Mitsuo had begun to relent and loosen up on his feelings of Jin being closer to them. Emi took it as an opportunity to make peace between her mate and the other human man.
Under Sanas instruction Emi prepared a meal for them all to share. Waiting for both Jin and Nen to return from patrol she stood in the doorway of her hut glancing back occasionally at her children to make certain the three older ones were not getting in to any trouble.
Mitsuo had promised he would be back as he had decided to take a walk which she assumed was to settle his emotions before they arrived.
"Nen, Jin." Emi called out cheerfully waving them down as they neared the quarters they shared with Jaken.
"Stay here." Nen told his mate as he went towards the small dove. "Is everything alright Emi?"
"Yes. I want to invite you and your mate to eat with Mitsuo and I today." She replied.
Nen seemed nonplussed but knew he was wary. "My mate has decided to bridge this gap that has formed between all of us. Besides all of that, you and I have known one another for some years now. I want our mates to be cordial at the least."
"Alright." Motioning for Jin he walked slowly towards Nen and Emi.
"I am not supposed to be this close to you and I have respected that until, well, now." He said nervously.
"All is well Jin. Both of you, come inside. Mitsuo will be joining us shortly." Standing aside to let them both in she offered them a place to sit at the small table she had prepared.
"Did you make this Emi?" Jin asked impressed by the arrangement of rice, dried fish, and soup.
"Sana helped me quite a bit. I have been learning since living with Mitsuo how to cook what he likes. Rin taught me how to make a rice and milk porridge for the hatchlings when they were small before they could eat other things." She said for conversation sake.
"This smells amazing. I am not much of a cook, the only things I can prepare are rice and tofu. Which is adequate but bland." Jin said.
"Well, if all goes well then maybe Sana can teach us both and we can make meals together." Emi smiled softly.
"That would be fun." Jin returned as Mitsuo entered his home. Closing his mouth Jin simply offered him a small bow of his head.
"Nen, Jin." Sitting next to Emi Mitsuo squared his gaze at them both. "I want to make something clear before we go forward. I still don't trust you Jin and I do not forgive you for the harm you caused."
"I understand." He said with a slight nod of his head.
"However we should at least be able to work together for the good of the group. My being at odds with you will not benefit anyone and only cause strife." Mitsuo said.
"I agree." Jin nodded some more. "From here on out I will become someone you can rely on if need be." Receiving a nod from Mitsuo in acceptance Emi began to serve the food in small separate bowls for everyone.
"Nen, do you eat this type of food?" She asked.
"I do." Taking her offered bowl he poured some of his soup onto his rice.
"Why wouldn't you eat such splendid food Nen?" Jin asked.
"Some demons do not." Emi said. "What they require are other demons in order to maintain their energy levels."
"Oh." Jin said looking to his mate. "I cannot recall actually even seeing you eat a thing."
"Jiro and I learned a long time ago to eat what is available regardless of what it may be. We couldn't afford to be picky." Nen replied. "It wasn't until we went to serve the west that we learned how to properly nourish ourselves."
"So then, when I learn to cook different things will you try them?" Jin asked hopefully.
"That depends on what it is." Nen stated unable to resist baiting his mate.
"You just said…" Jin began before he stopped remembering they were in company and in someone else's home. Closing his mouth he bit his tongue, hard.
Finishing their meal with some companionable chat the two bid their goodbyes to get some rest before they had to take their posts in a few hours.
Emi cleared the dishes placing them in to her dirty bucket to wash as Mitsuo tended to the children.
"That went well." She said looking to her husband.
"More or less." He retorted. "I'm only doing it because you made me."
"And I thank you for that my dear heart." Emi smiled at him. "Do not misunderstand me, I don't trust him either but we need to all get along."
"We do." Picking up one of their daughters as she chirped at him for attention he smiled at her before kissing her downy hair. "We really should name all of you."
Hearing Emi audibly sigh she finished the dishes wiping them down.
"It's a big decision. A much harder task then I thought it would be." She said.
"We have already picked their names we just have to start using them." Mitsuo replied.
"Yeah. You are right mate." Putting the bowls away she walked to them and sat. "Alright; you are Ko." Placing her finger on her daughters nose the little girl giggled.
Picking up their other daughter she cuddled her. "Your name is Saki. Would you like to tell our eldest son his name?"
"Our son," Placing his hand on the boys head he smiled widely at his son, "You are Tadashi."
"Now, they all know their names." Emi said happily.
"We have four children Emi." Mitsuo looked at her as she glanced over at their youngest sleeping in his basket.
"Don't rush me husband." She responded quickly. Sighing he couldn't help the chuckle that came at her reluctance.
