Kohaku needed to settle and end affairs in the demon slayer village once he and Izumi announced their new relationship status to Rin and Sesshomaru.
Izumi watched him leave from the porch and stayed until she could no longer catch his scent, long after he had disappeared from view.
"Do you feel better now about being with Lord Sesshomaru, Izu?" Rin asked curiously. "Now that you know what to expect, it isn't so scary right?"
"No." Izumi shook her head. "It doesn't mean I am looking forward to it however it doesn't seem as daunting of a task."
"Hm." Sesshomaru let out. "Interesting."
"What is my lord?" Rin questioned.
"Nowhere around or inside the compound smells of your copulation with Kohaku." He said. "How abhorrent of you Lady Izumi to allow a human male, no less, to rut you outside like an animal."
Rins mouth dropped before she bit her lower lip as her eyes went wide. She gaped at Izumi who knelt across from them over the table of the sitting room.
"I suppose I deserve that. Therefore you may have it my lord." She said quickly. "And yes, we did mate outside. It was exciting."
Laughing nervously and fanning herself Rin felt as if she had aged ten years. For a few tense moments she had worried that all of the progress they had all made was about to be destroyed in a moment.
"Izu, now that you're with Kohaku are you still going to produce an heir with Lord Sesshomaru?"
"Eventually. We will put it off for as long as we can. A few decades perhaps, a century." She replied.
"Oh." Rin said her shoulders sinking down. "I-I had thought that you both had wanted me there. I didn't realize that plan had changed."
"Of course you will be there Rin. Why wouldn't you be?" Izumi questioned with a small smirk. Taking in the confused expression of both Rin and Sesshomaru she became uneasy.
"Izumi, humans do not live as long as demons. You knew that, didn't you?" Rin asked slowly.
"Well, how long do you live for then?" Her voice took on a different pitch than normal, as if she were on the verge of an emotional outburst.
"There is no set time." Rin shrugged. "Some people live for up to six decades, a little more. Others only two or three. Some even less. Illness, injury, violence…there are many ways that humans die. Even when we survive all of that in what you would consider a short time we grow old, feeble, and we die"
Dropping her gaze to the table Izumi breathed heavily. "Neither of you thought to tell me this."
"It didn't cross my mind." Rin said. "It's just something that is."
Bringing her attention to Sesshomaru Izumi stared daggers at him. "You should have told me."
"I thought you knew." He replied.
"How could I have? Rin is the first human I have ever met. To me humans were like a mythical creature that I had only ever heard about. You made me bond with her, allowed me to accept a human male as my mate…for what? For them to die in a few years and leave me with you?!"
Standing quickly Izumi made her way for the door.
"Izu!" Rin stood and ran to her. "Where are you going?"
"This is a mistake." She shook her head quickly. "I must return to the east. This arrangement will not work. Not now nor ever."
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry you're hurting. My friend, I should have told you. Please my lady don't go." Rin began to sniffle and weep grasping her hand. "Forget about the breeding and everything else just…I don't want you to go."
Lowering her head Izumi clenched her eyes shut feeling the tears squeeze past her lids to spill down her cheeks. In a swift turn she faced Rin and embraced her.
Sobbing into her shoulder she held onto her for dear life, as if at any moment she would vanish. "We will all live together, here. Lord Sesshomaru and I, you and Kohaku. We'll be happy and together. We'll raise our children together. It will be worth it. I promise."
"Rin." Izumi whimpered out.
"Everything will be fine. You'll see." Rin soothed rubbing circles on Izumis back.
