Episode 7

"Wings"

SCENE 1: DEGRASSI (GYMNASIUM). AFTERNOON

Students are dressed in high fashion attire. Jordan and Ivy watch in chairs. Jack is among the students on stage. They all slowly walk forward and strike a pose. A projector turns on behind them with an image of a panther. The group steps backward. Their clothes blended into the design of the panther and made it look more 3D.

Ivy begins to clap in excitement as her show is coming together. She turns to see Red who is painting on a tarp. The two exchange flirtatious glances. Jack notices Decker walking into the gym. Jack jumps off the stage and makes his way to Decker, but Jordan stops him. Decker watches in the background as the two inaudibly talk. Decker storms out.

Jordan: I really appreciate you modeling for us.

Jack: Of course. You're my best friend. I would do anything you ask…even though you forced me into this.

The two chuckles then Jack proceeds to exit out of the gym.

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). MORNING

Jack steps into the hall to look for Decker, who is storming away upset. Jack chases behind him and grabs his arm.

Jack: Hey. I didn't know you were coming by.

Decker: I don't like you spending so much time with Jordan.

Jack: He's my best friend.

Decker: I'm your boyfriend. Jordan likes you and by you, always spending time with him is only going to lead him on.

Jack: Jordan used to have a crush on me a long time ago, but that's over. I don't know why you making a big deal out of this Decker.

Decker: So he does like you.

Decker becomes even more upset. Jack doesn't know what to do. He steps closer and grabs Decker hand.

Jack: I love you, Decker…stop being crazy.

Something comes over Decker. He tightly grabs Jack wrist then shoves Jack into the locker. Decker quickly grabs Jack realizing what he just did, but Jack pushes him away. Jack is hurt by Decker actions. He doesn't know what came over him, but he knows he doesn't like it. Decker tries to apologize, but Jack walks away. Decker punches the locker.

SCENE 3: DEGRASSI (MUSIC ROOM). MORNING

Brandon is standing in the music room. He leans his crutches on the desk. He reaches into his pocket pulling out a pill. He quickly takes it as Levi enters the room. He acts as if everything is normal.

Levi: I just heard that a record label in Ontario is having a talent search. Since you and I are in a band, we should enter.

Brandon braces himself as he takes a seat.

Brandon: I can't perform and hold crutches at the same time. I don't want people seeing me like this. They'll only see a handicapped boy and give a sympathy vote.

Levi sits beside him.

Levi: You're injured not a handicap. I need your help. Please, Bran.

Brandon: Sorry, but not this time Levi.

Brandon grabs his crutches and proceeds to make his exit.

SCENE 4: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). MORNING

Jack is placing books in his locker. Alicia begins to approach him when she notices a mark around his wrist. She grabs his arm and exam the bruise, but Jack tries to pull away.

Alicia (furious): Did Decker put his hands on you, Jack.

Jack (embarrassed): Can we not discuss this right now?

Alicia: Decker has been trying to control you since the two of you got together. I'm not going to stand by and watch this behavior.

Jack starts to walk away, but Alicia follows behind him.

Alicia: Just because you walk away doesn't mean I'm done talking to you Jack.

Jack stops and turns towards Alicia.

Jack: Decker got mad and pushed me, but that doesn't mean he's abusive or a bad person. I don't want to write him off as soon as we get into an argument. I will talk to him, Alicia.

Alicia: I hope so.

Jack quietly nods his head as he makes his way down the hall. Alicia becomes concerned.

SCENE 5: BUILDING OFFICE. AFTERNOON

A panel of judges sits looking over the headshot of Levi. You can see that they are not interested in being there. A woman enters the room followed by Levi. She swings her guitar to the front and prepares to play.

Levi (nervously): My name is Levi Williams. I'll be playing an original song that I wrote.

The room remains silent. A judge clears his throat. Levi places a smile on her face and begins to play.

Levi (singing): A child is born, but the mother is torn. Drifted in many directions…unable to make any corrections.

Levi stops playing as a tear falls down her face.

Levi (voice breaking): I'm sorry. I'm a little nervous. Can I try again?

One of the judges nods. Levi grips her guitar once again. She plucks at the strings as she mentally prepares herself to sing the song again.

Levi (singing): A child is born, but the mother is torn. Drifted in many directions…unable to make any corrections. A child is near…A child is dear, but what can you do when your child is not here….

Levi's voice trails off as she is choked up with emotion. The thought of her unborn child is on her mind. Levi runs out of the room in tears.

SCENE 6: THE DOT. MORNING

Ivy stands at the counter of the Dot. Dev enters and begins to scan the café. Ivy grabs her drink, turns around to see Dev and runs over to him, and hugs him.

Ivy: Dev! Hey. What are you doing here? I thought you were at school.

Dev and Ivy make their way to an empty table and have a seat.

Dev: Levi's parents called me last night. They said she had an audition, but she ended up in tears. I think she hasn't fully processed everything that happened last year with the baby.

Ivy: I'm such a bad friend. We haven't been on the best terms lately.

Dev: It's not your fault.

Red enters the Dot. He notices Ivy and Dev talking to each other. He quickly makes his way out of the café.

Ivy: I probably should get to Degrassi. It was nice seeing you Dev.

Dev and Ivy hug.

SCENE 7: MASON'S HOUSE (JACK'S ROOM). MORNING

Jack is staring at the bruise around his wrist. A knock on the door snaps him out of his daze. Jack turns around to see Decker standing at the door. He covers his wrist then grabs his book bag from the bed.

Decker (pleadingly): Can we please talk Jack? I don't like us being mad at each other.

Jack tries to exit the room, but Decker blocks the door. Jack steps back afraid that Decker was going to lose his temper again. Decker notices that Jack is afraid and tries to calm himself.

Decker: There is no excuse for me hurting you. I just came by to tell you that I love you Jack and I'm sorry. I never have been in a serious relationship before. It was always casual hookups. You're the first person to make me feel this way. I guess I'm scared of losing you.

Jack: I can't…I can't do this right now. I don't want to be in a relationship where I feel controlled. I care about you Decker, but maybe right now we shouldn't be together.

The room becomes silent. Decker is hurt but tries to remain composed. He exits out of the room.

SCENE 8: DEGRASSI (CAFETERIA). AFTERNOON

Jack enters the cafeteria and makes his way towards Alicia and Jordan.

Jordan: Hey Jack. You've been quiet all day. Everything okay?

Jack: I broke up with Decker. Are you two happy now?

Jack slams his tray down and takes a seat. Jordan looks at Alicia confused.

Alicia: Of course not. I just wanted…

Jack: I know. Thank you.

Alicia: That's what friends are for.

Alicia and Jack smile at each other. Jack notices Decker in the background. The two exchange a look.

SCENE 9: DEGRASSI (MUSIC ROOM). LATE EVENING

Levi sits strumming her guitar when Dev enters the room. Levi stands from the chair in surprise.

Levi: Hey.

Dev: How are you, Lev. I heard about the audition.

Levi: I thought I made peace with us losing the baby. It's almost been two years.

Dev: I never told you this, but that summer after I learned what happened, I couldn't get out of bed. I felt so hopeless and lost, but I learned to move on. I still had you and wanted to be strong because you needed me too.

Dev wipes a tear from Levi's eyes.
