Episode 6

"Super Rich Friends"

SCENE 1: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). MORNING

Maxwell is sitting on the ground in front of his locker studying. He notices a bag dropped beside him and legs in front of him. He looks up to see Shay stands there smiling. Shay slides onto the ground taking a seat next to Maxwell.

Shay: I haven't seen much of you in a while.

Maxwell closes his book and looks over to Shay.

Maxwell: I've been trying to stay low. I wasn't at my best last year, so I'm hoping things will be different.

Shay: You're a great guy Max. You just need to start viewing yourself that way. So you made a few mistakes. That doesn't mean you're not great.

Maxwell gains a confidence boost hearing Shay talk highly of him. He begins to wonder if they could ever give their relationship another chance. Maxwell takes Shay's hand. Shay notices this and not wanting to send the wrong message she removes his hand from hers.

Shay kisses him on the cheek and rises to her feet. She grabs her bag and places it over her shoulder. She proceeds to make her way down the hall, but gives Maxwell a smile.

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (GYMNASIUM). MORNING

The basketball team is running drills. Coach Dillon watches from the sidelines. The ball is passed to rising star Xavier, who shots and makes the basket.

Coach Dillon: Good job Xavier! Keep up the momentum.

The gym door swings opens. Brandon walks into the gym on crutches. Brandon notices how everyone is looking at him as if he was helpless.

Coach Dillon: Take five everyone.

The team begins to disperse. Coach slowly approaches Brandon.

Coach Dillon: Welcome back B. We missed you.

Brandon: Thanks Coach. The doctors said I should be able to play in a month or two. Then I can try to reapply for the scholarship.

Coach gestures Brandon to have a seat on the bleachers. Brandon takes a seat. He knew bad knew was coming his way.

Coach Dillon: The scouts loved seeing you play, but because of your injury, they had to give the scholarship away.

Brandon: I need this coach.

Coach Dillon: Get better B. This is not the end.

Coach makes his leave. Brandon notice Coach talking to Xavier.

SCENE 3: DEGRASSI (CLASSROOM). AFTERNOON

The bell begins to ring. Students proceed to make their way out of the classroom. Amina walks pass the classroom but steps back when she notices something. She enters the classroom to see Jordan sleeping on one of the desks. She makes her way over to him.

She taps on his shoulder, which startles Jordan awake.

Amina: Must have had a rough night.

Jordan looks around the room to see the classroom is empty. He proceeds to gather his things.

Jordan (sluggishly): Nolan had to host this party for his fans. He said it was only for an hour but it turned into five.

Amina: I was there last night. I have to say you really know how to party.

Amina exit out of the classroom. Jordan follows behind and receives a text message. Ivy approaches him.

Ivy (teasingly): Another date night tonight?

Jordan: I wish. Nolan doesn't do dates just parties.

Ivy: Sounds super fun. Red has yet to ask me out.

Jordan: I don't mind going out with him it's just nonstop.

The two begin to walk down the hall. Jack approaches the two.

Ivy: Did you guys study for Mr. Wright English exam.

Jack: I just took it. It was probably the hardest test yet.

Jordan: I was so busy last night I forgot to read the chapters.

Jordan leans against the locker and slides to the floor in stress.

SCENE 4: DEGRASSI (COMPUTER LAB). AFTERNOON

Maxwell enters the computer lab. He notices the young and attractive Lorraine sitting at one of the computers. She is focused and pressing buttons on the keyboard quickly. He continues to move towards her to see that she is playing a video game.

Lorraine: Nice try Invaders, but you are no match for me.

Lorraine spins around her chair to see Maxwell standing there with a smile on his face.

Maxwell: I haven't seen a gamer ever take out the Invaders armada like that.

Lorraine: Because there are no gamers out there that plays like I do.

Maxwell: There is a street festival Friday night. I heard there is supposed to be a vintage version of the game there.

Lorraine: We should go. It could be a date.

Lorraine rises from her seat and makes her exit with a smile. Maxwell smiles then turn to look over his shoulder. Lorraine turns to look back at him. Their eyes connect.

SCENE 5: DEGRASSI (HALL). AFTERNOON

Brandon stands at the gymnasium door watching Xavier practice. Levi is walking when she notices him.

Levi: Must be hard for you not playing.

Brandon starts to walk away feeling disappointed. Levi walks beside him.

Brandon: Besides music, basketball is the only thing I'm good at.

Levi: You're a good musician Brandon. You should focus on that while you heal.

Brandon: You don't understand. Just leave me alone.

Levi pauses as Brandon storms away on his crutches. Manny stands at his locker and notices Brandon. He proceeds to approach Brandon.

Manny: I heard that you're trying to play ball again. I might be able to help you out with that.

Brandon: I heard about you and I don't think drugs can solve my problem.

Manny: I'm providing you with a supplement that can speed up the recovery process.

Manny goes into his pocket and pulls out a pill. He hands it to Brandon then proceeds to walk away. Brandon looks at the pill and places it in his pocket.

SCENE 6: STREET FESTIVAL. LATE EVENING

The street is lit up with festival light. In the center of everything were various performers. Jordan and Nolan are holding hands and walking through the festival. Jordan mind was on other things and Nolan could notice it. Nolan stops and pulls Jordan to a nearby bench.

Nolan: What's wrong with you Jor?

Jordan: I like you, Nolan…

Nolan: I feel like there's a but coming

Jordan: But I'm starting to slack off in school. This is my last year at Degrassi and I don't want to be distracted.

Nolan takes Jordan's hand.

Nolan: You're right. I shouldn't have thrown you into my unorthodox lifestyle, but I enjoy the time we spend together. Give me one more chance. I promise I will do better.

Jordan smiles as he leans in to kiss Nolan.

Maxwell and Lorraine are standing in an arcade laughing as they play the game. Maxwell looks over to Lorraine impressed. Lorraine steps away after the word game over comes across the screen.

Lorraine: That was so much fun.

Maxwell: Do you want to play again?

Lorraine: I can't. I spent all my money already.

Maxwell: Don't worry. I'll pay. My family has a lot of money.

Lorraine becomes uncomfortable, but Maxwell doesn't read this.

SCENE 7: BRANDON'S ROOM. NIGHT

Brandon paces in his room. He begins to do various exercise, but the pain is too much for him to handle. He becomes frustrated and punches the floor. He remembers something and goes into his pants pocket pulling out the pill Manny gave him.

He takes the pill. He takes a moment and a deep breath. Brandon resumes his exercises fighting through the pain.

SCENE 8: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). AFTERNOON

Lorraine makes her way out of the classroom. She notices Maxwell is standing across the hall with a sad face and a stuffed teddy bear. Maxwell looks up to see Lorraine. The two start to walk towards each other.

Maxwell: You were right. I should have never tried to overcompensate during our date. I just wanted everything to go well.

Lorraine: I like you Max, but I don't want to feel like I'm being taken care of.

Maxwell: You are absolutely right. I just wanted everything to be perfect and ended up making things worst.

Lorraine notices the bear in Maxwell hands, which makes her smile.

Lorraine (pointing at the bear): Is that for me?

Maxwell (handing her the bear): Yeah. I saw it on my way home after our date.

Lorraine (cuddling the bear): You didn't make everything worst.

Lorraine steps closer to Maxwell leans in and kisses him. A smile comes across Maxwell's face. Lorraine smiles and begins to make her way down the hall. She looks back at Maxwell who stands there with a smile.

SCENE 9: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). MORNING

Brandon limps towards Manny who is speaking to another student. Manny notices Brandon inching closer and gestures for the person to walk away. Manny examines Brandon.

Manny: I see you're off the crutches.

Brandon (in pain): Hey. I need some more of the pills.

Manny looks around hoping no one heard Brandon. He pulls him closer.

Manny (whispering): I don't need people in my business. How about you be more discreet?

Brandon: I need to get back on the court, so can you help me or not?

Manny looks around then proceeds to open his locker. He shifts some books around to pull out a bag. He goes into the bag and pulls out a bottle of pills. Brandon tries to grab the bottle, but Manny pulls it away.

Manny: This is going to cost you. The first was just a sample.

Brandon contemplates his options. He grabs the bottle from Manny. His need to be on the court was the driving factor of his decision.
