Episode 5
"Next Lifetime"
Scene 1: Mason's Home (Living Room). Afternoon
Spinner is chasing behind Gavin who is running throughout the living room naked. Emma is located in the kitchen pacing with a crying Cristi trying to calm her down. The house was messier than normal. The door opens as Jack and Jordan enter the house laughing.
Emma: I'm glad you are here. I need help with your – Jordan? I didn't know you were stopping by.
Jordan: Hey Mrs. Nelson – Mason.
Jack: I'll meet you upstairs.
Jordan nods as he heads towards Jack's room. Spinner returns carrying a fully dressed Gavin.
Emma: I really needed your help, Jack. You were supposed to come straight home.
Jack: I'm sorry Em. I lost track of time.
Spinner places Gavin down on the floor. Gavin sprints off. He takes Cristi from Emma and heads upstairs.
Spinner: I'll go put her down for a nap.
Emma tries to calm herself down.
Jack: I'll help out around the house more.
Emma: We need to talk. Go have fun with Jordan. The door stays open.
Jack smiles as he proceeds to walk off.
OPENING CREDITS
Scene 2: Degrassi (Main Foyer). Morning
Emma and Jack enter Degrassi. Emma checks her watch. She was tired and you could tell. She turns to Jack.
Emma: We're having a family dinner tonight. Only the family, which means Jordan, should not be showing up.
Jack: Fine!
Jack is about to walk off, but Emma stops him.
Emma: I am serious Jack. I need you to come straight home.
Jack: I said okay Emma. I will be at home.
Emma lets Jack go and proceeds to make her way down the hall. Jack turns around to see Alicia and Red acting flirtatious towards each other. Decker enters the school. He stands beside Jack noticing he was watching them.
Decker: Alicia and Red? I did not see that one coming.
Jack: Me neither. I'm sure its nothing.
Jack turns around in surprise. He didn't realize who he had been talking too. Decker smiles as he adjusts his book bag.
Jack: I'm sorry – Hey. How's it going?
Decker: It's going…think I'm finally starting to make friends.
Jack: Friends? That's good. Having friends is definitely a good thing.
Decker looks around sensing the tension. He steps closer to Jack, who steps back. Jack clearly was uncomfortable.
Decker: I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. I hope things can go back to normal between us. Whenever you're ready.
The bell rings. Jack nods and quickly races away. Brandon and Xavier slowly approach chuckling.
Brandon: Dude? You still have a thing for your ex.
Decker: Shut up!
Xavier: He's just being a jerk. Catch you later man.
Decker: Yeah. See you.
Xavier taps on Brandon's arms as he starts to walk away. Brandon smiles and pats Decker on the back as he continues down the hall catching up to Xavier. Decker lingers on those words as he watches Jack.
Scene 3: Degrassi (Gymnasium). Morning
Carina and Kenzie enter the gym talking. Kenzie locks eyes with K.C who is stretching. He gives her a charismatic smirk. Carina and Kenzie take a seat on the floor and begin to stretch.
Kenzie: Can he just ask me out already? We have been flirting nonstop. I mean you saw that look.
Carina: You know you ask him out too.
Kenzie: Why would I do that?
Carina shakes her head. She rises from the floor and begins to door more stretches.
Kenzie: Are you going to ask Isaiah out again? Another study date perhaps.
Carina: I don't have too. We already had our first official date! It was perfect.
Kenzie's mood shifts.
Kenzie: You didn't tell me that.
Carina: I was going to mention it, but Isabella and I…
Kenzie walks away. Carina turns around and follows her.
Carina: McKenzie Adams! You are still my best friend. You know that.
Kenzie: I know, but I still don't like you hanging out with the enemy.
Kenzie and Carina hug it out. Kenzie notices Isabella entering the gymnasium. Isabella makes her way towards K.C. They both turn to watch Isabella and K.C conversation.
Carina: I'm sure its nothing. Don't worry.
Carina turns Kenzie around to look away.
Scene 4: Degrassi (Science Lab). Afternoon
The tardy bells ring. Brandon races into the classroom.
Ms. Teague: Thank you for joining us, Mr. Jones. Can you find a station?
Brandon maneuvers his way to the back of the class. He takes a seat next to Ke'Anna. Ke'Anna had a nonchalance presence. She was a tomboy wearing a midriff wife-beater and baggy cargo pants.
Brandon: Mind if I join you?
Ke'Anna: You're already here aren't you.
Ke'Anna gives him a smile, which caused Brandon to smile. Manny walks by the classroom. He spots them and notices the attraction. He has a worried look on his face.
Scene 5: Degrassi (Emma's Office). Afternoon
Jack knocks on Emma's door. Emma is grabbing her things preparing to leave. She notices Jack.
Emma: Hey. I have a meeting and I'm late. Can you meet me in the car after your last class?
Jack: I know I said I'll help out after school, but Jordan asked me to hang out.
Emma stops becoming frustrated.
Emma: Jack! I need you at home. Jordan will have to wait.
Jack: He's my boyfriend.
Emma: Spinner and I have something very important to discuss with you. I don't care about your boyfriend right now.
Jack: You sound like our mother.
Jack storms out of the office.
Scene 6: Degrassi (Cafeteria). Afternoon
Isaiah joins Carina, Kenzie, and Marcel. Carina gives him a smile.
Kenzie: You too are so adorable. Are you two like social media office?
Marcel: A Grade 9 power couple.
Isaiah: I don't think – I mean…I'll just stay quiet.
Isaiah places his head down in embarrassment. Carina gives Kenzie a glare. K.C enters the cafeteria making his way through different tables socializing.
Kenzie: Do you think I should go over there and talk to him.
Marcel, Carina, and Isaiah turn their attention over to K.C as he approaches their table.
Marcel: It looks like you don't have too. He's coming this way.
Kenzie becomes flustered. She quickly fixes her hair.
Kenzie (rattling): Do I look okay? How's my hair? Do I have anything in my teeth?
K.C: So I'm having a party at my house tomorrow. It's really mostly for Niners, so I wanted to invite everyone here.
K.C looks over to see McKenzie awkwardly smiling. He chuckles then walks off.
Scene 7: Degrassi (Hall). Afternoon
Ke'Anna appears in the hall. She notices Brandon at his locker. She starts to make her way towards him. She sneaks behind him. Brandon still doesn't notice he is listening to his headphones. Ke'Anna pulls one of the earbuds out and into her ear listening to the song.
Ke'Anna: I never heard of this person.
She has a smile that could place anyone in a trance. Brandon takes the earbud back and closes his locker. Ke'Anna leans against it.
Brandon: That's because it's me. Just a song I wrote.
Ke'Anna: It's interesting. You should play me some more of your music.
She whispers something into his ear.
Ke'Anna: What are you doing after school? Maybe you should stop by the Ravine. A few people are meeting up for some fun.
Brandon: I have basketball practices, but maybe another time.
Ke'Anna: I'm Ke'Anna by the way.
Ke'Anna walks off. He looks over his shoulder with a smile. Manny approaches him.
Manny: A little word of advice if you want to stay sober stay away from Ke'Anna.
Brandon: I appreciate it, but I don't need your advice.
Manny: I know her and the crew she hangs with they are not good people.
Brandon slams his locker.
Brandon: I'm good.
Manny takes the hint and walks away.
Scene 8: The Dot. Afternoon
Ivy enters the Dot. She scans the establishment to see Jordan wiping down tables. She takes a seat at the table.
Jordan: I just cleaned that table.
She mocks him. He moves to the next table.
Ivy: I feel like I don't see you guys anymore. I miss you.
Jordan: I miss you too, but we have a class together.
Ivy: I know, but I still miss my best friend. Where is your Mr. Perfect?
The door opens. Jack enters the Dot. A smile comes across Jordan's face.
Jordan: I'll be back.
Jordan places his cleaning supplies down and walks towards the door.
Jack: Hey. I hate to do this, but I can't hang out today. Emma's been on me about helping out after school.
Jordan: Is everything okay?
Jack: I'm sure it is, but I will call you tonight.
Jack kisses Jordan cheek. He quickly leaves out the Dot. Jordan turns to Ivy who looks away.
Scene 9. K.C's Family Apartment. Night
Teens filled the apartment. Music blared. K.C runs towards the door. He opens it to see Kenzie, Carina, Marcel, and Isaiah in the hall. He steps aside to let them in the apartment.
K.C: I'm glad you guys made it. Come in. Drinks are in the kitchen.
Carina looks around and becomes uncomfortable.
Carina (whispering to Kenzie): I don't think we should be here. There is alcohol here.
Kenzie (whispering to Carina): Don't be so boring. We just need to stay long enough for K.C to notice me.
Kenzie takes off her coat revealing a provocative outfit. She hands the coat to Marcel and proceeds to walk further into the apartment.
Scene 10: Mason's House (Dining Room). Night
Emma, Spinner, Jack, and the kids eat dinner silently. Emma places her utensils down.
Emma: Jack…Spinner and I wanted to talk to you about something important.
Jack: Is everything okay? You two aren't getting separating again, are you?
Spinner: Of course not.
Emma: I've been offered a job.
Jack: That's great Emma!
Emma: If I accept the job it means you would have to leave Degrassi. We would be leaving Toronto.
Jack looks at Emma and Spinner with confusion.
Jack: I can't leave Degrassi. School just started. I was already held back a year.
Emma: I understand that it would be an adjustment, but you could still graduate on time.
Jack: But not with my friends. Jordan is also here.
Spinner: Listen, buddy…It's a great opportunity for Emma. You can make new friends. Jordan will be here and I know you two can work through it.
Jack pushes his chair out.
Jack: I'm done eating. Can I go to my room?
Jack proceeds to exit. Emma looks to Spinner with a worried look.
Scene 11. K.C's Family Apartment (Bedroom). Night
A small group of students gathers in a separate room from the party. Kenzie enters the room and gives K.C a smile. K.C is closing the door, but Isabella appears.
Isabella: Sorry I'm late, but the real party has begun.
K.C and Isabella lock eyes. K.C closes the door. They take a seat on the floor.
Isabella: How about we play a little game to make things interesting.
Everyone nods in agreement.
Marcel: What game though?
Kenzie: How about Baby, do you love me? It's just like duck, duck, goose, but the person chooses someone's lap to sit on. They ask the question and if the person smiles they become it.
Isabella: That sounds a little PG. How about the person chooses someone and ask the question do you want to kiss me. And if they do they kiss.
Isabella looks over at K.C. She stands up. She starts to walk around the group touching each person's shoulders. She stops at K.C and takes a sit on his lap. Kenzie tries to hide her discomfort.
Isabella: Baby, do you want to kiss me?
K.C: Yes.
Isabella leans in to kiss him. Kenzie quickly exits out of the room. Marcel stands and follows behind her.
Scene 13: Degrassi (Classroom). Morning
Brandon enters the classroom and makes his way to Ke'Anna.
Brandon: I've been looking for you.
Ke'Anna: Guess I'm found. How can I help you, Brandon?
Brandon takes a chair from the desk.
Brandon: I wanted to ask you out on a date.
Ke'Anna begins to laugh. She notices that Brandon is getting upset.
Ke'Anna (flirtatiously): I'm not the dating type of girl.
The bell rings. Brandon rises from the chair and exits the classroom. This was her game and she's interested. Ke'Anna smiles as she watches him leave.
Scene 14: Degrassi (Outdoor Picnic Area). Afternoon
Kenzie and Marcel are eating their lunches when Carina joins them. She notices that the pair is glaring out Isabella and K.C flirting with each other on the Degrassi steps.
Kenzie: I hate her!
Carina: Isabella isn't a bad person. I just don't think she knew that you liked K.C.
Marcel: She is definitely the Heather to your Veronica. Then that makes K.C totally JD, which in turn means he's no good for you anyway.
Carina and Kenzie look at Marcel with confusion.
Kenzie: Maybe you're right. I'm over him. His lost.
Isabella enters the school. Kenzie, Marcel, and Carina make their way across the street to the school. K.C smiles at Kenzie then opens the door for her.
K.C: I hate that you left my party.
Marcel intertwines his arms with hers pulling her inside the school. Carina gives him a scowl as she follows behind.
Scene 15: Degrassi (Halls). Afternoon
Decker is walking the halls. He notices Jack sitting on the floor. He was deep in thought. He makes his way inside.
Decker: Hey.
Jack: Hey.
Decker: I just wanted to check on you. It looks like something is on your mind.
Jack: There is a lot on my mind right now.
Decker takes off his book bag and takes a seat next to Jack.
Jack: You don't have to worry about me. I'm fine.
Decker: Clearly your not or you wouldn't be sitting here.
Jack: Emma was offered a new job. It's a great opportunity for her, but it would mean I'll have to leave Degrassi and I don't want to do that. It sounds so selfish, but I made friends here and Jordan's here.
Decker: I get it. You feel a connection here. Maybe you should just let your sister know that. She's pretty cool and understanding.
Jack: You might be right.
Decker: That's a first.
They both begin to laugh. Things between the two finally felt normal.
