Meeting Your Parents, Again part one.
Location: Bludhaven.
John followed his father's counterpart into the boom tube, where he assumed they would transfer to Bludhaven; his sister had told him they used to live there before their father's death. It was one of the few things she had revealed about him when he'd asked.
It was strange seeing the man he'd only seen in pictures walking in front of him; he'd never known his father personally, as he'd just been a few months old when he'd died. What he knew about the man had come from second-hand sources, mainly his mother, as his sister couldn't really talk about him without getting emotional.
He had always envied the fact that his sister had gotten to know him; however, he never resented her for not being able to share her memories about him. His mother had explained to him a few months before her death why his sister couldn't talk about him.
The secret she'd shared had horrified him, and his heart had broken for her. He couldn't understand how anyone could do something so heinous to another living being, let alone his sister.
He was snapped from his thoughts by his father turning and looking at him. Nightwing was scratching the back of his neck nervously while looking at him. The older man was trying to figure out how to explain this to Barbara and the rest of the Bat-family.
John watched him curiously, wondering how he was going to handle this situation; although, secretly, he wished he had a camera to snap a picture of his mother's reaction to the news when his father broke it to her.
The two walked to a fancy-looking car, which John assumed belonged to his father. The older man unlocked it and opened the driver's side while he got in the passenger side. For a good long minute, the duo sat in silence, as Nightwing tried to process the news until finally, he whipped out his cell phone.
The young boy watched as his father hit a number on his phone and placed it up to his ear. Whoever his father had called answered on the first ring. "Hey Babs, it's me, yeah Garfield and the others found the source of that energy impulse," he said.
There was a moment of silence as his mother asked his father a question; his father sighed and rubbed the back of his neck again. "It's complicated, I.." he paused, taking a breath. "It was dimension hoppers, Babs. They were trying to time-travel for whatever reason and ended up here instead," he said.
There was another pause as his mother asked another question. His father sucked in a breath. "No they're not a threat, M'gann confirmed that. Um, Barbara, I need you to listen to me a moment because what I'm about to say is about to blow your mind. I know because it's blown mine," he said.
Nightwing takes a deep breath, "Barbara, one of the time travelers was Garfield's son from another dimension, and another was a martian," he starts before taking another deep breath to calm himself down.
John watches as his father braces himself for his mother's reaction to the next bit of news, "Barbara, the third dimension hopper, he's, well theirs no easy way to say this but he's our son," he says, finally getting it out.
There's silence on the other end of the phone and then he swears he hears his mother's counterpart say something like, what? on the other end of the phone.
Nightwing sighs, "Yeah, I know, this is hard for me to believe too," he says.
There's a moment's pause and then his father is moving the cell away from his ear. "Nightwing quickly puts it back, "Calm down Babs," he says and then another pause as his mother rants until finally, she must stop because Nightwing sighs, "I know love, anyway I'm bringing him to the apartment to stay with us," he says.
It gets quiet again and his mother must be asking something because his father's face turns somber, "Yeah, I'll tell him," he says.
John can only guess that Bruce is who his father is referring to; "well that is going to be an awkward conversation," is all he can think.
Location: Gotham
Bruce Wayne was having a normal day, and by normal that means lots of meetings and a ridiculous amount of paperwork. He was just about to finish out his day when his cell rang. Looking at it he wasn't surprised to see it was Dick calling him.
The younger man was probably updating him about that energy impulse that had been detected earlier that day. "Dick, what's going on?" he asked.
On the other end of the phone, Dick let out a nervous sigh. "The Outsider's found the source of the energy impulse," he said.
Bruce hummed, "And what was it?" he asked.
Dick grew quiet, which made him pause in what he was doing. "Dick?" he asked, wondering why the younger man had gone so silent.
Dick lets out a shaky sigh. "It's difficult to say, but the reason behind the impulse was due to dimension hoppers that were trying to time-travel," he says.
Bruce's browl quirks and his lips frown, "Has M'gann seen them?" he asks.
Dick lets out a nervous laugh. "Yeah, she confirmed that they're not a threat and not just that, she also discovered something else," he says.
Bruce leans back in his desk chair, "and that would be?" he says.
Dick grunts, "That one of the dimension hoppers is Garfields, son," he says.
Bruce blinks, "As in Garfield Logan, That Garfield?" he says incredulously.
Dick huffs, "Yeah, that one, and that's not all," he says.
Bruce knows something is up because Dick is never this nervous when he calls, "Not all? How many dimension hoppers are there?" he asks.
Dick sighs, "Three including Crow," he says.
Bruce cuts in, "Crow?" he says.
Dicks huffs, "That's Garfield's son's name," he says.
Bruce nods, "Okay, and who else," he says.
Dick pauses a moment before continuing, "one of the others is a martian that goes by the name of Lucy," he says.
Bruce is intrigued, "Just like M'gann," he says.
Dick laughs a little, "Yeah, but younger," he says, and Bruce can tell theirs something else, something that Dick doesn't know how to say.
So Bruce pushes him, "and the third?" he asks.
Dick is quite a moment too quiet and Bruce feels strangely uneasy by his son's silence until finally, Dick speaks. "The third one is my son," he says.
Bruce blinks then blinks again; he sits up in his chair as Dick's words register in his head, "He's your what!" he shouts.
Dick sighs. "You heard me the first time. According to M'gann, he's my son, mine and Barbara's," he says.
Bruce's head is swimming with this information and all he can manage to say is, "Bring him to the cave, now!"
