Jeanine's POV
I said at the beginning of the story that my life changed in an instant. Well, now, I'm going to tell you about that day - the one where my life completely changed. It all started at an ice cream shop.
Me, Anya and Ace were chatting away, doing things that normal teens do. Anya was talking about her recent breakup with her boyfriend, Michael. She said, "I can't believe he just ditched me. But, our relationship was on the rocks for a while. It would have happened eventually." Ace didn't really talk much. It was the anniversary of Sonia 's death that day. He said he'd been having a hard time, with him still not being able to cope with Sonia's passing, being often underestimated at work, and his family issues. I knew Ace and his father Jackie had been having some problems. Mr. Bunny was angry with Ace for wanting to be an actor instead of continuing the legacy of their family's martial arts center. But, that's a story for another time. Now, we need to get back to our main story.
I was talking to them about a peculiar dream I had the previous night. I was in a strange white field. Then, after about a minute, a tube appeared. I traveled through it for a while and I could see nothing but bright flashing colors. When I came out of the tube, a scene like a movie started playing in front of me. It showed me staring at something in horror. Then, I heard a loud noise. Shockwaves appeared a few seconds later, annihilating everything in their path. Then, I heard someone saying, "Jeanine, look out!" Then, the shockwaves hit me, and I fell unconscious. Thankfully, it was just a dream, so I was okay. Then, there was a bright flash, and the second scene was set in motion.
In this scene, I was battling someone. The mystery being struck a sword at me, and appeared to want to harm me. I was crying and telling the mystery being, "You need to listen to me! You can't trust Moonlight, she's playing you! Please, dude, I don't want to hurt you!" The mystery being said in a smug manner, "Well, too bad, because I want to hurt you!" Then, they took a cut at my face and I howled in pain. I put a hand on my right eye, and found blood. Then, the bright flash appeared again, and a third and final scene had started to play out.
There was a strange woman in front of me. She had blonde hair, fair skin, and a purple dress. She handed me an outfit, and said, "Welcome to the team, Jeanine." It was a black uniform with blue accents, and a blue mask. I then said, "Wait. Are you sure I'm a good choice?" The woman said, "Of course. This is what you are meant to be, Jeanine. You can trust me." In the scene, I showed hesitation, but I then took the woman's hand and responded with, "Okay, I'll do it." Then, I went back through the tube, but instead of being in the white field, I was in a dark field and then the dream ended.
Ace and Anya were a bit perplexed by what I was saying. Anya asked, "Girl, that is one strange dream." "But, that's the thing Anya, some parts of the dream felt as if... I don't know, like they happened in real life." I explained. Ace told me, "Jeanine, Anya does have a point. Ya are one of da more weirder kids we know." I do have to admit, he was right. I am the more stranger of us two, but don't think that means I'm incompetent. I nodded and said, "Yeah, you're right. Come on, let's go." We payed the bill, and then began to leave. But then, a news report appeared. The one that changed my life.
When we were heading for the door, we heard someone saying, "We interrupt the current program for this special report." "Thank you, Angie. I'm Michael Exposition, and I am here with just-in news. Local celebrities, Michelle and David Ender, tragically passed away in a house fire today. The Ender mansion was searched, and five employees were reported dead, while seven others were injured in the flames. Their children, Sean and Stella Ender, have been reported missing. They were last seen in their bedrooms at 7:20 A.M. Their whereabouts remain unknown, but we are almost sure that they are still alive and well." Just then, a woman came on the set and whispered something into Michael Exposition's ear.
"Oh, right. In news not associated with that story, a meteor has been reported to be heading towards Acmetropolis. It has been said to have a gargantuan size, and where it came from is also unknown. But, it will definitely head towards this planet. Anyway, this is Michael Exposition." Then, he started to scream and panic. "EVERYONE, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE! PANIC!" Then, a sign saying, "We're experiencing technical difficulties. Please stand by", appeared on the screen. Everyone, including us, ran out of the ice cream shop, and found the meteor heading towards the planet. People were screaming, "A meteor! Falling from the sky! WE'RE ALL GONNA BE DOOMED!" Onr younger kid asked, "Aw, why couldn't this have happened on a school day?" People stopped screaming and glared at the kid. "What?" Then, they all started screaming again.
At that moment, Anya asked me without barely any emotion in her voice, "Um, what was it that Granny June said last week?" "That a meteor would soon be coming to Acmetropolis." I responded. At that moment, the world began to spin. What my Granny June said was true. Everyone began running, hoping and praying to get to their homes before the worst came. We began running too, but we wouldn't be fast enough. The meteor was getting closer and closer by the minute. All of us were so nervous. Anya looked like her heart was gonna jump out of her chest. Then, I started to feel dizzy. Everything around me was playing in slow motion. I fell down to the ground in my dizziness. Thankfully,I got up. I heard Ace say, "Jeanine, come on!", and I ran faster than I ever had run. Then, I halted in my tracks and looked up at the sky.
This was sort of similar to one of the scenes in my dream. I stared up at the meteor in horror. Just then, I heard Anya yelling, "Jeanine, you need to run!" I was too horrified to run. Anya quickly hurried to me in an attempt to help me. Ace followed behind her, and they both began running to me in an attempt to help me. Just then, the meteor hit the ground. It was about 50 feet away from me. Then, shockwaves started spurting out of the meteor. "Jeanine, look out!" Ace yelled. But, there was nothing we could do. The shockwaves hit all three of us, and then everything went dark.
Note: I'm sorry about the cliffhanger. What happened to the three will be revealed in the next chapter. Also, I know I declared the Ender twins as missing in this chapter, but what happened to them will be revealed later in the story.
