Episode 12
"Barely Breathing"
SCENE 1: DEGRASSI (FRONT ENTRANCE). MORNING
Students are lingering outside Degrassi socializing. Jack is making his way from down the street. He sneaks behind Decker and covers his eyes. Decker starts to smile.
Decker: It can only be one person.
Jack removes his hands. The two share a kiss.
Jack: You take the fun out of being you're boyfriend.
Jack spots Jordan making his way towards the school.
Jack: I'll be right back. I need to fix things with Jordan.
Decker: Of course you do.
Decker grabs his things and makes his way into the school. Jack watches as Decker leaves.
OPENING CREDITS
SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (HALLWAY). MORNING
Lily stands at Brandon's locker. She gazes at him as he grabs his books from the locker.
Lily: Are you okay Bran? It seems like you've been somewhere else.
Brandon slams his locker shut. He is annoyed and walks off. Lily follows behind him.
Lily: Can you just talk to me!
Brandon: No! I want you to leave me alone.
Brandon storms off. He hands down the hall to Manny's locker.
Brandon: I need something stronger. The pills are not working anymore and I'm still feeling pain in my leg.
Manny looks around the hall.
Manny: Listen I don't have anything stronger, but I know a place. Meet me tonight at the Ravine.
Brandon nods his head as Manny starts to walk away.
SCENE 3: PRINCIPAL OFFICE. AFTERNOON
Alicia and Shay are standing in front of Emma's office. Shay has a worried look on her face.
Alicia: Don't worry Principal Nelson is a reasonable person.
Shay: What if she doesn't let me come back into Degrassi. I'm nervous.
Alicia grabs Shay's hands.
Alicia: You have this Shay.
Emma steps out of the office. She gestures for Shay to enter. Emma and Shay take a seat.
Emma: I reviewed the incident further. Although I do believe you are not at total fault I have to expel you from Degrassi.
Shay is speechless. Emma has a look of remorse.
Emma: You were the one with the code to Ivy's locker. Other students also recounted your disagreement with her. I know you are not the only one at fault, but I believe this the best decision.
Shay quickly rises from her chair and out of the office. Alicia is waiting outside she sees her leaving out the room.
SCENE 4: THE RAVINE. NIGHT
Brandon scans the Ravine. He slowly makes his way through drunken teenagers. He spots Manny smoking with a group of guys. Manny gestures for Brandon to come over. He takes a seat. Manny passes the joint to Brandon.
Brandon: I don't smoke.
Manny reads the group. He leans over towards Brandon.
Manny (whispering): Just take the joint. If you want something stronger you need to learn how to play with others.
Brandon takes the joint. He puts it to his lips in takes a puff.
Ravine Guy: Let's have some real fun.
The guy pulls out a small baggie of white powder substance. Brandon looks around the group. He had no idea what he got himself into.
SCENE 5: SCOTT'S HOME (ALICIA'S ROOM). NIGHT
Alicia stands at the door. She watches as Shay cries into her pillow. Alicia slowly makes her way to the bed. She takes a seat and begins to console her friend.
Shay (crying): She expelled me.
Alicia (comfortingly): Everything will be all right. We will figure it out.
Shay turns around to look at Alicia.
Shay (sniffling): What am I going to do?
Alicia: We will figure it out. I promise.
Alicia lies next to Shay. She wraps her arms around Shay. They cuddle together.
SCENE 6: HOUSE PARTY. NIGHT
Brandon along with Manny and a group of guys enter a house. A party was happening. Brandon starts to dance. Manny gestures for him to follow. They make their way up the stairs and into a room.
Manny takes out a bag and pours some of the substance onto the dresser. Brandon moves forward and sniffs the substance.
Manny: Save some for later.
Brandon smiles as he wipes some residue off his nose.
SCENE 7: MASON'S HOME (LIVING ROOM). NIGHT
Jack, Jordan, Red, and Ivy are sitting on the couch watching a movie. Decker enters the living room. Jack turns around to see Decker.
Jack: Hey.
Decker notices the two and becomes jealous.
Decker Hey. Emma and Spinner let me in. They said they would be right back.
Jordan reads Decker facial expression.
Jordan: We probably should get going.
Ivy: Why?The movie was just getting good.
Jordan takes ahold of Ivy and pulls her off the couch.
Jordan: Come on!
Red: See you, Jack.
Jordan, Ivy, and Red proceed to leave. Jack notices that Decker is upset. Decker grabs his jacket. He proceeds to walk towards the door, but Jack grabs him. Decker pushes Jack.
Jack: You need to calm down Decker!
Decker: I'm tired, Jack! I'm tired of you always choosing your friends over me.
Jack: I'm not choosing anyone Deck.
Jack wraps his arms around Decker. Decker tries not to look at Jack, but Jack grabs his face and pulls it to look at him.
Jack: Listen to me… I am not choosing anyone, Decker. I love you.
Decker: Get off me!
Jack: No!
Decker smacks Jack's hand off his face. The two begins to struggle. Jack wanted to prove to Decker that he was not going to be sent away so easily. Decker clinches onto Jack's shirt and pushes him hard. Jack is sent flying out the living room window. The glass shatters as Jack hits the ground hard. Decker realizes what he just did run out of the door and onto the lawn.
Jack is in agonizing pain as he lies on the ground.
Jack: I can't feel my legs!
Decker tries to comfort Jack, but Jack pushes him away. Emma and Spinner appear in the distance.
Emma: Oh my God Spin! Spinner: Jack!
Emma and Spinner quickly run to Jack side. Emma takes out her phone. Spinner grabs Decker and roughs him up.
Spinner: Get away from my brother. I never want to see your face!
Decker runs away in horror of his actions. Spinner looks back at Emma and Jack. He returns to Jack taking ahold of Jack's hand. Emma examines Jack's body to see a shard of glass wedged into his back.
Emma: Help! Anybody!
Sirens are heard in the distance.
SCENE 8: DEGRASSI (HALLWAY). MORNING
Lily approaches Brandon who is making his way down the hall.
Lily: Hey. I called you last night.
Brandon: I was busy.
The bell rings.
Lily: I have to get to class.
Lily kisses Brandon then proceeds to make his way down the hall. Brandon pulls out a bottle of pills and takes a few.
SCENE 9: HOSPITAL. MORNING
Jack is resting peacefully in a hospital bed. Decker watches from the door threshold. He takes a deep breath before entering the room. Jack slowly begins to wake up. He looks at Decker with hatred and disgust.
Decker (sadden): Jack…Jack, I am so sorry. I would never hurt-
Jack holds his hand up gesturing him to stop. Decker stands there in dismay.
Jack: I stood by you for the last six months. Even when my friends told me to stay away, I choose to stand by you. I thought that's what you're supposed to do when you love someone.
Decker: You're right. I promise I'll never hurt you again. Just give me a second chance.
Decker takes hold of Jack's hand, but Jack pulls it away.
Jack: I never want to speak to you…I never want to see you…you never existed. This relationship never happened.
Decker takes a step back hurt by Jack's words. He slowly makes his way out of the room. Jack lies in bed holding back the tears.
