Episode 17

"Remedy"

SCENE 1: DEGRASSI (CLASSROOM/HALL). MORNING

The school rings and students quickly storm out of the classroom. Red grabs his books and notices Maxwell with a depressed look on his face. Maxwell exits out of the class with Red following behind.

Red (hesitantly): Hey. I wanted to see if everything is okay. I know it must be tough to lose someone important.

Maxwell stops and turns to Red.

Maxwell: Honestly I miss her, but she's gone now. I don't want to feel like this anymore.

Red: Take your time to process Lorraine's death. When my mom died I didn't know what to do, but I had my friends to take my mind off things.

Red places his hand on Maxwell's shoulder.

Red: I'm here for you if you ever wanted to talk.

Maxwell: I appreciate it, man.

Red nods as he makes his way down the hall. Maxwell smiles as he starts to get an idea.

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (STUDENT LOUNGE). MORNING

Ivy and Levi are sitting in the student lounge working on a project. Jack and Jordan soon join them.

Jack: Is this for Mr. Wright class?

Levi: Literary analysis at it's finest.

Alicia walks into the lounge to see the group altogether.

Alicia: I have to do a family tree for my History class. Do you know how large my family is?

Jordan: I'm guessing pretty big.

Alicia: Exactly! This is going to take me all weekend to finish this.

Jack: I can help you. I don't have anything planned this weekend.

Levi closes her book. Nolan enters with his eyes locked on his phone.

Nolan: Did you guys see that there is a party happening tonight?

Ivy snatches Nolan's phone and reads the text.

Ivy: It looks like Maxwell is throwing an escape party.

Alicia: Escape party?

Nolan: Yeah. It's like a rave where they're no worries or drama. Just a place to escape your problems for a few hours. We should go, babe.

Jordan shrugs his shoulders. The bell rings.

Ivy: We should all go. This will be fun.

Alicia: Unfortunately I will not be in attendance. I have to find all my secret cousins.

The group all starts to disperse from the lounge.

SCENE 3: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). AFTERNOON

Brandon approaches his locker. He starts to spin the combination into the lock. Lily arrives beside him. He becomes annoyed with her presence.

Lily: Did you hear about the party that Maxwell's having?

Brandon: Yeah, so what about it?

Brandon closes his locker and begins to walk down the hall. Lily follows beside him.

Lily: I think we should go. It might be fun to do something together.

Brandon: I'm going to be late for class.

Lily rolls her eyes and storms away with an attitude. Levi appears beside Brandon.

Levi: What was that all about?

Brandon: It's nothing. She is just so suffocating. She is always around.

Levi (chuckling): She's only in Grade 10. Give her a break. You need to unwind a little.

Brandon: I can't unwind with her breathing down my neck.

Levi smiles as she departs from Brandon.

SCENE 4: THE SCOTT'S HOUSE (ATTIC). AFTERNOON

Alicia is searching through boxes inside the attic. She goes inside one of them to see her baby picture. As she is smiling, she turns around as Shay makes her entrance inside of the attic.

Shay: How's it going in here?

Shay goes into the box and pulls out more memorabilia. Her facial expression changes, as she gets deeper in the box.

Alicia: My parents must have been collecting all this stuff since I was in diapers.

Shay: I think you should look at this Licia.

Shay grabs a piece of paper and hands it to Alicia. She takes the paper and begins looking it over. Alicia smile quickly disappears.

SCENE 5: THE SCOTT'S HOUSE (KITCHEN). AFTERNOON

Alicia storms into the kitchen where her mother is preparing dinner.

Mrs. Scott: Hey sweetie. Did you find everything you need for your project?

Alicia waves the paper angrily in her hand.

Alicia (upset): You and Dad have been lying to me my whole life.

Mrs. Scott: What are you talking about honey?

Alicia: You are not my real parents!

Mrs. Scott has a surprised look on her face.

Mrs. Scott: I can explain everything.

Alicia: You can explain how my parents lied about who I am.

Alicia storms out of the house.

SCENE 6: HOLLOWAYS/TURNER HOUSE (LIVING ROOM). LATE EVENING

Maxwell navigates his way through the crowd trying to reach the door. The music is playing loudly in the background as guest dances and socializes with each other. Maxwell opens the door to see Alicia standing there with Shay.

Maxwell: Welcome! Can I get you two something to drink?

Alicia: I need something strong!

Alicia makes her way inside the house. Shay and Maxwell's exchanges glance at each other.

Maxwell: I'm glad you can make it.

Shay: Me too.

Lily makes her way to Brandon. He is zoned out but tries to focus himself as she approaches.

Lily: I didn't know you were coming.

Brandon: Last minute change of plans. Listen do you think we can talk?

The music gets louder. Lily begins to dance. She takes hold of Brandon's hands trying to make him dance along with her.

SCENE 7: HOLLOWAYS/TURNER HOUSE (KITCHEN). LATE EVENING

Alicia goes through the cabinet and finds a bottle of liquor. She pours herself a cup as Maxwell enters the kitchen.

Maxwell: I see you're going for the strong stuff.

He takes the bottle and pours himself a cup.

Maxwell: Here's to how much love sucks!

Alicia: Here's to how much parents suck.

The two begin to drink.

Alicia: I need some air.

Alicia walks off as Brandon enters the kitchen. He quickly takes a few of his pills. He pours himself a cup of liquor and drinks. Lily sneaks up behind him.

Lily: Hey. Did you still want to talk? I think there's someplace quieter upstairs.

Brandon is unable to focus. Everything is muted in his mind. He blankly stairs as Lily takes his hands and leads him away.

SCENE 8: HOLLOWAYS/TURNER HOUSE (BEDROOM). NIGHT

Lily leads Brandon into one of the rooms in the house. She tries to cut on the light, but Brandon stops her.

Brandon: Leave it off.

Lily chuckles as Brandon leans in and passionately kisses her. They continue to kiss as they make their way to the bed. Brandon removes his shirt, which causes Lily to tense as she becomes nervous.

Lily: I love you, Brandon.

Brandon (meaninglessly): Yeah. I love you too.

Brandon leans in and continues to kiss her.

SCENE 9: HOLLOWAYS/TURNER HOUSE (BACK PORCH). NIGHT

Jack rolls out onto the porch where Alicia is seated. She looks over her shoulder to see him with a worried look.

Jack: Shay told me everything. Do you want to talk about it?

Alicia: I just don't understand why my parents would keep something like this from me. I have a right to know that I'm adopted.

Jack: Maybe things aren't that simple. They could be protecting you.

Alicia: I know, but…

Jack: I get it. Everything that you know is changing. You have so many questions, but no answers. When my dad died, I felt so lost. I can only imagine how you must feel knowing that your parents are not who you thought they were.

Alicia rises from the steps and makes her way to Jack. She leans down to kiss him.

Jack (surprised): What was that for?

Alicia: For being a good boyfriend. I probably should go home.

Alicia makes her way back into the house.

SCENE 10: DEGRASSI (STUDENT LOUNGE/ HALL). MORNING

Brandon is making his way down the hall when he notices Levi inside of the student lounge. He makes his way inside with a smile on his face. Levi closes her book as Brandon approaches.

Brandon: You were right. I definitely needed to have some fun. And I finally broke up with Lily.

Levi rises from the table with her eyebrows raised.

Levi: Are you sure about that? I heard that you two went upstairs together.

Brandon becomes confused.

Brandon: I would remember if something like that happened.

Levi shrugs her shoulders as she exits the lounge. Brandon looks out the window to see Lily passing by with a smile as she waves at him. Brandon starts to recollect what happened. He exits the lounge and approaches Lily at her locker.

Levi: Good Morning boo boo bear.

Brandon begins to feel guilty.

Brandon: About last night.

Lily: It was amazing. I'm glad that my first time was with someone I love.

Brandon (remorsefully): Lily… Last night was not supposed to happen. I wanted to break up.

Lily is stricken with heartbreak hearing Brandon words.

Lily: You used me.

Brandon: No…

Lily: I can't believe I'm so stupid!

Lily slaps Brandon and storms off with tears in her eyes.
