Sana chose to stay with Jiro by her side or Riku. She felt safer with them but had begun to venture on her own without bothering either one to consistently accompany her or follow her around.
While she would never be completely free of what had occurred and how she came to be in this odd pack as everyone called it she was glad.
Her mother had told her once that everything happened for a reason and that good things could come from hardship. Picking at the mushrooms she was gathering she sighed.
She did miss her family but so much time had gone by already that she knew they assumed she was dead. The shame that would come to them if she appeared suddenly and told them what had happened…shaking her head.
"I am better off here."
"It is not a bad place." A voice said from her side. Jumping up she gripped her basket tightly as the other came into view.
"Rentarou, you frightened me."
"My apologies. I wasn't trying to sneak up on you." He said. Sana sighed relief.
"It is alright. Are you patrolling?"
"Unofficially, yes." Offering a small smirk he walked closer to her. "Where are your escorts? I have noticed you always have one of the dog demon guards by your side."
"Close by." She replied quickly. Taking a step back she became nervous. "I am going to rejoin Jiro now."
"We can walk together." Rentarou offered.
"No it's, it's fine." Taking another step back the man followed. "Stay away from me."
"We are in the same group Sana. There is nothing wrong with us spending time together." Reaching for her Sana turned on her heel dropping her basket to run.
"Ji…" She attempted to yell for her friend as she was grabbed around her waist and tossed to the ground forcing the wind from her.
"Quiet." He snapped slapping her across the face as he pinned her wrists. "None of them will believe you. I am trusted by Kohaku, he'd never believe what you say and he would convince the others that you're a liar."
"Riku!" She managed to scream before her mouth was covered. Rentarou began to tie her with some rope he had been carrying using her hair cloth to gag her.
Dragging her to a sitting position he slapped her again. "Now why did you do that?" Taking out a salve he smeared it on her face and hands. "The demons won't be able to detect your scent with this."
Whimpering as he picked her up to carry her over her shoulder she shook her head screaming into her gag. Tossing her head from side to side tears streamed down her face.
"What are you doing?" She heard Emis voice trying to turn around she felt small hands grasp her ankle. "Let her go!"
Rentarou threw Sana to the ground as he gripped Emis wrists twisting them.
"Nosy demon. You should have minded yourself."
"Ah! Stop! Let me go! Lord Sesshomaru! Lord Kohaku!" Emi screeched as she was brought to her knees.
"Let her go." The snarl came from the demon lord. Sana glanced up to see him standing close to her. Grasping Rentarou by the neck he squeezed.
Releasing Emi Sana watched as he brought Rentarou to unconsciousness tossing him on the ground. Untying Sana he assisted Emi up as she cradled her wrists to her body.
"What is going on?" Sesshomaru questioned the two females.
"My lord, I was flying I saw, I saw the human taking Sana." Emi whimpered out.
"He attacked me, my lord." Sana managed to say.
"Sana." Riku called running towards her. "I heard you call for me. Lord Sesshomaru." Looking to the ground he narrowed his eyes.
"Seize him. Bring him back to the barracks. He will be dealt with for assault against the females and attempted rape." Sesshomaru ordered.
"Gladly my lord." Riku growled out taking the rope that Rentarou had used on Sana to tie him tightly.
"Come." Sesshomaru beckoned the two.
"I am sorry Emi. I am sorry you were hurt." Sana said tearfully as they were led back to the compound.
"Don't be." She replied. "I am glad I saw you. I will be alright."
"But your arms…"
"I will heal faster than you would." She said. "I'd rather I be hurt than you. Injuries can be much more grave for humans than for demons. I'll recover in a days time."
Coming to the back of the compound Sesshomaru glanced to Riku that dragged Rentarou behind him.
"Take him into the barracks and stand guard. I will find Kohaku." Sesshomaru said.
"Yes my lord." Riku paused. "Go to Iku. She will help you both."
"Sana…" Emi encouraged as she stood still staring at the ground.
"What have I done wrong?" Clenching her hands into fists she began to shake.
"Nothing." Emi said softly.
"Well it must have been something!" She shouted whipping her head up to stare at Emi. "There has to be something wrong with me that men want to force themselves on me!"
"Sana?" Iku asked from behind her. Taking in Emi who was visibly injured to Sanas disheveled appearance made her feel ill. "What has happened?"
Moving quickly she was next to the two inspecting them both.
"Rentarou attacked Sana in the woods. I saw it and tried to stop him. Lord Sesshomaru saved us." Emi replied.
"Come on. We're going home." Reaching for Sana she jerked back.
"Don't touch me!" She screamed wrapping her arms around herself. Shaking and hyperventilating she ran past both of them towards the forest.
"Sana!" Both Iku and Emi called after her to no avail.
"She is not well Iku, she may try to hurt herself." Emi said desperately.
"I cannot smell her." Iku stared sniffing at the air around them. "Why can't I smell her?"
"Lord Sesshomaru, Lord Kohaku." Emi said as they approached walking briskly. "Sana has run off into the trees."
Both stopping Sesshomaru cocked his head slightly confused.
"My lords, her scent is being covered. Perhaps Rentarou did something to hide her scent from us." Iku twisted her hands nervously.
"Kohaku, deal with this. I will seek out Sana. Iku, inform Rin and Izumi what has happened." Sesshomaeru ordered.
"With pleasure." Kohaku ground out to make his way to the barracks.
"Emi, go to my hut. I will be there shortly." Iku said running to the front of the house. "Lady Izumi."
"Iku. What has happened?" Standing she dropped the needlework and was on the ground in a moment.
"Rentarou attacked Sana and Emi. I saw Riku taking him to the barracks." She explained. "Emi is hurt and Sana has run away. Lord Sesshomaru went after her. Kohaku is with Riku."
"Rentarou hurt them?" Rin asked her voice wavering with sadness.
"Rin, help Iku with Emi." Izumi instructed walking to the barracks quickly. Entering she saw Rentarou tied up unconscious with visible claw marks and bruising on his neck.
Kohaku looked to her and blocked her view.
"You shouldn't be in here." He said. "We will deal with this."
"He attacked my females. Allow me to have my piece mate." She growled.
"Alright." Stepping aside Izumi approached Riku.
"Wake him." She commanded. Hitting him in the side Rentarou moaned out as his lids opened groggily. Looking around he rolled his eyes.
"Chief." He said to Kohaku. "Whatever the women have said is untrue."
"Then I suppose what Lord Sesshomaru said is also untrue." Kohaku stated.
"What did you do?" Izumi questioned slowly. "Admit it to me now and we will not be so aggressive towards you."
"My lady, the woman Sana came to me willingly. It was just a game that was mistaken." He pled.
"Oh?" She questioned.
"Yes. Sana is…embarrassed which is why she is upset."
"Hm." Glancing at Riku she sensed how tense he was. It was taking every bit of energy in him not to gut the man on the ground. "You know, Riku is by all rights Sanas father. I suggest you try again. If you keep lying he will become angrier and I will not be able to help you."
Looking up at Riku he couldn't stop the shudder that ran through him at the feral look he was being stared at with.
"Riku, search him." Kohaku ordered. Roughly Riku seized him finding the small container of salve and handing it to Kohaku. "You put this on Sana so the others wouldn't be able to track her scent."
"What?" Riku nearly roared.
"It is used by demon slayers to hide our locations from demons. You used this to hide her, to take her, and to rape her." Kneeling down Kohaku seethed with anger. "I trusted you. Brought you into my pack, around my little ones and my women."
Feeling his wifes hand on his shoulder he stood. Izumi knelt down in his place with her hands in her lap.
"Oh come on! It was just a servant girl! Who cares if I tried to have my way with her?" Rentarou shouted at them flippantly.
"I care!" Kohaku shouted back. "She is mine to protect!"
"Do you know what we do to rapists in the east?" Izumi questioned calmly. Receiving a threatening glare she stood. "Riku, explain to Rentarou what you do to males who force themselves on a female."
Crouching down he yanked the humans head back by the hair.
"We cut a symbol onto their foreheads so others will know their crime for many, many years. They become exiles unable to hold any position or take a mate, they are ostracized." Riku growled out. "In your case, being a human, you will probably be marked for the rest of your life."
Holding him still as he began to struggle he saw Rikus claw hovering in front of his face.
"No. Don't lay another finger on me demon!" Rentarou shouted as he closed his eyes tightly feeling the burn of his flesh being pierced.
