Season Five

Episode 8

"Sorry Not Sorry"

Scene 1: Degrassi (Hall). Afternoon

Brandon and Ke'Anna are kissing against the lockers. The school bell rings.

Ke'Anna: Find me after your class.

Brandon: I have to meet Xavier and some of the team after school, but I can meet up with you tonight.

Ke'Anna grabs Brandon's shirt and pulls him in closer. She kisses him then pushes him away. Brandon smiles as he walks off down the hall. He turns the corner to see Manny standing there in disappointment.

Manny: I heard about the auction. You had a relapsed, Brandon. You've been hanging around Ke'Anna and I don't think…

Brandon (interrupting): I don't need you judging me, Manny. I'm not the only one with a drug problem in this school. You need to focus on your sobriety and not mines.

Brandon brushes pass Manny. Manny takes a deep breath trying to remain calm. He is worried.

OPENING CREDITS

Scene 2: Degrassi (Cafeteria). Afternoon

Lily leads the Power Squad into the cafeteria. She snaps her fingers and the girls disperse. They are going around the cafeteria handing out flyers to the students. Kenzie approaches the table where her friends are. She takes a seat and slides the flyer to Carina.

Kenzie (excitedly): The Power Squad has an opening now due to Hanna Sinclair breaking her leg. You should try-out, Care.

Carina: I don't think I am Power Squad material.

Carina slides the flyer back to Kenzie. Marcel grabs and looks at the flyer with curiosity. Lily approaches their table.

Lily: This is not a social hour, Kenzie. These flyers are not going to hand themselves out.

Kenzie sighs in frustration as she waves goodbye to her friends.

Marcel: Do you think I should try out?

Isabella appears about Marcel. She snatches the flyer from his hand and joins their table.

Isabella: I think you should. Don't you think so, Rinibini?

Carina: I think it might cause problems. You heard about Principal Nelson's brother. He was attacked because he's gay.

Isabella: I think he's bisexual and I don't think that should stop you from doing something you want.

Marcel: How about both of you come to tryouts with me?

Isabella and Marcel turn to Carina with big eyes and smiles. Carina hesitantly agrees with a nod. Marcel and Isabella shriek in excitement.

Scene 3: Degrassi (Parking Lot). Afternoon

Brandon and Ke'Anna are kissing in the backseat of Brandon's car. He starts to unbutton her shirt. She smiles as they continue to kiss. They hear a knock on the window. They both look up to see Harriet. Ke'Anna laughs as she buttons her top.

Harriett: This is not only against school policy but also against the lord.

The couple gets out of the car.

Ke'Anna: Maybe it's against the lord not to have sex.

Harriett prepares to speak but Brandon cuts her off.

Brandon: We do not need you quoting a bible verse to us right now.

Harriett: Just don't let it happen again. I will have to report you to Principal Nelson.

Harriett proceeds to walk off. Brandon and Ke'Anna burst into laughter.

Ke'Anna: I think something is wrong with her.

Brandon presses Ke'Anna body against his. They start to kiss. A mysterious guy appears in the distance. He observes them from becoming upset. He quickly leaves before being caught.

Ke'Anna: We should get to class before she comes back.

Ke'Anna takes ahold of Brandon's hand and leads him to the school.

Scene 4: Degrassi (Gymnasium). Afternoon

Students are stretching and practicing their routines. Marcel enters the gym feeling intimated and nervous. Carina is beside him feeling anxious. She felt that she did not belong with this crowd. Kenzie notices her friends and runs towards them.

Kenzie: I'm glad you are here.

Kenzie mood shifts as Isabella joins the group.

Isabella: Sorry I'm late.

Kenzie pulls Carina aside.

Kenzie: Why is she here?

Carina: Marcel wanted Isabella and me here to support him.

Kenzie: Marcel? Marcel trying out for the Power Squad?

Kenzie lets out a burst of laughter. Marcel overhears this and runs out of the gym. Carina looks at Kenzie with disappointment. She follows behind Marcel.

Scene 5: The Dot. Afternoon

Manny picks up his drink from the counter. The mysterious guy who was watching Ke'Anna and Briana enter the Dot. Manny knows him and doesn't have a welcoming look on his face.

Maddox: If it isn't my former runner, Manny.

Manny: What do you want, Maddox?

Maddox: I just got out of juvie and wanted to check on my girl Ke'Anna, but she's with some new punk at Degrassi. If only if I knew someone there.

Manny sense trouble brewing.

Manny: Leave it alone, Maddox. She's moved on.

Maddox slides his hand into Manny's jacket pocket.

Maddox: A little welcome home gift. We're having a get together at the ravine. You should stop by like old times.

Maddox smiles and leaves out of the Dot. Manny goes into his pocket. He pulls out a small bag of pills. He looks at the door to see Maddox has disappeared out of sight. Manny puts the pills back into his pocket.

Scene 6: Degrassi (J.T. Memorial Garden). Afternoon

Amina passes by the memorial garden. She notices Marcel in the corner upset. She proceeds to enter the room.

Amina: Are you okay?

Marcel: Why can't things be normal for me? I wanted to try out for Power Squad, but if I do then I'm labeled the gay cheerleader. I just wanted to do it because it's fun.

Amina wraps her arms around Marcel.

Amina: You are the gay cheerleader, but you should let other people's opinions dictate who you are. Our sexuality doesn't define us. Now get up and go kill them auditions.

Marcel gets a boost of confidence. Amina helps him off the ground.

Scene 7: Degrassi (Gymnasium). Afternoon

The Power Squad along with the students auditioning performs the choreographed routine. Marcel is executing every move perfectly. Carina is having trouble keeping up, but she is enjoying herself. Kenzie's eyes are locked on Isabella who is killing the choreography. The music stops.

Shay: That was great! You all did a good job.

Lily: I need the best of the best and all of you were subpar. An announcement will be made tomorrow.

Shay: Marcel I think is the obvious Power Squad could use his muscles.

Lily: He would be the only guy on the team. We can't build routines around him. We need a mascot.

Shay rolls her eyes. The group of people starts to disperse. Marcel grabs his bag off the bleachers. He turns around to see Kenzie quietly standing there.

Kenzie: I'm sorry, Marcel.

Marcel ignores her and joins Isabella and Carina. Kenzie felt abandoned by her friends.

Scene 8: The Ravine. Night

Manny navigates his way through the ravine. People crowd around the bonfire. Manny notices Lily sitting alone and upset. Manny is handed a cup by one of the partiers. He takes a seat next to Lily. They look across the fire to see Ke'Anna sitting on Brandon's lap making out.

Lily scoffs and rolls her eyes.

Lily: I am attracted to jerks. He's over there making out with some bimbo and I'm sitting her single. He looks happy. He never looked happy with me. Half the time I guess he was high on painkillers.

Manny looks at his cup and contemplates drinking. Lily takes notice.

Lily: I'm sorry. Aren't you like in rehab or something.

Manny snaps out his daze. He pours out the contents of the cup.

Manny: I'm not in rehab anymore. I have been sober for six months.

Lily: I know it must be hard. I heard some rumors that you use to like hanging out with this crowd.

Manny shakes his head. He rises from his seat and starts to walk off. Lily knew she said the wrong thing as always.

Scene 9: The Ravine. Night

Brandon and Ke'Anna are walking towards his car. Brandon is stumbling and intoxicated. Ke'Anna pauses.

Ke'Anna: I think I left my purse back at the party. You stay here and I'll go grab it.

Ke'Anna kisses Brandon before running back towards the party. Brandon leans against the car in hopes of keeping his balance. He hears some noise coming from around him. Maddox and his crew appear and surround Brandon.

Brandon looks around. He quickly senses trouble. Maddox smiles as he steps closer to Brandon.

Brandon: I don't want any trouble man.

Maddox: I feel as if you take me as a joke. I don't like to be played with.

Brandon: Ke'Anna can make her own decisions and so can I. We're together now so I'm sorry, but you are going to have to wrap your head around that.

Maddox starts to laugh. He looks around at his crew, who are also starting to chuckle. He steps back as if he was going to walk away but quickly jabs his fist into Brandon's stomach. Brandon falls to the ground.

Maddox: Ke'Anna is mine, but maybe we can work something out. I heard you had a little drug problem. I want you to sell some of my products.

Brandon: Sorry, but I'm not a drug dealer.

Maddox: He's not a drug dealer, fellas!

Brandon tries to raise himself from the ground, but Maddox kicks Brandon. Brandon moans in pain as he lies on the ground.

Maddox: I think you might have been confused. It wasn't optional.

Maddox and his crew leave. Brandon works back to his feet. Ke'Anna gleefully returns with her purse.

Ke'Anna: I found. Are you ready to go?

Brandon smiles as Ke'Anna hugs him. He silently takes the pain. In the distance, he sees Maddox smiling in enjoyment.

Scene 10: Degrassi (Outside The Gymnasium). Morning

Shay approaches a crowd of anticipating students. She tapes a list onto the door. She quickly steps aside as students surround her. Student's steps back with various reactions. Carina takes hold of a nervous Marcel's hand. They walk towards the list.

Carina (relived): I didn't make the team!

Marcel remains speechless. Carina takes another look at the list.

Marcel: I didn't make it.

Shay approaches from behind.

Shay: I tried. Lily just didn't want to make a change.

She walks off. Marcel turns around to see Kenzie making her way towards the gym. She smiles, but Marcel was still upset. Carina waves as she trails behind Marcel.

Scene 11: Degrassi (Hall). Afternoon

Manny opens his locker. He starts to gather his belonging. The bag of pills falls to the floor. Isabella arrives and picks them up.

Isabella: Here's the party.

Manny reaches for the pills, but Isabella yanks them away.

Manny: I need those back.

Isabella: I think I'll hold on to these.

Isabella walks off. Manny slams his locker shut in frustration.

Scene 12: Degrassi (Classroom). Afternoon

Students begin to enter the class. Brandon takes a seat at his desk. He turns around to see Ke'Anna blowing a kiss his way.

Student (whispering): I heard you got a stash. You think I can buy some.

Brandon is confused. He tries to ignore the student, but he's persistent.

Brandon (whispering): I'm not a drug dealer! Leave me the hell alone before we have a problem.

Student: Maddox said you were dealing.

Brandon raises his hand to get the teacher's attention.

Brandon: Can I get the pass for the bathroom?

Brandon gathers his things and exits the class.

Scene 13: Degrassi (Parking Lot). Afternoon

Brandon exits Degrassi and makes his way across the street into the parking lot. Maddox is leaning against his car.

Maddox: I've been waiting for you. I heard you turned down a client looking to score.

Brandon: I'm not selling drugs for you.

Maddox: I told you that this arrangement was not an optional one.

Brandon opens his door, but Maddox closes it. He slightly lifts his shirt revealing a gun at his waist.

Brandon: You're going to shoot me on school property?

Maddox: I was thinking of someone we both know.

Brandon: Ke'Anna stays out of this.

Maddox smiles as he covers his gun. Brandon looks around to make sure no one can see him.
