Wow! The review section EXPLODED these past few days! Let's keep the Gendo hate train rolling! Thanks again for another great year filled with support from you guys!
Oh my God, the new trailer for Godzilla 2 is unbelievable! I love the new designs (little iffy about Mothra)! Also, are we sure we're getting only 4 Kaiju in this? I could've sworn I spotted Ebirah and Anguirus!
One important note that should mentioned is that I recently retconned chapter 15. I mistakenly added in the line "An Angel that could initiate The 3rd Impact right under their noses". This gave off the impression that Misato knew about Lilith in Terminal Dogma when I was actually making her similar to her Anime counterpart who had no clue what Nerv was hiding. I quickly recognized this mistake and retconned it so as of now, Misato does not know about Nerv's dirty little secret. Hope I cleared things up.
Review Time!
StrongGuy159: I'll always continue to the end!
Boyzilla: Thanks for the encouragement!
Twilightnite13: Oh please, he's been through worse.
Fictionelement777: You got it!
Darzefader: You're gonna love this chapter!
Mythfan: Sadly, no.
DragonMaster7842: There will be no Ultraman or Zone Fighter.
Hercules 8: I didn't break my arm, it was my neighbors and I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
RaptorRapist: His healing factor is more than enough.
Guest #1: Mabye…
Gold1992: Yeah, Gendo's a dumbass and your Misato idea of sending complaints is a good idea. In this Universe, the Nerv is Under the UN and Seele has some of their agents working in secret over at the UN. Ramiel's laser was not meant for piercing through thick targets, his drill gets the job done quicker.
Guest #2: Don't worry, he's not.
Beastrider9: Kaiju are coming soon and I'm sorry to say that the drift ideas won't happen because the Jaegers in this story only require one pilot. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic concept but one I wont be using. The Evas already have that covered.
Thunder Dragon: Cool concept but I'm sticking with the current powers I gave him as of now. And yes, there will be a sequel!
Shin: Yeah, if Gendo seriously thinks that Yui would ignore every horrible act he committed, he's dead wrong.
Kaiju Avenger: They're coming, believe me.
Romancer: There will be no Kaiju romances.
Nigel: Could you repeat the question?
Gojira Defender: Totally, but killing him off early would cause for more problems for the cast.
MI VS SI: Misato could probably do a better job at leading, no doubt about it!
Monster Mayhem: Probably not but something similar.
The Question: Yeah, it's cheesy but good. Might I recommend Gorosaurus vs Zilla? That is some fantastic animation right there!
Kaiju Fan: Yes, Lizzie and Ralph are in this story!
Rexy: Gendo's gonna loose his shit, I promise you.
Marvel: You'll get to see next chapter.
Lost Land: Read on and find out!
SMASH UP: He want's Lilith which just so happens to be underneath Nerv HQ.
Idea Guy: No, I have too many fanfics on my plate.
Fight Club: Yes, that is a good line and I will use it at some point, I haven't forgotten.
Story Artist: Glad you like the reference!
GUGK: Something to consider.
Writing Warrior: Mabye!
Beast Tamer: Keeping it a secret!
Kombat Instinct: You haven't seen nothing yet.
Strategist: He thought that his Spiral Ray would be enough to destroy the Dark One and it's panels in one fell swoop. But he will use his Nuclear Pulse at some point.
Iron War Dawn: Just wait and see!
Hybrid Crazy: Happy Holidays to you too!
Metal Balrog: Gypsy Danger: I'm focusing on the first Jaegers only.
AnimeFan0216: Oh yeah, they're totally doing this just because they don't want to die. Death is the natural cycle of life, there's no way around it. I am planning on doing something about the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Super Smash: Something will be done sooner or later and that would be quite the sight to see!
Junkenstein: I thinking maybe Atum or Apep. Which one sounds better to you?
Pirate King: Wow. That sounds unbelievable!
Titanzilla: Gendo has his own ulterior motives and sees Godzilla as an obstacle. He couldn't give a rats ass about his son.
Chaotic: They may or may not get their chance…
Jack Kings: Sweet poem and yes, that guy's 3D art is astounding!
Skips: Haven't exactly considered that, we're still early in the story.
MONSTER BATTLE: Read on and find out!
Guest #3: Thank you for bringing this to me attention. Don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer in our Lord and Savior (also I'm Lutheran and was baptized as a baby) but my actual knowledge on Angels is limited at best. I was exposed to bible cartoons when I was a kid (all of which were abridged and outdated now) and those simplified versions just sorta stuck with me. I would update the chapter but the document was deleted a long time ago. But if I ever have the time and energy, I'll do a full rewrite. Thank you again and deepest apologies if I offended you.
Idea Guy: Are you a psychic or something?!
Royal Rebel: I haven't thought of a name yet and I'm only focus on Kaiju from the first movie.
Godzilla and Evangelion belong to their respective owners. I do not own either of them.
Chapter 19
Operation Yashima
TOKYO-2-JSSDF HEADQUARTERS
2 HOURS LATER
"And that's why I'm here." Misato explained as she held up the requisition notice for all to see. "I've come on behalf of Nerv to hereby requisition the prototype Self-Propelled Positron Cannon as of 1500 hours today."
In the JSSDF's conference room, ranking officers and scientists seated at the table stared at her with slack jawed expressions of incredulity.
"B-But Miss Katsuragi! This is just absurd!" One of the officers stammered.
"We'll do our best to return it back to you in its original condition as best we can." Misato offered.
"It's not that. It's just that it's a prototype! We've never even tested it!" A scientist stated.
"I understand your concerns but more time we argue here, the closer that Angel gets to destroying Nerv HQ. I'm not demanding any more from you, I'm just asking that you trust us." Misato pleaded. There was a moment of silence until the General at the other end of the table stood up.
"I understand the severity the situation you and your organization are in, Captain. Request granted." He said.
Misato smiled and bowed her head. "Thank you very much, General."
"Would you like us to have the parts air lifted to Tokyo-3 for you?" The General offered.
"No need for that. Just leave them on the tarmac and I'll have one of our pilots deliver it there." Misato chirped as she pointed out the window. Everyone jumped at the sight of Unit-00 walking towards the base as Misato exited the room. Hyuga waited outside, anxiously waiting the news. When Misato came out, she gave him a thumbs up and he sighed in relief.
"We're all wrapped up here, lets head back to HQ and see if we can find a good sniping position." Misato said enthusiastically as she and Hyuga walked.
"Roger that. May I ask a question, Captain?"
"Shoot."
"Our latest calculations show that it would take at least 180 million kilowatts to penetrate that Angel's AT-Field. Where on earth are we going to gather that much electricity?"
"Where do you think? All over Japan!"
"Wait, you mean the entire continent? How are we-"
"I'll tell you all about it when Rei gets the parts over to Nerv."
The two of them were just about turn the corner of the hallway when they almost bumped into someone. But that someone turned out to be Misato's rival, Mitsuo Katagiri! The two of them scowled deeply as they narrowed their eyes at each other while Hyuga instantly backed away from them.
"I see you threw yourself at my superior's feet."
"I see you still haven't lost your pompous attitude. I'm surprised you didn't get fired after you let the Angel stride right past our defensive perimeter."
"We were caught off guard. Our government should've transferred control over to CCI."
"You and I both know that you don't have anything in your current arsenal to penetrate the Angel's AT-Field, let alone get close to it. Let us handle this, Katagiri."
"Let you handle it? What if this cockamamie plan of yours doesn't work?"
"It will work, guaranteed. So unless you have some kind of giant super pill that can wake up the MSC, this is the only thing we've got."
Giving off a brief grunt, Katagiri walked passed Misato and went down the hall but not before stopping. "If it were up to me, I would have gassed that sin against nature before it would eventually turn on us." He said before continuing his walk.
Misato felt a surge of anger build up from within but resisted the urge to run over and punch him across the face. She had to act professional in these dire circumstances so she calmed herself down and she left the facility with Hyuga (who was relived this hadn't devolved into a fistfight).
TOKYO-3 OUTSKIRTS-GEO SHELTER 334
Touji, Kensuke and Hikari sat against the wall of the shelter with troubled expressions, having watched the fight via a monitor installed into the shelter wall. "You guys don't think they're dead, do you?" Kensuke asked.
"I-I'm not sure…" Hikari responded, thinking about Shinji and the MSC.
"They're not. I ain't giving up on 'em." Touji firmly stated, not saying anything else. Suddenly, the monitor switched back on to reveal an anchorwoman with a special news bulletin.
"From 11:30 PM tonight until tomorrow morning, there will be a large scale power blackout throughout the entirety of Japan. This is due to Nerv's work-in–progress strategy against the Angel. All residents will be relocated to emergency shelters in Tokyo-2 as a precaution. We appreciate your cooperation."
As everyone in the shelter began to pack up and leave, the trio looked at each other while wondering if this plan Nerv had would be successful in destroying the Angel.
TOKYO-3-YAMAGISHI RESIDENCE
Mayumi eased back into her couch as the news repeated the announcement. She was just about to get up and start to pack her belongings when she heard a knock at the door. Cautious, she walked over to the door and slowly opened it. To her surprise, it was Makoto.
"Ms. Kusanagi!" She gasped.
"Evening, Mayumi. It's been a while." Makoto greeted. "Mind if I come in?"
Nodding, Mayumi moved away from the door and Makoto walked in. She noted how clean and tidy the living room looked. "I see you've been you've been taking care of your new home."
Mayumi blushed. "Thanks. It was the least I can do since you found this place for me. Again, thanks."
Makoto smiled. "How are the Shobijin doing? Are they here?"
Mayumi's smiled faded as she looked down at her feet. "…They're gone."
Makoto blinked in alarm. "Gone? What do you mean gone?!"
"I don't know! They're just gone! They've been missing since yesterday morning! They didn't even talk to me beforehand!" She quickly explained. Makoto was worried. If the Shobijin left without a word like this, then there was something very wrong. She began to wonder if this had anything to do with Godzilla when Mayumi asked, "Did they tell you about…?"
"The 'other threat'? Yeah, command's not taking it well. Between Seele and the Dark Ones, the last thing we need is something else to be worried about." Makoto answered. She turned her attention to the television that was now showing the body of Godzilla with the news caption saying, "MSC dead? World mourns loss of only living dinosaur."
"I should probably start packing my things. The buses will start to come here soon and I don't want to get swept up in the crowd." Mayumi said as she walked up the staircase.
"Did you see the fight between Godzilla and the Dark One?" Makoto inquired.
"I did and it's very saddening to see him-"
"And you're still just going to put this off?"
Mayumi stopped hallway up the steps. "…I might."
Makoto shook her head. "I've had enough of this, Mayumi. Godzilla has been fighting tooth and nail against the Dark Ones all while you're content with letting him handle all of the hard work."
"It's not like that!" She proclaimed as she spun around to face Makoto. "I have complete confidence in him and I would help him if he really, truly needed it!"
"Then why didn't you help him now?" Makoto glared at her.
"I-i-i…" She stammered.
"Whether you like it or not, you're a part of this fight too, Mayumi. So are you either going to go out there and help Godzilla or do I have to drag you over there myself?" Makoto demanded.
"You don't understand! I still need to see this situation out! Nerv's plan might succeed and we don't know for sure if Godzilla's dead. He could get back up and-"Mayumi attempted to reason before she was interrupted by Makoto.
"First off, there is no guarantee that their plan will work. Second, what if Godzilla doesn't wake up? Third, what the hell is there left to see? The Dark One is getting closer to breaching Nerv and we all know what they're keeping in their basement! Whether you like the title or not, you're a guardian of this planet so stop sulking and do something!" Makoto shouted.
"You think I wanted this kind of responsibility? You think I like being bonded to the soul of a Kaiju?! You and the Shobijin keep telling me that it's a good thing or that it's a gift. Well have you ever thought about how I really feel about this?" Mayumi argued. "I…HATE this! Every day I'm reminded I can't have a normal life with this thing inside me!"
"I know how you feel-"
"And yet you're judging me?!"
"Yes, I'm judging you because you'd rather sit here and do nothing while innocent lives are at stake!" Makoto berated, pointing to the television that showed dozens of people evacuating. It then switched to helicopter footage overlooking a sea of stalled traffic on the freeway with several people having to abandon their cars and walk all the way to Tokyo-2. Mayumi could feel her anger and resentment ebb when she saw the frightened faces of Tokyo-3's citizens as they trudged amongst the blockaded vehicles.
Mayumi felt ashamed as she realized how cowardly she had been acting. She sat down on the stairs, hanging her head in shame. Neither of them said anything for a while. Makoto then walked over to Mayumi and sat next to her.
"I know what it's like to have every sense of normalcy taken from you. I lost both of my arms and my legs when I served during The Impact Wars. I had almost given up hope until I was outfitted with prosthetic replacements. Sure, it wasn't like the real thing at all but it didn't stop me from doing the right thing. Why do you think Monarch sought out me and the others? We're not trying to turn you into a weapon, Mayumi. We're trying to help you." Makoto explained, her voice calm and soothing. Mayumi looked up at her.
"But right now the world needs us. People need us. Godzilla needs us." She told her sternly. "And just so you know, Nemesis didn't bond with your soul just so she could ruin your life. She saved it. Consider that something to think about."
Mayumi couldn't formulate words. She had never considered that thought. Makoto got up and began to head for the door. "I won't berate or guilt trip you anymore but you have to make a choice soon." She turned her head to her. "And whatever choice you make will define who you are for the rest of your life."
And with that she left, leaving Mayumi to her thoughts. Mayumi continued to sit on the stairs as she processed Makoto's words. She began to remember the painful memory of The 2nd Impact. Back when she was 4 years old. Half submerged in mud and debris from the tsunamis. Her parents dead. Her house destroyed. A sizable shard of wood sticking out of her abdomen.
As she painfully awaited the embrace of death, she saw a ghostly creature stride towards her. She could barely make out what it was as it slowly extended a clawed hand to her. When she woke up, she was fully healed but felt…different. Like she was inhabiting another body. Several weeks after the catastrophe, she was greeted by the Shobijin in private in a rescue center. Then she was found by Monarch who took care of her for 12 years. She learned about Nemesis, the Kaiju, The Lost Land and who was really behind The 2nd Impact.
And then Mayumi learned that she would have to fight when the Dark Ones came back. She was extremely hesitant to do so because she abhorred fighting. The weight of her upcoming responsibility was beginning to overwhelm her. All she wanted was a normal life! Was that so hard to ask for!?
But now there were no more excuses. She had to help Godzilla. Maybe it really was her destiny to join the fight. But Makoto's words about Nemesis saving her life got her thinking. What if all Kaiju were intelligent just like Godzilla? What if they were truly sapient beings that were just as human as everyone else? Was it wrong of her to judge Nemesis so harshly?
Getting up, she went into the kitchen and moved towards the mirror hung on the wall. She looked at her reflection for a bit before it suddenly melted into Nemesis! The grey-scaled reptilian face of the
Kaiju stared back at Mayumi who slowly began to notice something.
Looking into her eyes, Mayumi let out a small gasp when she saw that Nemesis was visibly…sad. As if she was silently telling Mayumi that she was sorry for putting such a burden on her. Tears started to well up in her eyes, ashamed of herself for blaming Nemesis for her position when all it did was give her another chance at living a full life. Realizing that she had been ungrateful towards Nemesis and had been unfairly laying all of her troubles at her feet, Mayumi buried her face into her hands and cried. "I'm sorry…I-I'm sorry…"
As she continued to cry into her hands, Nemesis placed a clawed hand on the other side of the mirror, her only way of comforting Mayumi.
NERV-CENTRAL DOGMA COMMAND CENTER
"The drill has just broken through the 7th defensive layer."
Misato gritted her teeth when she heard the announcement. She went over to Hyuga and looked over his shoulder. "How's it going on finding that sniper position?"
"Taking geographical features and access to power transformers into consideration, is our best choice." Hyuga determined, pointing to the map on his screen.
"All right then." Misato replied eagerly. "What's the construction status on the Positron Rifle?"
"The Technology Department says they'll have it done in 3 hours." Hyuga replied.
"Good." Misato smiled as she turned to Ritsuko who was checking over data with Maya. "Ritsuko, have we found a suitable defensive shield?"
"Well, it's technically not a shield per se but it should prove to be sufficient enough for the operation. What we did was take the underbelly of a space shuttle and retrofit it to be used as a makeshift greatshield. It may look ugly but it's got an electromagnetic base coating which I guarantee will stand up to the Angel's particle beam for at least 17 seconds." She explained.
"Good work." Misato congratulated. "Hyuga, send word out to all Nerv personnel on standby. Operation Yashima has officially begun."
MT. FUTAGO-1 HOUR LATER
The evening sun casted an orange glow upon the countryside as Nerv carried out their large-scale operation. Over a hundred excavation crews dug away at the mountain to provide ample space for the Positron Rifle. Thousands of trucks transporting huge generators were ferried up the mountain while Nerv crews laid out miles upon miles of cables up to Mt. Futago.
Within a Nerv surveillance van, Misato and Ritsuko oversaw the construction via the monitors. Misato pressed an intercom button on one of the consoles.
"Nerv Personnel, this is Captain Katsuragi. I need a status update."
"This is Team 6. The excavation crews report that they should have an area for the Positron Rifle cleared out soon."
"This is Team 15. The mount for the Positron Rifle is finished."
"This is Team 4. Repairs for Unit-01 will be complete in one hour."
"This is Team 22. The power supply will be directly fed through 5 different auxiliary sub-stations throughout the designated perimeter."
"This is Team 2. Maintenance crews are currently laying out superconductive supply cables throughout lower Futago Mountain."
"This is Team 10. Transformer arrays are expected to be fully online and operational in two hours."
"Excellent work, everyone. Keep it up." Misato said as she turned off the intercom. Now all that's left is Shinji." She said to Ritsuko.
"Do you think he'll be willing to pilot again? They're a chance he may not want to get into the Eva again." Ritsuko pointed out in a serious tone.
"He's a dedicated boy, Rits. There's not a doubt in my mind that he'll pilot." She said confidently but then her features became crestfallen. "But after what he went through, I really wish he wouldn't."

His eyes snapping open, Shinji shot up from where he lay and looked around. He was in a hospital bed at Nerv, apparently undressed for some reason. He struggled to think how he ended up here but instantly remembered the Angel reflecting the M.A.G.'s payload right back at him. He looked to the window and saw the rays of the evening sun shining through the roof of the Geofront. Just how long had he been knocked out?
Spotting his clothing in a plastic bag and knowing that he wasn't going to get any answers by sitting in bed, Shinji got up and unsealed the bag to put his clothes on. While he was dressing himself, he noticed that he felt…great. Better than great. He felt like he could run 20 laps around his school!
'What did those doctors inject me with?' He wondered as he put on his shirt. 'And where was that singing coming from?'
As he finished dressing he noticed bits and pieces of debris falling from the ceiling of the Geofront and into one of the lakes. What was going on up there? He began to hear a buzzing noise and got out his cell phone that he left in his pants pocket. Flipping it open, he saw that it was an incoming call from Touji. He pressed the talk button.
"Hello? Touji?"
"Shinji! Holy crap, you're okay!"
"Where are you? Are you with the others?"
"Yeah, I'm with Kensuke and Hikari along with my folks and theirs. We got moved over to the shelters in Tokyo-2."
"Good for you. Listen, I can't talk, I need to figure out what's going on and Nerv probably needs me. Talk to you guys when I can."
"Okay. Good luck to you and Rei. Hikari and Kensuke wish the same."
Ending the call, Shinji put his phone back in his pocket and exited the room. He turned to his right and went through the large double doors only to almost bump into Rei!
"R-rei?" Shinji said, albeit somewhat startled.
The albino was pushing a cart with a tray of hospital food on it while she looked at him up and down. Shinji could've sworn he saw what appeared to be surprise from her for a brief second. "Pilot Ikari, you have recovered. The doctors said that you wouldn't regain consciousness in another two hours. This is unexpected…yet most fortunate."
"Um…thanks?" Shinji guessed.
Rei got out a notebook and began to read from it. "These are our current orders from command: We are to report to Mt. Futago for Operation Yashima. Both Eva units will be deployed when pilots-"
"Hold that thought for a second. I just got up and I have no clue what happened after I blacked out. Can you do me a solid and tell me what I missed?" Shinji asked.
Rei tiled her head in confusion. "A solid?"
"A mean a favor." Shinji corrected himself, forgetting how sheltered she was.
"You were recalled into the Geofront after Unit-01 suffered near critical damage. The MSC engaged the Angel but could not penetrate its AT-Field and was defeated. It's current status is unknown. The Angel is now drilling through the protective plates in an attempt to breach Nerv headquarters." Rei informed him.
Shinji took all of this in. The MSC actually lost? That Angel must've been insanely powerful for that to happen. Did Misato have any sort of plan against the Angel? Could this Operation Yashima actually work?
"Where's Misato now?" He questioned.
"Captain Katsuragi and Doctor Akagi are currently at Mt. Futago overseeing the operation." She answered.
"Then let's head over there now." Shinji said as he took the tray of food and walked down the hall, scarfing down the meal all the while.
"But the operation does not start for another seven hours." Rei pointed out.
"True. But this way, Misato can tell us the plan early and it'll give us more time to prepare ourselves." He reasoned through mouthfuls of food.
"…your reasoning is sound, Pilot Ikari. I will contact Section 2 for transportation immediately." Rei agreed while taking out her phone.
MT. FUTAGO-2 HOURS LATER
After a relatively silent ride to the mountain, the car stopped at the foot of the mountain where construction crews continued to dig away at the gigantic mountain and others crews were checking over the cables and power transformers strewn all over its base.
"Just follow the pathway up to the mountain and you should find yourselves at the forward operating base. We'll radio the Captain and notify her of your arrival." The Section 2 agent told Shinji and Rei as they exited the car.
Nodding, Shinji and Rei went up the pathway that was crowded with workers ferrying supplies and equipment up and down the mountain. As they followed the path up to the mountain, while maneuvering past the workers, Shinji looked out into the distance a saw the stretch of forest that had been blown away but what he could only assume was from the Angel. It stretched out as far as he could possibly see but he could make out a large crater all the way at the end. And in that crater lay the MSC.
Shinji felt a cold chill run down his spine. If the MSC was dead, then how would they fare against the Angel's Forced Evolution without it? Or other Angels for that matter? Catching up to Rei, he felt an urge to ask her about something that had been bugging him after the left the hospital wing.
"Rei, can I ask a question?"
"Yes."
"Was there anybody that came to visit me while I was unconscious?"
"No. I was the only one allowed to meet you during that time. Why do you ask?"
"Well…I could've sworn I heard singing before I woke up."
"You were most likely hallucinating from the effects of the morphine."
"If you say so…" Shinji shrugged.
The arrived at a sizable area with an overlook that gave the two pilots a view of Tokyo-3 and the Angel. Shinji could see the drill-like appendage coming out of the bottom of the Angel. They found the forward operating base and saw the doors on one of the surveillance vans burst open to reveal Misato.
"SHINJI!" She exclaimed as she ran over and hugged in in a bone crushing embrace. "You're okay! Thank God, I'm so relived you're okay!"
"That's great, but you don't have to choke me to prove it!" Shinji croaked, feeling his air supply get cut off.
Ritsuko got out of the van and went over to him just a Misato stopped unintentionally suffocating him. "You're-but-how?!" She stumbled over her words. "It would've taken at least two hours for you to fully recover!"
"Rei said the same thing. You got any theories? Cuz I got nothing." Shinji remarked.
"I would come up with some but right now we have more pressing matters." Ritsuko reminded them, eyeing Misato.
"Right." Misato said as she cleared her throat. "Here's what we know about the Angel: It utilizes a Charged Particle Beam as its main weapon and it's capable of targeting anything that enters its field of view. This renders close quarters combat effectively useless."
"So that's why we lost so badly the first time." Shinji said.
"Yes, and for the record, your suggestion before we deployed you was an excellent strategy that could've helped us gather more info on the Angel." Misato stated.
"So why didn't we use it?" Shinji questioned. "We still could've done it when the MSC arrived."
Misato swallowed. Shinji wasn't going to like what he was about to hear. "Your father ordered me to send you out, ignoring your advice, and he also refused to aid the MSC when it was losing against the Angel."
"WHAT?!" Shinji shouted, his shock quickly turning into anger. "That son of a bitch! Does he have any idea how much he-"
"Shinji I know you're mad at him, I am too, but we need to focus!" Misato firmly cut him off.
Shinji closed his eyes and calmed himself down. Rei took note of how much he and Captain Katsuragi were similarly angry at the Commander.
"Okay." Shinji started off calmly. "How's Operations Yashima going to defeat the Angel?"
"It's relatively simple. We're going to snipe it with a Positron Rifle from this mountain, which just so happens to be out of its range." Misato answered.
"You man the one we have in the Eva Armory? Is that really going to be enough?" Shinji asked.
"You are mistaken, Pilot Ikari." Rei spoke. "We are not using our Positron Rifle."
"We're using that Positron Rifle." Misato smiled as she pointed behind Shinji.
Shinji turned around and gawked when he saw what could only be described as a gigantic sniper rifle be flown in via multiple JSSDF VTOL' using cables to hold it as they flew over to the mountain.
"How did…!?" Shinji trailed off in amazement.
"We got it from the JSSDF. We theorize that this weapon should have enough power to destroy the Angel's S2-Engine before it has a chance to forcibly evolve." Misato summarized. "Not bad for a prototype, eh?"
"A prototype?" Shinji repeated as he turned back around to her. "This thing wasn't built for field operations like this one?"
"We had no choice. This was the most expedient way to achieve our goal." Ritsuko confessed. "But it will work, even though we're not exactly sure if the cannon barrel or the accelerator will be able to handle the stress or not. This is the first time it's ever been fired with such a high power output behind it."
"Now then, each of you has a specific role to perform in this operation." Misato started, regarding Shinji and Rei. "Shinji, you will be the gunner in Unit-01. Rei, you will be in charge of defense in Unit-00."
"Understood." They both said.
"This operation will require a high degree of precision. There is no room for error. That being the case, since Unit-00 hasn't been calibrated, Unit-01 gives us a better advantage." Ritsuko explained. "Now listen to me, Shinji. Positrons are affected by the Earth's rotation, magnetic field and gravity so they won't travel in a straight line. Don't forget to compensate for those factors. When you fire, penetrate the core and only the core."
"Got it."
"Speaking of, the target exposes its core whenever it's in combat mode. Once you're in position, we'll enter all of the specifics of the target location and fire guidance solution from our end. You just do things by the book and pull the trigger when the center reticle lines up. As long as you do your part, the machines will do the rest."
Shinji nodded in confirmation.
"I will warn you…there is only one terminal convergence point for the power. Therefore, Unit-01 cannot move once it's in firing position. In the event that you do miss, you'll have eject the fuse and replace it with a new one while waiting for the barrel to cool down. But don't concern yourself with what-ifs right now. Concentrate on destroying your target in a single shot." Ritsuko instructed.
"Consider that thing dead." Shinji said with confidence.
"So then, I'll just have to protect Unit-01, is that it?" Rei queried.
"Correct."
"Understood."
"We still have roughly five hours until the operation begins so use this time to review the battle plan while the workers finish clearing away the rest of the mountain for the rifle." Misato finished. She looked up to the mountain itself and frowned. She looked down and her watch. "Which should've been done thirty minutes ago. What's the holdup?"
"HEY! WHAT'S THE HOLDUP?! WE'RE BEHIND SCHEDULE!" The foreman shouted to the workers.
"We've got a problem with this portion of the mountain! Our excavators can't get through!" One of the workers explained as he pointed to an undisturbed half of the mountain. True to his word, the excavators could hardly dig through it.
"Ah, damn it. We must've hit bedrock or something." The foreman grumbled. "Get that roadheader over here!"
Leaning across the overlook, Shinji took in the sight of Tokyo-3 and the Angel. Rei also stood by his side, watching the view. He felt himself wondering what Rei's reason for piloting was. He already knew that he wanted to protect people but what was hers? "Say, Rei, why do you pilot the Eva?"
"…because it's a bond."
"A bond?" That caught him off guard. Did it have anything to do with how Unit-01 would move on its own to rescue him?
"Yes. With everyone."
"Well, I pilot to protect the planet from the Angels and to keep my family back home safe." Shinji said, hoping to get more from her.
"I pilot because I have nothing else. It is my only purpose in life."
Shinji's eyes widened in shock.
Within a few seconds a large roadheader equipped with a geometrically optimized drill bit moved up the slope and positioned itself in front of the wall of the mountain.
"Okay, let er' rip!" The foreman shouted to the driver.
The driver nodded and with a few button presses, the roadheader roared to life as the drill bit spun with increasing velocity. The machine slowly moved into the mountain and the drill smoothly penetrated the wall.
VWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUCCCKKKKKKT
The drill bit instantly stopped halfway into the mountain wall as the motor exploded with a bang; sparks flying out of the controls as the operator bailed out of the cabin!
"What in blue blazes!? What do we keep hitting?!" The foreman yelled in confusion as he went over to the roadheader to inspect it. The controls were fried and the engine was shot to hell. He looked over to the drill but then he and the other workers noticed something…bizzare.
A dark red substance was slowly oozing out of the hole the drill was stuck in. The foreman and the workers cautiously walked over as the liquid began dribbling down the rocky surface; forming a small puddle on the ground. The foreman inched closer and dipped his thumb and forefinger into the puddle. Closely looking at it, he rubbed it between his fingers as the workers crowded around him.
"What the hell…blood?"
"Rei, that can't be your sole reason! There's more to life than just piloting!" Shinji exclaimed. What had his father been doing to this poor girl?!
Rei blinked. "There is?"
"Yes! In fact-"
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMBBBBBBBBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
A tremor suddenly shook the entire mountain, nearly knocking everybody off their feet! Before anyone else had a chance to register what was going on, the top of the mountain suddenly began to shake and expand!
BRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Mt. Futago exploded into a shower of dust and rock, sending massive boulders flying everywhere! Workers ran about in a panic as some were crushed underneath the falling rocks! Shinji grabbed Rei and the two of them ran for cover inside the surveillance van where Misato and the others were panicking! Construction machines and boulders the size of houses were sent spiraling down the mountain, smashing into the cables and power transformers! Several pieces of debris from the mountain flew outward and smashed into the VTOLs carrying the Positron Rifle! Unable to support its weight, the rest of the cables snapped, sending the weapon and several VTOLs crashing down to the ground!
(Steel Dragon-Stand Up and Shout)
Shinji, Rei, Misato, Ritsuko and the Bridge Bunnies scrambled out of the van once the chaos had stopped and surveyed the damage. It was worse than they thought. Machinery was smashed apart, dead and wounded were everywhere, and the destroyed transformers down below had set off an explosive chain reaction.
Misato ran over to the overlook as did everyone else. Looking down, they saw the Positron Rifle snapped in half with destroyed VTOL's scattered around it. Pure fear grasped the hearts of everybody present. Operation Yashima was screwed.
"What the hell happened?! Did the Angel fire on us?!" Misato hollered.
"We didn't detect any energy readings from the Angel!" Shigeru reported.
"The mountain…." Rei whispered as she pointed up to decimated mountainside, obscured by dust.
"Oh, bad bad bad bad bad!" Shinji babbled.
"Contact Nerv HQ immediately!" Ritsuko shouted to Maya. "We have to-"
"There's something in the mountain." She announced as she continued pointing up. Everyone followed her gaze. Indeed, there was a massive shadow within the cloud of dust. And it was moving.
Thoom Thoom Thoom Thoom Thoom
The sounds of large footsteps became louder. The enormous shape lumbered ever so closer to the edge of the cloud as it began to dissipate. Everyone gasped. Rei's mouth slowly fell open. Ritsuko fell over in fright. The Bridge Bunnies shook in terror.
"Holy-!" Shinji gawked.
"No…no way!" Misato exclaimed in dumbstruck horror.
A gigantic, 85 meter ankylosaurs emerged itself from the mountain, its grey body covered in protective plates and spikes! It's huge, club-like tail swung behind it as its horn gleamed in the evening sun! It narrowed its eyes in barely restrained annoyance as it shook the dust off of its impenetrable hide and reared up on its hind legs!
"MMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNKKKKKKK!"
Anguirus snorted angrily as he gnashed his teeth together. He was ornery and f***ing pissed.
To be continued…
"OH MY GOD! OKAY, IT'S HAPPENING!"

You guys thought it was gonna be Operation Yashima, didn't ya? That roadheader was pretty much the equivalent to a mosquito bite.
I was originally gonna leave this at a cliffhanger after the mountain explosion but as a huge thanks for the reviews, I decided to give you guys an early Christmas gift!
The next chapter is gonna blow you guys anyway, guaranteed! I hope I nailed some of the emotion and the interaction with the cast. This marks the beginnings of Kaiju appearances and at the end of each chapter containing Kaiju; there will be a little encyclopedia sheet for you!
The next chapter will be long and full of action so in case I don't get it out around the end of December, you guys have yourselves a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Don't forget to review but please don't flame!

ANGUIRUS
Height: 85 Meters
Gender: Male
Appearance: Neo
Roar: Final Wars (2004)
Powers: Club Tail, Wrecking Ball, Sonic Roar
Notes: As much as I loved the Showa incarnation of Anguirus, I was almost tempted to use the Final Wars version of him, simply because he looked cooler. But then I finally settled on Matt Frank's Neo version because he represented Anguirus the way he was supposed to be: an actual ankylosaurs instead of a spiky lizard ambling about on his hands and knees.
