With the help of some vikings, Eulianna's house was furnished when night fell. They gave her a bed, a couple chairs, a table, a desk and a dresser. Some of the vikings gave some of their extra and unneeded pieces of pillows, blankets and gave her some wood for the fireplace. The villagers who knew about Eulianna's existence on Berk were excited to see a princess and so they did all they could to impress her. A few of them even cleaned the place for her, saying "Anything for you, princess!" She did find it a bit overwhelming, but it was something she was familiar with.
Eulianna hung the sword and cape on wooden wall hangers that were built into the house and placed her father's chest on her desk along with her bag of gold and jewellery. She added some pieces of decor around the house, also provided by some vikings, and readjusted the positioning of the chairs by the fireplace. It was all done.
She was in the middle of admiring her home when she heard a commotion outside. She pushed her door open to see two figures in the boat she arrived in, slide from the highest part of the stone foundation all the way down across. It zoomed past vikings and smashed into pieces as it hit impact against another stone foundation. The two figures didn't seem bothered by the crash and cheered as they hit their helmets together and fell backwards.
Eulianna just stared in disbelief at them before she ran down to see if they were hurt. But instead of asking if okay, she said expressionless, "You broke my boat."
"Yeah, we did!" The boy of two duo raised his hand for the girl to high five, but the girl smacked her palm into his face. Eulianna deduced the two to be siblings as they both had long, blond hair, blue eyes and long faces.
"Hey, who are you?" The girl asked.
"I'm-"
"You kinda smell like flowers that were dunked in the ocean," The brother cut in. Eulianna was both creeped out at the fact he was smelling her but amazed that he pinpointed her scent. Linnea made her bathe with flowers the morning of the Protector's Festival and she did jump into the ocean.
"You're not from around here, are you?" The sister eyed Eulianna, scanning her outfit and overall appearance.
"No, I'm-"
The boy interrupted again, "She kinda looks like the kid of someone important. Like a king or something." He scratched his chin.
"That's actually-"
"It's dinner time!" The girl yelled as she darted past Eulianna and her brother raced after her. They headed towards some steep stairs which lead to these gigantic doors with two even larger statues each holding a lit torch.
Eulianna clapped her hands together and said to their retreating figures, "Good talk," as if they could hear her considering they were already tripping up the stairs.
Gobber was on his way to the Great Hall as he passed Eulianna. He put his hand on her shoulder and pushed her forward, urging her to walk with him.
"I see you met the twins," he noted.
"Yeah, they ruined my boat... and smelt me," Eulianna miffed. "Didn't even get their names."
"Tuffnut and Ruffnut Thorston," Gobber said. "Tuffnut's the boy, Ruffnut's the girl," he added as they reached the stairs.
Eulianna noticed the running theme of Berkians possessing weird names. Bucket, Mulch, Tuffnut, Ruffnut. Would they think my name is strange? Eulianna thought.
"Where are we heading anyways?" Eulianna asked her godfather.
"The Great Hall! The whole tribe gathers there to eat," Gobber replied as they made their way to the door.
Gobber and her entered the door where everyone was busy getting food or stuffing their faces. The adult helped her get a plate of food which Eulianna squirmed at. It wasn't the most pleasant sight and the vikings didn't care about food presentation, like how they did in the castle back at her kingdom.
Everyone was in this room. She didn't want anymore attention on her so she debated with herself if she should introduce herself as the Hjalfadargin princess, or just Eulianna, or maybe give herself a new name like how her dad went by Andy when he was on Berk. She listed off different alternatives of her name in her head.
Eulianna. Anna? Eulia? Euli? Lia? Lianna? Should I go by my middle name, Ursuline? Maybe shorten that to Ursa. Eulianna pondered. I don't have to be the princess here. I could be a viking.
"Everyone! Listen here!" Gobber boomed. The room hushed and all eyes turned to Gobber and Eulianna. "Meet Eulianna! She's the princess of Hjalfadargin and Andy's kid. You know that place that got festivals for their sheep! She's gonna be here staying with us for a while!"
Everyone started gossiping and yelling out questions to Gobber, their eyes latched onto Eulianna. She heard someone yell out, "Wait, Andy's a king?!"
Eulianna wanted to rebuild her broken boat, slide herself down a hill and crash into a rock and knock herself out. So much for trying to be low-key about her status, Gobber had just made it the complete opposite for her. Gobber left her alone to eat while he chatted with the other vikings so she slid herself to an empty table, which was slowly filling due to the curious vikings.
She was about to take her first bite of the food Gobber gave her, before a palm slammed the table in front of her, making her plate jump a little and her spoon fall out of her hand. She looked up to see a muscular boy, looking all smug as he smirked at the princess.
"Hey," he drawled in an attempt to sound sultry and attractive. "My name's Snotlout. If you ever need a king, I'm right here." He winked and pointed his thumbs to himself. "So how big's your castle? How many rooms does it have? Is it big enough to contain all of me?" He added.
Your ego is definitely ten times bigger than the castle, Eulianna thought. She didn't even know how to respond to anything he said until she decided to just ignore the questions about her home. "It's nice to meet you, Snotlout." Hearing a princess say his name was now probably one of the highlights of Snotlout's life.
"Your pleasure. Anyways, do you have your own armoury with a bunch of swords and axes?"
"No."
"Oh."
"The armoury is really for the guards. We've got bows and arrows too."
"That's so cool. You're so cool," Snotlout gushed and looked admiringly at Eulianna. He began daydreaming about living in a castle with his own servants and a kingdom who worshipped him. His daydreaming was interrupted when a kid behind him introduced himself to the princess.
"Hi! I'm Gustav-"
"Gustav!" Snotlout scolded. "I was talking to the princess!" The teenager and kid squabbled at each other as Snotlout walked away to try get Gustav of his tail, but the kid just was clingy. Eulianna took a bite of her food. She found the food to be just adequate.
"Hah, I knew you were a princess. You smelt just like one," Tuffnut said behind Eulianna.
Eulianna choked on the food she had in her mouth and coughed before swivelling in her seat to see the twins she met prior dinner.
"I could totally pass off as a princess. I've got long hair," Ruffnut commented as she lifted some strands from Eulianna's waist long hair, "and I just look like princess material," she voiced out rather confidently.
"You look more like an ugly peasant," Tuffnut added before snickering earning a punch in the face from his twin. He hit her back and they ended up brawling and moved away from Eulianna.
"What just happened?" Eulianna asked no one in particular as she turned back to face her dinner.
"That's vikings for you," a voice said to the left of Eulianna. Sitting at the other end of the bench was a teenager with auburn hair and freckles scattered across his face, rather scraggy compared to the rest of the people on Berk and much more composed than the other teenagers she had just met. He's the most scrawny person Eulianna has ever seen. The teenage boys back home were generally tall and fit. She swears she probably had more muscle mass than him. She could tell he was a few inches shorter than her, even though he was sitting down and slightly slouched over.
"Vikings. Very interesting lot you guys are." The boy didn't expect her to reply and was really answering the question for himself. He blinked twice before putting more food onto his spoon, not facing Eulianna.
"Interesting's one way to put it," he flashed his eyebrows before sipping whatever he was drinking. "I think Snotlout was more interested in your castle and not you." He stole a quick glance at the princess.
"Believe me when I say he's not the first," Eulianna said, exhaling a puff of air from her nostrils and quirked a smile. "Some of the first questions previous potential suitors have asked that if we were to get married, will they be sharing a room with me or will they be getting their own room. It's funny cause normally the princess would be moving into their castle."
He didn't envision the newcomer to carry a conversation with him or to open up so quickly about her meetings with princes. "Wow, they sound like delightful future husbands," the boy sarcastically commented.
"Why? You interested?" Eulianna grinned devilishly before laughing at the guy's taken back reaction. It was surprising to him for a princess, or even another teenager to crack such jokes or respond with the same energy. "Maybe to someone, but not me. I wouldn't wanna share my room with someone who is in love with my estate rather than me."
The boy felt himself ease into the conversation better. "Aw, you can't make exceptions?"
Eulianna let out a light laugh. "I didn't get your na-"
"Eulianna!" Gobber appeared out of nowhere and picked Eulianna up with his hand and took her away from the table and the boy she just met. "I've got to introduce you to Hertha! She's the one who found your dad when he washed up on Berk. Almost gave her a heart attack when she went fishing and she pulled out a body!" Gobber laughed.
"Wait, I was talking to-" Eulianna turned back to look at the boy she met to see he had disappeared.
—
Jakob and Selby were tasked by the duchess to go around Hjalfadargin to search for the princess's whereabouts. Jakob was irritated at the fact that the princess decided to "be foolish and make the kingdom worry," as he said multiple times the moment he heard the news of Eulianna's disappearance. Selby agreed too, but he would never call the princess foolish. The duo have been around almost everywhere.
Linnea was weeping and impossible to understand when they asked her about the princess's whereabouts. The other maids weren't as a mess however still appeared downhearted, but they claim that they didn't see where the princess went.
When they asked Erland, he also burst into tears and blubbered in Nirhongan. Selby translated to Jakob that Erland lamented, "Where could our precious princess be? Her great-grandfather must be so worried! May all the gods watch over her!" before he ran off to stress-chopped a whole sack of vegetables in the kitchen.
They asked the different noble families that lived on Hjalfadargin including the Hjolmes. Rorik remained with composure as he was questioned in his home with the rest of his family next to him.
"Lord Rorik, are you sure you haven't seen the princess? We know you two are friendly with each other," Selby questioned one last time. The Hjolmes looked at the teenage boy waiting for him to answer. His younger sister, Annifrid sized him up taking notice of how he was fiddling with the ends of his sleeves.
"I haven't seen her. Sorry. If you would excuse me," Rorik announced to his family and the guards as he rose from his seat and exited the room. It wasn't technically a lie. Rorik hasn't seen her since she had disappeared but he had a strong feeling of where she would be.
"My poor son. He must be so distraught after hearing his friend is gone," Rorik heard his mother, Lady Nisse Hjolme, agonise behind the closed door. Rorik felt like a ton of rocks fell onto him, knowing he just lied to royal authorities and that he would have to face the consequences if they ever were to find out he was covering for Eulianna. Not that she asked him to, but Rorik knew it was the right thing to do. It was the right thing for a friend to do.
After questioning the Hjolmes, the two guards went into the village where the merchants, craftspeople, and farmers resided. They asked villagers who walked past to which none gave them any leads to where the princess could be.
"This is a waste of time," Jakob groaned.
"Hello," a young voice said in Nirhongan as Selby felt his uniform being tugged down. Selby looked down to see a child staring up at him.
"Hello, young one. Do you need something?" Selby squatted down to match the girl's height.
"I'm Iva. I heard you're looking for the princess."
"Yes, but we haven't been lucky."
"I think I saw her on the night of the festival. But I'm not sure. She said she likes to dress like the princess. But she looked very similar to her," Iva recalled.
"What's the runt saying?" Jakob nudged Selby with his boot.
"She said she might've seen the princess during the festival."
"Where'd she see her?"
"I saw her going to the stage and she was looking for my sister," the girl answered Jakob's question.
"You understand what he said?"
"Yes, but I don't wanna talk to him. He looks scary," Iva responded and she tried her best to glare at Jakob. "But I don't think the princess is lost. I think she doesn't want to be found."
Selby's face untensed. The half-Nirhongan guard understood what Iva was trying to say, but he was still loyal to the duchess. "Thank you, Iva," he smiled at her before walking off, Jakob following him.
"Well, what she say?" Jakob asked.
"She last saw someone who looked like the princess go to the stage at the night of the festival," Selby translated the rest of what Iva said. "And that you're ugly."
"Shut up. She did not say that."
"Nah, she didn't."
"Prick."
The two continued their questioning as they went down to the docks and asked some of the fishermen if they had noticed anything. Most of the fishermen were enjoying themselves at the festival, besides one.
"Hmm, my memories are a bit hazy and my eyesight isn't as great as it used to be," Sveinn thought as he scratched his beard. "But I think I did see someone jump onto the trader's ship. They were wearing a cloak. A cloak no merchant or peasant would wear. I'm pretty sure they were wearing orange clothing underneath it."
"Do you know where that ship was headed?" Jakob queried, as he and Selby shared a knowing glance at each other.
"I think it was to the east. To DunBroch."
The guards thanked the old fisherman as they rushed back to the castle to update the duchess on the information they had gathered. If the person Sveinn saw was the princess, then she was nowhere on Hjalfadargin and could be countries away by now.
—
"Morning Gobber." Eulianna walked through the entrance of the blacksmith forge where her godfather was hammering away at a bent sword. Eulianna stepped over the stray materials on the ground and awed at the number of swords, axes, hammers, shields and other weapons that were in the small shack.
"Mornin' lass! Sleep well?" Gobber greeted her, finishing up the sword he was on before tossing it into a pile.
"Just fine. The bed was a bit stiff but nothing a couple stretches can't fix," Eulianna bent her neck from side to side, wincing when she heard a crack. "So you make weapons and fix weapons?"
"My role is more important than you'd think! Everyone needs ready weapons when a raid is happening, those dragons are getting tougher by the day," Gobber huffed.
"And you do it alone?"
"Pretty much. I mean my apprentice helps sometimes," Gobber nodded his head towards his apprentice who Eulianna didn't realise was there. Eulianna peered behind Gobber to see the boy she met at dinner last night, having trouble lifting one of the larger weapons. "I'll be back I need to get more coal," Gobber moved around Eulianna and left the forge.
"So you're Gobber's apprentice?" Eulianna walked in front of the boy who was leaned over with his hands on his knees.
He uttered a yelp when he saw her shoes in his view and looked up to see the taller girl smiling down at him. "Hi! Again. Yep. That's me." He stood up straight, lifting his head trying to match her height. "How's your new castle here on Berk?" He asked. He thought the small talk they had last night would be the only conversation between the two, so he was stunned to see her before him. Maybe Hjalfadargs are just friendly, he thought.
Eulianna's smile grew wider as she leant against the workbench. "It's… cute."
"Cute?"
"Yeah, it's so much smaller than my bedroom back home, but it's fine," Eulianna's eyes crinkled as she held back a laugh. It wasn't completely false, though Eulianna did find it a bit difficult trying to get used to a more confined area when she was used to being in large, vast rooms.
The boy found himself at ease again hearing the princess joke around again. "Woah ho, I see you're not ashamed of showing how lavishly you lived."
"Of course not. Yes, my new house is so cramped I can barely twirl around in my dress. Oh, how hard it is to be a princess in a small house," Eulianna faked a sob but failed to continue her little show when she giggled. The freckled boy stifled a laugh.
"Do you like doing this?" Eulianna gestured to all the weapons as she changed the subject.
"Yeah…?"
"I'm not convinced."
"I mean. I've learnt a lot of things from Gobber like how to craft things from leather and metals. And, I'm pretty important during a raid."
"Raids… Dragon raids, isn't it?"
"The only raids around here. Happens way too often, you'll be bound to see one soon."
"I've actually already seen one," Eulianna mentioned. "On my way here. The thing took my fruits." She frowned as she remembered the encounter. "Interesting creatures, they are. It was taunting me, you know. It was sitting right on my boat, just two arms length away from me."
"And it didn't eat you?" the boy asked, leaning in a bit, surprised to hear a princess survived a dragon. "Did you fight it?"
"No? I just let it take my apples," she replied. "Why would I fight a dragon?"
He shrugged. "It's what vikings do. Did you have no dragons back home? Isn't Hjalfadargin not that far from here?"
"Hjalfadargs didn't really… there's no other way to put this, but they didn't believe in dragons," Eulianna revealed, earning a bewildered look from the boy. "I know, that's what I said. They believed them to be just a piece of mythology. Which is absolutely insane, because we've had raids before. And I'm pretty sure they were dragon raids. I think they just tried to cover it up as pirates to not freak everyone out. My mother used to tell me stories about dragons she saw when she was still in Nirhong. And also," Eulianna scanned the area if anyone else was listening in on their conversation. "I'll show you something."
Eulianna began shrugging off one side of her dress, making the boy's face warm up and he looked in the other direction. He just met the girl last night and didn't know princesses, or just her, was this forward.
Eulianna noticed his face completely red and snickered. "Relax, I'm not going to deflower you." He only grew more red because of that comment. He still found things a bit awkward with her, but he found her frankness reassuring and helpful in avoiding embarrassing situations. At least for now.
"C'mon, look," Eulianna urged. The teenage boy turned his face towards her without actually looking at her. Eulianna sighed before grabbing his chin and turned it towards her.
The boy finally looked at the girl and saw her bare shoulder exposed, but what wasn't shocking was her shoulder, but the skin was damaged, ridged and red. It started from the top of her shoulder and stopped above the middle of her bicep and even spread towards the edge of her chest.
"Oh my gods," he gasped. "A dragon did this to you?"
Eulianna pulled her dress back up and readjusted it, before she said, "I think so. I'm pretty sure it was a dragon."
"It looks… bad. And seeing the dragon on your boat. Wouldn't you have wanted to kill it? Because a dragon hurt you."
"I mean it was scary but strangely enough, I was just curious. Would've been cooler to say I slew a dragon, huh?" Eulianna pushed a stray strand of hair behind her shoulder. The boy looked at her, face changing from sympathy to intrigue.
He was about to speak before one of the villagers he was familiar with interrupted their conversation as she asked, "Where's Gobber?"
"Astrid! Hi! I mean, hey!" The boy waved, hand flailing awkwardly.
Eulianna turned around to see a blonde teenage girl with bangs covering her left eye at the other side of the workbench. She answered her question. "He's not here at the moment. Your name's Astrid? My name's-"
"Eulianna. I heard. Last night."
"Nice to meet you, Astrid. Hope we'll be acquaintanced at the least," Eulianna offered kindly.
"And you. A bit weird for a princess to decide to stay on an island full of vikings," Astrid pointed out as she raised a brow. "Won't it be hard to adjust to all this?"
"I'm sure it'll be just fine. My aunt didn't think I was like a princess enough. I sure don't miss seeing her face," Eulianna's arm crossed her body as she thought about the duchess and her controlling personality.
"You might wanna start with your clothes. You wanna be a viking? Try to look like one," Astrid added. She directed her attention from the girl to the boy. "Gobber said he fixed my axe."
The boy had been standing by the girls staring dreamily at Astrid before she spoke to him. "Right! Here you go." He handed the axe to the girl with both hands. Astrid inspected it before leaving the two teenagers in the shack.
Eulianna had been looking down at her dress ever since Astrid pointed out her outfit and whipped around to face the boy. "By chance, do you know anyone who could give me clothes?"
The boy told Eulianna about a woman named Hertha who specialised in clothing and lived not far from the forgery. Eulianna made her way over to the woman's house and she realised she had forgotten to ask the boy's name again.

Little Pixar easter egg in this chapter :)
