Season Five

Episode 3

"Song Sung Blue"

Scene 1: Degrassi (Science Lab). Morning

The bell rings as students begin to enter the classroom. The students quickly take their seats. Harriet enters the room to see that the only available seat is next to Amina. She smiles awkwardly as she takes a seat next to her.

Ms. Teague: First on the agenda…we will be discussing lab partners. You and the person next to you will be paired together for the remainder of the term.

Ms. Teague continues to explain her class to the students. Amina leans over to Harriet and quietly whispers.

Amina: I'm so glad that I'm not paired up with someone unbearable.

Harriet: Like Terry Tucker.

Amina: I'm pretty sure that kid never bathes.

They both begin to chuckle. Harriet becomes apprehensive. Amina smile disappears.

Harriet: Just because we shared a few laughs in summer school doesn't mean we're friends.

Amina: I think we are friends, but you don't want to admit it.

Harriet rolls her eyes with a smile as she focuses her attention on Ms. Teague lecturing. Amina leans back to her side of the station with a smile as she steals another glance.

OPENING CREDITS

Scene 2: Holloway/Turner House (Maxwell's Room). Morning

Maxwell is standing in the mirror fastening his shirt. Mrs. Holloway knocks on the door as she slowly enters the room.

Maxwell: Hey…I'm almost ready.

Maxwell grabs some books from his desk and stuffs them into his book bag.

Mrs. Holloway: Your father had an early meeting this morning. He wants you to stop his office after school.

Maxwell: He's not my father.

Mrs. Holloway: He's my husband Max. I know the marriage has been an adjustment, but please start giving him a chance. You still need to show him respect.

Maxwell: It's getting late. I should get to school.

Maxwell takes his book bag and throws it on his back.

Mrs. Holloway: No trouble this year Max. I mean it.

Maxwell: I know. Love you, Mom. I have to go.

Maxwell kisses his mother on the cheek as he makes his way out the room.

Scene 3: Degrassi (Halls). Morning

A gorgeous, high-end and wealthy fashionista enters Degrassi. She pulls off her glasses to look around the school with the intent of taking over. This is Isabella Jones. Her eyes lock onto the handsome, charming, rich bad boy K.C. The two start to make their way towards each other.

Isabella: If it isn't. Kaylen Creed.

K.C: Isabella Jones. I haven't seen you since that party you hosted in Paris this summer.

Isabella: It was a great party if I do say so myself, but the party wasn't the only thing I enjoyed.

Isabella runs her finger down K.C arms. In the background, Kenzie and Carina watch.

Carina: Don't be so jealous.

Kenzie: She just got here and already has one of the hottest guys at Degrassi eating out her hands.

Carina: Maybe you should just go speak to him. He will never notice you if you keep being a fly on the wall.

The two girls turn their attention back on Isabella flirting with K.C.

Isabella: Hope to see you around.

Isabella kisses K.C on the cheeks. She proceeds to strut down the hall. She notices Kenzie staring at her with envy. Isabella winks as she passes the girls. Kenzie becomes furious and tries to walk after her, but Carina stops her and pulls her in the opposite direction with a smile.

Scene 4: Degrassi (J.T Yorke Memorial Garden). Afternoon

Amina and Nolan are eating lunch. Nolan catches Amina staring at Harriet who is outside in the hall talking to other students.

Nolan: You're crushing on Harriet is starting to become obvious. I think I'm getting sick from the cuteness of it all.

Amina (nervously laughing): No. I mean…Yeah, no. What makes you say that?

Nolan: You clearly haven't taken your eyes off her since we started eating. Just go ask her out.

Amina: I can't just ask her out. She's not gay. She has made that very clear.

Nolan: I think she might be interested. Here she comes.

Harriet enters the garden and takes a seat next to Amina.

Harriet: Being Degrassi's Social Chair is driving me crazy. I need a super fun back to school bash. One that's going to go down in Degrassi history.

Amina: What about a Maze of Fun? They use to do it every year at the LGBTQ+ Youth Center. You can get hay bales and a mechanical bull. It can be a little country hoedown.

Harriet embraces Amina with a hug.

Harriet: Thank you! This might just be what Degrassi needs. This is going to be so fun. I should tell Alicia the news. Thanks, Mina!

Harriet races away. Nolan shakes his head with a smile.

Nolan (mocking Harriet): Thanks, Mina!

Amina: Shut up! It's not funny.

The two exits the garden and makes their way into the hall laughing

Scene 5: Degrassi (Gymnasium). Afternoon

Isabella enters the gym with a smile. Lily notices her approaching the Power Squad. She signals the girls to continue to practice.

Isabella: I would like a spot on the team.

Lily: Sorry, but our spots are filled. Maybe you can tryout next year, Niner.

Isabella: My mother was on this team. Matter of fact she was the Captain. That makes me a legacy or something.

Lily: This is not your mother's team sweetie. I'm in charge and I said try again next year.

The two stand off against each other. Isabella notices Kenzie whispering to the other members of the squad laughing.

Isabella: Fine. I know when I'm not welcomed. You're going to regret not letting me join.

Lily: I'll sleep just fine. Now off you go. I have a practice to run.

Isabella storms off.

Scene 6: Business Building. Afternoon

Maxwell steps out of the elevator of his stepfather building. He makes his way inside the office. He hears a noise coming from the office down the hall. Maxwell stands in front of the door to see his stepfather kissing another woman. They haven't noticed Maxwell's presence.

Mr. Holloway looks up to see Maxwell.

Mr. Holloway: Son…

Maxwell: You're disgusting!

Maxwell takes off in anger. Mr. Holloway follows behind him.

Mr. Holloway: Let me explain.

Maxwell: Does my mother know that you're cheating on her.

Mr. Holloway: I love your mother.

The elevator opens. Maxwell steps inside, but Mr. Holloway places his hands inside to stop the elevator doors from closing.

Mr. Holloway: Can we keep this between us? I should be the one to tell your mother.

Maxwell: I have to go.

Mr. Holloway steps back as the doors begin to close.

Scene 7: Degrassi (Halls). Morning

Isabella approaches Carina at her locker.

Isabella: Why is High School so lame? It feels like everybody is against me and they don't even know me. I thought I left the mean girls back in Paris.

Carina: You're just new that's all. Just give it some time Degrassi can be fun.

Isabella: I can really use a friend. I thought transferring would allow me to have a fresh start.

Carina: You should come to Maze of Fun afterschool. I'm going to be there with Kenzie.

Isabella: I don't think she likes me very much.

Carina: She's just sensitive, but you should come. It's going to be a lot of fun I heard.

A smile slowly appears on Isabella's face.

Isabella: I guess it wouldn't hurt.

Isabella proceeds to walk off. Kenzie passes by Isabella rolling her eyes making sure Isabella knew of her disdain.

Kenzie: I really do not like that girl. Did you know that she had the nerves to storm into cheer practice demanding a spot on the team?

Carina: Maybe you should just give her a break. She just transferred here and been having a hard time adjusting.

Kenzie: I guess. I cannot wait to hang out at the Maze afterschool. Just you and me. Watching cute boys. Playing some fun games.

Kenzie locks her arms with Carina as they begin to walk down the hall. Carina has an anxious smile on her face. She pauses to look at Kenzie.

Carina: I sort of invited Isabella to hang out with us afterschool.

Kenzie: Ugh! You are too nice.

Carina: Just give her a chance for me.

Carina smiles resting her head on Kenzie's shoulders. They continue to walk.

Scene 8: Degrassi (Parking Lot). Afternoon

The Degrassi parking lot has been transformed into a country fair. There are hay bells scattered across the lot. Red is drawing a caricature of the students. The students are playing other fun games that have been set up. Harriet watches the students enjoying her hard work. Amina approaches with two bags of popcorn. She hands one off to Harriett.

Amina: You really work fast. This is amazing.

Harriet: I should be thanking you. This would have never happened if you never gave me the idea.

A group of students passes the two whisperings and laughing. Harriet becomes uncomfortable. Amina notices and places her hand on her arms.

Amina: Just ignore them. They're jerks.

Two of the male students pretend to kiss.

Male Student: Are you two lesbo lovers? Can we see a kiss?

Harriet becomes outraged.

Harriet: You need to stay away from me!

The students begin to turn their attention to the two girls.

Harriet: Homosexuality is a sin! Now you have the school believing I behave in such deviant behavior. Leviticus states you shall not lie with male as with woman; it is an abomination. It's the same if woman lie with female. You are an abomination Amina. Stay the hell away from me.

Harriett runs away. Amina looks around to see all eyes were on her. Nolan navigates his way through the crowd. He wraps her arms around his friend and takes her away.

Scene 9: Holloway/Turner House (Maxwell's Room). Night

Maxwell is lying on his bed playing his handheld game. Mr. Holloway knocks on the door and enters the room.

Mr. Holloway: Can we talk champ?

Maxell ignores him. Mr. Holloway takes a seat on the edge of the bed.

Mr. Holloway: What you saw the other day at my office was a lapse of judgment. I love your mother and I would never hurt her. I just wanted you to know I ended things with Carnie.

Maxwell continues to focus on his game. Mr. Holloway rises from the bed proceeding to exit the room. Maxwell tosses his game as the door closes shut becoming frustrated.
