Episode 10

"Spotlight"

SCENE 1: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). MORNING

Jordan is sitting on the ground near the lockers asleep. Jack and Alicia slowly approach with worried looks on their faces. Alicia gives Jack a gaze. Jack sighs and squats down tapping Jordan.

Jordan jumps in a confused daze. He looks around to only see Alicia and Jack. Jack takes a seat on the ground next to him.

Jack: What's going on with you man?

Jordan: Nothing. I was at Above the Dot last night with Nolan. I guess we lost track of time.

Alicia: I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you've been losing track of time for the last few months.

Jordan: Nolan likes having me there supporting him. After the Amina incident, he has been working hard trying to create safe places for the LGBTQ.

Jack: Partying late at night is not creating safe places. Come on Jordan, he has you exhausted.

Jordan rises from the ground upset.

Jordan: You're the last person to judge anyone's relationship, Jack.

Jordan storms off down the hall. Alicia and Jack share an exchange. Alicia helps Jack from the ground and the two start to make their way down the hall.

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). AFTERNOON

Maxwell waits at the door. The bell rings and students begin to file out of the classroom. Lorraine exits the class. Maxwell wraps his arms around her as the two begin to walk. He kisses her cheek making her smile.

Lorraine: Hello to you too.

Maxwell: I feel like I haven't seen you in weeks.

Lorraine: Don't be dramatic. It's only been a few days.

Maxwell: It's been a few days too many. I miss my girlfriend.

Lorraine stops and turns to Maxwell. She smiles at how cute him wanting her attention is. She didn't want the moment to end. She leans in and kisses him.

Maxwell: Do you maybe want to hang out tonight?

She steps back. The moment she wanted to last just ended. She walks off. Maxwell follows behind confused.

Maxwell: I'm sorry. Did I do something to upset you?

Lorraine does not respond. She runs into the girl's bathroom with tears running down her face. Maxwell stops knowing he couldn't enter. He looks around trying to figure out what just happened. He takes a moment before he proceeds to head down the hall.

SCENE 3: THE DOT. AFTERNOON

Levi enters the Dot. She makes her way to the counter. The barista places her drink in front of her. She grabs it and makes her way to a table. She notices Shay crying at her table.

Levi: Are you okay Shay?

Shay wipes her eyes and places a fake smile.

Shay: I'm fine. Just a lot on my mind. Why are you talking to me? Ivy is like your best friend.

Levi takes a seat.

Levi: You're right, but we haven't been close this year. As you get older sometimes, you part ways. People can make new friends.

Shay wanted to open up to Levi, but she was afraid.

Shay: I've been working this job…

Levi can sense Shay's nervousness. She takes ahold of Shay's hand.

Shay: I think I'm doing something wrong. At first, it was small favors like talking and going to dinner.

Levi begins to sense where this conversation might be going.

Levi: You don't have to say anything.

Shay starts to cry. Levi moves closer to Shay and comforts her.

SCENE 4: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). AFTERNOON

Maxwell approaches Lily at her locker. She rolls her eyes, closes her locker and proceeds to walk away.

Maxwell: I need your help.

Lily: I have a boyfriend now. Qe had an attraction that didn't go anywhere. I moved on.

Maxwell: I have a girlfriend Lily, but she's been acting strangely. How do you know if a girl wants to break up with you?

Lily stops.

Lily: You have a girlfriend.

Maxwell: Yes, but not for long if you don't help me.

Lily is somewhat upset by the news of him moving on.

Lily: I don't know. Maybe you need her parent's seal of approval. I need to get to class.

Maxwell hugs Lily and smile as he starts to runs down the hall.

SCENE 5: THE SCOTT'S (ALICIA ROOM). AFTERNOON

Alicia enters her room to see Shay seated on the bed.

Shay: I think I'm in trouble.

Alicia is confused, but she takes a seat next to her best friend. Shay takes a deep breath.

Shay: I think I've become an escort. I don't know how it escalated so fast, but I don't want to do this. This doesn't feel right. I wanted to tell you, but I didn't want you to judge me. Your family has done so much for me…

Shay breaks down into tears. Alicia remains silent as she wraps her arms around Shay.

Alicia: We'll figure it out. Together.

The two of them just sit there in silence.

SCENE 6: THE DOT. LATE EVENING

Jordan and Nolan enter the Dot. Jordan spots Jack and Decker studying at one of the booths.

Nolan: Are you two not speaking again?

Jordan: Jack just thinks that you are a distraction, but he's wrong.

Nolan takes this in. He proceeds to walk over to Spinner at the counter.

Spinner: Everything is all set up for you upstairs.

Nolan: Thanks, Mr. Mason.

Nolan returns to Jordan and the two exit out of the Dot.

SCENE 7: BAILEY'S HOUSE. LATE EVENING

Lorraine: I'll get it, Dad!

Lorraine opens the door to see Maxwell standing there with a smile. Mr. Bailey approaches to see Maxwell.

Mr. Bailey: Whose this young man Rainey?

Maxwell: How are you doing Mr. Bailey? My name is Maxwell. I just stopped by to see your daughter. I really like her sir and wanted your blessing to date her.

Lorraine turns away in embarrassment.

Mr. Bailey: Maybe you should invite him inside, Rainey.

Lorraine: No! He was just leaving.

Lorraine slams the door in his face. Mr. Bailey is surprised by his daughter behavior.

Mr. Bailey: I'm guessing you haven't told him yet.

Lorraine: No. I'm not going too.

Lorraine runs into her father's arms.

SCENE 8: ABOVE THE DOT. NIGHT

Nolan is partying at Above the Dot. Jordan stands on the wall watching not having fun. He turns around to see Jordan and makes his way over. He takes a hold of Jordan and tries to get him dancing.

Jordan: Can we leave now? I still have homework.

Nolan: Just a few more minutes. I promise.

Nolan kisses Jordan then proceeds to dance his way towards the crowd. Jordan looks around the room to notice Harvey. He begins to reminisce about their time together. He looks at Nolan who is busy dancing. He makes his way towards Harvey.

Nolan is making his way through a crowd of partying teenagers. He notices Amina dancing. He taps on her shoulder.

Nolan: Have you seen Jordan?

Amina: I saw him talking to some guy earlier.

Nolan is surprised. Amina scans the room then points. Nolan begins to make his way in that direction. He begins to approach Harvey.

Nolan: Have you seen my boyfriend Jordan?

Harvey: So you're the socialite boyfriend.

Nolan: Excuse me?

Harvey: I didn't mean anything by it. Jordan was just telling me how busy you are with the parties and social media stuff.

Nolan tries to hide his anger.

Nolan: And who are you?

Harvey: I'm Jordan's ex.

Nolan becomes outraged. He storms off.

SCENE 9: DEGRASSI (MAIN LOBBY). MORNING

Lorraine enters Degrassi. She notices Maxwell sitting on the stairs. She makes her way towards him. Maxwell attention is on his laptop. She takes a seat next to him.

Lorraine: Is that Invaders 5?

Maxwell: Oh so I'm your boyfriend today?

Lorraine pauses. She closes Maxwell's laptop. He reluctantly looks at her. She leans in and kisses him to his surprise.

Lorraine: Of course you're my boyfriend.

Maxwell: Then tell me what's going on with you.

Lorraine: I guess I'm just scared of the whole love thing. It makes people do stupid things and not think clearly.

Maxwell takes a hold of her hands. They both smile.

SCENE 10: DEGRASSI (CURB). MORNING

Jordan is walking towards Degrassi. He notices Nolan leaning against his car waiting. Jordan approaches him and tries to give him a kiss, but Nolan rejects it. Jordan notices that he is mad.

Jordan: Hey?

Nolan (upset): You went to your ex to talk about our relationship.

Jordan: I tried to talk to you, but you were too busy. You're always busy Nolan!

Nolan: I thought our relationship meant something to you. You can't just run to your friends or exes when things get tough. Come to me! I'm your boyfriend!

Jordan: I'm sorry. You're right.

Jordan tries to take Nolan's hand, but Nolan is still upset.

Nolan: I just need some space to think. I'll call you.

Nolan gets into his car and drives off.
