A/N I was inspired by a tumblr post from undeadghosty they draw a picture of Reagan and Brett meeting as teenagers, and I thought it would be a good story idea! So I've decided to do like an alternate universe series of oneshots starting with how they might meet! I'm going to keep up with the canon timeline so this will take place during the 2000's, for this I'm shooting for like 2008 or 2009. Also, because MIT is located in Massachusetts for this story that's where everyone is. Mostly because I don't think someone at age thirteen would be allowed to live on any college campus by themselves. So in this world the Ridleys live in the Boston area. And Rand uses an underground tunnel to commute to D.C. where he runs Cognito Inc.

I own nothing but the plot.

And if the characters seem OOC…well they are teenagers!

MIT is hoping to recruit future students by having someone around their age at their recruitment booth during a college expo. Enter Reagan Ridley third year MIT student and possibly the most socially awkward teenager you could find, who doesn't know how to talk to other teenagers and is suspicious of them despite being one herself.

Enter Brett Hand, star football player and junior at Roosevelt High School. A very sociable teenager who's compulsive need to have everyone like him means he tries to befriend everyone he meets…especially smart girls that he thinks are cute.

Reagan pov

College recruitment expos a place where young high school students hope to find that college or university they might be enrolled in for the four to six years after high school is over. Some will choose a school that has the best academics, others may choose the school that has the best parties, and a small group of them are already planning to go to schools that will help their future careers. Most of the teenagers though have no idea what they're doing here, let alone where their future will take them. Except for the small population of students who have had their whole lives planned out since they were five.

And then there was Reagan Ridley, who despite being around the same age as these high school students was already attending college and already knew where her career would take her afterwards. So, what business did she have at a college recruitment expo? Well, the truth was Reagan Ridley the child genius and youngest student in MIT history was at a college expo, so that she could be a recruiter.

"You know you could smile whenever the students walked by?" Her fellow recruiter and former MIT graduate Ralph Stilton says with a sigh. "The point of you even being here is to-"

"Is to have someone 'relatable' for the kids to talk to about how great MIT is." Reagan sarcastically interrupts rolling her at the older man nearing his forties. "Ralph, I was skipped all the way to high school when I was nine, I'm the youngest student in MIT history and have been literally inventing things that goes against the laws of nature since I was five. I haven't been 'relatable' to these kids since kindergarten!"

"For god's sake Reagan! You're the same age as most of the high school students here!" Ralph nearly shouts in frustration. "You've probably went to the same elementary school as some of them! It shouldn't be a problem for you to talk to any of them."

"Except that I hated being near them so much that I had to be skipped four grade levels." Reagan hissed under her breathe. "I don't see the point of me being here, at least seventy percent of the kids here won't be smart enough to get into MIT and the other thirty percent will just get intimidated because I'm smarter than them, which will make them think they're not smart enough to get into MIT! Which they're probably not anyway!"

"We're just asking you to make an effort Reagan!" Ralph says with a huff. "Besides maybe talking to students your own age will help you to be…less like yourself."

"Whatever." Reagan says with a shrug as she crosses her arms over her lap. She already knew that this whole thing was a waste of time. She never got along with anyone her own age; her lack of childhood friends could attest to that. And she didn't get along with the older kids when she was in high school either or else, she wouldn't have pulled a 'Carrie' during Homecoming. She doubted that after over ten years of no contact she'd be able to even have one decent conversation with any other teenager at this college expo.

Two hours into the expo had proven Reagan's theory to be correct, anyone who dared to approach the MIT booth wouldn't last more than five minutes before making a hasty exit. It didn't matter if the person was the president of their science club and built robots in their spare time. They were always intimidated by Reagan who was clearly worlds more advanced than they were. And those who were brave enough to approach just to try to figure her out were met with an irritable cynical teenager who didn't take them seriously. They could only stand her for about two minutes, soon Ralph couldn't stand to be near her and had left for a five-minute break twenty minutes ago. Leaving Reagan alone to watch the booth, not that there were very many people approaching anymore.

Brett pov

College recruitment expos a magical place where a person's future can begin, where you will find the college or university that will be your home for the next four to six years. Where you can finally find your place in the world. Some will choose a school so they can study a certain subject, others are looking for the best parties, and some people are lucky enough to have it all figured out. Either way today would be an opportunity to meet a lot of new people and make some amazing friends!

Brett Hand was one of those students who at least already knew where he would be going after his senior year. His family legacy was in Yale, and despite the lack of attention from his parents his butlers had already assured him that his parents already made sure he was admitted into the prestigious school. Just like his siblings and his mother and father beforehand Brett Hand would attend Yale, after all it was unbecoming of anyone in the Hand family to attend school anywhere else. And despite spending most of his time ignored he was still a Hand by blood, even if his father resented that fact. He was only attending the college expo because it was a school event and to be with his friends.

"They're not your 'real friends' remember what your therapist told you, Brett." He said to himself as he began to walk around the booths. "Besides today is your chance to have a fresh start and make some new friends."

"Talking to yourself again Brett?" A voice says causing Brett to wince a bit. "Looks, like Brett Hand is getting out of Hand again."

"Oh hey, Vince! Isn't it such a great day!" Brett says in an optimistic tone. "There has to be like hundreds of colleges from all over in here today."

"Yeah, I wonder which school you'll have a mental breakdown in next?" Vince snarks as he pushes passed Brett. "Try not to embarrass yourself again."

"Wow thanks, that's such good advice, see you later fri-Vince." Brett says enthusiastically barely remembering not to refer to Vince as his friend.

It was still a bit of a work in progress his therapist had already told him that it would take some time. But it was still hard not to fall into his old habit of trying to please everyone around him. After all he has spent most of his life trying to please everyone at least until…the incident a few months ago. Brett shook his head trying to shake away the bad thoughts. Now was not the time to think of those things, today was going to be a good day where he made friends with people who go to other schools and saw what other colleges had to offer.

Two hours in and things were going pretty good so far, he had talked to a lot of different people who had added him on Facebook. In almost every recruitment booth Brett had been given a number to call whenever he wanted to enroll. Things were going very well as long as he avoided speaking to his fellow classmates. He had made his way through most of the different booths, at this point he was walking around just to walk. He was considering just leaving at this point when he noticed a booth that he hadn't been before, one that seemed to have a cute girl around his age behind it. Brett decided to walk over after all he never missed an opportunity to make a friend…especially a cute one!

Reagan pov

Reagan let out a frustrated sigh as she continued to sit at the MIT booth alone. She wasn't sure why she didn't just get up and- "Hey!" A voice suddenly interrupts her thoughts, causing Reagan to look up and see who was now brave enough to approach her booth. "Have you been sitting here waiting for the recruiter to come back or something?" Reagan's heart skipped a beat when she looked up at the boy speaking to her who could only be described as a perfect all American teenage boy, the boy was clearly a jock, had a perfect handsome face and smile, and nice reddish-brown hair. "Hello?"

"Huh? I mean no I'm not waiting." Reagan says shaking herself out of her short daze. "Cause…ahem recruiting is me…I mean I am recruiting. I'm the recruiter!" God why was she suddenly mincing her words up that wasn't like her!

"Oh?" The jock gives her a confused look, before holding out his hand. "Well, I'm Brett Hand nice to meet you!"

"Ah hello." Reagan says as she awkwardly as she shakily shook his hand. "So…you're interested in going to MIT?" She asked quickly pulling her shaky hand away hoping to hide her sudden nervousness.

"What's MIT?" Brett asked tilting his head in confusion.

"Massachusetts Institute of Technology." Reagan states evenly despite her racing heart, she gave the perfect looking boy a side eye. "You do know which booth this school is for right?"

"Ah yes of course I like totally do!" Brett blushed as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his head. "Can you talk about MIT? What can you learn there?"

"Are you joking?" Reagan asked crossing her arms over her chest and giving him suspicious look.

"Yes…I mean no!" Brett stutters as his blush gets deeper. "I just-"

"What? Wanted to prank or punk the freaky smart girl?" Reagan questioned forcefully; she should have known that a boy like him was only there to cause trouble. "Well, I sure hope that you and your other jock buddies got a nice laugh out of it!"

"What? No, I wasn't-" Brett continues to stutter fumbling over his words. "I wasn't like making fun of you I-I didn't know…I just wanted to talk to you!"

"You just wanted to talk to me?" Reagan repeats back sarcastically. "Yeah right, as if!"

"No really!" Brett insisted. "I saw you at the booth and I just like…thought that it would be cool to like talk to you or whatever?" Brett sounded very sincere, which only made Reagan even more suspicious of the jock. After all, why would some perfect looking all American stereotype want to talk to her.

"You thought it would be cool to talk to me?" Reagan continues to interrogate as she glared at him. "I find that hard to believe?!"

"Why would that be hard to believe?" Brett asked tilting his head at her in confusion, oddly enough he reminded her of a confused puppy whenever he tilted his head.

"Come on! Why would you some random jock want to talk to-" Reagan began to rant, clearly becoming very angry.

"A cute girl?" Brett interrupted causing Reagan's brain to short circuit.

"Wha-what?" Reagan stammers a bit as she tries reset her brain. "Cute?"

"Yeah." Brett admits causing both teenagers to blush. "I thought we could like talk and…ahem can we just start over? Hi, I'm Brett Hand!"

Reagan just stared at him in disbelief not knowing what to make of this Brett Hand, most people would have run the other way after an outburst like that. Yet here he stood with a perfect smile on his face as he waited for her to shake his hand again. And even though she was still suspicious of his intensions, she found him very attractive, and a boy hasn't referred to her as cute since her father gave her the Britney Spears perfume for her fifteen birthday so- "Hi, Brett I'm ah Reagan…Reagan Ridley." It takes everything in her to shake his hand without acting any stranger.

"So…ahem you're a student at MIT?" Brett begins to ask in a nervous tone.

"Yeah, I'm on my third year. I actually started when I was like thirteen." Reagan admits with a blush.

"Wow you must be like a genius or something!" Brett says clearly impressed.

"Well, I guess some people might call me that or whatever." Reagan says shyly with a shrug while fighting down another blush. "It's not a big deal really…I skipped a few grades, and my inventions pretty much guaranteed my spot at the school."

"That's really cool, what kinds of things do you like invent?" Brett asked.

For the next half hour Reagan found herself talking about her inventions to Brett, and although she was sure he didn't fully understand half the things she was talking about he still listened. She's not used to having such a captive audience especially from a boy she couldn't help but find attractive, unless it was during a presentation people didn't usually listen to her. Even her father rarely listened to her fully when she was excitedly explaining herself about a new discovery. It was nice even though she when she knew she was blathering Brett never stopped her from talking only nodded for her to continue.

"And I guess that's like basically it for right now." Reagan finishes with a sheepishly shrug. "Hopefully the memory enhancer will be done in a month or so…after that I'll probably start working on the-" The sound of an announcement cuts Reagan off before she could continue.

"Attention Roosevelt High students, your busses will be leaving in the next fifteen minutes! Attention Roosevelt High students, your busses will be leaving in the next fifteen minutes!" The announcer proclaims.

"Oh! I guess I have to like go now." Brett states in a disappointed tone as he started to stand back up.

"You do?" Reagan asked while trying to hold in her own disappointment. "Well, sorry if I took up a lot of your time with all that talk about my inventions and stuff. You probably wanted to talk to other schools or whatever."

"It's okay, I already talked to most of the other schools." Brett says with a shrug. "And I liked talking to you, I mean you say a lot of stuff that I don't really understand but your eyes kind of light up when you're talking about your inventions and it's really cute."

"Thanks." Reagan says she turned her face away from him to hide her blushing. "I just hope you didn't miss out on anything by staying with me."

"I liked staying with you it was fun." Brett admits sheepishly. "Besides I'm going to Yale anyway, so I don't really need to worry about talking to other schools."

"Yale?" Reagan repeats back a bit confused, Brett seemed like a nice enough person, but he didn't even know what MIT was until they spoke.

"Yeah, everyone in my family goes." Brett explains nonchalantly.

"You're a legacy?" Reagan asked trying not to give him a side eye again. Brett Hand was either a human that came from a very rich and powerful family or he was a reptilian that came from a very rich and powerful family. Either way the fact that he was interested in her had just become even more suspicious, at least she wasn't so dazed by his good looks that she spilled every detail of her inventions though now she was worried that she might have said too much.

"Yeah." Brett confirmed nodding his head. "So, talking was like really cool, right?"

"Yeah, it was." Reagan nodded in agreement, since the expo was whining down, she decided that now would be a good time pack up some of her stuff. "Too bad you have to get on your bus now."

"The bus?" Brett repeats back.

"You'd better hurry if you don't want to miss it." Reagan stated while looking away from him as she packed up her stuff.

"Yeah." Brett said nervously as he watched her continue to pack up her things. "So, ahem I just wanted to say-"

"Goodbye?" Reagan asked as she finally looked in his direction again.

"Yes, and I thought since we liked talking together today, we should talk again so-" Brett trailed off while holding out his hand again, much to Reagan's confusion.

"So?" Reagan repeats back giving him a confused look.

"I'm sorry do you not have a cell phone?" Brett asked tilting his head again. "I was hoping, I'd be able to call or text you, but I guess if you have like a Facebook or even a Myspace or something-"

"What? Oh, right a cell phone!" Reagan exclaims feeling embarrassed for not understanding what he meant. "Yeah, I have a cell phone!"

"So, can I have it so…we can exchange numbers?" Brett asked while blushing a bit again. "I like you and I want to talk again."

"Yes!" Reagan said in a much too excited tone. "I mean yeah, sure, whatever." Despite still being suspicious of him, Reagan handed him her cell phone, while he handed her his phone. The exchange had to be quick since he had to catch his bus soon after.

"So, I've really got to go." Brett said in a hurried tone. "But I promise I'll like text or something later!"

"Yeah, sure." Reagan could only nod as he hurried away resisting the urge to wave after him like some idiot schoolgirl.

Ralph eventually showed up again just in time to pack up for the day, he literate her again about her inability to socialize with people her own age. But she paid it no mind after all she had spent at least a whole forty-five minutes talking to an attractive boy around her age, who thought she was cute and said he would call her. Even if he turned out to be a reptilian, she could still count it as a win.

Cut to later that night at home

"Hey jellybean, how did recruiting go today?" Rand asked as his daughter walked into their home, he was currently chugging down a beer and watching TV. "What type of idiots did you see this time?"

"Same type as any." Reagan says with a nonchalant shrug, as she set down her bag. "People not smart enough to get into MIT, and the people who think they're not smart enough. And the colorful idiots who think it's funny that MIT has a student as young as I am."

"I do not understand, why that school even bothers with making you do this?" Rand says in annoyance, he had always voiced his negative opinion about the recruit days, always stating that it was a waste of his daughter's time. "You never get anything out of it."

"Yeah I-" Reagan begins to say when she feels her cell phone vibrate in her pocket. "Heeey, Reagan!" "It's me Brett!" "Brett Hand from the college expo!" Reagan couldn't stop the smile and the blush from forming on her face as she read the text messages. "I…ahem I'm going up to my room! Night Dad!"

"Night, jellybean." Rand says not once looking away from the TV as his daughter suddenly hurried up the stairs.

A/N and that's the end of the first oneshot I have a few more oneshot ideas for this that will come next year but for now please enjoy this one.
