Episode 16
"Walk Like A Man"
Scene 1: Mason's Home (Living Room). Night
Jack enters the house laughing as Decker follows behind. Emma and Spinner are watching tv when they hear Jack moving towards the stairs.
Spinner: How was the date?
Spinner turns around to see both Jack and Decker by the steps.
Spinner: And what do we have here?
Emma turns around to see the boys.
Decker: Hey, Mr. and Mrs. Mason.
Emma: The door stays open, Jack.
Jack: We know. Can we go now? You're being embarrassing right now, Emma.
Spinner: Good seeing you, Decker.
Jack and Decker make their way up the stairs.
Emma: Embarrassing? Can you believe Jack said that I'm embarrassing, Spin?
Spinner starts to chuckle as he pulls Emma closer into his arms.
OPENING CREDITS
Scene 2: Mason's Home (Jack's Room). Night
Decker falls onto the bed as Jack quietly starts to close the door.
Decker: Didn't Emma say the door stay open?
Jack smiles as he takes off his shirt.
Decker: You're a bad boy Jack Simpson.
Jack crawls into the bed and begins to kiss Decker. The two continue to kiss until Jack starts to pull away.
Decker: What's wrong? Does my breath stink? I know I should have never got that onion deep.
Jack starts to laugh as he takes a seat on the bed.
Jack: Your breath smells fine, babe, but I was just wondering why I never been to your house or met your parents.
Decker smiles disappear. He sits up beside Jack.
Decker: My parents don't know about you. They don't know about us.
Jack is in disbelief. He rises from the bed and begins to pace, trying to process what he was hearing.
Jack: We've been together for a while, Decker. How do they not know we're together?
Decker: My dad is not like your sister or Spinner. I can't tell him that I have a boyfriend.
Jack (shocked): Wow!
Decker: I'm sorry, Jack.
Decker tries to take hold of Jack's hand, but Jack pulls away from him. Jack moves towards and opens the door. Decker stands in front of the door. He kisses Jack on the cheek before proceeding to leave.
Scene 3: Degrassi (Main Foyer). Morning
Isabella enters Degrassi. She notices K.C, along with some members of the football team, joking around. They lock eyes with each other. Manny approaches beside her.
Manny: Staring from across the hall isn't going to clear your head.
Isabella: Excuse me?
Isabella turns towards Manny.
Manny: If you want to get over an ex, you should find something else to occupy your time.
Manny proceeds to walk off. Isabella starts to make her way down the hall when Marcel approaches.
Marcel: I just heard that there's an opening on the Power Squad again now that Lily has Regina George her way off the team.
Isabella: Maybe this would be a good distraction, but I didn't make the team before. I don't want to get my hopes up.
Marcel: I can go with you for support if you want. Maybe I'll try out again and make the team as well.
Isabella: I love you, Mars, but I don't want you to get your hopes up either.
Marcel nods in agreement.
Marcel: You're probably right, but you're signing up. I don't want any excuses!
Marcel proceeds to drag Isabella down the hall.
Scene 4: The Dot. Morning
Jordan places a to-go drink in front of Red, whose attention is on an envelope in his hand.
Jordan: What's in the envelope?
Red: It's a decision letter for Concordia University. It's my top choice of universities to go to next year.
Jordan (excited): What are you waiting for? Open the letter!
Red sighs as he begins to open the letter. Red skims the letter.
Jordan: So, what does it say? Did you get accepted?
Red (disappointed): I didn't get in.
Red gives the letter to Jordan, who begins to read it for himself.
Red: Alicia and I had this plan to go together. Alicia already got early admittance.
Jordan: I think you and Alicia will figure it out.
Red: Thanks, man. I should head out.
Red grabs his drink and proceeds to exit the Dot.
Scene 5: Degrassi (Hallways). Afternoon
Jack gathers his belongings out of his locker as Decker approaches with reluctance.
Decker: Are you still ignoring me, Jack? I told you my relationship with my father is complicated.
Jack slams his locker shut.
Jack: I thought when we decided to be together again, things were going to change.
Decker: And they are, Jack, but you need to understand that everybody isn't going to accept us. I would've never thought that my boyfriend would try to pressure me.
Decker couldn't bring himself to continue the conversation. Alicia approaches, confused.
Alicia: Everything okay with you two?
Jack (sighs): I don't know anymore. I don't want to bother you with my love life.
Alicia smiles as she rolls her eyes. She locks arms with Jack, and they begin to walk.
Alicia: You are my best friend, Jack, and you're important to me.
Jack: Decker hasn't come out to his father yet.
Alicia becomes intrigued as they continue to walk down the halls.
Scene 6: Degrassi (Athletic Field). Afternoon
The Power Squad is stretching on the field. Isabella and Marcel join the others on the turf.
Shay: Welcome to the Power Squad.
Isabella and Marcel look at each other in disbelief.
Isabella: You don't need us to try out?
Shay: Nope! I remember the routine you did earlier this year. You both have high energy and will add something unique to the squad.
Marcel: You only want me on the team to be the mascot.
Shay: I was wondering if you can assist as squad manager.
Marcel (excitedly): I'll take it! I would've taken a mascot.
Marcel quickly runs over to Kenzie. The two shrieks in excitement over the good news. Shay pats Isabella on the back as she makes her way over to the rest of the squad. Isabella tries to hide her excitement.
Isabella pulls her phone out and sends a text. She goes over to the rest of the team.
Scene 7: Degrassi (Student Council Office). Afternoon
Red knocks on the door, alerting Alicia. He proceeds to enter the room.
Alicia: I cannot wait for spring break. No more meetings or planning committees. It'll be you and me all alone.
Alicia wraps her arms around Red. Red pulls away from her and takes a seat on one of the desks. Alicia can tell something was on his mind.
Alicia: I can tell something is up. Just talk to me.
Red: I just have a lot on my mind. My dad's been picking up extra shifts, and lately, my marks haven't been too good. I probably should focus on studying, which means I need for us to take a break.
Alicia steps back with confusion.
Alicia: A break? I'm not understanding.
Red: I didn't get into Concordia.
Alicia: Red…I'm sorry, but nothing needs to change between us.
Red rises and begins to pace.
Red (upset): Concordia was my last option. I haven't gotten any other acceptance offers. It's bad enough I can barely afford university next year. I need to focus on studying and bringing my marks up. I need to pick up Kasey. I'll call you.
Red kisses Alicia on the cheek before exiting the room.
Scene 8: Jones Residence. Night
Isabella enters her home. She notices suitcases by the door. Isabella makes her way further into the house to see her mother Mia Jones sipping a glass of wine. Isabella is in disbelief.
Mia: Bonjour ma fille!
Isabella: Mother? What are you doing here?
Mia: I heard that my beautiful daughter just joined the Power Squad.
Isabella: How do you even know about that? And you can't just show up after months of being away.
Mia: I am still your mother, Munchkin.
Isabella: You could have fooled me.
Isabella storms away, leaving Mia speechless and hurt.
Scene 9: Degrassi (Classroom). Morning
Jack, Alicia, and other students begin to file into the classroom. Alicia takes a seat at the desk adjacent to Jack.
Alicia: Have you spoke to Decker?
Jack: Did you speak to Red?
Alicia: How did we get here?
Jack: Ugh, I thought Decker and I were finally in a good place. I just don't want any more drama between us.
The bell rings, and the class begins.
Scene 10: Degrassi (Hallways). Morning
Isabella approaches K.C at his locker. K.C can see that Isabella is upset.
K.C: You look upset.
Isabella: Mia is back.
K.C: Your mother? I thought she was still in France.
Isabella: You're not the only one. She's back because she heard that I'm now on the Power Squad. My mother is the devil.
K.C wraps Isabella in his arms, comforting her. In the background, Kenzie and Carina spot the two of them in their embrace.
Kenzie: Ugh! She's sticking her claws back into K.C.
Carina: Let's just go.
Carina tries to hide her disappointment. She and Kenzie continue down the hall. Isabella steps away, trying to get herself together.
Isabella (sniffling): I'm sorry.
K.C: I know how it is, Belles.
Isabella: I think you have a real chance with Carina, so you better not mess it up, or I'll be coming after you.
Isabella smiles and walks away.
Scene 11: The Black's Apartment. Afternoon
Decker opens the door to his apartment. He quickly runs towards the back room. Mr. Black enters the apartment. He hears some ruffling coming from the room.
Mr. Black: Decker!
Decker: Yeah, it's me, Pop.
Mr. Black drops his keys on the table and picks up the pile of mail.
Mr. Black: Shouldn't you be at school, boy?
Decker comes from the back to see his father standing there, and he becomes nervous.
Decker: I need to talk to you, Pop.
Mr. Black: Alright. You sound serious. That's never good.
Mr. Black takes a seat on the couch and braces himself.
Decker: I've been seeing someone.
Mr. Black: That's my boy! Who is the lucky girl?
Decker pauses for a moment. Mr. Black's phone begins to ring, interrupting the conversation.
Mr. Black: Hold that thought I'll be right back.
He rises from the couch and proceeds to the back. Decker quickly runs out of the apartment, losing the courage to tell his father.
Scene 12. Degrassi (J.T Yorke Memorial Garden). Afternoon
Alicia observes Red sketching by himself. She proceeds to enter and takes a seat beside him.
Alicia: I'm not ready to give up on us.
Red stops his sketching.
Red: The taking a break thing was a little premature, but I'm not good enough for you. You deserve someone who's going to match your ambition. I don't want to drag you down.
Alicia: I don't care if you go to university next year or not. I care about you, Red.
Red: Can you forgive me for being a complete and utter jerk?
Alicia: Of course.
The two of them smile at one another.
Scene 13: The Dot. Afternoon
Jack enters the Dot and goes behind the counter. Jordan exits from the back to see Jack standing before him. He quickly tries to escape and running towards the door.
Jack: You're still avoiding me, Jor?
Jordan takes a deep breath and turns around to face Jack.
Jordan: Avoiding you? I wouldn't do that.
Jack moves closer to Jordan.
Jack: You haven't spoken to me since we broke up. I miss my best friend. Plus, if Alicia and I can be friends, why can't you and I.
Jordan (hurt): It's not that easy, Jack. I have had feelings for you for the last five years. I can't just turn them off and go back to being your friend or hearing about you and Decker.
Jack: I know, and I get it.
Decker enters the Dot.
Jordan: I'll let you guys talk.
Jordan goes to the back. Decker takes a seat at the counter.
Decker: I tried to talk to my dad today.
Jack becomes more interested.
Decker: I told him that I was in a relationship, but I didn't get a chance to say who it was. I know you want more from me, Jack, but I'm not ready to tell him.
Jack moves closer to the counter and takes hold of Decker's hand.
Jack: I understand. I'm sorry for pressuring you. That's the last thing that I wanted to do. I just felt like you were not telling your dad about us because you're embarrassed to be with me.
Decker (sincerely): Hey! Listen to me. I am not embarrassed by you or to be with you. I love you, Jack.
Jack smiles as he leans over the counter to kiss Decker.
