Emma took a deep breath as she looked out on Storybrooke from her front porch with a warm cup of coffee in her hands. The air was crisp, and the scene in front of her looked like a Thomas Kinkade painting of Maine in the middle of autumn. The leaves ranged in color from chartreuse to burgundy, decorating the brilliant blue Maine sky. The perfect backdrop for a spooky Halloween. She smiled as she took a sip of her coffee, enjoying the view.
"What are you doing out here, love?" Killian asked, wrapping his arms around her waist as he pressed a kiss to her neck. He smiled, leaning back as Emma rested her head against his shoulder, looking up at him with a smile on her face.
"Enjoying the crisp morning air with a moment of silence before Zoey wakes up and demands to put her costume on," Emma replied, chuckling softly as she closed her eyes.
"Aye," Killian laughed, squeezing her tight. "I thought I heard small footsteps down the hall when I woke up this morning."
Emma let out a groan as she picked her head up from Killian's shoulder, lifting her coffee cup to her lips. She took a long sip before lowering the mug and letting out a sigh. "I guess I should go see what she's gotten herself into."
"Or we can stand out here a little bit longer," Killian murmured, pressing a kiss to her neck. He smiled at the low moan that escaped Emma's lips at his touch.
Killian took the coffee cup out of her hand and placed it on the railing before turning her around in his arms. He captured her lips with his before she could protest, kissing her passionately as he pulled her close to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, smiling into the kiss as she relaxed in his arms.
"Mommy!"
The shrill scream pulled Emma's attention away from the kiss with a sigh as she turned her head toward the front door to see Zoey glaring at her with her arms crossed in the doorway. Her lower lip was pouted, and it looked as though she was on the verge of tears.
Emma pressed a kiss to Killian's cheek before she pulled away from him. She walked over to their daughter, dropped down to her knees, and placed her hands on Zoey's hips. "What's the matter, Zoe?"
"I can't find my costume!" she yelled, stomping her foot as she let out a disgruntled sigh. "I can't go trick or treat without my costume."
"Trick or treat doesn't start until later tonight," Emma said, fighting back a fit of laughter she felt bubbling up at her daughter's distraught reaction to a missing costume. "Your costume is at Grandma's house. She's putting some finishing touches on your ghost and Henry's lion costume. Are you excited to see Liam and Henry in their costumes too?"
The frown on Zoey's face turned into a bright smile as she nodded her head furiously. "Yeah! Liam is going to be an archer! Gina is letting him use Robin's arrows!"
"She is?" Emma asked, her eyes lighting up at Zoey's excitement. Emma felt Killian's presence drawing closer and laughed when he picked Zoey up and spun her in the air, eliciting a fit of giggles to escape their daughter's mouth.
"And what is Henry going to be for Halloween?" Killian asked, tickling Zoey as he rested her on his hip.
Zoey shrugged her shoulders and cocked her head to the side with a puzzled look on her face. "He won't tell me. He keeps saying it's a secret. I don't know why his costume has to be a big secret. It's not like the neighbors are going to give him any candy."
Emma furrowed her brow as she rested her hands on Killian's shoulder, opposite where he was holding Zoey. "Why won't Henry get any candy?"
"He's too big!" Zoey yelled, causing Killian to wince at the shrillness of her voice. Killian's reaction brought about a fit of giggles from Emma and Zoey.
"Ah, I see," Emma mused, nodding her head. "What should Daddy and I be for trick or treat?"
Zoey looked at Killian and Emma for a few moments. She stared intently at them as she thought about an answer to Emma's question. The faces she was making made it difficult for Killian and Emma to keep a straight face. They knew better than to encourage the silly behavior, no matter how adorable they found it to be.
"Daddy should be a pirate," Zoey said, nodding her head firmly. "That way, he doesn't have to go out and get a costume. He can just wear his normal clothes. Although." Zoey paused, looking Killian up and down with a furrowed brow. "He could use a hat to really pull the look together."
Emma smiled, stifling her laughter once again as she watched Killian's face. "I think we might be able to get our hands on a hat for Daddy to wear. I bet Grandma might have something in her closet for him to wear."
Killian glanced at Emma out of the corner of his eye with a concerned look on his face. She smiled and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "I think he'll make a very handsome pirate, don't you, Zoe?"
Zoey nodded her head furiously and turned her attention to Emma with a determined look on her face. "Now for Mommy."
Killian pulled Zoey in close to his head and whispered in her ear. A bright smile pulled on Zoey's face as she glanced up at Emma. "Don't you think that's a good idea?" Killian asked, raising a brow as he looked back at Emma.
"I think Mommy will make a beautiful princess!" Zoey shouted, wiggling around in Killian's arms. "Daddy put me down. I need to go call Grandma."
Emma watched as Zoey ran toward the door, jumping to grab the door handle. Emma shook her head and walked over to the door, placing her hand on the doorknob. "Why do you need to call Grandma?"
"So she can dig your costume out of her closet," Zoey replied, rolling her eyes. "Can you please open the door?"
Emma sighed reluctantly as she pushed the door open, allowing Zoey to run inside. Once Emma knew Zoey was settled on the couch with the phone in her hand, Emma pulled the door shut and turned her attention to her loving husband. She lifted a brow as she made her way across the porch to him. "A princess?"
"Aye," Killian replied, nodding his head as he wrapped his arms around Emma's waist as she got close to him. "A pirate needs a princess to fall in love with."
Emma rolled her eyes before pressing a kiss to his lips.
