Episode 23

"Thank U, Next"

SCENE 1: DEGRASSI (PRINCIPAL OFFICE). AFTERNOON

Emma is reviewing a file at her desk. Decker knocks before he enters the office and takes a seat.

Decker: I know that I hurt Jack, but I would like a second chance. I want to graduate from Degrassi. My parents never graduated from high school. I want a better life and I know being at Degrassi will help me.

Emma takes a moment. The room becomes silent as she reflects. She could see that Decker words were sincere and genuine.

Emma: As Jack's sister I don't think I should give you a second, but I'm also an educator. I do believe that you deserve a second chance. I think being at Degrassi will help you become the person you want to be. Spinner was in the same position and he turned around for the better. I hope this second chance will do the same for you.

Decker rises from his chair and proceeds to hug Emma.

Decker: You will not regret this Principal Nelson.

Emma: I hope not. You'll be attending summer school. That should help bring your credit so you can graduate next year.

Decker grabs his things and makes his way to the door where he bumps into Jack as he enters the office.

Decker: Hey.

Jack waves as Decker makes his leave. Jack takes a seat and releases a deep sigh. Emma walks to her office door and closes it.

Emma: Everything okay?

Jack: Relationships are so complicated!

Emma smiles as she takes a seat next to her brother.

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE 2: DEGRASSI (HALL). MORNING

Students are running down the hallways cheering in excitement as other clean out their lockers. The end of the school is among the students of Degrassi. Ivy approaches her locker where Red is waiting.

Red: Good Morning. Ms. Valedictorian.

Ivy smiles as she opens her locker.

Ivy: I didn't think it would be this hard writing a speech. On top of that, I have to decide who's going to run Spirit Squad.

Red: How about you not worry about the future and focus on the present. This is our last time at Degrassi together.

Red pulls Ivy closer to him. The two are about to kiss when Levi and Manny join them.

Levi: You two need a room.

Red: I'm headed to class.

Manny: I probably should get going too.

Red makes his exit. Manny kisses Levi on the cheek before proceeding to walk away.

Levi: I can't believe this is our last few days together at Degrassi.

Ivy: Four long years, but we finally made it.

Levi smiles as she walks away. Ivy closes her locker and proceeds to make her way down the hall.

SCENE 3: DEGRASSI (MAIN FOYER). AFTERNOON

Students fill into the halls as the bell rings. Lily is making her way out of the classroom when Xavier appears next to her. A slight smile comes across her face as they continue down the hall.

Xavier: Mr. Wright's final was brutal. I'm glad to be done with this school year.

Lily: I know what you mean. This year has been the worst.

Xavier: Hey. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out this summer.

Lily stops and turns to Xavier.

Lily: We had fun at the beginning of the year, but I don't think we should be moving backward.

Xavier pride takes a hit.

Xavier: I guess you're maturing a bit.

They both chuckle and continue to walk down the hall.

SCENE 4: DEGRASSI (HALL). AFTERNOON

Jack approaches Jordan who is cleaning out his locker. Jordan pulls down a picture of him and Nolan together.

Jack (concerned): Are you okay?

Jordan: I'm fine. Just trying to focus on graduation.

Jack smiles disappear. Jordan realizes what he said.

Jordan: I'm sorry. I know that you're upset about not graduating with us.

Jack: I'm fine. I really am. And I couldn't be happier for you Jor.

Jack embraces Jordan. Nolan appears in the distance and spots the two. Jordan steps back seeing Nolan. Jack looks at Jordan and follows his line of sight. He notices Nolan walking away.

Jack: Are you sure your okay?

Jordan: Yeah I am. I'm just happy that I have you, Jack.

Jack: You'll always have me Jor.

Alicia approaches the two with a low-spirited smile as she overheard Jack's comment.

SCENE 5: DEGRASSI (GYMNAUISM). AFTERNOON

Alicia steps onto the stage. She approaches the podium with a smile.

Alicia: I'm excited that I am able to this next person. She has brought spirit to Degrassi in more ways than one. Not only is she the captain of the Spirit Squad, but also she's Student Council President and this year's Valedictorian. I am proud to call her my friend. Ivy Armstrong!

Ivy rises from her seat as the room fills with applause. She approaches the podium and takes a deep breath. She places her note cards on the podium and begins to read.

Ivy: Panthers!Today we are celebrating the end of a journey. As I look around the room I see people who helped me throughout this journey. People who have supported and pushed me to my fullest potential.

Ivy looks around the room to see her fellow graduates. Jack stands in the back of the room feeling upset that he is not on the stage with his friends. He leaves out the gym silently.

SCENE 6: DEGRASSI (JT MEMORIAL GARDEN). LATE AFTERNOON

Alicia passes the memorial garden where Jack is seating in deep thought. Alicia takes a seat next to him and lays her head on his shoulder. They seat there in silence for a moment.

Alicia: Are you okay? I saw you leave out the gym upset.

Jack: Jordan. Ivy. Levi. They're all gone and I'm stuck here another year.

Alicia wraps her arms around Jack trying to console him.

Alicia: I'll be by your side.

Jack leans in for a kiss, but Alicia pulls back.

Alicia: Jack…I think we should break up.

Jack: Alicia…I can't lose you too. You're my best friend.

Alicia: You are not losing me Jack and I'm still your best friend, but I can't be your girlfriend. I think there is someone else you want to be with and I'm okay with you pursuing things with Jordan.

Alicia kisses Jack on the cheeks. She rises from the bench and proceeds to exit out the memorial. She pauses and turns to Jack.

Alicia: We're meeting at the Dot tonight to celebrate. You should come.

Jack remains silent as Alicia makes her exit.

SCENE 7: THE DOT. NIGHT

Spinner approaches the table where Jordan, Ivy, Red, Levi, Alicia, and Manny are seating. He places two pitchers down on the table.

Spinner: Congratulations Graduates!

Jordan: Thanks, Mr. Mason. We appreciate you for letting us have this celebration.

Spinner makes his way behind the counter of the Dot. The gang continues to celebrate. Everyone is coupled up. Jordan notices Alicia mood.

Jordan: Alicia?

Alicia: I'm fine.

Jack enters the Dot.

Ivy (teasingly): Alicia it looks like your boyfriends here!

Alicia: He's not my boyfriend. We broke up.

Ivy: I'm sorry. I didn't know.

Jack takes a seat with his friends. Everyone becomes quiet. Jack looks to Alicia and realizes she told their friends about their breakup.

Jack: I guess everyone knows now.

Jack storms away from the table.

Alicia: You should go talk to him Jordan.

Jordan nods and proceeds to follow behind Jack.

SCENE 8: OUTSIDE THE DOT. NIGHT

Jordan exits out the Dot to find Jack standing against the wall.

Jack: This year has really sucked. Everything has been going downhill from Decker to not graduating and now Alicia dumping me.

Jordan: It's going to be alright.

Jack: I don't think it will be Jordan. As soon as my life starts to go great everything comes crashing down.

Jordan sees how upset Jack is and wasn't sure how to help. Without thinking, Jordan leans in and kisses Jack. Jack is taking by surprise.
