents, one could never be too sure. Hopefully whatever Harry sees in the Mirror will set Harry down the path of the Light.
…
Harry and the rest of the Slytherins stood with the Gryffindors, for their first flying lesson, a broom lying in front of each student. Harry, personally, wasn't a fan of flying. It wasn't his thing. However, because classes were mandatory for First Years, he had no choice but to attend. After a couple of minutes, Madam Hooch, the flying instructor, appeared.
"Good morning students" She said "welcome to your first flying lesson…I must ask that you pay close attention, the last thing we want is for someone to be badly injured…now, make sure you are standing on the left side of your broom, hold out your right arm and say 'up', the lesson will continue when you've finished, now get going"
Each and every student immediately held out their hand and said 'up' in unison. Harry's immediately flew into his hand with elegant grace, with James' broom following shortly after. As the seconds passed, more and more brooms slowly made their way into the students hands, whilst others struggled to get them off the ground. Hermione Granger, in particular, was talking in the same tone a tired mother would speak to their misbehaving child. Ron Weasleys broom, on the other hand, flew up and hit him in the face, causing the others to laugh, whilst Harry just smirked.
"Good" Madam Hooch said, when everyone had their brooms in hand "now that you have your brooms, I want you to mount it, make sure you grip it tight, otherwise you'll slip and fall off…then, I want you to gently kick off of the ground, hover for a moment, lean forward and then touch back down…"
As Madam Hooch spoke, Harry noticed a figure wearing a black cloak, lurking and peaking round the corner of the castle walls. Discreetly, Harry took out his wand and placed a small protective charm, that Mother had taught him, just in case. Better to be safe than sorry.
"On my whistle…" Hooch continued "One, two, three…"
As Madam Hooch blew her whistle, Neville Longbottom's broom immediately began to rise into the air, before flying off uncontrollably, yelling for help. Madam Hooch had removed her wand and had tried to slow Neville down, but the boy was too fast and Neville's robes was soon caught on a statue and he fell to the ground. Madam Hooch immediately ran over and, slowly, helped him up.
"Oh poor boy, it's a broken wrist" she said gently "I am taking Mr Longbottom to the infirmary…I will be back soon, I do not want to come back and see people flying on their brooms…if I do, the person on that broom will be punished accordingly"
As Madam Hooch walked away with Neville, Malfoy picked up a glass ball off of the ground, which Harry remembered to be a Remembrall. There was a bit of commotion this morning, as Neville received the Remembrall in the post, where Neville hadn't figured out, until later, that he forgot his robe. In the corner of his eye, Harry could see the person in the black cloak running away.
"Did you see his face" Malfoy said to his friends "the pathetic lump should have given this a small squeeze…that way he'd remember to fall on his fat arse!"
"Give it to me Malfoy" Harry said, coolly "and don't make me ask again"
Malfoy slowly turned, glaring at Harry, before a small smile made its way, onto his face.
"No, I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find" he said, mounting his broom "like on the roof"
Harry rolled his eyes, as Malfoy flew high up into the air and looked down at him, smirking.
"What's wrong Potter?" He called "A bit beyond your reach?"
Harry shook his head, before removing his wand and pointed it at Malfoy. Concentrating, Harry narrowed his eyes and uttered the words;
"Accio Remembrall"
The Remembrall immediately flew out of Malfoy's hand and not Harry's, which caused Harry's friends and even some Gryffindors to clap and cheer. Malfoy meanwhile, glared at Harry, as he floated back down to the ground. Potter had just embarrassed and humiliated him. Something definitely needed to be done quickly.
…
Snape walked to his desk, as the students entered and sat down in their seats.
"There will be no silly wand waving in this class" he said slowly, as he scanned the room "some of you may think that Potions is an irrelevant aspect of magic, but you are wrong…in this class I could teach you to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses, brew fame and even…put a stopper on death…Potions is a difficult subject to master, though I have no doubt some of you will be able to in the years to come…"
Snape took a moment to wave his wand across a chalkboard, where a list of ingredients and instructions for a potion appeared on the chalkboard.
"Today, you will be making a Cure for Boils" he said, gesturing to the shelves on the side of the classroom "You will find everything you need on the shelves, while your making your potions, I will be going around the classroom and seeing if you are doing everything right…be warned…you need to make sure that you follow the instructions perfectly, even simple potions can have…disastrous results should something go wrong…get to it"
Snape sat at his desk and watched as the students got their ingredients. His gaze lingering on Harry the most. He hadn't stopped thinking about the cold and insane look he had seen in his eyes. He wasn't sure what to make of it then and still didn't now. A part of him wanted to tell Dumbledore, whilst the other part of him wanted to keep quiet about it and keep a closer eye on Harry and see what happens. Besides, they had bigger issues on their hands right now, the Philosopher's Stone being one of them. Snape still thought Dumbledore was mad to remove the Stone from the safest bank in Wizarding Britain and bring it to a school of all places, but Snape had given up questioning Dumbledores motives a long time ago. If anything, Snape thought that Dumbledore was starting to go senile. The old man spends almost, all of his time cooped up in his office, with only a Phoenix and portraits of the previous Headmasters of Hogwarts, it wouldn't surprise Snape if that was the case.
…
At the end of the lesson, Snape was walking through each row of cauldrons, examining every potion, giving points to those that had done well and deducted points from those that hadn't followed the instructions. Ron Weasley had lost 20 points for Gryffindor as instead of a smooth, runny blue liquid, the boy had somehow turned his potion into a thick orange goo. Snape had no idea what the boy had done, but he would have to throw the cauldron away as the goo wouldn't disappear no matter what spell or charm Snape had used to vanish it. Then Snape came up to Harry's potion and was surprised at what he saw. The potion was perfect. Whilst some would argue that the liquid was just a little too runny, Snape saw no problems with the potion in front of him.
"Potter…this potion…it's practically perfect" Snape said "20 points to Slytherin"
"Thank you sir" Harry smiled
When the class was dismissed, whilst the students made their way out of the classroom, Snape sat down at his desk, surprised and confused. As far as Snape knew, no First Year Student had been able to make a perfect potion in their first every Potions lesson. Snape doubted that the boy had any lessons before hand. From what Dumbledore had told him, the boy lived in an Orphanage and, though Potter did know about magic, he hadn't been taught anything regarding magic of the Wizarding World, so there was no way Potter could have made a perfect potion like that. Yes, Snape was definitely going to keep a closer eye on the boy. If the boy did receive lessons before Hogwarts, Snape feared he knew who it was. And that scared him more then anything.
…
A Harry walked into the Common Room, he thought about the day he just had. Whilst monitoring the First Year Slytherins, he also monitored the staff members. At first, he wasn't going to do anything about the Hogwarts staff, but then he wondered if he had any use for them. He had spent today, monitoring them, wondering how loyal they were to Dumbledore. Whilst he wasn't sure about most of them, he knew that McGonagall had a lot of loyalty for the Headmaster. Then there was Snape, whilst he had loyalty to Dumbledore, from the stories he had been told, Snape also had loyalty to Voldemort, acting as a double agent. Harry still wasn't sure what to do about Snape. He'd have to think about it for a bit longer. It was that moment when James pushed Harry away, where, after a second, a spell hit the wall behind him, where Harry then heard someone fall to the floor. He looked to see Malfoy in a body bind, with James standing over him, a foot on Malfoy's chest, wand pointed in between the blondes eyes.
"My, my Malfoy" Harry said "very brave of you…"
"More like foolish" James commented, turning to Arianna "tell me Arianna, did you inherit all the intelligence when you and Draco were born?"
"I admit, he's exactly bright" Arianna replied "mother and father tried to teach him subtlety and how to be sly and sneaky, but the lessons haven't worked"
"So it seems" Harry sniffed "Care to explain yourself Malfoy?"
"You think you're so special Potter!" Malfoy spat, struggling against the binds "strutting around, showing off in classes, acting like you are better then all of us!"
"Who says I'm acting?" Harry asked, a small smile on his face
"We've all had enough of it!" A seventh year said, as he and a bunch of others including Flint and the other Prefect stepped forward "We have had enough and it's time someone put you in your place!"
"And I'm guessing you are the ones to do so?" Harry asked, tilting his head
Sighing, he took out his wand and placed a locking and silencing charm on the entrance to the Common Room. He then turned back to the students who had their wands in hands, whilst others backed away from them.
"To those who don't wish to get involved, back away now, don't want any unnecessary damage" Harry said, before turning to James and his friends "Don't get involved…I'll handle them, now.."
Harry turned to the group of students the emerald of his eyes glowing a sickly green, reminding some of the students of the Killing Curse.
…
"Now, shall we start with the First Years?" Dumbledore asked
He and the other members of staff were sat in his office, starting their meeting. At the start of every term, they would always have a meeting to discuss students of every year after the first week, to see which students were doing well and which needed improvement. They would then have a meeting in the middle of the term and a third near the end of the term, so they can see how the students have progressed over the year. It also helps them make decisions for future Prefects and Head Boys and Girls. For Dumbledore this will also help him see what kind of student Harry is and what his strengths and weaknesses are. Dumbledore wants to start training the boy next year and this meeting should give Dumbledore a rough idea as to what spells he could teach him.
"I'll go first if you don't mind Albus" Professor Sprout said "I must say a few students definitely have a talent for Herbology, Mr Longbottom being one of them, he works really well with plants and I believe he would make an excellent Herbologist or Herbology Professor some day…there are also a few studs who need to work on their behaviour…Mr Malfoy is one of them, he has a tendency to mess around and insult others and then there is Miss Granger, while she is smart and raises her hand, she often yells out the answers not giving others a chance to answer and is something that needs to be taken into account…then there is Mr Potter, an extraordinary boy, I can tell Herbology isn't his strongest subject and that's fine, but that doesn't stop him from working hard and helps his friends when he can"
"Interesting" Dumbledore muttered, stroking his beard
Harry may not be great at Herbology, it didn't really bother Dumbledore. He wasn't planning on training Harry in Herbology anyway, as Voldemort wouldn't try killing him with plants. But it is nice to hear that Harry works hard, even on subjects he isn't good at. That is good.
"I am in agreement" Flitwick spoke up "Miss Granger also tends to give the answers before anyone else, I believe someone should have a word with her…as for the other students, I say the First Years are pretty neck and neck but Miss Greengrass definitely has a talent for the subject and I believe that, with enough motivation Mr Finnegan and Mr Thomas can catch up, but my best student has to be Mr Potter, he has definitely inherited his mothers talent for the subject, for our first lesson I taught them Lumos and Accio, Mr Potter was the first to learn both of them with Mr Badger following suit, Mr Potter then helped his friends with the charms"
"I have a similar agreement" McGonagall spoke up "Mr Potter seems to have also inherited his fathers talent for Transfiguration, turning his matchstick into a perfect needle, whereas others, like Mr Malfoy failed, he also seems to study a lot too, often reading through his course books, he always seems eager to learn"
Dumbledore was pleasantly surprised by that. It made sense for Harry to have talent in Charms and Transfiguration. Before James and Lily Potter were killed, they considered taking their Masters in those very subjects, being two of the best students Hogwarts ever had. Training Harry in Charms and Transfiguration shouldn't be too difficult in that case.
"And what about you Severus?" Dumbledore asked
"It's nice to see there are very few dunderheads this year" Snape replied "Though Mr Weasley needs desperate improvement…I had to throw away a cauldron because I couldn't vanish the pitiful attempt he called a potion…like Filius and Minerva, Mr Potter is definitely one of the better students, I was pleasantly surprised when he made an almost perfect Cure for Boils…I know a hard worker when I see one"
Snape was, of course, under exaggerating everything. The potion was almost perfect. It was completely perfect. After thinking it through, Snape decided not to tell Dumbledore about his fears. For now. He will keep a close eye on the boy, hell make him an apprentice if he needs to, and only tell Dumbledore should something happen. Snape could only hope his fears weren't a reality.
…
"Hmm…disappointing" Harry said, as he looked across the room
The students that tried to 'put him in his place', were all lying on the floor in agony, whilst the rest had kept far away from them. Some had cuts on their hands, others had their collarbones and arms broken and some had their knees shattered. Harry, of course, wasn't in a clean state himself. He had a small cut on his cheek and arm, with boils spreading across his body. Next time he saw Mother, she would need to train him to move quicker when duelling, his movement was far to sloppy at times.
"Disappointing indeed" Harry tutted, healing the cuts on his body, turning to Flint and the other Prefect "I thought you were going to put me in my place…Slytherin has indeed fallen in nobility…I would've thought, you two especially, would have learnt your lesson from the first night in the Common Room, seems I was wrong…so disappointing…James, out of all these disappointments laying before us, choose one and do what you want to them, just don't leave any…visible scars"
James grinned evilly, before pacing back and forth, before grabbing Terence Higgs by his collar and dragging him into the dorm room, ignoring Higgs' cries of help. Harry smiled before turning back to the entire Common Room, addressing all the students before him.
"Now look, changes are going to be made around here" Harry said "Slytherin will become the noble House it once was, you don't like it, then go into a different House…these fools on the floor would fit in at Gryffindor with them charging in head first…to those of you who didn't get involved, I thank you, you at least have some intelligence…I'm sure you will survive the changes…"
With a flick of his wand, Malfoy flew over to him, still in his body bind, looking slightly fearful of the scene he had witnessed. Harry grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him up, so their faces were mere inches away.
"I trust this won't happen again" Harry said, dangerously
Malfoy could only nod in response. In fact, he nodded so hard, he actually hurt his neck. Smiling, Harry dropped Malfoy, causing the boy to hit his head on the floor, before turning to Blaise, Pansy and Arianna.
"My friends, I bid you good night" He said, before looking at the injured students "as for you lot, I'm not feeling kind today…I'll let you guys heal yourselves, don't worry, I didn't do too much damage, I'm sure some seventh years can fix you up, if you need to see Madam Pomfrey, then you better come up with a story that doesn't involve me, because you might find yourselves dropped off of the Astronomy Tower…goodnight"
With nothing else needed to say, Harry turned on his heel, and walked into his dorm room.
…
And that is all for now. What did you guys think?
Snape seems to be catching onto to Harry's true motives, or at least starting too. He's suspicious either way. Should Snape find out Harry's true plans, do you think he will tell Dumbledore and Voldemort, when he returns, or do you think he will join Harry's cause?
The same could be said for Voldemort. When Voldemort returns, what do you think he will do? Let me know in the review section. We also have a letter from Harry's mother. We will be introduced to her soon enough, I promise you.
That is all for now, I hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time, in whatever story I see you in.
