A Mistake in Time rewrite:

Earth-X

Year: 2019

Location: Hokkaido, Japan.

Clang, clang, clang,

The sound of metal on metal echoed through the air, disrupting the tranquility and quiet of the forest; not that it mattered, since no one was around to hear the battle. Which was a shame since it was the last battle between two foes and the end of a war.

A war that had started long before one of the battle participants had even been born. It was a fact that held no significance to the two warriors that stood across from each other; some might say that all that mattered was who won, but even that didn't matter.

The two fighters had both lost too much and come too far to care anymore about petty titles such as who the winner was because, in the end, both fighters knew that they were going to die here.

Clang!

The blades met again before both fighters jumped back to assess each other. On the right, a man stood in bulky black armor. To a bystander, he would have looked like a giant robot, but to his opponent, the armor only appeared to be a shield to postpone the inevitable.

On the left in contrast stood a young woman, no older than sixteen years of age, dressed in a black short-sleeved mini qipao dress and black and gold high heels. Her skin was deathly pale and the rings of death were under her eyes. Her once silky raven hair was greasy and disheveled, a curtsy of the battle she'd been fighting.

Another unfortunate curtsy of the battle was the woman's wounds. In contrast to her beautiful pale skin bright red blood gushed out of her like a waterfall; her only compensation was that she wasn't the only one that was deathly injured.

Taking advantage of the break, she licked some of the blood off her lips and pushed back a little of her hair, taking note that one of her diamond earrings her grandfather had given her was missing. She felt a little sad that she had lost it before, reminding herself that her grandpa would understand.

Sighing, she looked up at the moon, "Daddy, Mom, June, Damien, Lian, Tula, I'll be joining you soon, so just wait for me," she thought, before glancing around her. She was well aware of where she was. She was in the place where her team had begun their journey to become the next set of heroes; a small smile graced her lips. That's why it was only fitting that she should end hers here.

A contemplative expression adorned her face, which surprised her opponent and made him wonder what she was thinking about. If the man was a mind reader he would have seen she was contemplating her regrets and mistakes.

The teen had many regrets; her biggest one not being able to save her teammates from their destruction, her second biggest was being unable to save her father from his death; however, she was proud to say she had kept her promise to him and protected her brother tell the very end. John was with Lucy, Iris, and Crow making their escape from this hell hole.

A smile graced her lips. At least she could die knowing they were safe.

"Nightstar,"

At the sound of her name being said, the young teen known as Nightstar looked back at her opponent. Quirking a raven eyebrow at him, she said, "What is it, Hartfield?" she asked.

The now identified Darien Hartfield looked at the girl in front of him with respect and slight sadness. "Let's end this battle shall we?" he said, releasing his armor except for a machete.

Nightstar spat out blood from her mouth before wiping it away on her arm, "Humph, now he wants to fight fair," she thought, lifting her Katana, a gift from her fallen comrade and boyfriend. "Yes, let's end this," she said. and then she charged.

Crow was running as fast as he could in his cheetah form when a chill ran through him stopping him in his tracks. Transforming himself back into his human form, he began to shake as the reality of what just happened hit him like a bomb. Nightstar was dead.

Tears sprang in his eyes as he began racing towards the direction he last felt his companion's energy. Maybe he still held hope that he would get there and find Nightstar standing over Hartfield's body, a look of triumph on her face, or maybe it was the feeling of not wanting to let John and Lucy down.

John's tear-filled plea to him to save his sister replayed in his mind:

The four companions were running as fast as their legs could carry them; in Irey's case that was as fast as the speed of light, however, due to the fact she was carrying Lucy, AKA Little Mrs. Martian, she wasn't going as fast. Crow for his part was carrying Robin AKA John Grayson in his arms.

Robin was hitting him trying to make him put him down, "Let me go! Let me go, Crow, I have to save Nightstar," he wailed.

Irey wasn't having it any easier than Crow as Lucy to beg for her to go back a save Nightstar. It was both heartwarming and heartbreaking that these two children were so attached to a dead girl walking, not that the Titans could blame them, no one could resist Mar'i's charm.

The two elder Titans ignored the children's pleas until they were in a safe enough area so they could talk. Crow finally released the boy, but he immediately turned to run back to where they had left his sister; however before he could run a step Crow grabbed him by the shoulder. "Stop!" he said, looking at the boy sternly.

Robin turned then and looked up at Crow. It was then that the older Titan saw the tears seep through his mask, "Please, please, Crow, Iris, save my sister! She's, she's all I've got left," he sobbed.

Iris looked at the boy dispassionately, "You have your mother and Batman," she said.

The boy shook his head, "No I don't, not anymore, Hartfield killed her right before he went after Mar'i," he said.

Shit! Barbara Gordon, Mar'i's adoptive mother was dead.

Crow glanced at Irey. Green met Grey as the two had a silent conversation before Irey turned away. The male found the girl to be strongly disconnected from this whole situation, which was surprising since he thought out of anyone it would be Iris who would jump in to save Mar'i.

It was almost like she had already mourned her friend and had excepted what was going to happen. Crow looked at her then as if saying, "You knew her plan this whole time?!"

Iris returned the look as if saying, "Of course I did, I'm her best friend."

Reaching the area, he stopped again when he heard a wail of agony ring through the forest. Out of instinct, his body tensed, what the hell was Robert Dunne doing here? Running into the clearing the teen found a sight of absolute chaos.

The snow-covered grown was soaked in blood and laying in the clearing were three bodies, two of them were lying dead still, the third who Crow immediately recognized as Dunne, hovered over the body of Nightstar. The man was shaking the dead girl violently. "Nightstar baby, wake up," he said.

A wave of disgust ran through Crow. How dare this man who caused Mar'i so much pain and made her run as fast as she could to the grave claim to love her? Who the hell did he think he was to say those things to her after he murdered the man that had loved Mar'i with all his heart, the man that had helped bring her into this world, Nightwing her father.

Crow took a step forward, but Dunne sensing the threat grabbed Mar'i's body and held up an armored hand. "Stand back! She's mine!" he yelled, and it took all of Crow's patience not to destroy the man right there.

Taking a breath, he reminded himself that he needed to retrieve the last of Mar'i's memories in order to start Plan B. To do that though he had to somehow get past Dunne first. It looked like he was going to have to compromise with the pedophile. "Easy Dunne, I just need something off of Mar'i first," he said.

Dunne looked at the teen suspiciously but allowed him to come closer. Crow took a steady breath and then mumbled his memory, retrieving spell, Zatara had taught him. A moment later he had what he needed; he contemplated taking Mar'i's body but then decided he'd let Batman have the privilege of tearing the man to pieces, then he disappeared into the night.

Author's note: So here's chapter one of A Mistake in Time the rewrite.

A Few things I'd like to mention, I'm giving Mar'i Grayson a makeover, her character hasn't ever been updated so I'm doing it.

Two: Starfire is her birth mother but was killed when she was three along with her twin sister June. Barbra Gordon is her stepmother and John is her half-brother.
