Episode 5

"Rollercoaster"

SCENE 1: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). MORNING

The bell rings. Students begin to flow into the hallway to transition to their next class. Jack and Jordan exit from their class to see Alicia approaching them.

Jordan: We only have a few more months and then no more assignments and test.

Alicia: Is he okay?

Jack (chuckling): He just upset that we had a pop quiz and he was too busy with his new boyfriend.

Jordan: Nolan had a meet and greet at this party and thought I should come and support him.

Alicia: Both my best friends have boyfriends and I'm the only single one in the group.

Jack places his arms around Alicia.

Jack (flirtatiously): That's a good thing because I'll have you to myself forever.

Alicia: If that's true then let me interview you for my English paper. Mr. Wright wants us to interview someone special to us.

Jack: Anything for my favorite person.

Alicia: I should get to my next class. I will see you later.

Alicia and Jack share a long gaze at each other. Jordan clears his throat, causing the two to snap out of it. Alicia smiles, waves and proceed to leave. Jordan gives Jack a look as the two continues to walk.

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (GYMNASIUM). MORNING

The Spirit Squad is gathered in the gym. Ivy and Shay have smiles on their faces as they look around.

Ivy: I know its early, but we couldn't wait to tell you guys that we have been selected to partake in the first-ever Toronto Area Cheer Off.

Shrieks and applause begin as excitement fill the room.

Shay: It's not going to be easy because we're going up against Bardell and Lakehurst.

Ivy: I'll be doing the choreography so no worries. That's all ladies get to class and prepare to work.

Members begin to make their exit besides Shay who is upset.

Shay: I'm the Spirit Squad choreographer Ivy. How can you just take that from me?

Ivy: I want to win this for us. This can take us all the way to a National competition. Next year when you're captain then you can call whatever shot you think will benefit the squad.

Ivy smiles and proceeds to walk away as Shay slowly treads behind her with a look of sadness.

SCENE 3: DEGRASSI (PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE). MORNING

Emma enters her office to see Spinner waiting. A smile comes across her face as she approaches her husband and kisses him.

Spinner: I just wanted to see my wife one more time.

Emma: I'm pregnant. How can you even look at me?

Spinner: Because you are always beautiful to me Emma. No matter what condition.

Emma smiles and kisses Spinner once more.

Emma: Don't forget I have a doctors appointment today.

Spinner: I will be there.

Spinner kisses Emma cheek as he makes his way out of the office. Emma rubs her stomach as she walks to her desk and takes a seat.

SCENE 4: DEGRASSI (CAFETERIA). AFTERNOON

Jack takes a seat next to Jordan. Alicia enters the cafeteria and waves at Jack. Jordan notices the flirtatious behavior still going on between the two.

Jordan (confused): Did you and Decker break up?

Jack: No! Why would you say something like that?

Jordan: You and Alicia have been flirting. Ever since we got back to Degrassi, you've been acting differently towards her.

Jack looks around and leans in closer to Jordan.

Jack: I don't know what's happening, but something changed over the summer. Lately Decker and I been arguing more and more. It's just easier with Alicia.

Alicia: What we whispering about?

Alicia takes a seat at the table. Jack smiles and throws a grape at her. Alicia laughs and throws her carrot at him. In the background, Decker watches the two and notices the flirtation. Jordan nudges Jack who sees Decker looking over to them. Alicia turns around to see Decker.

Jack: Decker...

Decker turns around placing his tray on a table and exiting out the cafeteria. Jack rises from the table and follows him.

SCENE 5: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). AFTERNOON

Jack runs into the hall looking for Decker. He turns to see Decker making his way down the hall. Jack chases behind him and steps in front of him.

Jack (pleadingly): Can you just talk to me for a second?

Decker turns around. You can see the angry arising from him.

Decker: You keep making me look stupid. I don't want you hanging out with them.

Jack: Alicia and Jordan are my best friends.

Decker: I'm your boyfriend!

Decker pushes Jack into the lockers. They are both in shock by what just happened.

Decker: I didn't mean to do that Jack.

Jack quietly walks away.

SCENE 6: HOSPITAL. AFTERNOON

Emma and Spinner are holding hands as they wait for the doctor. The door opens in the doctor enters with a file in hand. She takes a seat and opens the folder.

Doctor: The last time you visited us we ran some test because your blood pressure was unusually high.

Spinner (concerned): Are my wife and child okay doc.

Doctor: It appears your wife has what we call preeclampsia. It usually develops in the last trimester, but it can appear only on. It causes the blood vessels to constrict causing a reduced blood flow.

Emma becomes scared as she tightens her grip on Spinner's hand. Spinner consoles his wife remaining strong for the both of them.

Emma: What does that mean for my baby?

Doctor: Since you developed this condition earlier than most women it has greater risk. Preeclampsia can damage your organs and cause serious life threating problems.

Spinner: What does it do to our baby?

The mood becomes even dire. Tears begin to fall down Emma's eyes knowing that nothing good was going to come from the doctor.

Doctor: Preeclampsia can cause poor growth for the baby, placental abruption, or we would have to deliver the baby prematurely to protect you and prevent a stillbirth.

The doctor closes the file and leaves the room to give the couple a few moments. As the door closes, Emma breaks down into tears.

SCENE 7: DEGRASSI (COMPUTER LAB). AFTERNOON

Jack enters the computer lab to see Alicia typing with a smile on her face. He makes his way to her. He leans over her shoulder to read some of the words.

Jack: Must be working on something big.

Alicia: Thanks to you I am going to pass this English assignment.

Jack: I'm glad that I could help.

Alicia turns her head to see Jack. Their eyes connect and sparks start to fly. Alicia old feelings for Jack had returned. Jack inches closer as if he wanted to kiss Alicia. Alicia waits in anticipation as Jack moves closer.

Jack: You might want to change this paragraph. You could lose people with the wordiness.

The moment was gone and Alicia felt wounded. She opened herself up to the idea of her and Jack being a couple again only to be turned down once again.

Alicia (awkwardly): Yeah… You right I probably should just start over and get a fresh perspective.

Jack steps back as Alicia starts to work again. He slowly backs away seeing how Alicia is ignoring him.

SCENE 8: DEGRASSI (GYMNASIUM). LATE AFTERNOON

Shay is leading the Spirit Squad routine. She steps back to observe the other members. She mirrors them to make sure that the girls are on cue. Three flyers fling into the air; they do splits before coming back down and being caught by the other members.

Shay looks over her shoulder to see Red and Ivy entering the gym. Red makes his exit as Ivy runs to the others.

Ivy (thrilled): So let's take it from the top.

Shay: You're late Ivy. We've been practicing for the last hour.

Ivy (assertively): Then there shouldn't be a problem from taking it from the top.

Shay grabs Ivy's arms and pulls her to the side.

Ivy: I'm the captain Shay, so maybe you should start listening.

Shay: You're only the captain because I declined it. I've been choreographing every routine for the last two years.

Ivy: If you don't like how I do things then maybe you should leave.

Shay throws her hands up and walks away. Ivy returns to the other members of the squad. Shay grabs her duffle bag. She contemplates staying but receives a text from an unknown number. She quickly makes her exit out of the gym.

SCENE 9: THE DOT. EVENING

Alicia is sitting in a booth writing in her notebook. She looks up to see that Jack is approaching her table.

Jack: Can I sit down?

Alicia remains silent as she continues to write. Jack takes a seat. Alicia closes her notebook. She looks over at Jack with a look of annoyance.

Alicia (upset): You shouldn't lead people on Jack.

Jack: I wasn't trying to lead you on Alicia. I don't know how to describe it.

Alicia: Well I do. You're self-centered. You love the attention being on you Jack. You like having Jordan and me pine over you.

Jack: That's not true.

Alicia: You like playing with our feelings, but I'm done playing your games.

Alicia grabs her things and storms from the table. Jack watches her leave out the Dot. Ivy enters the Dot. She looks around the room to see Red sitting at a table. She makes her way towards him with a smile on her face when she discovers that Shay is also at the table sitting across from him. Shay notices Ivy watching and kiss Red.

Ivy storms out upset. Red looks over to see Ivy walking away. He looks back at Shay and figures out what she was doing.

Red: That was too far Shay. I thought you were different.

Red grabs his things and leaves out the Dot. Shay begins to question her actions and if she wanted to be this person.

SCENE 10: MASON'S HOUSE (SPINNER AND EMMA BEDROOM). NIGHT

Spinner is lying in the bed. Emma enters the room with a worried look on her face. She makes her way into the bed. Spinner sits up noticing that Emma is upset.

Spinner: Are you still thinking about what the doctor told us?

Emma (emotionally): You're not? She said I could lose the baby Spin.

Spinner wraps his arms around Emma. Emma lays her head on Spinner's shoulder as tears fall from her eyes.

Spinner: Of course I'm worried Em, but she also said that if you carry this baby to term I could lose you. It might sound selfish but I need you here with me to take care of our boys.

Emma does not want to agree, but a part of her knew Spinner is right.

Spinner: We have to think about Gavin and Jack. Your health is important to me.

Emma lays on Spinner in silence. Spinner did not know if he was helping or hindering. The room becomes silent, as both Emma and Spinner get lost in their thoughts.

SCENE 11: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). MORNING

Decker is standing at Jack's locker waiting with a bouquet of flowers in his hand. Jack appears at the end of the hall. A smile comes across Decker's face, but it disappears when he notices Jack is still mad at him. Jack approaches his locker and ignores Decker presences.

Decker (somberly): I know that you're still mad, but Jack you got to understand I would never do anything to hurt you on purpose.

Jack: But you did Decker. I don't think I can be with a person that's going to put his hands on me.

Decker grabs Jack's hand and looks into his eyes.

Decker: I love you, Jack. I can't lose you.

Jack hears and realizes the genuineness in Decker. Jack takes the flowers from Decker and smiles, as he smells them.

Jack: I'll give you one more chance, but you have to control your jealousy.

Decker: I know and I promise you will not regret this.

Decker kisses Jack. You could see the excitement that Decker felt. The two laughs then gaze into each other eyes. Jack's feeling for Decker was reignited. They share another kiss.
