Now: It's Lana's birthday!
Chapter 7- Lana's First Birthday
Cake? Check. Dinner? Check. Gifts? Check. Games? Check.
Sasha was pacing around her bedroom looking over the list of things needed to celebrate Lana's first birthday on a datapad. This was the hundredth time this week that Sasha was looking over it. And everytime she looked at it, it felt like she was still missing something.
"You're going to wear tracks into our floor," Viran said with a chuckle as he entered into the bedroom
Sasha stopped pacing and looked at him. He entered the room with Lana in his arms, balancing on his hip, in a cute little dress with a matching bow in her hair. Sasha smiled at the sight of her.
"Our guest of honor is all dressed up and ready to party," Viran said as he danced a little with Lana.
Lana giggled as he did that.
"She looks great, hun," Sasha complimented as she came over and planted a kiss on her daughter's head.
"Are you still going over that list?" Viran asked as he gestured to the datapad in her hands.
"Yes, I still feel like I am missing something," Sasha said with a sigh.
Viran reached up and placed a hand on her cheek. "We have dinner being made. Op's made an amazing cake. And everyone has a gift for her. The only thing we are missing now is the three of us for the party, because we're back here. That's it," he said simply. He then placed his forehead against hers as he continued to caress her cheek.
Sasha sighed as she laid her hand on top of his. "You're right. I just want today to be perfect."
"Sasha, she's one," Viran said with a smirk as he pulled away. "She doesn't care what happens today."
"But I care," Sasha said with a smile.
"Oh I know," Viran said, bemused. "Now let's go. The rest of the family is waiting for us." Sasha nodded as Viran started heading out of the room. "Leave the datapad." He called over his shoulder at her.
Sasha chuckled as she set the datapad down on the nearby dresser as she followed them out the room. Together, the three of them headed through the house and to the kitchen where dinner was being made.
After a delicious dinner and dessert, the family retired to the living room for the remainder of the evening. Viran sat on the floor with Lana as she played with her new toys.
"Thanks again for the gifts," Sasha said as she sat on the couch, watching Viran and Lana play. "I think she likes them." She chuckled.
"Cien wouldn't let me get her a vibroblade." Kyr said, in a slightly petulant tone. And she rolled her eyes at him.
Sasha chuckled at that. "Thank you for that," she whispered to Cien.
"Yes, we need to save something for when she turns two." Cien whispered back.
At that, Sasha laughed. "Might need to wait a couple more years, but good thing to plan ahead," she joked.
"Yes, all culminating in a ship when she turns sixteen I presume." Oppie said, having heard their conversation.
"Definitely," Viran said with a nod. "But first she needs to learn to fly a ship." He then looked down at Lana. "What do you think? Three years old is a good time to start learning to fly, right?"
"Definitely, after we take her on her first hunt, right?" Kitsu said, looking over at Illara.
"Yep." Illara said with a smirk.
Sasha rolled her eyes. "You all are awful," she chuckled. "At least wait until she can walk and has a good grasp of her Force abilities before we start taking her into dangerous situations."
"So when she's five?" Viran joked.
Sasha groaned and rolled her eyes again. "Not what I meant."
"Probably six." Cien said simply.
"Oh ye of little faith." Kyr said, "she should be good to go at four, that's when Mando's start." Kyr said, glancing at Kitsu and Illara.
"Yeah, as soon as you can hold a blaster." Kitsu responded.
"Younglings usually start their training as early as three," Viran reminded Sasha.
"I know. And I know you all have the best intentions for her," Sasha said, frowning slightly. "But she just turned one and hasn't begun walking or showing any signs of her abilities even though she has a strong connection to the Force."
"Well we have been practicing walking with her," Viran said as he stood from the floor. "Let's try again."
He picked Lana up from playing.
"Ro," Lana said as she shook her head, not wanting to be picked up at the moment. That was her way of saying 'no'. A term she started saying a few days ago along with 'ye' for 'yes'.
"Come on, Lana," Viran said with a smile. "Just for a minute then you can play again."
"Ro," she repeated, very insistent.
Viran ignored her and set her down on the floor, allowing her feet to touch the ground. He held onto her hands to keep her standing. "Alright Lana, let's try walking over to the couch," he said as he started nudging her forward.
Lana took one step then another then another then… She fell to her knees letting go of Viran's hands and crawled the rest of the way to the couch. Viran sighed in defeat.
"Well so much for walking," he said simply.
Sasha leaned over and picked Lana up once she reached the couch. She then set her down in her lap.
"Good try, sweetie," Sasha said, kissing Lana's head. "You too." She added to Viran.
"Thanks," Viran said as he came over and sat down on the arm of the couch.
"Crawling can be very effective too." Kyr added. "Saves on boots, just need some knee plates."
"Not a bad thought," Viran agreed with a nod.
"Well maybe we can try again later," Sasha suggested. "Maybe at the lake if we actually decide to do that trip idea." She said as she bounced Lana gently on her knee.
"You guys should." Cien put forward.
"Really?" Sasha asked, looking at her.
"Yeah, I think it would be nice for you guys to go on that trip." Oppie agreed. "And Lana's old enough to travel now."
"I guess," Sasha said, still a little unsure.
"Sash, we haven't had a trip just the two of us since before Lana was born," Viran pointed out. "Now that she is old enough, it would be nice to do a family trip. Plus I know how you've been wanting to see Naboo for a while now. It would be a lot of fun. Besides, these guys can handle things around here without us for a week."
At that Sasha looked from Viran to Cien. "Can you handle them for a week?" She asked her.
"Hey!" Kyr spoke up.
"We might take that as an opportunity to go visit your folks." Kitsu said, eyeing Illara.
Cien looked between Kyr and Oppie. "I'm sure it will be fine."
Sasha chuckled. "Alright, looks like we are going on a vacation," she said.
"Awesome!" Viran cheered as he pumped his fists in the air.
"Ye!" Lana cheered in agreement.
Sasha and Viran beamed at that.
Kyr chuckled. "Glad she knows her priorities."
"That's for sure," Sasha agreed as she glanced over at Kyr.
"Uh… Sasha," Viran said, trying to get her attention.
"What's up?" Sasha asked him, looking at him.
"Are you doing that?" Viran asked as he wasn't looking at her. But whatever he was looking at, he was staring at it incredulously.
Sasha followed his gaze and gasped when she saw one of Lana's toys floating over from the pile on the floor towards her, very slowly. "No… that's not me. Cien? Op? Are you guys doing that?" She asked, surprised by what was happening.
"Nope." Oppie answered, looking on with quiet surprise.
"Well, we always knew she was a Force user." Cien said.
Sasha looked down at Lana, who was holding her little hand out as the toy got closer. She grabbed the doll out of the air and giggled as she held it close. Sasha stared at her with wide eyes.
"Yeah, she's never used it before. She just used the Force for the first time," Sasha gasped. She then smiled. "Oh sweetie, I'm so proud of you." She cheered as she hugged Lana close.
"Way to go, kiddo," Viran congratulated.
"Is this when her lightsaber training starts?" Kyr asked.
"No, but this does mean we can start her on some basic Force training here soon," Sasha said, still beaming.
"Saber training will begin once she is a little bit older," Viran stated.
"Well as long as she's not toddling around the house zapping us with lightning." Kitsu said.
Sasha and Viran laughed at that.
"Not unless Cien teaches her that," Viran joked.
"Well, I can if you want me to." Cien said with a smirk.
Sasha chuckled at that. "Let's give it sometime then we can all help in training her to be the best Mando-Jedi she can be," she said before placing a kiss on Lana's head as Lana looked at them all as she played with the doll.
