Episode 20

"Great Expectations"

SCENE 1: OUTSIDE OF DEGRASSI (MAIN ENTRANCE STEPS). AFTERNOON

Jack and Alicia are passionately kissing. Jordan and Ivy exit out of the school to see the two lovebirds. Jordan clears his throat to get their attention.

Jordan: Glad you two finally came up for air. Jack are we still meeting at your house to study for final exams.

Jack: Yeah. Of course. Alicia and I will meet you there.

Ivy and Jordan share a look and proceed to walk off. Jack catches the look and follows behind them. Alicia waits on the steps until he returns.

Jack: I saw that…you two gave each other a look. What was that all about?

Jordan: I love you, Jack. I love Alicia, but you two together…being a couple it's distracting. You're distracted.

Jack: Ivy? Do you feel like I'm distracted?

Ivy: I'm a judge free zone over here. I probably should get home and hit the books before I'll be repeating grade 12. Jordan I will see you tonight at my house.

Jordan nods as Ivy proceeds to walk off.

Jordan: I'm happy that you're happy again.

Jordan walks off leaving Jack with a confused look on his face. Alicia approaches and kisses his cheek.

Alicia: Everything okay?

Jack: Yeah. Everything is fine. Let's get out of here.

Alicia and Jack proceed to walk from the school.

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (STUDENT LOUNGE). MORNING

Red is walking down the hall when he notices Ivy looking as if she was stressed. He enters the lounge with a smile.

Red: You seem stressed. Is everything okay?

Ivy: I received a call from FabDesigns last night. They're one of the biggest fashion magazines in the north focusing on young up and coming designers.

Red quickly approaches Ivy and embraces her with enthusiasm. He notices her less than enthusiastic attitude.

Red: That's great news. You don't seem too excited though.

Ivy: They're hiring an intern for the summer. They heard about the fashion show Jordan and I have been working on and said they would like to come and see it.

Red: I don't see the big problem Ivy. Your designs are amazing. Anyone who doesn't see that you're amazing doesn't deserve to have you.

Ivy: You're so sweet, but I still need to finish these new designs.

Red: I'll help you then. We can meet tonight at the Dot.

Ivy smiles as Red words calm her down. Ivy kisses Red cheeks and proceeds to leave out of the lounge. Amina enters the room chuckling.

Amina: Dude! Are you stupid? What are you waiting for? Ask Ivy out already. It's obvious you two are clearly into each other.

Red: She's leaving next year. There is no point and starting something when it's going to end.

Amina: Don't let your abandonment issues get the best of you. Ask her out.

Amina chuckles as she leaves back out of the lounger leaving Red there to think about her advice.

SCENE 3: DEGRASSI (CAFETERIA). AFTERNOON

Manny is eating in the cafeteria alone. Levi appears and takes a seat at the table. Manny looks around confused.

Manny: Are you sure you want to be seen with me?

Levi (chuckling): My reputation at Degrassi is not the best either. I don't see the harm in sitting together.

Manny: You'll be gone next year. People are not going to whisper about you going to rehab or being on drugs. I still have two more years here.

Levi: Then change the conversation. Don't let people make your high school experience bad. You only get one.

Levi extends her hand placing it on top of Manny's. Lily walks pass glancing at the two. Lily takes a seat at a table where Amina is sitting.

Lily: I just saw Levi and Manny holding hands. I thought after rehab you shouldn't rush into a relationship.

Amina shrugs her shoulders. Moments later we see Amina in the hall talking to Maxwell.

Amina: Did you hear that Levi and Manny are dating? Do you think he is trying to get her hooked on drugs?

Red is sitting next to Maxwell in the Media room. Maxwell begins to type something. Red computer chime as a notification appears on the screen. He looks to Maxwell in disbelief.

Maxwell: I heard that they are doing drugs together.

Red enters the gym where he speaks to Ivy. The cycle continues as more and more people heard and distorted the rumor.

SCENE 4: DEGRASSI (HALLWAYS). AFTERNOON

Jack rolls next to Alicia who is grabbing her things from her locker. She closes the door and jumps not noticing Jack's presence.

Alicia: You scared me. You cannot be sneaking up on me.

Jack: Alicia you make me happy. These last few months, you made me feel normal despite being in this chair. I want to show you that I appreciate you. I've been doing my physical therapy and the doctor said I'm able to…

Alicia becomes nervous as she starts to piece together what Jack was applying.

Alicia: Are you sure? I mean I want to if you think you ready.

Jack: I'm ready only if you are.

Alicia nods her head and leans down to kiss Jack.

Jack: So how about dinner, maybe a movie, and then we can go to my house.

Alicia: I would love that Jack.

In another part of the hallway, Ivy is making her way towards Levi who is exiting out of the classroom. Ivy spots her making her way to Manny, but she quickly intercepts.

Levi: What was that all about?

Ivy locks her arms with Levi.

Levi: We barely spoke the entire year, now you want to walk arm, and arm like we're back in grade 9 again.

Ivy: I know that our relationship has been rocky, but you are still my best friend. I'm worried about you Levi. I want to be there for you if you need someone to lean on.

Levi stops walking and unlinks her arm from Ivy.

Levi: How about you just stay away from me Ivy. I don't need you pretending to be my friend because you heard some rumor that's not true.

Levi storms down the hall.

SCENE 5: THE DAWSON'S APARTMENT. NIGHT

Red opens the door to see Ivy standing in the hallway.

Red: I forgot that we were meeting tonight. My dad was called into work.

Ivy notices Kasey in the background jumping on the couch. She smiles and waves at her.

Kasey: It's Ivy. It's Ivy.

Red: Stop jumping on the couch, Kasey. Go get ready for bed!

Kasey jumps off the couch and runs to Ivy, hugging her leg.

Kasey: Can you read me a bedtime story Ivy?

Red: You don't have to do that.

Ivy: I don't mind.

Red steps to the side as Ivy enter into the apartment.

SCENE 6: MASON'S HOUSE (LIVING ROOM). NIGHT

Jack and Alicia nervously enter the living room. Alicia takes a seat on the couch. She has spent plenty of time with Jack alone, but this time was different.

Jack: Can I get you some water?

Alicia nods. Jack rolls into the kitchen and pours a glass of water. He places it on the table in front of Alicia. She puts on a smile and quickly grabs the class taking a sip. Jack moves his wheelchair closer to the couch and uses his upper body to transition himself on the couch.

Jack: Um, is that okay? Sorry, it's not more comfortable.

Alicia: This is fine.

Jack leans over cupping Alicia's face and kissing her slowly and passionately. The two fall back on the couch. Alicia begins to run her hand across his leg. Jack suddenly becomes embarrassed and gently moves Alicia off him.

Alicia: I'm sorry. I thought...

Jack: You should go.

Alicia tries to touch Jack, but this causes him to become more upset.

Jack: I said go! Get out!

Alicia quickly rises from the couch. She gathers her things and storms out of the house slamming the door. Jack remains seated with a defeated look on his face.

SCENE 7: THE DAWSON'S APARTMENT. NIGHT

Red closes the door to Kasey's room. He joins Ivy on the couch.

Red: She's finally asleep. I appreciate you helping.

Ivy looks around the apartment to see that Red life was not as put together as he tries to appear.

Ivy: I finally get it.

Red (confused): Excuse me?

Ivy: I get why you are hesitant to ask me out on a date. You hold this family together. If you allow yourself to be a teenager then your family falls apart.

Red gazes into Ivy's eyes with Amina advice playing in the back of his mind. He leans in and presses his lips against Ivy. She is taken by surprise, but she gives in and kisses him back.

SCENE 8: DEGRASSI (JT MEMORIAL GARDEN). MORNING

Jordan passes by the JT Memorial Garden. He spots Jack in the window. He proceeds to enter and take a seat on the bench.

Jordan: Hey. I brought you a coffee. Cream with no sugar just like you like it.

Jack: Thank you.

Jack takes the coffee from Jordan. He takes a sip and exhales deeply. Jordan knew something was wrong.

Jordan: I'm guessing last night didn't go as planned?

Jack: It started well. We went to dinner and a movie. Then we went back to my house and tried to you know.

Jordan: That should be a good thing.

Jack becomes frustrated.

Jack: It didn't happen. I couldn't…And like an idiot, I kicked her out. She's probably thinking the worst right now. She probably thinks that I don't like her or that I'm not attracted to her.

Jordan: It's Alicia we're talking about. She is in love with you. She has been for the longest. I'm pretty sure she will understand once you explain it to her.

Nolan stands at the entrance overhearing Jordan speak. He knew that Jordan words were coming from a familiar place. He quietly exits before he makes his presence known.

Jack: I appreciate the pep talk Jordan. You have always been by my side even when I wasn't a good friend. I love you Jor.

Jordan smiles at the sound of those words he longed to hear from Jack.

SCENE 9: DEGRASSI (STUDENT LOUNGE). MORNING

Jack rolls pass the student lounge where Alicia is working. He knocks on the door. She turns around with a sadden look.

Jack: I just wanted to apologize. I should have never reacted that way.

Alicia: So why did you?

Jack moves closer to Alicia.

Jack: Look at me. I'm stuck in this chair for who knows how long. Every time I start to make progress, I feel like I'm knocked back down. I wanted last night to be special, but my body couldn't register with my mind.

Alicia kneels down and takes Jack's hands.

Alicia: I know that you're going to walk again. I know that our relationship can withstand anything because I love you, Jack.

Alicia kisses Jack. The bell rings.

Jack: I better get to class before I'm late.

Jack proceeds to exit out of the lounge.

SCENE 11: DEGRASSI (MUSIC ROOM). AFTERNOON

Manny steps into the music room to see Levi with her guitar.

Manny: I heard about your fight with Ivy.

Levi: It's fine. I don't need a friend like her anyway.

Levi sits her guitar down and starts to move toward Manny.

Levi: It's crazy how rumors start and spread out of control.

The two become face to face.

Manny: Apparently I'm a bad influence on you.

Levi steps closer. The bell rings, which interrupts their moment.

Manny: I better get to class.

Manny steps back giving Levi a reassuring smile before leaving out the room.
