Episode 8

"Take Me or Leave Me"

SCENE 1: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). MORNING

Shay is sitting on the ground sleeping against the locker. Alicia is seen down the hall making her way towards Shay. Shay phone begins to ring. She quickly jumps up startled. Alicia slides down and takes a seat next to her.

Alicia: Is everything okay? You haven't been home the last few nights.

Shay (dodgy): Just been out studying. Graduation is right around the corner.

Alicia: We graduate next year.

Shay phones begin to ring again. She looks at it and quickly rises to her feet.

Shay: I have to go. I'll see you at home.

Shay quickly sprints off. Alicia has a concerned look on her face as she watches Shay exiting Degrassi.

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (CLASSROOM). MORNING

Jaylin is standing in front of his class. The students are taking notes then the bell rings. Students hurry to gather their things to leave.

Jaylin: Before you leave I want each of you to pair up in a group of two. Choose a chapter and write a report on it. Thank you. You're dismissed.

Lily looks around the class and notices that everyone has already started to pair up. Xavier approaches Lily's desk.

Xavier: I'm still looking for a partner.

Lily rises from her desk. The two make their way out of the classroom.

Lily: Are you sure? People tend to avoid me.

Xavier: I'm not people.

Xavier gives Lily a smile as he continues down the hall. Lily begins to blush. She felt happy to have her first friend in a long time.

SCENE 3: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). AFTERNOON

A large crowd is standing around the lockers looking at something. Jack, Jordan, and Alicia make their way down the hall. They start to notice students murmuring. They arrive to see Amina standing at her locker. Alicia turns to her friends as they're taken back by what they see.

Amina's locker was covered in anti-gay slurs. Amina is frozen. Jordan approaches Amina and comforts her. Emma navigates her way to the locker and stands in front of it.

Emma (seriously): This is not acceptable behavior. I will not tolerate bullying at this school. Everyone get to class!

The students begin to disperse. Alicia also makes her exit.

Jordan: Are you okay Amina?

Amina: I'm fine.

Amina puts on a tough front and storms off.

Jack: I can't believe people actually feel this way.

Jordan: I just feel bad for Amina. She transferred here and has to deal with this.

Emma: I don't want you to worry about this. I will handle things from here.

Jack and Jordan nod as they leave.

SCENE 4: SINGLETON APARTMENT (JORDAN'S ROOM). EVENING

Jordan and Nolan are hanging out in his room. Nolan's makes his way from the floor to Jordan bed. He grabs the controller from Jordan and tries to kiss him, but Jordan is distracted.

Nolan: Everything okay babe?

Jordan: Just thinking about Amina. I just can't believe people think so harshly. That could have been my locker or Jack's or any other person that is different.

Nolan: You're so sexy when you get riled up.

Nolan leans in to kiss Jordan.

Jordan: I'm serious No. Maybe we can do something at Above the Dot.

Nolan: If this is something you want to do then I will help you.

Jordan smiles as he hugs Nolan.

SCENE 5: THE DOT. MORNING

Spinner is wiping down the counters. Jordan places a flyer on the bulletin board.

Spinner: What you got their buddy?

Jordan: Our friend was targeted in a hate crime. I wanted to do something that shows solidarity in the LGBTQ community.

Spinner: Sounds thoughtful buddy.

Lily enters the Dot. She scans the room then spots Xavier seated at a booth. She fixes her hair before making her way over to him.

Xavier: Hey Lils.

Lily smiles as she takes a seat. The two flirtatiously look glance at each other.

Lily: Thank you for being my partner. It feels nice to have a friend again.

They take their books out and begin to work on their project.

SCENE 6: DEGRASSI (CAFETERIA). AFTERNOON

Amina enters the cafeteria with all eyes on her. She takes a seat by herself. Jordan leaves his table to sit with her.

Jordan: If you're up to it Above the Dot is hosting a party for the LGBTQ community. It's our way of standing together and showing people that we won't stand for this.

Amina: You're right. I shouldn't be afraid. I shouldn't be ashamed.

Jordan: Perfect. Nolan has been promoting the event.

Amina smiles as her confidence is restored.

SCENE 7: ABOVE THE DOT. NIGHT

Music is raving. Teens are enjoying themselves. Jordan makes his way through the crowd to see Amina standing there with a smile on her face.

Amina (surprised): What's all this?

Jordan: This is a celebration for all those who are different. You inspired me. When I was your age, I was uncomfortable being myself, but now I'm not afraid. I just wanted to say I hope you don't let people put you into a box.

Amina quickly hugs Jordan with tears in her eyes. Jordan leads her to the dance floor and the two dances together.

Jack is dancing with friends when he notices Decker makes his way into the building. Jack notices Decker beginning to approach him. He takes a deep breath.

Decker: Do you think we can talk?

Decker and Jordan make their way to a quieter corner.

Jordan: Decker why are you here?

Decker: I miss you, Jack. I'm sorry for hurting you. I let my insecurities get the better of me and I let it ruin probably the best thing in my life.

Jack is touched by Decker's words.

Jack: I probably should get back to the party.

Jack walks over to Alicia. The two walk off, but not before Jack gives Decker a look.

SCENE 8: SCOTT HOME (ALICIA AND SHAY'S ROOM). NIGHT

Alicia is studying at her desk when she hears the door opening. Shay enters the room and falls onto the bed tired.

Alicia: Look who finally decided to come home. Where have you been all night?

Alicia turns around to see that Shay has fallen asleep. Alicia hears a notification come from Shay's phone. She rises up from her desk and makes her way to the bed. She picks up the phone.

Shay: Are you going through my phone?

Alicia: It was ringing.

Shay: You don't get to go through my things.

Alicia: I'm worried about you Shay. You're ditching school, not coming home at night, and you've been super tired.

Shay: It's my business so stay out of it Alicia.

Shay snatches the phone from her and proceeds to walk out of the room.

SCENE 9: EXPENSIVE HOTEL. NIGHT

Shay enters a hotel room wearing a short and revealing black gown. A wealthy older man exits out of the bathroom wearing a suit and takes a seat on the bed. He pours two glasses of champagne extending a glass to Shay. Shay takes a sip from the glass.

Man: Shall we do this?

He pulls out a checkbook and begins to fill out a check. He rips it out and places it on the nightstand. Shay walks closer to the man and slowly kisses him.
