[Cue Voice Over monologue]

Hello world, it is me, Bella Swan. Who am I? Well, I'm a typical teenage girl, living it up in Forks, Washington. You've probably never heard of it, and honestly, neither had I until my father drug us here from Phoenix, Arizona to take up post as the Sheriff here. My mom? Well, she's another story, and one that I rather not venture into at the moment. My life is just ordinary. Simply put, just ordinary. I'm seventeen and awkward, but somehow, I have managed to turn the heads of several kids at my school. I honestly don't see what they see in me, but I ignore it for the most part. I have one friend. His name is Jake. He sees me for me. That peculiar, small, almost woman, who just likes books, and being alone. His tribe neighbors our small town of Forks, and he used to live in La Push, but his dad died, and so he got thrown into the foster care system and ended up staying with me and my dad. Since he's a sheriff, he's also an emergency foster. Typically, he would have stayed on the reservation, but he got swallowed by some weird loophole, and until they can place him with a family on the reservation, he's here, with me. He's sixteen, and a giant compared to me. He's fun to hang around with, and well, honestly, I don't think he really wants to go back to the reservation. He refers to it as the 'rez'. I think he's just trying to be 'hip' and 'cool'. Either way, enough about me. Take a look at my story. A boring, one, but a story, that unravels my very being as it progresses.

[Forks, Washington: October 5th, the start of homecoming week]

The small town of Forks was rainy, and cold. It was October, and you could see your breath hit the air. Yet, the kids here, seemed to think that light jackets were acceptable for this sort of weather. It was the typical start to any high school morning. The starting week of homecoming was boisterous, as were the people. The school spirit was insanely high, and here was little ol' Bella, normal. Plain, long sleeved, dark navy shirt, her puff vest, and winter coat to help shield her thin frame from the unyielding cold of the October air. She was tiny, and anemic, so she was easily thrown into a shivering fit, if she didn't have adequate heat.

"Hey Bella!" Mike Newton, the fun-loving, theater kid, with shaggy blonde hair, and light navy eyes, was friendly with everyone, and part of the popular crowd. He liked Bella. Bella was oblivious to the notion that any boy would like her, so she just politely talked back to him. Keeping up in conversation from time to time.

"Mike," Bella greeted, a small smile on her face, as she carried her heavy Biology, AP Algebra, and Sociology book in her arms to her next class, Biology.

"Hey, let me take those," Mike said, taking her books from her and carrying them for her.

"Uh, thanks."

"So, what are you doing for homecoming?" Mike hinted.

Bella smiled, crossing her arms awkwardly. "Well, I was thinking about going into Portland and going to a new bookstore that I wanted to check out."

Mike frowned. "That doesn't sound like fun. Is it something that you can reschedule?"

Jake appeared like a godsend, throwing an arm around Bella's shoulder casually. "Hey Bells, are we still going to Portland Friday?"

"Yeah," Bella said with a grin.

Mike got a bit flustered but cleared his throat. "Oh, well, maybe another time. Uh, here you go Bella." He said, handing back her books as they reached the Biology room, and Mike darted away.

"Wimp," Jake scoffed, and smiled back at Bella, then ruffled her hair, like normal. "You do know that he likes you."

"Mike? No, he's just friendly." Bella waved a hand, dismissing it. "Anyways, thank you, for pretending to come to Portland with me. I have Biology and you have History II, so I will see you later." She said, punching his arm lightly.

Jake beamed. "Alright, alright. Catch you later Bells." He said and he went down the hall to his History class, walking in, and disappearing out of sight.

After Biology, lunch was next. Biology was always so uninteresting to her, and she had already done Biology at her old school, so she was just recapping in this class. She got her tray of food in the lunchroom, and walked to her usual spot, that will inevitably be interrupted by Mike and the squad, who typically joined her table during lunch. It was super rainy outside, and she suddenly wondered what it would be like back in Phoenix, away from all the harshness of rain.

Bella was staring out the window when a small group of kids wandered into the lunchroom. All of them were beautiful, stunningly so. The two older ones were perfectly sculped, one was blonde, her hair flawless, and her eyes a golden color. Her clothes were perfect too, expensive looking. The tall, strong looking brute of a guy with her was handsome, his perfect features equal to hers, his hair a darker blonde, nearly brown, and his eyes were golden as well. The next set was a pixie looking girl, with dark hair, her hair cropped shorter, and spikey, and her eyes matched the first two. The boy next to her was beautiful, his hair golden, and curly to his shoulder, and his eyes the same beautiful gold. He looked like he was in pain, but the pixie girl seemed to be smiling bright at him, as she tugged him along. The last guy was beautiful all on his own, exotic looking and his face so perfect, his bronze hair was glistening with the water droplets from the drizzling rain from outside and his eyes matched the others.

Jessica, the chattier one of the bunch, leaned in closer to gossip. "Those are the Cullen's. They just moved here from Alaska. The two beautifully perfect ones are Rosalie Hale, and Emmett Cullen. The other two are Jasper Hale, and Alice Cullen, and the loner is Edward Cullen. They're all step-siblings adopted by that new doctor and his wife."

"How is it you have all that information, and this is the first time seeing them?" Eric asked. Eric Yorkie, geek, nerd, or all the above. Extremely friendly, but also the one to ask the most questions.

"I have my resources," Jessica scoffed.

Bella looked away from the Cullen's and back to her table. She was curious about them.

"That's not all!" Jessica beamed. "There's another new guy. His name is Stefan Salvatore. He moved here from Virginia."

"So many new people…" Bella murmured. Just two months ago, she was the new kid, but she was just ordinary, these people were extraordinary.

The first bell sounded, startling Bella, but it was just the indication that lunch was over, and that everyone should move on to their next classes.

The end of the day was rather dull, and Bella walked out to her little Jeep that Charlie, her dad, had bought. It was dark blue, and an older model wrangler. It suited her well, and she rather liked that it was a bit rusty. She took her keys out of her pocket, and looked up at Jake as he groaned, walking around to the passenger side and climbing in.

"What's wrong with you?" Bella asked as she got into the driver's side, buckling up.

"I got a C on my test from last Friday." Jake whined.

"A C? That's not so bad."

Jake groaned. "I actually studied for that test Bells. What does that say about me? That I'm stupid."

Bella laughed out loud, smiling, one of the rarer moments. "Well, I'm sure it doesn't mean that. Everyone gets test anxiety from time to time."

"Mhm. What did you get on your Biology test?"

"A, but that's different, I've taken Biology already." Bella pointed out. She tried starting the Jeep, and it wouldn't kick over. "Great." She groaned and sat back in her seat.

"You know you should get a new car." Jake pointed out.

Bella made a face at him. "No, it just doesn't like the cold. She's used to the heat of Phoenix."

A boy appeared by her window, startling Bella, which made Jake bellow in laughter. She smacked his arm and rolled down her window.

"Car issues?" The boy asked. His hair was brown, russet looking, and his eyes were sparkling green, like dark meadow green.

"Yeah, it's not starting." Bella relayed.

"Pop the hood," he said, and she complied. He went around to the front and took a look. He wiggled the battery cable, and then shouted. "Try again."

Bella turned the key, and it tried to sputter to life, but no luck.

"Hold on, I have jumper cables in my car." The boy said and then he disappeared over a few places and got into an older looking Chevy and drove over in front of Bella's jeep, and popped his own hood. He went to the trunk and pulled out jumper cables and put them on her battery, and then on his own. "Okay, give it a few minutes." He said and walked over to her window.

Bella smiled. "Thank you for helping."

"No problem. Stefan Salvatore," he introduced, offering his hand.

She shook it and smiled. "Bella Swan. This is Jake Black."

Stefan smiled and nodded to Jake. "I think I saw you in my Algebra class." He said, and Jake nodded. "Yeah, you're the new guy transferred in today."

Stefan looked at his watch. "Go ahead and try again."

Bella turned the key, and her Jeep came to life. She sighed a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much Stefan, you really saved me a towing fee." She smiled a small smile.

"Of course. You might want to get your battery replaced. They make batteries that are able to withstand the cold better." He said, and unhooked the jumper cables, and shut her hood, and then own hood. "Be careful out there," Stefan said with a wave, and got in his car.

Bella waved back and then drove away from the school. "He was nice," she commented.

Jake snorted. "Yeah, he's the silent broody type. He doesn't talk much. Reminds me of the other new guy. Whatever his name is. He's strange too."

"I'm strange."

"No, you're just different Bells. You don't like people; these new people are just…weird. I don't know how to explain it," Jake said, waving his hand.

Bella just shook her head as she drove back towards their house. Charlie wasn't home when she pulled up in the driveway. "Dad must be working late tonight."

"Probably," Jake said, and got out of the Jeep and went inside, ahead of Bella.

Bella went inside and started working on dinner, getting it ready just as Charlie walked through the door.

"Hey kiddo, sorry I'm so late." Charlie said and hung his coat on the hook by the front door and sat at the table. Jake came down the stairs and took his seat at the table.

"It's okay," Bella said and set the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and mac n' cheese in front of her dad and Jake. She fixed herself a plate and sat down.

Charlie took a bite of the meatloaf. "This is so good." He said with a smile.

Jake nodded his agreement. Bella always made the best food.

"So, Jake, I spoke with Tiffany Call, and social services. She passed all the inspections, and interviews and she's willing to take you on as a foster." Charlie said, looking up at Jake.

"Embry's mom?" Jake asked. Embry had been a really good friend of his on the rez. "I don't know. Do I have to?"

Charlie looked a bit shocked. "No son, you don't have to. We can look at other- "

"Um," Jake played around with some of the food on his plate, not looking up. "What if I want to stay here? I promise not to be too- "

"That's fine too," Charlie said. "Jake, you're always welcome here. I'll always take care of you and look after you. If you don't want to go back to the rez, then you don't have to. You can stay here, and I'll tell social services to update this to a permanent foster."

Jake relaxed, nodding. "If it's not too much trouble."

"No trouble," Charlie said with a smile, taking another bite of his food.

"Thank you," Jake said, looking up at Charlie.

Bella smiled. "I've always wanted a little brother," she said, taking a bite of her own food.

Jake grinned, reaching over and ruffling her hair. "We're in the same grade, and I am bigger than you."

"But I am older." Bella pointed out.

"Barely," Jake said, smiling wide and taking another bite.

Charlie smiled. He knew taking in another teenager would be rough, but honestly, Jake was a great kid. He lost his mother at an early age, and then his father during a crucial part of his life. He was happy to step in and take him in, and honestly, he didn't know what he would do without him in his life. He was happy that Jake didn't want to go back to the rez.

[Cue, voice over]

Okay, I know what you're thinking. Super cute foster brother, living under the same roof, and Jake isn't that bad looking of a guy. Well, that is where you should stop your dirty minds. Jake is literally like my brother, and I could never imagine him anything other than that. I told you my life was just that, ordinary. Jake makes it a little less ordinary, and sometimes I wonder what life would have been without him, but honestly, I don't want to imagine a world without Jake. He was my best friend, and I don't think I could ask for a better one than that. Now, you have the Cullen's, a beautiful bunch of people who were so popular already, but the sibling group stayed to themselves, and never really struck up random conversation with anyone other than themselves. They were so graceful, and beautiful. Edward on the other hand. Hated me. I don't know what it was about me, but he just plain hated me. He tried changing his class to get away from being my Biology partner. I don't know what I did, or wore, to offend him, but honestly, who wants to be friends with a jerk like that? Well, he was incredibly beautiful. I suppose you'll eventually get to that point in my story, but I always get so, ugh, while this part of my story just plays out. Carry on though, remember, it's just a boring old story about little ol' me.

[Forks High School, Wednesday {Two days before Homecoming}]

"I don't know why he hates me," Bella said, closing her locker door and leaning against it. Jake leaned against his locker, next to hers.

"Bells, I think you're just overthinking it. He probably was just having an off day?" Jake offered some sort of explanation.

Bella shook her head. Why did she really care? "I don't know. I've never had someone look at me with such…disgust before. With any luck, I'll make it through Biology without offending him more. I just won't talk to him. Make it easier."

"Probably the best idea. See you later, gotta get to gym." Jake said and dashed away.

Bella sighed and then turned and started down the hall and ran into Stefan. Her books clashed to the floor and the two of them bent to pick them up, and the knocked heads.

"I'm so sorry," Stefan said with a slight laugh.

"No, I'm just not that graceful. I'm sorry for assaulting you," Bella said, and Stefan scooped her books up in his arms and stood with her. "I'll carry them. We have History III together." He said and they walked towards their class.

Bella smiled, tucking a strand of her dark hair behind her ear. "Thank you."

"Of course. So, you and Cullen huh?"

"What about him?"

"He's avoiding you?" Stefan asked with a raised brow.

Bella sighed. "I don't know. He's weird. We're biology partners and he's just so repulsed to sit next to me."

"Well, he's blind, or something. You're not repulsive at all. You're kind, smart, and pretty." Stefan complimented.

"I don't know about pretty," Bella blushed.

"Why not?" Stefan stopped and stopped her and turned her to look at him. His hand brushed her face gently as he swooped her hair back, and stared at her, smiling. "You are extraordinarily beautiful. A sort of exoticness lies behind your eyes. You just can't see it."

Bella stared into his green eyes, almost getting lost in them. Then she broke the trance and cleared her throat. They were outside their history class. "Well, thank you." She said, blushing slightly, and slipped her books out of his arms. "Thank you for carrying my books Stefan." She said and ducked into the class, with him behind her a moment later.

Biology class was next, and she was one of the first out of the room to get to her next class, so she could avoid Stefan. She sat down at the table and dreaded the class to start because that meant that Edward would be there.

She got her notebook out and then looked up as Edward took his seat next to her. He didn't try to scoot away from her, and he didn't act repulsed by her. She looked back down at her notebook, looking over her previous notes, ignoring his presence.

"H-hello." Edward spoke, and that made Bella look up at him, stunned that he actually spoke to her.

"Hello?"

"I'm Edward…Cullen."

"I know. Bella…Swan." She responded, still confused by his sudden friendliness.

Edward nodded. "I'm sorry, I didn't…mean to offend you or anything. I uh, I sometimes am not myself."

"Okay," Bella said and then looked up at the teacher entering the room with the other students, the bell sounding a moment later. Class began and so she turned her attention back to the class.

Edward stared at her off and on during the whole class when he thought Bella wasn't paying attention, but Bella knew that he was staring at her. It confused her as to why he was doing it. Maybe he was bipolar or something, and he really wasn't himself the other day.

The bell rang, and Bella collected her things and stood.

"I really am sorry." Edward said as he stood as well.

"It's okay, it's forgiven," Bella offered a small smile and then she walked out of the class, and Stefan was waiting, leaning against the wall. It startled her.

"I'm sorry," Stefan said with a laugh and took her books from her before she could protest.

"Do you always sneak up on girls?" Bella asked, raising a brow and the two started towards the cafeteria. Edward watched Stefan with Bella, and some sort of jealousy rose in him, and it confused him.

Stefan smiled. "No, I don't typically just sneak up on girls. I wanted to apologize for earlier, I didn't mean to…offend you."

"Two men apologizing me in one day, must be a record." Bella grumbled. "It's fine, I don't mind, I just…don't get many compliments.

They talked like this all the way to the cafeteria, where Stefan stood in line with her to get food.

"You know, I don't know much about you," Bella pointed out.

"Hmm. What do you want to know?" He said as they went to a table and sat down.

"Any siblings?"

"Yes."

"Brother or sister?"

"Brother. You?" Stefan asked, picking up his coke and taking a drink.

Bella nodded. "Foster brother, Jake Black."

Stefan smiled and laughed a little. "I thought he was your boyfriend, that makes me feel better."

"Boyfriend? I don't have a boyfriend." Bella said, and then Mike, Jessica, Angela, and Eric joined the table.

"I'm just saying that it wouldn't be hard to push for the exclusive for the paper," Eric said, arguing with Jessica as usual.

Jessica rolled her eyes. "I don't think that it's necessarily front-page material. It's just dumb animal attacks, and it has nothing to do with the school."

Stefan looked up at the sudden additions to the table. "Animal attacks?" He asked.

"Yes, animal attacks! They've been happening all over town. They keep saying they're animal attacks, but there's so many. Why is it happening?" Eric spieled, focusing on Stefan now.

Jessica rolled her eyes. "Don't give in to his bull Stefan, he's just grasping at straws."

"It's not bull! It's a real problem! What would make that many animals start attacking our citizens, and where in our town history has this happened regularly huh? Explain that Jessica." Erica bit back.

Stefan looked at Bella and leaned in so she could hear him. "Are they always like this?"

"Yes," Bella said with a smile.

He grinned back at her; his white smile was perfect. "Do you want to skip out on lunch?"

"Please." She said and stood, with Stefan. "I'll ask my dad about the animal attacks Eric."

Eric smiled brightly. "That would be amazing! Thank you, Bella!" He exclaimed and then Bella smiled back, and she left with Stefan.

They walked past the Cullen table, and Edward stared at the two as they left the lunchroom. It was just overcast today, so they walked outside to just take a seat outside on one of the courtyard picnic tables.

"So, there have been many animal attacks?" Stefan asked as they sat down.

"Well, I suppose so. I haven't paid that much attention to it. I know that animals do behave strangely sometimes. I don't know. It's something I'll just ask my dad about. He might be able to shed some more light on the situation." She said, picking up her apple and taking a bite.

"It is interesting though. I know I'm new to town, but I do want to keep up with what is going on." Stefan said, and then smiled. "Bella,"

Bella set her apple down. "Hmm?"

"I hope this isn't too forward, but if you're not going to homecoming with anyone, would you go with me? I'm still so new, and it would help to go to an event like that with a friend at least." Stefan smiled, hopeful that she would say yes.

"I don't do dances. I have two left feet, and with that many people. I've also seen the movie Carrie, way too many times." Bella said matter-of-factly.

Stefan smiled. "I see," he looked down at the table.

Bella studied him a moment and then sighed. "Okay. I'll go, but I'm not dancing and we're not doing the matching thing."

Stefan smiled wide. "Really? Isn't that the best part?"

Bella rolled her eyes. "No. It's too cliché." She smiled, standing with her tray, and he took it from her. He dumped the food in the trash and brought the tray inside and set it in its designated spot. He took Bella's books from her and they walked from the cafeteria, gathering a few stairs, as Stefan walked closely with her, and they were smiling at each other.

Jessica leaned in and spoke lowly to Angela. "Stefan hasn't even talked to a lot of other classmates, but talks to her?"

Angela shrugged. "Bella is nice, pretty, and friendly. She listens to people when they have ideas or want to talk." She said, a bit more venom in her voice than she intended. It was a jab at Jessica, and her inability to realize that there are more than just her that want to talk. She got up from her spot, hearing the first bell, and started to class.

The day ended relatively easy, with no hiccups in her day. She went to her locker and opened it, shoving her books inside, and taking the History book so she could do her study guide for the test Friday. She shut her locker and Edward was there, and she jumped.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you." Edward said, a smile turned up on his face.

"It's okay. I'm just not used to people standing next to my locker." She smiled back.

Jake came up behind her, slinging his arm over her shoulder and whining. "It's only Wednesday."

Bella laughed. "Tomorrow is Thursday, then it'll be Friday. Don't you have football practice?"

"Yes. I'm going now…set my food in the microwave. I'll be home after practice." He said, straightening.

"Will do." She said and watched him bound off.

Edward watched Jake leave and then turned his attention back to Bella. "He's your brother?"

"Foster brother. I believe dad is thinking about adopting him officially." She said with a smile.

Eric swung by her locker. "Hey Bella, are you still going to ask your dad about the animal attacks?"

"Yes. I'll ask him about it and see if he can't do an interview for the school paper." Bella answered with a small smile.

"Thanks Bella, you're the best," Eric said and then he was running after Angela, following her out to the parking lot.

"You have a lot of friends." Edward commented.

Bella shrugged. "I'm just polite." She started walking towards the parking lot, Edward walking beside her. "I was new here too, two months ago. I understand how you must feel, being the new kid and all. At least you have your siblings with you to make the transition a bit easier."

"Yeah, I'm used to moving around a lot. I don't typically make new friends when I move. It's pointless." He explained.

"But you want to be my friend?" Bella asked, unsure.

Edward was silent. "I'm not the best of people to hang around. You shouldn't be my friend."

"And if I want to be your friend?"

"Then I'll have to try harder to be a good friend." Edward said with a shrug.

Bella smiled, "Well, you should try to be good all the time. Don't be slacking." She joked. She looked up at her Jeep, Stefan was leaning against it. "I'll see you tomorrow," she said and waved at Edward and walked over to her Jeep. She smiled at Stefan. "So, where's your car?"

"I didn't drive today." Stefan smiled.

"Really? How'd you get to school."

"Bus."

"What's wrong with your car?"

"Nothing," Stefan was still smiling. He pushed away from the Jeep and opened the door for her. "Come on, let's go for a drive."

Bella smiled. "Where are we going?"

"Hmm. You'll see when we get there."

"Then shouldn't you drive?" She asked, holding up her keys.

"Well, if you insist," Stefan said, still smiling. He took the keys but went around to her passenger door and opened it for her. She got in and watched him do a half-jog around the front of the Jeep and get in the driver's side. He started the Jeep, her engine roaring to life. He put it in drive, and they pulled away from the parking lot.

Edward watched Stefan swoop Bella away from him. Her scent was driving him mad, and she just called to him. He had to be with her, he knew it, but knew that it was too risky. He wasn't sure what the right play here was. He didn't want to hurt her, yet he wanted to be more than just a friend with her. Stefan Salvatore was interrupting the connection he was trying to create with her. He got in his car, a silver Mercedes, and drove back towards his house that he shared with his family.

[Cue, Voice over]

Stop right there. Don't rewind, but just hit pause a moment. Edward Cullen is a beautiful creature, but his soul, isn't so beautiful. I'll just add that tidbit. Stefan is everything a knight in shining armor should be. He's perfect in every way. Connections are important to two people falling in love, but honestly, it's not supposed to be the focus point of any story, but it is however, the focus of this one. Every girl wants to find her prince charming, fall in love, get married, buy a house, have babies, and live happily ever after. Right? This is the typical scenario for most girls, my age. But I'm not a typical girl. There are so many variables that are a part of the story. You haven't gotten to that part, but you will. There are so many shocking things, that I lost count of how many times I was surprised, and I started expecting the unexpected at some point. But continue with my story, but I'll remind you, it's just an ordinary story about ordinary me.

[Special Spot, with a bangin' view]

Bella looked at the beautiful view overlooking the mountains. They drove up to this spot in the forest, that was part of the park. They had to hike a little way to this spot, but it wasn't too bad.

"This is just so beautiful," Bella murmured, just looking at how the trees were starting to change colors and the Ombre of reds, oranges, and yellows, looked like something out of a painting.

"I found this spot almost immediately when I came here. I like to find the best place to come and think." Stefan said, looking out over the view.

Bella smiled. "I think this is a great spot. Thank you for sharing it with me."

"Of course." Stefan smiled back at her.

They stood like that, quietly enjoying the scenery, and just each other's company. It was nice for a change to not have to be alone. The sun was starting to set, and it just made it that much more breathtaking.

A slight shiver went through the air, and forced a shiver through Bella, and Stefan took notice. "I should get you back. Do you mind dropping me off?" He asked with a laugh.

"Of course not," She smiled, and they hiked back down to her Jeep. The hike down was much faster than the hike up.

Stefan drove to his house, and Bella was in awe. His house was beautiful too.

"Oh wow." Bella murmured as she took in the colonial style looking house.

"Oh, the house? Yeah, my brother is a bit…much sometimes," Stefan said with a laugh.

"Well, it is a beautiful home. Your brother has excellent taste." She smiled, as she stood outside her Jeep, taking in the view. The house was really secluded, and she liked that about it. The seclusion.

Stefan turned to face her, leaning against her Jeep as he did. "Has anyone ever told you that your smile is beautiful?"

Bella laughed, blushing a little. "No. But thank you." She tried to hide her smile, but Stefan reached out and tilted her face back to him. She stared up into his green eyes, mesmerized by how they sparkled even with the fading sun.

She heard someone clear their throat and she blinked, looking over at another man. He was about the same height as Stefan. His hair was dark like pitch, but his eyes were the bluest of blues, almost like a blue ice color. He was beautiful, his skin smooth like porcelain, and he just looked…perfect.

Stefan rolled his eyes and glanced at him. "Damon, did you need something?"

"Oh, am I interrupting?" Damon feigned shock. He looked at Bella. "Damon Salvatore, Stefan's big bro."

"Bella Swan," She introduced. "Nice to meet you. You have an amazing house," she motioned to it.

Stefan was staring at his brother, annoyed but Damon was smiling now. "Why thank you Bella. I worked with this amazing architect to embody the perfect colonial style. Reminds me of my old house back in Virginia."

"You're from Virginia?" Bella thought that was interesting. "I have family in Virginia."

"Oh? Well, that is interesting." Damon said, looking over at Stefan. "Isn't it Stefan?"

Stefan sighed. "Ignore him. Yes, we're from Virginia. Mystic Falls."

"Oh! That's where my cousin lives. Her name is Elena Gilbert. Her mom is my dad's little sister. Well…she was. Elena's parents died last year." Bella explained.

"I know." Stefan said, his voice sad.

Bella looked at him curious. "You know my cousin?"

"We do. Elena's aunt Jenna, is married to my best friend." Damon explained.

"How is Elena? Oh, and Jeremy. He's the little brother. I haven't seen them in a few years." Bella said. "We were living in Phoenix before coming here."

Stefan nodded. "She's pretty okay. We weren't really close. Damon and Elena were closer."

Bella's phone rang and it startled her. She laughed. "Sorry," she said and answered. "Hey."

"You're not at home." Jake's voice sounded in her ear.

"Oh! Yeah, I'm with Stefan Salvatore. There is left over Lasagna in the fridge. I wasn't going to cook until tomorrow night. If that was okay?"

"Yeah, that's cool. I could eat your Lasagna forever. When will you be home in case Charlie asks?" Jake asked.

Bella shrugged. "I don't know. Not too long. Just tell him I'm with some friends, and I'll be home shortly."

"Will do. Be careful!" Jake said and hung up.

Bella turned back to Stefan. "That was Jake. He made it home before I did." She smiled.

"I'm sorry, I kept you out late." Stefan frowned.

"No no, it's fine. I was planning on just going to the library, and probably staying there late or something. I always pre-make dinner when I'm not going to be cooking the next night." She explained.

"Well did you want to come inside?" Damon asked. "That is, if you don't need to leave."

Bella thought about it, biting her bottom lip. "I should go ahead and head home for the night." She said with a smile and looked at Stefan. "Thank you again for showing me that spot. I'll probably steal it from you and go there from time to time to sketch."

"You draw?" Stefan asked, surprised.

"Some," She smiled, tucking a strange of her hair behind her ear when it fell forward.

Damon looked towards the trees. "Well, Bella, it was great meeting you. Do come back sometime," he said with an easy smile and then he turned away and walked back inside the house.

"Your brother is- "

"Strange." Stefan finished for her.

"I was going to say nice," She laughed.

Stefan laughed too. "He can be when he's in a good mood. You caught him at a good time."

"Well, it was nice to meet him. It's only fair since you've met my sort of brother," She pointed out.

He smiled, nodding. "Thank you."

Bella tilted her head to the side. "What for?"

"For just being…amazing."

She laughed and shook her head. "I'm not amazing. I'm just Bella."

"You're so much more," Stefan said, and then he leaned closer to her, his face closer to hers. "Is it okay if I kiss you?"

Bella's cheeks flushed, and she got nervous, but she nodded, biting her lip a little.

Stefan closed the distance between them, and his lips brushed hers softly. The energy that flowed between them, made her part her lips slightly, and he pushed forward, sliding his tongue against hers slowly, dragging the kiss out. He reached up with one hand and caressed her face gently, as he brought the kiss to a close. Layering another light kiss on her lips, before pulling away.

Bella's eyes fluttered open slowly. She felt almost drunk from the kiss, and it took her a minute to register her thoughts. It was her first kiss shared with someone, and she didn't realize that it could be like that. Her cheeks were flushed still, and Stefan stroked her cheek with the back of his hand.

"I'm sorry," He murmured.

Bella blinked a few times. "What for? You did nothing wrong."

"I just thought…" He trailed off and smiled. "Thank you for indulging me today. I will let you get back to your home now."

Bella nodded, swallowing. "Okay. I'll see you at school tomorrow," she said and turned to leave. She opened the door to her Jeep and cast one last look over at Stefan before she ducked inside. She started it up and then she drove away.

[Friday, Homecoming]

Bella looked at herself in the mirror. Naturally her dad was cautious about Stefan taking her to a dance, that he knew that Bella would never agree to under normal circumstances, but then again, his daughter was growing older, and boys would be trying to make their appearance.

She had to admit the dress was pretty. The deep royal blue was her favorite color, and the satin felt nice against her skin. It was a simple dress, really nothing to crazy, but for some reason, she still felt overdressed. She sighed, and then walked down the stairs where Stefan was sitting in the living room, waiting for her, with Charlie staring at him, eyes narrowed. Jake was dressed in a tux and was taking one of the cheerleaders to this thing.

Stefan and Charlie both stood when she appeared, the look on Stefan's face was priceless as his mouth dropped slightly, and his pupils dilated at the sight of her.

Charlie cleared his throat. "Okay kids. You guys go have fun. Don't be back too late." He said, looking at Bella. "You are beautiful," he said and stepped forward and hugged his daughter, kissing her temple. "Love you Bells."

"Love you too dad," Bella said with a smile.

Stefan smiled, stepping forward, and offered his arm, and Bella slipped hers in his, and Jake waved at Charlie as they walked out to Stefan's car, which was a nice car. Looked like an older porche of sorts. It was fancy. Jake got in the backseat, barely since he was so large, but he managed. Stefan opened Bella's door and helped her down into the car, before walking over to his door and getting in. They drove towards the school, ready for the festivities to begin.

There were so many people already there when the three of them got there. They got out of the car and Jake went to find his date right away.

Bella looped her arm with Stefan's, and they walked into the school's gym. A few heads turned as they made their entrance, one of those heads being Jessica, and the look on her face was just a little priceless. Mike Newton looked a little hurt, but he didn't say anything about Bella being there with someone else.

"You are quite popular here," Stefan said in her ear.

"I think they're just shocked that I actually came to this thing. Is that your brother?" Bella asked, spying Damon across the room.

Stefan sighed. "Of course, he would volunteer to be a chaperone for this thing."

Upbeat music was playing, and Eric was pulling Angela to the dance floor to enjoy some crazy dancing.

Bella just smiled at them, actually enjoying herself so far.

Damon wandered over towards Stefan and Bella. "Don't you look beautiful." He commented.

"Oh…thank you Damon, that's very nice of you to say."

Stefan raised a brow at his brother, and then smiled at Bella. "Come on, let's dance…one time." He said as slow music replaced the fast tempo one.

"I'm not a good dancer. I have two left feet. I swear." Bella said, but she followed Stefan out to the floor anyways. Stefan put one hand at her waist, the other clasped in her hand as he slowly rocked with her in a pattern, that she wasn't familiar with, but then eyes were on them, as they danced elegantly. Stefan was just smiling down at her, as he moved with her, until the music came to an end.

"See, you're not so bad. You just need someone who can lead well." Stefan said, smiling with a wink, leading her out to the dance floor. They danced together until the song ended, and surprisingly, Bella didn't step on his feet, and Stefan was a good dancer.

Bella smiled back at him, "Well, that wasn't so bad, and I don't think I stepped on your foot any." She said with a little laugh. "I am really thirsty now."

"I'll go get you something," Stefan said, and left her there to go fetch her a drink.

"You look beautiful," Edward's voice sounded from behind her.

Bella turned, looking at Edward. Her eyes captured his. The golden eyes were somewhat brighter than normal she noted, and he seemed to be a bit more relaxed and not as tense around her right now. She smiled. "Thank you."

"Don't mention it. It's true, the color suits you well." Edward said with an easy smile.

Bella smiled back at him. "Well, blue is my favorite color. Especially the dark blue." The music changed back to slow, and Edward extended his hand.

"May I?"

Bella smiled. "Sure, why not. I managed not to trample Stefan, I'm sure I can do it again." She said with a half laugh. She put her hand in Edward's and then they were dancing.

People stared at them as they moved. His dance was more formal than Stefan's it felt like, and she actually didn't hate it too much. He twirled her even, and did so smoothly, and that had her smiling, and laughing. She spun back into him, his arms around her. His body was hard, his skin a little cooler than she had expected, but she just smiled at him. He was charming, she had to admit.

The song ended, and Edward bowed to her slightly. "Thank you for the dance Bella. You are actually a great dancer."

"Well, I did take ballet when I was younger. I'm not completely inept at it, but I do have two left feet. I don't have great rhythm at all typically." Bella said and then Stefan appeared, holding a drink.

"I'm sorry I didn't make it back sooner. I saw you dancing and didn't want to interrupt." Stefan said, handing her a drink.

Bella smiled, taking the punch. "Thank you, Stefan you've met Edward Cullen?"

Stefan nodded. "Yeah, gym."

Edward nodded. "Indeed."

Damon sauntered over, sighing heavily, and overdramatic. "Are these dances always this boring?" He lifted his drink to his lips, taking a sip.

Stefan rolled his eyes. "If you're bored, go home."

"Mmm. But then I would be failing in my duties as the guardian of my little bro," Damon said, slapping Stefan on the back.

Bella smiled. "Well, I think that it's not so bad, and I don't like these sorts of things."

"Well, maybe it's because I have no one to dance with," Damon grumbled.

"I'll tell you what, I'll dance with you the next song," Bella offered.

"That's very sweet of you Bella, I would love to dance with you," Damon said with a smile.

Edward glanced up, and then looked back at Bella. "Thank you again for the dance, I'll see you around," he said with a slight bow and then he was off.

Stefan looked at Bella. "So, he doesn't hate you."

"I guess not, but still, he's odd, isn't he?" Bella asked.

"Oh, he's…definitely different," Damon commented.

"The same can be said about you," Bella pointed out.

A few songs played through and then another slow song came on, and so Bella, as promised, danced with Damon.

"So…you and Stefan?" Damon asked as they moved to the song playing overhead. 'Consider Me' by Allen Stone.

"Are friends?" Bella said with a laugh. "Why? Is this the overprotective brother talk?"

Damon smiled. "No, Stefan can do what he wants. I was just curious is all."

"Hmm. Curious huh. Well, Stefan is nice. I don't hate him." She tried to play it cool. Stefan was fantastic. He was a gentleman, and she did see a bright light when it came to him.

"Well, he would be lucky, if something transpired between the two of you. You are brilliant, Bella." Damon complimented.

Bella laughed. "I'm not sure I would say brilliant, but I am just Bella." She said with a shrug.

[Cue Voice Over]

There are not enough words to describe Damon Salvatore. Yes, he's hot. Yes, he's charming, and most of all, he was charismatic. I believe he could get anyone to follow him, with just his signature stare. But that wasn't the highlight of Homecoming.

The dance ended, and Damon gave her a little bow. "You are an exceptional dancer."

Bella smiled. "Thank you. Even if I know you don't mean it."

The rest of the dance was spent just laughing at some jokes that Stefan would say, and Damon would feed off of it. It was humorous to watch the brothers in action. Time was starting to get away from them, and people were starting to leave.

"Ah, that's our queue. I should get home. Thank you, Stefan, for dragging me to this thing. I know I said I wasn't going to dance, but I'm actually happy that we did." She said with a smile. She looked at Damon. "And thank you for the dance."

Stefan nodded. "Damon, I'll see you at home. I'm going to drive Bella home."

"Okay brother." Damon said with a white grin.

Stefan offered his arm, and Bella looped hers through his, and smiled as they walked out to the parking lot. "I'm glad you had a good time." He stiffened, and Bella frowned.

"What's wrong?" She asked, curious why he would stop walking suddenly, and stiffen up like that.

"Uh. Nothing. I'll be right back, I'm sorry," Stefan said and he went back inside the gym.

Bella wasn't sure what was going on. She pulled her phone out of her clutch and looked at it. It was eleven now. It didn't seem like it should be that late.

"Bella," Edward's voice called, and it startled her at first. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."

Bella smiled. "Oh, no. It's fine. I just wasn't expecting to see you. I thought you left earlier."

"I did. But I came back. You're alone. Did you need a ride home?" Edward asked.

"Uh-" she looked down at her phone when it dinged. It was Stefan.

[Stefan:] I have to help with something real quick with Damon, it'll be like half an hour.

Bella text him back quickly.

[Bella:] Don't worry. I'll catch a ride with a friend. I'll see you at school Monday.

Bella smiled at Edward. "Yes. A ride would be appreciated. Thank you."

Edward smiled and then walked with her to his car. It was an expensive Mercedes, but honestly Bella wasn't surprised. She knew that the Cullen's had a lot of money. He opened the car door for her, and she got in. He went around to his side and got in, closing the door. "Where's your house?" He asked, looking at the GPS.

Bella typed her address in, and the navigation system came alive, giving directions to Edward as he drove.

"Thank you for the dance," Bella said, to break the silence.

Edward smiled. "Well, I was glad that you let me. You came with Salvatore."

"Yeah, I wasn't going to come to this thing, but he convinced me it would be fun, and he was right." She said with a smile. She looked outside into the darkness, the shadows of trees passing by, before he turned, pulling onto her street. "I appreciate you bringing me home." She said as they pulled up at her house. The drive wasn't too far from the school to her house, which she was thankful for.

Edward smiled. "Of course. Hey…do you want to go to a movie with me sometime?" He asked.

"Maybe," Bella said, opening her door. "I'll see you Monday." She said and started to get out of the car, but he caught her hand. His hand was cold. She turned and looked back at him. "Hmm?"

"Uh…nothing, see you Monday." He said, releasing her hand, and watching her get out of the car and walk inside. She got upstairs and changed into her PJs and was reading a book when she heard a tapping at her window. She got up to investigate and saw Stefan. She smiled, shaking her head, and opened the window. "What in the world are you doing?" She said in a hushed voice.

Stefan climbed in through the window, shutting it silently behind him. "I wanted to make sure you got home okay."

"You could have text me."

"Yeah, but this was more fun." Stefan said, cracking another bright smile. "I'm sorry, that I had to help Damon."

"It's not a big deal, Edward brought me home." She said, going and sitting on the bed.

Stefan was smiling, and it faltered a little at the mention of his name, but he recovered. "Well, that's good." He came to sit on the bed next to her. "What book are you reading?"

"Weathering Heights, for English." She said, glancing over at her book. She looked back at Stefan. His green eyes were alluring, staring into her soul almost. She leaned forward then, her lips brushing his. Stefan let her kiss him, and he kissed her back.

The sudden groan from Jake's room had Bella leaning back and frowning. Her dad wasn't home yet, because he normally worked late nights. She got up and went to the door, and then Jake screamed like he was in pain. She rushed out, Stefan right behind her, to his room.

"Jake!" Bella gasped as he writhed in pain. He was sweating profusely.

"Bella, I hurt," He groaned.

Stefan frowned, stepping forward in front of Bella. "Jacob, we need to get you outside."

"What why? We need to call an ambulance!" Bella cried.

Jake shook his head, and then he growled, like something a wolf would do, and that had Bella's eyes going wide.

Stefan looked to Bella. "Go to your room, shut the door."

"But-"

"Now." Stefan said it as a harsh command, and Bella shook her head, retreating to the hallway. She heard Stefan talking to Jake now.

"Jacob, I know it hurts man. Let's get you outside, in the fresh air, it will be confusing but it will make sense eventually." Stefan coaxed. He helped Jake to his feet and they stumbled out into the hallway. "Bella, please."

Tears were in her eyes now. "What's wrong with him?"

Stefan sighed, "Come on." He said and Bella followed him and Jake downstairs, which Stefan had to half carry Jake.

Out in the warm air, Jake went to his knees. Stefan shielded Bella, putting himself between her and Jake.

"I don't understand," Jake panted, the sweat pouring off him as his body radiated heat. He growled, something rising in him and then he exploded into a large direwolf.

Bella's mouth dropped, stunned into silence.

Jake's point of view had changed, the colors shifting and now he was looking up at Stefan and Bella. He was scared, not sure what was happening to him.

"Jacob. Hey, calm down. Look at me," Stefan said, still coaxing, and not at all freaked out or surprised like Bella was. "You're a shifter. Listen, don't back away. I'm going to explain it to you."

Jake couldn't find his voice, but he heard another voice calling to him, and it sounded like the voice of Sam Uley.

"You are part of the tribe here, yes?"

Jake nodded his large head. His fur was deep russet brown, black peppered in slightly, and he was large.

"Sam Uley." Stefan said the name and Jake's ears perked up. "He is the pack leader here. You need to go to the reservation. Go straight there. Sam will be waiting. Hurry." He said calmly.

Jake stared at Stefan and then he looked to Bella, who was stepped forward towards him. He stood still as her hand connected with his face, his wolf face.

"Jake…. you're…. beautiful." She murmured, still in shock, but she wasn't afraid of him. Her mind was going a million miles per second, trying to connect all of this, but she was not afraid of her foster brother.

Jake's eyes closed as he nudged her hand, feeling better. He was afraid of himself, and Bella made him feel, oddly calm.

"Jacob, Sam will be waiting," Stefan said softly, and then Jake nodded his massive head again and then he sprinted off into the darkness.

Bella watched as Jake retreated into the shadows, running towards the reservation. She didn't know what to think, she turned and looked at Stefan. "What the fuck just happened?"

Stefan closed his eyes, hoping that he could have had a normal shot at life this go around, and he wanted to keep her out of all of this, but it was inevitable. "Let's go inside, get some coffee."

Bella followed him inside, going to the kitchen. "I rather have some tea." She murmured and started some tea for herself. "Want some?"

"That would be nice, thank you." Stefan said, and he reached out with a hand, brushing her hair back from her face. She tensed and he dropped his hand, frowning.

[Cue Voice Over]

So, yes, my brother, is a wolf. He shifts into a giant-sized dire wolf, and while that should be terrifying, it just didn't scare me. I started thinking that maybe something was wrong with me. I was just Bella after all, but seeing Jake turn into a wolf, was just a shocking thing to occur. It was not how I thought the night was going to go, and I'm sure Stefan thought it would end a lot different too. Either way, I was this teenage girl, being thrust into the woes of the supernatural world. And I had to keep this…all a secret.

They retreated up to her room by one, and Charlie still wasn't home, it started to worry Bella some, but she had seen him come home before later than that before, so she tried to push that worry out of her head and focus on what was happening right now.

"Werewolves exist." Bella stated it outloud, bringing her tea to her lips.

"Yes, but your brother isn't a werewolf. He's a shifter. He just happens to shift into a direwolf. It's specific to tribes. The Quileute tribe is from the wolf, and so when they shift, they shift into wolves." Stefan explained.

Bella shook her head, her brows creasing together, forming a frown line. "How do you know so much about this? Are you a giant wolf too?"

Stefan laughed. "No. I'm not a wolf."

"Shifter?"

"Uh, no." Stefan said, and then looked down at his hands. "I'm afraid, you'll hate me." He said, and then looked up at her. His green eyes were dazzling.

Bella sighed. "I don't think I could ever hate you Stefan. You just helped my brother. You did so without freaking out. I wouldn't know what to do if he transformed in the house. Would he even fit through the door?" She shook her head and looked up at him. "You can't be anything worse than that. You've been nothing but nice to me, so I don't think I would hate you."

Stefan stared at her, amazed at how calm she was, but by listening to her heartbeat, he knew that she was nervous. Her anxiety was there, and he didn't want to push her over the edge, but there was no going back now. "I'm a vampire," he said it, simply, but with a defeated tone. He looked down at his hands, waiting for her to hit at him, or scream, or yell.

Bella was quiet a moment. "You walk around in the daylight. That's not very vampire-like."

Stefan looked back up at her, looking at her face, how serious she was and then he just laughed. "I…"

"What?" She frowned, setting her tea down.

"It's just…I tell you I'm a vampire, and that's the response."

"Well, it's true. The stories say that vampires are confined to the shadows. I've seen you walk around during the day before. You eat people food."

Stefan nodded. "I do all those things, sure. But people food, gross, and as for the sun…" he lifted his hand, showing the brilliance of his ring.

Bella lifted her hand to his, taking it and looking at the ring, inspecting it. Her hands were oddly cooler than his, but she was just in a state of awe. She had thought about the possibility of there being other beings on this earth because there was no way that supernatural stories just stemmed from nowhere. The brilliant blue was fascinating, and it was hugged by the silver of his ring, which meant that he was impervious to silver it would appear. "Without this, you can't walk in the day?"

He nodded, closing his eyes, enjoying her slight touch. She moved her hand to his chest, and he opened his eyes and looked at her. She was staring at her hand as she felt for his heartbeat. The slow thud of his heart was not as quick as a human, but the slight beat was there, and very noticeable.

Her mouth parted slightly, as she processed the information overload going on in her mind right now. "What about Damon? Is he really your brother?"

"He is. We were turned the same night." Stefan murmured, looking sad now.

"Oh." She nodded. She heard the door opening downstairs.

Stefan got up from the bed and towards the window. "I'll see you at school Monday." He said. "I'm sorry about tonight." He said and slipped through the window.

Charlie's footsteps were echoing up the stairs so, Bella moved fast, grabbing her tea, and drinking it down quickly before opening her door. Charlie paused. "Oh, I figured you would be sleeping still."

"Ah, just wanted to get some tea. Jake is at a friend's house. I told him it should be fine because it's the weekend. Hope that was okay?" Bella said, walking out of her room towards the stairs.

"Oh, yeah, that's fine. I don't want to suffocate him or anything. How was homecoming?" Charlie asked.

"It was okay. I was mostly there to just be there, I guess. Oh, Eric Yorkie wants to do an interview for the school paper about the animal attacks?"

Charlie nodded. "Sure, I don't see why not. Might deter you kids from wandering off into the woods during odd hours. Make you more aware. Tell him just to call the station, have Susan put it on my calendar." He said with a smile. "I'm going to hit the shower, and then hit the hay. Love you, kiddo." He said and kissed her temple and proceeded on to his bedroom.

Bella walked down the stairs, washing her cup, and putting it away. Stefan had drunk his tea down here, so she washed his cup too and put it away. She crept back up the stairs and got to her room. She looked down at her phone and there was a message from Jake, texting her from Sam's phone.

[Sam]: Bella, it's me Jake. I'm on the rez. I will be home in the morning, please don't worry.

[Bella]: Okay kiddo. Be careful. Hugs. 3

She sighed and set her phone on the nightstand and then got into bed. She lay there staring up at the ceiling for a while before the darkness took her and she fell asleep.

[Monday, Forks High]

Jake got home Saturday while Charlie was at the station. Him and Bella talked for hours before he went back to the rez for a couple hours to learn more about his…new life. He didn't want to live on the rez, but it was important that he learn all he could about what was going on. He didn't want to tell Charlie, and Bella had agreed.

"Bella," Edward's voice called out to her, breaking her out of her thought bubble.

Bella turned and looked at Edward, smiling. "Oh hi. Thank you for Friday."

"No problem." He said with a smile. They walked together towards the lunchroom and got there and stood in line to get their food. "So how was your weekend?"

"Okay. Mostly just read a lot and did laundry. Nothing exciting." She said, knowing that the most exciting thing happened, her brother was a direwolf, and that was pretty exciting to say the least.

Edward grabbed an apple and followed her over to a table and sat down. They were quickly joined by Jessica, and the rest of the gang. Jessica was in aw that Edward was actually sitting at the table with them.

"Eric, dad said to call the station and talk to Susan to put you on his calendar." Bella said with a smile.

Eric smiled brightly. "Really? That's so awesome."

Stefan walked into the lunchroom, and Bella instantly noticed. He walked over towards the table, leaning in over her shoulder and kissing her cheek. "I'm sorry I was late this morning."

"No worries. Everything okay?" She asked, and Eric shifted over for Stefan to sit down beside her. Edward on the other side of her.

"Yeah, just some errands I had to do with Damon this morning." Stefan explained. He reached over and stole a French fry off her tray. They were crinkle kind.

Bella raised a brow at him and watched him eat the fry without flinching. She smiled. "Hmm. Well, school is important. Damon shouldn't be holding you up for your studies." She poked.

"So, Stefan, I hear that you're joining the football team." Jessica said, her preppy smile, and personality bubbling through.

Stefan turned his attention to Jessica, who reminded him a lot of Caroline Forbes. "Yeah. Coach saw me throwing the ball around Sunday with my brother. Said I have a good arm."

Edward watched the conversation unfold. He could hear Stefan's thoughts, and he was surprised at how well he was able to camouflage himself with humans. He was a different species of vampire, but he knew that he was one. "Bella, I was thinking about the movies, maybe Wednesday?"

Bella gave it some thought. "Hmm. I don't see why not. What's playing?"

"There are a couple movies, like the Avengers movie, if you're into the action thing." Edward suggested.

"Oh! What if we all go out Wednesday and do a movie!" Jessica exclaimed, grabbing Bella's attention.

"Oh, that would be nice," Bella said. "We could go see the Avengers. That sounds like fun."

By lunch end, it was set, they would all meet at the movies in Portland to see the new Avengers movie. Eric and Angela, Mike and Jessica, Stefan and Edward, and of course Bella. She was going to bring Jake too, just to give him some normalcy in life since Friday.

In biology, Bella took her seat next to Edward, shifting her bag under the table, and pulling her book out and notebook for the class.

"Do you need me to pick you up Wednesday?" Edward asked.

"No, I can manage. I'm bringing Jake, so we'll just go together." She smiled.

Edward nodded, and then the teacher came into the classroom and the class started. He wanted so badly to just tell her that he wanted to go on a date with her, but he was afraid. More afraid of himself than anything.

The class was over, after what seemed like eternity, and then they were walking out of the classroom. Stefan was waiting on her, which irked Edward, but he kept quiet.

Stefan took Bella's things, carrying them for her to History III, the class that they had together. "Should I pick you and Jake up on Wednesday?"

"Sure. I'm sure that will be fine. Jake was asking about you last night." Bella said as they walked.

Stefan nodded. "I haven't seen him today, but I can drop by after school today if he wants to talk."

Bella nodded. "That would be great. Thank you so much," She said and turned towards him, looking up at his sparkling green eyes. She was lost in his eyes, and then he smiled, raising a hand and running it down her arm.

"You don't need to thank me," He said and then they walked into class.

Edward saw how Stefan was with her, and it ate at him. Bella didn't know what Stefan was, and what she was getting herself into. But then again, she had no clue what he was, and he was no different. He walked to his class, trying not to stew too much, that the girl he was sure he loved already, was slipping through his fingers.

[Bella's House]

Stefan pulled up a few moments after Jake and Bella got home. Jake looked at Stefan and smiled. "I wanted to thank you for Friday. I would have been lost without your instruction."

Stefan nodded. "Of course. I'm glad I was here to help you."

"That being said. You're not the same as the cold blood suckers that live around here." Jake pointed out.

"Uh no. I'm not."

Bella frowned. "What? There are blood suckers? Like other vampires?"

"Yeah. They're a different species, older than mine, but they are not typically the greatest to keep as companions." Stefan said and sighed.

Jake nodded. "Yeah. That is why I was triggered."

"What? How does that make any sense?" Bella was confused.

"When they're nearby, the wolf gene triggers, and they start shifting. It's as a defense. Cold ones are not the nicest of creatures. I have come across a few that are fine, and don't live the same way as others. If they feast on human blood, they can become very unpredictable, and dangerous." Stefan explained.

"Okay, who are these people?" Bella asked.

Stefan looked at Jake and then shook his head. "I don't know that you really want to know."

"No, I really do want to know. Is it people we know?"

"It's the Cullen's." Jake said, his voice a little sad.

Bella frowned. How did she miss this? "How? Edward isn't bloodthirsty or terrible. He's actually really nice…I mean he was difficult in the beginning, but he's friendly now." Then it dawned on her. Her blood. It was her blood that made him the way he was.

Stefan looked away. "Edward is fine, so are his family. I've actually crossed paths with Carlisle before in the past. They're not dangerous."

"But it isn't animals killing hikers and random townspeople." Jake said.

"No. They're nomads. You can tell which ones are dangerous. Their eyes would be red, versus the cool golden brown the Cullen's have." Stefan explained.

Bella was quiet as she tried to piece things together. She did notice that Edward's eyes were different, and they got darker as the days went on, and then he would be absent from school one day and return to normal. She never really put much thought to it. His hands were cooler. She realized that when they danced at homecoming.

"Are you okay?" Stefan asked, as he reached up carefully, and brushed her hair out of her face.

She blinked at him. "Oh, yeah, I was just thinking. Now that I know what they are, I guess I do realize there were some differences. Edward's hands are cooler than yours." She sighed. "Well, he's not a threat? And neither are his siblings so I'm assuming that Jake triggered because they are just here now, and before they weren't."

"Yes. Carlisle is a good man." Stefan nodded.

Bella nodded and blew out a breath. "Okay, so we just go on like normal then. Jake, dad is wanting to officially adopt you. Are you still okay with that? Because, Embry's mom-"

"Bells, I'm happy where I'm at. I would never abandon my family. You and Charlie are my family regardless if I turn into a giant wolf or not." Jake said and moved to hug her.

That did make Bella feel better about this whole thing.

[Wednesday Night, Portland]

Stefan picked up Bella and Jake from the house after school Wednesday and they drove into Portland to meet with the others from school to watch the new Avengers movie.

Edward was there when they pulled up. Bella got out of the car first, and then Jake. Stefan got out last, and his eyes met Edward's and Edward instantly knew. He made no facial expression as he looked to Bella. He could never hear her thoughts and that was what initially drew him to her.

"Where are the others?" Bella asked Edward.

"Angela is buying tickets for her, Eric and Jessica. Mike bowed out last minute." Edward responded.

Bella nodded, pulling her wallet out, but Stefan stopped her.

"Don't. I'll go get our tickets." Stefan said with a smile and went to the ticket booth, Jake following. He was uncomfortable around Edward now, he assumed because of the smell.

"I could have picked you and Jake up," Edward said softly.

"Oh I know, but Stefan he uh.."

"Are you two dating?" Edward asked simply.

Bella shook her head. "No, he's just a good friend, mostly for Jake."

Edward nodded and took a step forward, his cool hand grasping hers. "I wanted to tell you before…before things don't happen the way I want. I really like you Bella. I wanted to come tonight with just you, but I…"

"Oh," Bella said. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize."

"It's fine. I know you know what I am. So it makes it easier for me to walk away, because I know-"

"Why would you walk away? Edward, just because I know, doesn't mean I don't want to be your friend."

"I just assumed…"Edward murmured.

Bella sighed. "Listen. I'm not going to pretend that it isn't worrisome, because you're the reason my brother was triggered, but I'm not going to condemn you for what you are. Stefan knows Carlisle. He knows your family are good people. We have nothing to worry about."

"I'm a monster," Edward looked like he was disgusted with himself.

Bella's eyes softened and she reached a hand up to his face, caressing it gently. "Nothing about you is a monster. Don't feel bad for being something different. Trust me. Okay?"

Edward's hand covered hers, his eyes closing. He nodded. "Thank you…Bella."

Stefan returned, but Jake was inside the lobby. "Got them." He said, not wanting to show that he was jealous of her touching Edward.

Bella's hand fell gently by her side and she smiled at Stefan. "Thank you."

"Of course." Stefan said, and Bella walked towards the lobby to find Jake. Stefan handed Edward a ticket. "She's special."

Edward took the ticket, looking at it. "I know. I can read your mind. I just want you to be aware. Try harder to block me out." He said. "Thank you," he said, holding the ticket up and he walked inside.

Stefan followed behind. He knew that cold ones could be psychic in nature, but he had never experienced that for himself.

The movie was really great. Bella actually enjoyed it.

"Which is your favorite Avenger?" Jake asked, his smile on his bright, and big.

"I like Iron Man," Eric said, imitating Iron Man in his suit, flying off.

"I like Thor," Jessica said with a smile.

"Of course, you like Thor," Eric grinned.

Bella laughed. "I honestly liked Dr. Strange." They had watched the Infinity Wars movie, and she had to admit that there was something about Stephen Strange that just made her curious.

"I like the Hulk," Jake decided.

"I don't know I like Black Widow," Angela said with a shrug.

"What about you Edward?" Jessica asked, looking over at him.

Edward thought about it. "Vision. He's probably the most interesting of them all."

"I'm going to have to go with Starlord," Stefan said, and Bella laughed.

"I knew you were going to say Starlord." Bella said, and Stefan slung his arm around her shoulders as they walked.

Stefan grinned. "Well, something about his personality, just spoke to me."

They got to their cars. "We should do this more often," Jessica suggested.

"Yeah, sure," Bella said. "This was fun." It was the most fun she had since moving here to this rainy town. She didn't make lots of friends usually. She was more of a loner, but for some reason, things were different here.

"Wednesday movie nights?" Eric asked, smiling over at Stefan.

"Sounds like a plan, my man." Stefan said and he high fived Eric.

Jake got into Stefan's car, and then Bella turned to Edward. "Hey, do you want to get coffee Saturday? There's that coffee shop that is combined with the bookstore here in Portland."

Edward smiled, looking down. "That's really kind for you to humor me. It's fine, you don't have to."

"No no, I want to. Just me and you," She offered a kind smile.

Edward nodded. "Sure. Pick you up at nine Saturday?"

"Sounds good," She smiled and got in Stefan's car.

They watched Edward get into his car and drive away. Stefan waited a few moments before he spoke. "He's into you huh."

"Well. I didn't know. I'm sort of oblivious to those things I suppose." She sighed and shrugged. "I want to be his friend. He seems like he's struggling with things, and I only want to help."

Stefan nodded. "Its hard, as a vampire, to come to terms with…the bad things you've done. I don't know Edward that well. I know Carlisle, and at the time I met Carlisle, Edward was away, trying his own thing. Edward eventually came back to Carlisle, but he's struggling for a reason."

Bella thought about it. "You've done bad things."

"I have." Stefan said, his face showing some of the pain he felt.

"But you regret it."

"Yeah," Stefan said and sighed. "Just be wary. Careful. Edward…seems like he could be a nice guy, but I just want to make sure you know what you're doing."

Jake nodded. "He has a god-awful odor. I'm sorry Bella, I can't be around him for too long. It was killing me in the theater."

Bella frowned. "He doesn't smell bad."

"He does to me." Jake said.

Stefan nodded his agreement. "Yeah, cold ones are supposed to give off a different scent.

"Interesting." Bella said, as she thought about that. She wondered why they were so different from regular vampires.

[Cue Voice over]

Some of you are probably yelling at me. Why, Bella? There is a clear choice here, and you shouldn't waste your time on Edward. He doesn't deserve an ounce of attention. I'd like to disagree, but honestly, I can't. Either way, the story from here on out progresses very quickly, and well…. just read for yourself.

Saturday came faster than Bella thought it would, and she went to coffee with Edward like promised.

Edward drove really fast. Faster than Bella liked, but he was a vampire after all, and he was not afraid of death like was. His reflexes were also much better than hers.

It was already dark outside by the time they got into Forks. He pulled up in her driveway, and Charlie was gone, which was normal, and Jake was supposed to be on the rez.

"Thank you for coffee, and just chatting," Edward said, with a smile on his face. You could tell he wasn't used to smiling much.

"Of course, it was a great day." Bella smiled. She looked at Edward and his topaz brown eyes. They were unusual the more you looked at them. She wondered why their eye color was different from normal vampires. Stefan had green eyes, and he was a vampire. The different species intrigued her.

Edward leaned in, his cool lips against hers. Bella was shocked by the motion, but she didn't pull away. The cold of his lips wasn't so bad, but it was different. Edward's hand came to her face, caressing her smooth face with his marble cold hand. It was November now, and it was cooler outside, and she shivered under his touch so slightly.

He drew back and looked at her. "I apologize if- "

"Oh, it's fine." She smiled. "Thank you again," she said as she got out of the car. "I'll see you Monday at school." She waved at him and then walked inside the house. She heard him drive away after a couple moments.

She sighed as she walked into the kitchen, flipping on the light, and picking up the note on the counter.

Bella, I'm over in the next county, more animal attacks. I won't be home tonight or tomorrow. Don't worry about dinner. Love you, kiddo.

Love,

Dad

P.S. Tell Jake that there is money in the jar, for his football thing.

Bella put the note in the trash, and then sent Jake a quick text to let him know she was home and what Charlie had said. She went upstairs, stopping off into the bathroom before going to her room. She walked in, and Stefan was laying on her bed, reading.

"Hmm. Ordinarily this would startle me, but for some reason I just knew you were up here." Bella said with a smile.

"Oh? Are you psychic now?" Stefan said with a smile.

"No, but I knew you would be here for when I got back with Edward, to make sure I was alive and well." Bella pointed out.

Stefan smiled. "Well, how was coffee?"

"It was pretty good. He told me about how when he was sick, Carlisle saved him. That's why he's a vampire now. Carlisle only turns people if they're dying." Bella sat on the bed and looked at him. "Jake is on the rez, and dad is gone for two nights. I'm really worried about these attacks. They're nomads, right?"

He nodded. "Yeah. Cold ones. They're pretty brutal. It's likely they'll pass through though. They don't stay long in one place. Carlisle's family is one of the few families that I know of that doesn't migrate like other cold ones. They typically are nomadic."

"So the Cullen's are different. I wonder why there are two specifies of vampires." She stared off in thought.

Stefan smiled, looking at her. She was extraordinary. He leaned up on the bed, and then leaned forward, his lips meeting hers. He registered the shock in her, and then she settled her lips against his. It was a slow kiss, as he warmed her up, only taking what she would allow him.

Her hands came up around him, moving closer to him, pressing against him. His tongue swept into her mouth across her own tongue, and it ignited her inside. She didn't realize it before she let out a tiny moan against his mouth. His lips curved under hers as she moved forward more. His hands dropped to her waist, and then she was on her back on her mattress while he hovered above her, kissing her neck, and she gasped in pleasure.

"Bella," he murmured against her throat.

"Mmm."

He leaned up, looking down at her radiating beauty. "Are you okay?"

She nodded, confused. "Why wouldn't I be?"

"Your heart."

"Oh, right. I'm just…I've never…you're the first guy I've ever really kissed, and then…"

Stefan understood, and leaned back. "We can stop."

"No no. I'm fine. I promise, I'm just nervous is all. I'm a nervous person in general. I like what you're doing." Bella assured him, but her cheeks were flushed.

Stefan smiled and leaned down, kissing her cheek, and then her mouth again. "Guide me," he said, giving her his hand. "You're in control."

Bella didn't know what to do, she had never been intimate before with someone, so she did the first thing she could think of and she placed his hand on her breast.

He smiled, cupping her gently, his numb rubbing over the material that lay over her nipple. Her body reacted to his touch. "You're in control," he whispered as his head dipped lower to take her lips again.

She moved his hand down to the bare skin of her belly, where her shirt rode up, and she moved his hand under. He slid his hand up over her bra, the delicate white lace hugged her breast, and he shifted his hand under the bra, and his bare hand connected with her bare breast, his thumb rolling over her nipple and she sucked in a breath and a slight moan escaped her lips.

"Mmm, where to next?" Stefan said, kissing her again, his tongue meeting hers slowly, before leaning back, and looking down at her.

"Take your shirt off." Bella commanded it, feeling a bit more assertive.

Stefan leaned up, smiling still as he pulled his shirt off with ease. His chest was tone, as was his abs, and he was just beautiful to look at.

"Wow," She was stunned. Her cheeks flushed as she realized she said it out loud and she was embarrassed.

"Thank you," Stefan said, and let his shirt drop to the floor.

She leaned up, reaching a hand up and touched his chest, her hand slowly sliding over his skin. He watched her as she wandered over his upper body, even his arms. Her eyes met his, and then she dropped her hand to the hem of her shirt, pulling it up, and off. She unfastened her bra and then dropped it in the floor. This was the first time being exposed like this.

Stefan's eyes swept over her. "You're very beautiful, don't be nervous." He murmured, and leaned in, kissing her again, before laying her backwards on the mattress again. His head moved to her breast, his mouth taking her nipple in his mouth, and he sucked gently. It was a sensation she had never experienced before and she was getting lost in his touch, his mouth. She arched against him, her hands going to his hair and she ran her fingers through it.

"What do you want me to do next?" Stefan asked, his voice layered with a little husk.

"What do you want-"

"No, not how this works Bella. You tell me what to do. You're the one in control. I only do what you want me to do." Stefan said.

Bella bit her lip. She wanted to experience so much more. "Take my pants off."

Stefan raised a brow, and then his hands unbuttoned her jeans and then he peeled them off her, his fingers caressing her skin as he did. Her panties were blue, and didn't match her bra, but she was that type of girl. He tossed her pants over in the floor. He looked to her for more direction.

"Take your pants off," she said, with a small smile.

Stefan proceeded, taking his pants off. His bulging erection was more noticeable, and Bella could tell he was pretty large. For some reason that excited her, but she didn't know why. He dropped his pants over in the floor and then he looked back at her. "Next?"

"Touch me," she murmured.

"How do you want me to touch you? Like this?" His fingers stroked up her legs, sending little thrills up her body. "Or like this," his hands went up to her breast again, groping her slightly. His mouth covered hers briefly, and then he slid his hand down between them and his hand danced over her panties across the front. Her small gasp made him stop.

He leaned up, looking at her, watching her face, as his hand slid over her panties again, his middle finger pressing against her swollen clit hidden by the material, but his touch still got a reaction out of her. He saw her eyes dilate, the indication of pure arousal. He teased her with small strokes. "What do you want now?"

His touch was sending vibrations through her. "Take my panties off," she nearly whispered, and then he obliged, taking her panties off her, and now she was fully exposed to him. His hand went back up, and he rubbed circles over her clit again, and then he dipped a finger inside so slightly and she arched against him instinctively again and moaned. His mouth captured hers, and he kissed her before he went to her throat, kissing her again, and then moving down her body before his lips replaced his hand.

"Oh god," Bella moaned out as his tongue flicked over her little nub. Her hands gripped the sheets as he pushed her. Her body was tingling from her toes all the way up, and the rise of what would be her first orgasm was starting it's climb. She moved her hips against his mouth, and his finger slipped inside again, swirling around in her, and then she was orgasming, rushing out, and she moaned again. Her orgasm whirled around her.

Stefan moved up to kiss her, and she kissed him back, her mouth more urgent, meeting his with a desperate plea. Her hands went to his boxer briefs, and she pulled at them. He pulled back, looking at her. "Bella."

"Please." She murmured.

"I don't want you to rush into something." Stefan said softly.

"I want this." Bella said, looking up at him, her hands still at his waist.

Stefan studied her a long moment. "At any point you tell me to stop, I will stop. Okay?"

She nodded, and he removed his boxer briefs. She looked at the length of him and bit her lip. Nervous, but excited at the same time. Her hand raised, rubbing over the length of him and he groaned and pushed into her hand. He was so hard, so ready to bust open right then. Stefan moved between her legs, widening them a little. His hand stroked her again, and she arched against his touch. She was dripping wet for him, ready for the invasion.

He pushed the tip against her wet core and he slid in just every so slightly, watching her face for distress, when there was none, he slid in slowly, giving her time to get accustomed to the new feeling. She was tight, pressing around him from all sides, and he wanted to just take her completely.

She moved her hips a little, pulling him closer, and she moaned, the pain only there for a brief moment, and then it was gone, and she just wanted him to do more.

"Are you okay?" Stefan asked gently, holding on to his wavering control.

"I'm okay," she breathed, and she moved her hips to his again, showing him that she was perfectly fine. He slid into her all the way, hitting her center and she exploded around him like he hit a magic button and she moaned out his name, her orgasm washing over her.

He thrust slow, in even strides, and let her build again, as his own pressure started building, and building fast. His mouth came to hers and he kissed her, his mouth showing the passion behind it, as he thrust inside her. She clutched around him as he took her to another level of pleasure. This is everything she imagined her first time being. His mouth dipped to her throat, and he kissed there, and her hand went to his hair, and brushed through his hair, while the other raked over his back as she felt him swell inside her more. He groaned as he pumped a little faster, and then he was releasing himself, driving his hips into her a few more times as he spurt his hot liquid inside, mixing with hers. She was panting as they came to a stop. She felt him twitch inside her a few times before he pulled out of her slowly.

He rolled onto his back and then pulled her to him. She lay her head on his chest and he ran a hand over her bare back.

"Wow," she murmured.

"Mm. Are you okay?"

"I'm perfect," she snuggled against him.

Stefan smiled. "I was not intending for this to happen. I was going to stop after getting you off."

Bella leaned up and looked at him. "Oh, so you knew you would get me naked?"

"Well, I thought I might have gotten you at least half naked. I set out wanting to pleasure you. I did not think you would do all the extra steps," he said with a half laugh. "You are surprising."

Bella leaned down and kissed him. "Well…I…don't know what came over me, but I'm glad that you set out trying to get in my pants."

"Uh uh, I was wanting to get in your pants to pleasure only you, not myself."

"That doesn't seem fair."

"How is it unfair?" He asked with a grin.

Bella raised a brow. "Doesn't it hurt…to like…"

"Oh, well yes, but it's nothing I can't handle."

"How long has it been since…"

"A very long time," Stefan admitted. "Did you enjoy it?"

Bella laughed. "Do you have to ask?"

Stefan kissed her again. "Well, if you didn't, would you tell me?"

"Of course, I would. Honesty is the best practice, right?"

"Okay. Here's a question and be completely honest." Stefan and she nodded, waiting.

Bella's phone rang, and she rolled and grabbed it from the nightstand. She looked at it. It was Jake. "Hey Jake."

"You're at home still?"

"Yeah, what's wrong?" She said, sitting up, pulling the sheet up.

Jake was quiet a moment. "Charlie was attacked, they're taking him to the hospital. He wasn't bit, but he's hurt. One of the deputies will be there to let you know."

"Wait what? How do you know?"

"Because I watched it happen Bells. I tried to stop them."

"He's supposed to be in Canon City, are you there?" Bella started moving around the room, not caring she was naked, and pulling on clothes. Stefan was moving too, getting dressed, quickly.

"Yeah. I'm sorry I didn't tell you. Don't drive upset please. I love you." Jake said his voice wavering a bit over the phone. "I've got to go. I'll meet you at the hospital." He said and hung up.

Bella ran a hand through her hair. "My dad…"

"I know," Stefan said quickly. "Come on."

Her phone rang again, it was the station. She answered quickly. "Hello?"

"Bella, this is Deputy Townsend. I wanted to tell you that your father has been hurt and they're taking him to the hospital. He's stable. He has to have surgery-"

"I'm on my way," Bella snapped out, and hung up.

"Bella calm down," Stefan said gently, and turned her to face him. "I'll drive you. It's going to be okay. I promise." He said and kissed her forehead.

Tears sprang to her eyes and she collapsed against him, crying. "I can't lose my dad."

"You're not. Let's get you to the hospital." He coaxed, and then he helped her downstairs and to her Jeep. He got in and drove to the hospital.

[Cue Voice over]

Pretty steamy right? Well, that was the singular best moment, only to be shattered by a bad one. Sure, I had a mom, and stepdad, but no one would be able to replace my dad. I didn't want to spend the next moments of my life just living in a constant state of worry. Stefan was there, and that is what held me together, while my dad was in the hospital.

Bella got to the hospital and rushed inside with Stefan behind her.

"Charles Swan!" She said hurriedly. "I'm his daughter."

The nurse looked down at something. "He's in surgery, it will be a few hours." The nurse relayed.

Bella pushed a hand through her hair. "Is he bad?" Tears were welling up in her eyes, and Stefan was right there, his arm around her. Stefan looked at the nurse. "Can you get us an update when you have a moment?" He asked softly.

The nurse nodded, understanding. "I will. Have a seat over in the waiting area." She directed, her voice kind.

Stefan moved Bella over to the waiting area and sat with her. Carlisle walked through and saw Bella, and then Stefan with her. He walked over. "Mr. Salvatore. It's been a while."

Stefan looked up. "Oh, it has. This is Bella Swan. Her father was just in a…uh. I don't know I guess an attack while in Canon City. He's in surgery."

Carlisle frowned. "Ah. Well, we have the best surgeons here. Bella don't worry about your dad. I'll go in and check on him, will that be okay?"

Bella looked up at Dr Cullen and nodded. "Thank you."

"Of course, I'll be right back." He said and disappeared.

After about ten minutes, Carlisle returned, his face grimacing. Stefan looked up at him and shook his head. Stefan saw Jake as he came into the waiting area and he came over to Bella and Stefan, and he looked at Carlisle, but didn't say anything.

"What's going on?" Jake asked.

Bella looked up at Carlisle. "Did they give you an update?"

Another doctor approached, one that looked like he was just in the OR. "Bella Swan?"

"Yes, that's me," Bella stood, and Stefan was there to steady her.

"I'm sorry. We did everything that we could. Your father didn't make it." The doctor said.

Bella shook her head. It was like the whole world was ending. Everything just turned into white noise and then Stefan's arms were strong around her as he pulled her to him, catching her from falling to the ground. Her bottom lip wavered, and tears poured out of her eyes, and she couldn't stop them.

Jake rubbed a hand through his hair and looked at Carlisle, after the other doctor walked away. "Carlisle, I-"

"Not here Jacob." Carlisle said lowly. "Bella, come on. Come to my home. Let's get you out of this hospital."

Bella just looked at Carlisle, the tears blinding her.

Stefan swooped her up into his arms, and just carried her then. Jake followed him out and to her Jeep. They got in, and Carlisle took his car, after telling the nurses' station he was going home for a few moments.

[The Cullen House]

Bella was unconscious by the time they made it to the house. Stefan carried her inside. Jake stayed out on the porch, the smell was overbearing, and he had to gather himself.

Esme moved towards Stefan. "Set her down in the living room, on the couch."

Stefan lay her gently on the couch.

Edward emerged, frowning. "What happened?"

Stefan looked up at Bella. "She lost her father. He died today."

Esme gasped, putting a hand up to her mouth.

Carlisle walked in then, Jake following him. "Emmett, I want you to take Jasper and search the woods closet to Canon City. Rose, you and Alice, search around Bella's house. Edward-"

"What happened?" Rosalie asked, cutting him off.

"Nomads. They've been attacking hikers and other people in the town. They've been sloppy and then the sheriff…he was in Canon City, and got attacked by one of the nomads. He didn't make it and he wasn't bitten." Carlisle explained.

Jasper and Emmett looked at each other and then they were gone, following Carlisle's orders. Alice and Rose left with each other without another word.

Stefan's attention was back on Bella. She started waking up, and she shot up on the couch, and Stefan was there to calm her down, and she went into his arms immediately, crying. "I'm so sorry, I passed out on you." She sobbed out.

"Shh. Baby, it's okay. Please stop crying." Stefan said softly, tilting her face up to look at him, his hands wiping at her tears. "I'm so sorry," he murmured, and he kissed her forehead. "I'm just so sorry." He hugged her, and she buried her face in his shoulder.

Jake swallowed. "I…" he choked up. "I tried to stop it," tears coming to his eyes.

Carlisle went to Jake, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I know you did son, I know. We're going to take care of it. We should have done it from the start, but we…"

"It's not your job Carlisle. It's the pack's job. We were supposed to protect people like Charlie, and I just…he was my dad." Jake was being hit hard from this. "I've lost both my dads." He cried.

Bella looked up. "Oh no. Carlisle, he was still a foster. What are we going to do? He can't just be thrown into the system."

"No no, I won't let that happen. I'll speak to social services."

"I'm seventeen," Bella wiped at her face. "I'm-"

"We'll take care of you Bella," Esme said. "We won't let you and Jake be separated, right honey?"

Carlisle nodded. "We'll figure that out. Don't worry about anything Bella. I'll make sure everything is handled. You just grieve, it's okay."

Bella started crying again, and Stefan just leaned her head against his shoulder.

Edward watched Bella fall apart, and how Stefan was able to pick up the pieces so well.

Stefan's phone started ringing. He kissed the top of her head and reached into his pocket, fishing his phone out and answering. "Damon, I'm with Bella. What do you need?"

"I heard about the Sheriff."

"Already?"

"Yeah, little brother, you forget that I'm on the chair at the hospital. I knew instantly. Are you there with Cullen?" Damon asked.

"Yeah, we're at Carlisle's house."

"Good. Stay there. I'm coming to you," Damon said and hung up.

Stefan looked up at Carlisle, and they nodded to each other.

By the time Damon got there, Bella passed out again.

"I have some friends coming in from Virginia to help with this problem. I already have one guy here. He's been following the bodies but hasn't caught up with the actual culprits." Damon explained.

"Alaric is here?" Stefan frowned. He didn't know this.

"He's been here two weeks. Jeremy is coming and so is Tyler Lockwood." Damon said. "And Caroline."

Stefan frowned. "Why would she come here?"

"Because she wants to help brother. I didn't think I had to ask permission for your ex-girlfriend to visit." Damon said, poking at his brother.

"We ended on good terms, don't try to make it something it's not. I just didn't think she had the time, with Whitmore." Stefan said and sighed. He had gotten up off the couch. He looked at his watch on his wrist. "Any other surprises?"

"Nope. Oh, right Elena is coming along with Jeremy, because of the whole guardian thing." Damon waved a hand.

"Mhm. Well Elena and Jeremy are Bella's cousins; they make sense to be here." He sighed looking at Carlisle. "How good of a tracker is Jasper and Emmett?"

Carlisle shook his head. "They don't have to do this often. So probably not as good as one of your people."

"Caroline is really good." Stefan admitted. "Okay brother. Saving the world again?"

"I wouldn't go that far." Damon snorted with amusement.

"Damon, do you want anything? We don't have bloodbags here that your kind would normally resort to, but we do have alcohol." Esme said.

Damon waved a hand. "It's no problem. I ate before I came here." He said and looked at Stefan, his face looking serious.

Bella woke up again, looking around, spying Damon.

"Ah, sleeping beauty, she awakes. How are you feeling Bella?" Damon asked, his voice calm, gentle even.

"I'm okay. I'm just…"

"I get it. We'll get it handled. Your cousins are coming in. They should be here by tomorrow." Damon relayed.

Bella nodded, and then hugged her arms around herself. "I'm sorry I keep falling asleep."

Stefan shook his head, going to sit next to her. "It's not a problem. You need to rest. Do you want to go home?"

She shook her head. "I…don't really want to be alone."

"Come stay at the house. I know Carlisle has no beds here, we have extra space." Damon said with a nod. "You too Jacob." He said, looking up at the giant teenager that shifted into a wolf when he wanted. He knew Klaus would love to meet him. That was the one person he left off the roster. He didn't want to upset Stefan at the moment in front of a bunch of people.

Jake nodded. "That sounds good. Thank you, Mr. Salvatore."

"Damon, just Damon." He said.

Bella stood and looked at Carlisle. "Thank you."

"Of course, Bella. I'll speak with social services; we'll get it all straightened out. Between Damon and I, we can come to some sort of solution for the situation." Carlisle said, and Bella just nodded her thanks.

Stefan helped her to her feet, and she wobbled a bit. "Here," he said, and swooped her into his arms again, and she just lay her head over on his shoulder, feeling a bit defeated. "Thank you, Carlisle." He said and walked out to her jeep with her and put her in. Jake followed and then Damon stayed behind.

"We will take care of the nomads that did this." Damon said, and looked up at Jasper when he came through the door. "Major, did you find anything?"

"No. I tracked all along the river too." Jasper responded. His Texan drawl was charming.

Damon nodded. "I'll send Alaric this way, meet up, and come up with a plan. I have two hunters coming in from Virginia, and a tracker."

Jasper raised a brow. "Oh? So that's where you were hiding after the war."

"Not exactly, but it's where I ended up." Damon said. "Keep me updated Carlisle," Damon said, and then patted his shoulder as he left.

Edward looked at Carlisle. "How do you know the Salvatores?"

"I'm crossed paths with Stefan before. Damon works at the hospital. He's chair on the board. Oversees financial situations." Carlisle said. "Damon knows how to get things done. It may not be…the way I do things, but he's stronger than I am, and he's not limited like we are. His hunters coming in, they are vampire hunters. Alaric, his friend he speaks of, is a highly skilled vampire hunter."

"How do you know?" Esme asked.

Jasper spoke. "Because Damon wouldn't settle for second best. I know Damon really well. He's merciless in battle. Dangerous."

Edward frowned. "And we just sent Bella with them?"

"That's the safest spot for her and Jacob, son. Stefan obviously cares about Miss Swan, they have a relationship, and she trusts him, and Damon. We can't stand in the way of that. Damon will do best by Bella. I will work on getting Jacob and Bella placed here, so we have more reach with protecting them."

Edward didn't like the situation, but he didn't have a choice. He couldn't read Stefan and Damon's mind because they had locked their thoughts up tight. But Stefan's movements and how he cared for Bella showed him something that he didn't see before.

[Salvatore House]

Stefan brought her up to a room and lay her down on the bed. "Do you want anything to drink? Eat?"

She shook her head. "No. I just…He's really gone…"

"I know," he eased back onto the bed. He took her hand in his. "Losing people is never great. I don't know what to do…to make you feel better."

Bella sniffed. "Just…hold me? I know that we're not a couple, and I really appreciate you and your brother letting me and Jake stay here tonight. I'm just…lost."

Stefan sighed and leaned forward, kissing her forehead. "Whatever you need." He said and pulled her into his arms, laying on the bed with her, holding her until she fell asleep. He continued to lay there, listening to her even breathing, and the steady rhythm of her heart. He found himself drifting off to sleep.

The morning came and Stefan woke to Bella shifting in his arms, snuggling her face against his chest. He kissed her hair and then she lifted her face to his, her lips connecting with his briefly.

"Good morning," He murmured.

"Morning," she said, her voice still sounding sleepy. She shifted, sitting up. "There's a bathroom…"

"Yes, that door over there. Toothbrush and everything in there." He said, and she got out of bed to use the bathroom. He got out of bed too, wandering out to find Damon in the kitchen fixing food for Jake and Bella.

"She okay?" Jake asked when he saw Stefan.

Stefan sighed. "She's just waking up; I would give it more time today. She's holding on, trying to be strong."

Damon set a plate in front of Jake. "Well, Alaric should be at the Cullen's this morning, and then Jeremy and the others will be in later today. Oh, and Klaus and Elijah will be here too."

"What? Damon why didn't you say something last night."

"Because I didn't want you to overreact in front of the Cullen's." Damon pointed out.

"Why is he coming?"

"Because I asked for help. Him and Elijah are the only two coming. Elijah will keep Klaus reigned in." Damon assured him.

Jake had scarfed down the food quickly. "Who's Klaus and Elijah?"

"The original vampires of our species. They're over 2000 years old." Damon said. "And Klaus is a hybrid."

"Hybrid what?"

"Vampire and werewolf," Stefan said and sighed. "Well, at least this will be handled faster, and then Bella can go back to having a normal life." He turned around. "Just don't do anything stupid." He said before going back upstairs. Bella was sitting on the bed, just staring at her hands. "What's wrong?"

Bella looked up at him. "Oh, I'm just thinking about everything. It's…really real. My dad isn't here anymore."

Stefan went and sat next to her, rubbing his hand over her back. "I know. I'm sorry."

Bella looked at him, studying him. Stefan was so wholesome, helpful. He was keeping her grounded right now. She leaned in and kissed him. Her lips soft against his. At first it was a slight brushing, then she moved closer, her body pressing against him. His arms automatically came around her, as he kissed her back. He could tell she was aroused now, and she was wanting more than just a simple kiss.

"Mmm. Bella," He murmured against her lips as she continued to kiss him. His hands were firm on her waist, but she wanted more. "Bella…"

"Stefan…please," she said, her brown eyes looking into his green ones. He studied her a moment, and then he gave in, he pulled his shirt off, and she moved, pulling hers off, and then within a few moments they were naked together on the bed. Stefan's movements were slow, deliberate, and he rocked into her gently. She clutched around him, moaning as he thrust. Her body arched up against him, and he kissed her fiercely, their tongues dancing together, vying for control.

When her orgasm hit her, she moaned his name, his mouth covering hers again, drinking in her pleasure, before he hit his peak, shattering, and thrusting into her little rougher than he wanted, but she only gasped with pleasure, and felt his orgasm flow through her, pushing her over the edge.

She lay there, her breathing heavy, and her heart pounding in her chest. He lay beside her, gathering her in his arms, and holding her to him. He kissed her hair, stroking her bare back as he felt her shift into a sleeping state. He lay like that a few more moments, before he rolled out of bed, letting her rest. He pulled on his clothes. He sighed and looked over at her before he opened the door and walked down the stairs.

Damon was in the study, sitting there reading something, and drinking bourbon.

"Where's Jake?" Stefan asked from the doorway.

"On patrol," Damon said and looked up. "Is she always that loud?"

Stefan sighed, slightly annoyed. "Do you always have to be this creepy?"

"Well, it's not like I was listening on purpose Stefan, but she isn't exactly quiet either. I have vampire hearing." Damon pointed out, lifting his drink to his lips. Then he took on a more serious look. "She's hurting right now. I wouldn't…"

"I know Damon. I know," Stefan sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Yesterday… was her first time. We were together when Jake called her."

"Oh," Damon said, setting down his drink and his book. "This will get really messy Stefan. I hope you know what you're doing."

Stefan looked down. "I'm not going to walk away from her Damon. I really do like her. Hell, I haven't known her that long, but she is just absolutely amazing. She's…"

"Special. But Stefan, we've been down this road before. Nothing good comes with-"

"I know."

Damon nodded. "As long as you realize what's at stake. Human emotions are much different than ours."

"You don't think I know that? Damon, it's not like I set out coming here and thinking I was going to fall for the pretty girl in high school."

"So, you love her."

"I…" What did he feel? Bella was intense for him, drawing him in from the moment he met her. Something about her, just screamed at his heart. "I do. I love her, and I don't think I can walk away from her. Even if I had to…"

Damon sighed. "Okay. Well. I'll support whatever crazy life you want to live. If you love her, we'll stay in this god-awful town that never stops raining."

[Cue Voice Over]

I know that people might be judging me right now. I jumped Stefan and practically begged him to have sex with me. I was vulnerable, I admit, but I also knew what I wanted. I didn't just do it on a whim. I was ready for him, ready for taking that next step. I just lost my dad though, and I wasn't sure where I was going to go from there. The next part of the story was a blur to me, but honestly, in the end, thinking back on it, I don't think that I could have even done anything different, even if I tried.

[Two weeks later]

The memorial for Charlie came and went, and the hunt for the nomads that did this to Bella's father, was getting harder and harder. Even with the help of Caroline Forbes, the vampire tracker that Damon brought, and Stefan's ex-girlfriend, and the help of Alaric and Jeremy, both vampire hunters. Tyler Lockwood was a hybrid like Klaus, and Klaus was a character. Bella had only interacted with him once, but that was because he was at the Salvatore house when she was there one day.

Carlisle and Esme took Jake and Bella into their home. Social services placed both with Cullen's for the time being. Jake still didn't want to go to the rez because he didn't want to leave Bella. He spent most of his time as a wolf, on patrol, so he wouldn't have to be in the house long with the other Cullen's.

Carlisle got beds set up for Bella and Jake in the extra rooms so that way they would have a place to sleep.

Bella was in her room, just reading a book when Alice knocked on her door. Bella looked up at her new friend, and sister. "Oh hey."

"I was wanting to know if you wanted to come with me to Portland?" Alice said, her voice was airy, light, and so musical. It made Bella smile anytime she spoke with Alice.

"I don't know. Shopping isn't really my idea of fun."

"Well, you need some clothes, and some other things, right? It's been two weeks, and I think I've seen you wear the same set of clothes all week." Alice said, baffled that not every girl had two closets full of outfits.

Bella smiled. "Alice, not everyone wears a different outfit every day. You're the anomaly."

"It's getting colder out, and you need warmer clothes," Alice reasoned.

Bella sighed. "I suppose I could use some sweaters."

Alice beamed. "I knew you would give in."

"You already saw us shopping together, didn't you?" Bella asked, raising a brow.

Alice only smiled.

By the time Bella got home, she was exhausted. Alice bought way too much stuff for her, and she was going to have to wear at least half of it, just so she wouldn't hurt her feelings.

Carlisle looked at the girls when they came through the door. He was sitting on the couch, reading something. "Have fun?"

"Yeah," Bella offered a smile. She never wanted to appear ungrateful for anything. "I'm glad she drug me out of the house today. Thank you, Carlisle."

"Of course, anytime Bella. I believe Rose and Emmett went to get you some dinner. We don't really know how to cook around here." Carlisle admitted.

Bella shook her head. "Oh, I can cook, it's okay. They don't have to go through so much trouble, honest."

Rosalie and Emmett came in the door, carrying some bags from the restaurant in town that made just homecooked food. Emmett walked over to Bella, leaning in and kissing her cheek. "I got the meatloaf, with mashed potatoes, and the mac n' cheese. You like that kind of food, right?"

"I do, thank you Em." Bella smiled, taking the bag with the to-go boxes.

"Jake eats a lot, so I got four steaks, and the chicken finger basket, the fries, and he said he didn't like green things, so I got him carrots, and mac n cheese." Rosalie announced, setting the bags on the counter. She was the one who was least enthused about bringing two people into the house, and one was a shifter to add, but she was doing her part to help.

"Thank you, Rosalie, he'll love it," Bella said with a smile.

Jake walked in, knowing the food had arrived. Rosalie wrinkled her nose, and that was typical. To the Cullen's, Jake smelled like a wet dog for the most part. "Thank you Rose." Jake was always polite, regardless of what the other pack members said. They didn't like him staying there with the Cullen's, but Jake wasn't going to leave Bella's side, and that wasn't up for debate or a discussion. They always brought him steaks or meats like this, and he knew that it was probably because he needed the protein.

Bella smiled, taking a bit of her own food. "How was your run?"

"Eh. It was okay. The scent on those nomads is cold now, running along the river that borders the mountain, but we're talking about widening patrols tomorrow." Jake said, and started scarfing down food.

This was the normal conversation, and that made Bella a little sad. She just wanted things to be normal again. She wished so hard for that, but this was her life now.

There was a knock at the front door and Emmett moved to answer the door, knowing that it was Elena, probably there for Bella. He opened the door and it was Elena. She walked in and went straight to Bella, her face anxious.

Bella frowned, looking at her cousin. "What's wrong?"

"Bella, it's Stefan." Elena said quickly.

Bella got up fast. "What happened?"

"He got hurt, but Klaus is taking care of him. Damon is sending Elijah and Jeremy to come help, but the nomads are back." Elena explained and looked towards Carlisle, who was already to his feet.

"I'll go to Stefan, Elena, where is he?"

"He's at his house with Damon and Klaus." Elena said, brushing her hand through her hair. She looked worried.

Edward appeared, Jasper right behind him. "Where are the nomads moving in from?"

Elena looked at Edward, blinking a few times. She hadn't met him yet, despite being here two weeks. "I…actually don't know."

"How badly is Stefan hurt?" Bella asked.

"He'll live, but he's in pain. Their bites…." Elena looked at Carlisle and he nodded, understanding.

Bella shook her head. "I need to go to him."

"No, Bella, you need to stay here," It was Jasper that spoke, and everyone turned and looked at him.

"But- "

"No, it ain't safe for you to be outside these walls. The nomads are playing games and you'll just be in the line of fire. Carlisle is going to take care of Stefan, he'll be okay," Jasper said, his Texan drawl was always so surprising to Bella, but he also pushed calming waves at her, and she was settling down.

Edward went to her, taking her hand. "Come on," he said and took her to her room. She followed him; a bit defeated. "Sit." He commanded, gently, and she sat. "Stefan is not going to die. Our bite won't kill him, it's just painful. He's going to be okay."

Bella nodded, looking at her hands. "He's my best friend." She admitted.

"I know."

"I don't want him to get hurt, and I can't lose people that I care about. I've already lost my dad, my mom didn't care enough to come to his funeral, or worry about me, or Jake. I'm just tired of losing people," She was getting upset.

Edward knelt in front of her, looking up at her face. "Bella," his voice was smooth, calming. "I know that you care so much about people. You need to care about yourself too. Let us handle this. The safest spot for you, is right here. I'm not going to let anything bad happen to you or to Jake. I promise that."

"You can't promise that Edward- "

He leaned up, kissing her on the lips. His cool lips pressed to hers gently, and she could tell that he was trying to distract her. Bella kissed him back too, her heart rate spiking. Her hands went up, clutching at him, until she was laying backwards on the bed, him hovering over her, kissing her passionately.

He broke the kiss finally, and pulled himself back, going towards the far end of her room. "I'm sorry. I…" he closed his eyes.

Tears began falling for Bella, and she wiped at her face, trying to stop the tears from falling, but it was no use. Why was she just falling apart?

Edward sighed. "I'm sorry Bella."

She shook her head. "No. It's not you Edward."

"Get rest. I'll keep you updated on Stefan, okay?" Edward said gently.

Bella nodded, and rolled on her side, facing the wall.

Edward slid out of her room and walked down the stairs.

[Cue Voice Over]

Don't judge, please. It's one of those moments in my life, where I had no control over what exactly was happening. Things were happening fast, and I was thrust into the supernatural world without a warning. Edward was a different type of person. I cared about him, this much was true, and while his kiss had shattered me a little inside, it was nothing compared to Stefan. They were two different people, two different paths, and which one would I take? I suppose you would have to continue with my story, even though, it is quickly coming to an end.

[Later in the Night]

Stefan got to the Cullen's house super late in the night, and he was still feeling some burning afteraffects from being bitten by one of the nomads, a blonde man that was fierce. His consumption of animal blood made him weaker than his brother, and he was not as quick as he would like, but he would never be able to drink human blood and survive it. He knocked on the door, and Alice opened it. She let him walk inside.

Bella was sitting in the living room, trying to remain calm. She looked up at Stefan when he walked through the door. She didn't know why, but she stood, walking towards him, and threw her arms around him, her mouth connecting with his. His arms came around her, holding her to him, and he kissed her back.

"Hey, I'm okay babe, look at me." Stefan said, and Bella looked up at him. "I'm okay. I'm sorry I worried you."

Bella shook her head. "I'm sorry you got hurt."

Edward looked away. It was clear to him that Bella and Stefan were more than just friends. Or at least that is what it looked like.

Esme smiled. "Stefan, so happy that you're okay."

Stefan looked up at Esme. He had liked Esme, she was always so nurturing, and so kind, and that is what made her a good mother to this family. He smiled. "Thank you, Mrs. Cullen."

"Call me Esme," She said and looked to Bella.

"Esme," He said with a nod. He looked back at Bella. "Damon and Jasper have one of the nomads in custody. There are three altogether. It won't be long before this is over now." He said and kissed her forehead.

Bella leaned her head against his chest, and hugged him tight. She sighed. "Damon and Jasper will be okay right?"

Stefan smiled. Bella worried about everyone. "They'll be fine. Damon is very strong, and so is Jasper. Besides, Emmett is with them, and he's got super strength too. Nothing that they can't handle. Ric and Jeremy have Care and Ty helping, and don't forget Klaus and Elijah."

Bella nodded. "Jake went back out there. I just worry. I don't know why they are circling like this. I haven't even done anything to any of them."

"You don't have to. They're hunting in this area, and killing your father was just part of their game. Now that they have attracted the attention of another coven here, as well as other species, they are trying to weasel their way out. We won't let it happen, promise." Stefan said, and then pulled back a little, her arms dropping down, and his hand caught hers. "You need to get in bed, get rest."

"But-"

"You need to rest Bella." Stefan said softly. "Stop worrying about me. I will be okay. I have to get-"

Bella frowned. "But you were just hurt."

"I know."

"You can't."

Alice spoke up. "Bella, I'll be with him the entire time. I promise not to let anything happen to him. I can see the future remember?"

Bella looked at Alice and then she was moving to her, hugging her. Alice's tiny arms came around her, hugging her. "Be careful."

"I'll be joining. Bella, we won't let anything bad happen. Promise." Edward said. He offered a small smile.

Bella turned and looked at Edward, and went to him and hugged him, startling him. "You can't get hurt either," She murmured.

Edward moved a hand up to her hair, smoothing it a little. "I'll be okay. Don't worry." He said and looked up, his gaze meeting Stefan's. Bella cared too much about the people around her, and that was worrisome, but also commendable. It was something that Edward admired about her.

Bella leaned back, and sighed. "Everyone please be careful." She looked to Stefan who walked over to her and dipped his head in close, and kissed her. "I'll be fine. I've got my own security detail," he said with a wink, making Alice smile. Bella nodded, and watched the three go. She crossed her arms across her chest, hugging herself.

Esme was there by her side, rubbing a hand down her back gently. "He's going to be okay."

"I know…I just…"

"You love him." Esme said with a simple nod.

Bella frowned. "I…we're just friends. He's my best friend," she looked at Esme.

"He's more than that Bella," Esme said softly.

Maybe Stefan was something more to her. She didn't know. She cared a lot about him, and she couldn't imagine life without him at this point.

Rosalie appeared. "Bella, you need sleep. Stefan said to get some rest." She said, and this was the first time that Rosalie sounded gentler.

Bella turned, looking at Rose and nodded. "I'll go lay down. Please wake me up if something happens."

Esme smiled, nodding. "We will."

Bella sighed and went upstairs to her room and lay down on her bed.

[Somewhere in the valley, at the base of a mountain]

Caroline hooked on to the scent of the two other nomads, and they were flanking them, cornering them, and trapping them. The vampire that they managed to catch, James, was pretty strong, but cocky. His two other companions were a Victoria and Laurent with Victoria being his mate. Klaus and Elijah were the advantages they had because they were the strongest.

The valley was closing in, and the mountain was the dead end for the two vampires. They were surrounded now, and so the two stopped, looking around at what lie in front of them.

Klaus stepped forward, looking at Victoria first, her fiery hair was a tangle of curls, and her silk skin made her an exotic, Irish looking beauty, but her beauty would do her no good here. "Ah, Victoria," he said and looked to Laurent, the dark-skinned French Cajun that had dreads. His personality was more docile than Victoria who was hostile. "Laurent." He shook his head. "Your nomadic ways happened to kill a very important person."

"We're hunting like all of you do," Victoria lashed out at Klaus, her voice sounding like chimes against the wind.

"No, that is where you're wrong love, we do not hunt to kill anymore. Your kind simply cannot hunt without killing." Klaus said. "You killed a police chief."

"He was getting in our way," Victoria spoke again.

Damon growled. "That is his job. Unfortunate for you, he happened to be the father of a very special girl, a girl that belongs to our little coven here."

Laurent looked at Victoria. "I told you and James we needed to leave. I smelled wolves, and there was a coven nearby that had this territory marked. As per usual, you two don't listen."

"You should have listened to him," Elijah said. In a flash, Klaus and Elijah had the two vampires, and ripped them apart. Jeremy set fire to the bodies, and the lot watched them burn.

"You know, for once I'm happy you tagged along," Jeremy said, looking at Klaus. "This would have been way harder."

Klaus smiled. "Baby Gilbert, I'm touched." He looked to Caroline. "Love, we're heading back to Mystic Falls. Our job is done here." He said and looked to Damon. "I imagine you'll be staying here in this little town?"

Damon nodded. "You would be correct. Thank you for assisting."

"Of course. Anything for Elena's family." Klaus said with an easy smile.

Elena looked at Damon, and then looked away. She was a vampire now because of Klaus, but in doing so, she discovered a bond with Elijah. Something that she could never anticipate. She hurt Damon in the process, and she was just happy that he was finally speaking to her.

Damon nodded, looking over at Elijah. "Safe travels."

[Cullen House: The Next Morning]

Elena and Caroline came back to the Cullen house with Stefan and the others. They were going to say their goodbyes and get back home.

Bella was up, pacing around. When Jasper walked through the door, his brothers and Alice following him, she felt relived that they were home finally. Stefan, Caroline, and Elena walked in, Jeremy and Alaric right after.

"It's handled." Jasper said, smiling a tight smile at Bella.

Elena smiled at her cousin. "It's over. You can live in peace now cousin." She said and the two girls were hugging, Jeremy coming in with a hug too. Jake joined the party, looking around at everyone.

Bella smiled. "Thank you."

"Of course." Elena said and looked to Alaric and then back at Bella. "We have to get back home. School, and all, but after graduation, I'm going to come visit more."

Bella nodded. "I would like that."

Jeremy ruffled Bella's hair. "Don't get into too much trouble okay?"

Bella laughed. "I'll try not to." She watched as her cousins left with Alaric and Caroline. She liked Caroline. Even though she was Stefan's ex, Caroline was sweet, and reminded her of Alice sometimes.

"Bella," Stefan said, smiling a little. "I would like to talk to you in private."

Bella nodded, and she lead him up to her room. She closed the door. "I know they all have vampire hearing, so this really isn't private."

Stefan smiled and took a candle out of his pocket and set it down and lit it with a lighter he got from his other pocket. "It's a mute spell candle. Bonnie, she's a witch we know, she makes these. This room is a safe place."

"Oh," Bella said, looking at the candle. "That's…pretty cool actually."

He looked at her serious. "Bella, I wanted to tell you that I'm sorry for getting hurt, I didn't know you would be affected by it so much. I never meant to hurt you or scare you."

Bella shook her head. "Don't apologize. I know that you were trying to protect me, and to take care of the ones that killed my dad. So thank you."

Stefan studied her a moment. "I love you."

Bella blinked a few times. "What?"

"I love you Bella. I know that it seems crazy, but I just do. I love you, and I don't know what to do about it…honestly. My stay in Forks was never supposed to be permanent. I came here to get away from Mystic Falls, and away from Klaus. We…butted heads there, and it was frustrating to live in a town where he existed. We came here because Damon knew Jasper Whitlock, and he figured it would be a nice place to test. My intentions were to move on to Europe." Stefan explained, sighing. "But now…" he grabbed her hands with his, and rubbed his thumb over the back of them, looking down at them. "Now, I can't do that. I want to stay here, be with you. If you…if you want me that is."

Bella didn't know what to say, she was astounded. "Stefan I…"

"I know this is way too fast. As a vampire, our emotions are a bit intense sometimes, and so I love very easy and so fast, so if it freaks you out, I can leave and-"

She leaned up, kissing him, cutting him off. She tore at his clothes, and before she knew it he had her on bed, thrusting into her fast and hard, their mouths clashing against each other as they drove each other to their peak. His face slightly changed, the dark veins popping out, and his fangs making their appearance, but that didn't scare Bella.

Stefan was holding on to his control only barely, but he reigned himself in, and when she orgasmed around him, he did too, groaning with each pump as he emptied himself. His fangs retreated, and he let out a breath.

Bella kissed him again, gently. "I love you too," she murmured.

Stefan stared at her for a long moment, and then he rolled to his back, pulling her against him. "That…" He didn't know what to say now. His heart swelled with happiness, hearing those words.

"Can you…."

Stefan looked over at her, as she snuggled against him. "Hmm?"

"Does it hurt?"

"Does what hurt?" He asked quizzically.

"The fangs."

"Oh, not really. Did if frighten you? I'm sorry, I try to keep myself in control, and I…"

Bella shook her head, leaning up and looking down at him. "No, I wasn't afraid. You didn't bite me…"

He frowned. "I would never bite you Bella."

"I know, but…could you? Is that weird?"

Stefan closed his yes and sighed. "I can't drink human blood."

"But isn't that how you survive?"

"I don't feed on humans…only animals, like the Cullen's." He explained.

"Oh, I didn't know that." She said. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"

Stefan cut her off. "I used to…human blood is hard for me. I can't control myself very well when I drink it. It makes me dangerous, so I don't drink it. I haven't had human blood in a very long time."

Bella nodded. "I got it. I'm sorry." She offered a smile, and then she reached her slender hand up, and brushed it down his cheek softly. They gazed at each other for a long while until he sat up.

"I want to be with you forever," Bella breathed out.

Stefan frowned. "Bella…"

"I know that seems crazy, but I just do. I don't want to grow old and wrinkly and then die. I want to stay the way I am, with you, forever." Bella explained.

Stefan swallowed, looking down. "You don't want this life. Bella, you're damned if you become like me."

"So? Stefan, I don't believe in all of that. I only want you." Bella pleaded.

Stefan didn't know what to say. "This isn't something you just decide on a whim."

"But didn't you?"

Stefan was quiet. It was true that he became a vampire because of loving Katherine, but it wasn't something that he openly chose. He hadn't known what she was because she was compelling him to forget. When he was killed and became the vampire he was, he slaughtered his family and forced his brother into this same damned life, despite his brother wanting to not transition. But he did choose to transition. "I don't want you to act rashly. Or rush into anything. Why don't you just graduate high school first, and then we'll talk about this."

Bella nodded. "Okay, that's a good compromise." She smiled. "Secondly," she leaned in and kissed him again, her hands going to his bare chest, and then brushing over his skin, and she felt him shiver under her touch. He smiled against her lips, and then he was leaning her back against the bed, his hands going to play with her under the covers.

[May-Graduation]

The day finally arrived to be done with High School forever. Bella was excited to be done with this high school. She was thinking of college but wanted to take time off. She didn't know exactly what she wanted to do with her life, and that was the scary part.

The stage was put together well on the football field, and the several rows of chairs where the graduates would sit, were centered with the stage. Bella and sitting in her chair, anxiously waiting for her name to be called. It was overcast today, so she was hoping that they could get done with this before it rained on everything.

"Alice Mary Cullen…. Edward Masen Cullen….Emmett Dale Cullen…Jasper Whitlock-Hale, Rosalie Lillian Hale…" The principal called the Cullen family across the stage.

"Stefan Antonio Salvatore…Jessica Elizabeth Stanley…. Isabella Marie Swan." The three went across the stage, getting their diplomas, all smiled. People cheered in the bleachers as they got their diplomas, and walked off the stage.

After the graduation was finished, everyone gathered with their families.

Jake was there, wearing his cap and gown. Despite being a year younger, he had also skipped a grade when he was on the rez. He hugged Bella hard. "We did it sis."

Bella laughed. "We sure did." Carlisle and Esme walked over, as everyone gathered into a larger group. Damon joined just for the purpose of Stefan.

"Congrats everyone," Carlisle spoke. "Let's get back and celebrate."

They all filled into their cars and went back to the Cullen house. This is where Damon was meant to change Bella into a vampire. It didn't sit well with Jake at first, but he only wanted Bella to be happy.

Once back at the Cullen house, everyone was settling in, including Bella. Stefan looked at her. "Are you sure this is what you really want?"

"Yes. This is what I want Stefan. I love you," She said, and reached up, stroking his face. "I will be perfectly okay."

Edward didn't like this either. He had a real problem with this, and he hated that Stefan was allowing her to do this. He retreated to his bedroom, so he wouldn't have to be a part of this.

Carlisle had a blood bag from the hospital there for her, for when she woke up. "Okay Bella, the process is relatively easy compared to our process. It shouldn't be so painful, and the transition can take up to a few hours, but as soon as thirty minutes. Are you sure this is what you want?"

"It is Carlisle, thank you." Bella said with a smile.

Damon was there, bourbon in hand. He was frowning.

"What's wrong?" Bella asked.

He sighed. "I've killed people before Bella, but you are…special, and this is just going to be harder than I thought."

She frowned. "I'm sorry, I didn't-"

"I'll be okay," Damon offered a smile. He brought the glass to his lips, taking a sip.

Stefan turned Bella to face him, leaning down and kissing her. "I love you."

"I love you too."

Damon sighed, bit into his wrist, his blood pooling to the surface, he offered Bella his wrist, and she looked at it a moment, before she leaned in, her mouth covering the wound. Everyone was watching, curious as to what this would do.

Bella was surprised that the blood didn't taste so bad, but she wouldn't say anything. She leaned back and looked up at Damon. He was staring at her intensely.

"I'm sorry," Damon said, and before she could answer, he broke her neck. Darkness coming to her fast.

Stefan closed his eyes, tears already running down his face.

Damon gasped to himself, tears breaking the surface. "That was way harder," he said, looking at his brother. "She'll be okay."

"I know, but it doesn't hurt any less. You just killed my girlfriend brother."

Alice and Rosalie had gasped, their hands flying to their mouths at the awful sound of Bella's neck snapping.

Jasper sent calming waves into the room. He looked at his old friend. "I know that was hard. Damon, I could have- "

"No, it had to be me Major." Damon said and looked down at Bella. He leaned down, gathering her in his arms and carried her over to the couch and lay her there. Stefan went and stood by her side, he looked at his watch, holding her hand and waiting for her to return to him.

Two hours went by and she hadn't come out of it yet, and that made Stefan worry. "She's still not back."

Carlisle put a hand on his shoulder. "She will. Listen son," he said, and Stefan leaned in, his head going to her chest, and he could hear the faintest of beating in her heart. That made him feel better, and so he leaned up, and kissed her forehead.

Another fifteen minutes went by and then Bella sat up, sucking in a big breath, and looked around the room. Everyone was looking at her, except Edward, he wasn't there. She looked at Stefan, who had tears in his eyes, and then to Damon who was standing at the end of the couch, looking at her. "That actually did hurt," She murmured, and rubbed a hand over her neck.

Damon frowned. "I'm sorry."

"No…it's fine. It was a quick pain." She explained.

Carlisle handed her the blood bag, and Alice and Jasper had to leave the room, the smell of blood was harder for them than the others.

Bella took the blood bag and looked at it. She lifted the tube to her mouth, and she sucked it in, the blood hitting her mouth, tasting oddly sweet. The transition was complete.

Stefan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box. It contained her daylight right. It was beautiful, lapis lazuli framed with silver filigree, and some accents that included diamonds. It was tear drop shaped and was just breathtakingly beautiful. He slipped it onto her hand, and then laced his fingers with hers. "I love you so much, and I'm sorry that you had to go through all this. I would have been fine loving you for the rest of your human life."

"I know, but this is what I wanted Stefan," She smiled, and brushed her hand against his cheek. She leaned in, kissing him. "I love you."

[Cue Voice Over]

Cute story huh? My story wasn't so brilliant, or even that interesting. I fell in love with a vampire, and I wanted my eternity with him. I got that. I could never ask for a better best friend. He's the love of my life, and now my eternity. We traveled around the world, all over, visiting cities that I've never been to, and it was enjoyable. We returned to Mystic Falls, his home, a hundred years later, and we started high school again. But so did the Cullen's. I am now Bella Salvatore, because we married decades ago, but for the purpose of school, I'm Bella Cullen. I wish I could give you more to my story, but it's just that, a story, that will forever be with me, and now, maybe you could pass it along. Vampires are real, the world really is beautiful, and true love does exist, and so does love at first sight.
