An Awkward Conversation between a Teenage Son and his Teenaged Father.
As Crow sat on the couch waiting for someone to show him to his sleeping quarters, he was sure this had to be the most awkward situation he'd ever been in. There was no other way of describing it. He was one hundred percent sure he was the only one to meet another version of their deceased father, who was still a teenager at that, who knew his identity.
Crow was sure his teammates were getting a merry laugh up in heaven at his predicament. The thought annoyed him, and he promised once he got back to his dimension and fixed things, he would give Irey a piece of his mind.
On the other side of the room, Garfield Logan was feeling the same way as his son. He did not know how to deal with this situation. There weren't exactly any books telling one how to deal with meeting your dimension-hopping teenage son. How do you even start a conversation with someone like that? His other big issue was how to tell Perdita. He was worried that if she learned about this, it might strain their relationship. Especially once she learned Crow was not theirs; however, she might overlook this because he was from another dimension.
Garfield was positive about one thing. He could not lie to her about this, as lying would definitely ruin their relationship. He made a mental note to call her later and discuss things. The real priority was figuring out how to talk with his son.
As for the rest of the Outsiders, they were quietly standing on the top landing, watching this awkward interaction. Cassie, who was standing next to Jaime, leaned over and whispered, "Should we help?"
Jaime looked at her, "I would say yes, but honestly, I have no clue how." he said.
Virgil, who was standing on Cassie's other side, looked at the two. "Man, this has got to be the most awkward situation I've ever witnessed," he said, shaking his head.
Bart, who was standing next to Virgil, nodded in agreement. "Totally, I'm definitely not feeling the mode," he said.
Crow could feel the Outsider's nervousness, and he wondered what he could do to break the ice. Once upon a time, he would have known exactly how to break the tension, but time had changed him, and he no longer knew how to relate to people outside of his team.
He tried to remember what he used to do when he found himself in a tight situation; had he smiled, or changed the subject altogether? Those memories felt like a lifetime ago. He remembered how whenever Mar'i or Tula had been sad, he would transform into a sequence of animals until they would smile or laugh.
It felt rather childish now, and he doubted appearing childish would help endear the Outsiders to him. Plus, he didn't want them thinking he was weak. He was just about to give up. When it occurred to him, he could ask about the Outsiders, and what they were about.
Tentatively, he looked at his father and gave a small smile. "So who's in charge of the Outsiders?" he asked.
Garfield, who had been deep in thought about how to approach his son, was shocked by the teen talking to him. He blinked in surprise. "I'm sorry, what did you say?"
Crow sighed, "I asked who's in charge of the Outsiders?" he said.
Garfield puffed his chest out and pointed at himself. "You're looking at him," he said.
The revelation surprised him, as according to his mother, his father had never been much of a leader; although she said he could be one if needed.
Garfield, taking the teen's silence as his turn to ask a question, enquired about his son's team. "So, are you on a team, or do you freelance?" he asked.
Crow debated a moment over his father's question, decided how much he should reveal right now. He didn't want to tell everything right now, but he decided revealing a little about his team wouldn't hurt. "I'm a part of a group of heroes. We call ourselves the Teen Titans," he said.
The revelation peeked at Garfield and the other heroes' interest, and they wanted to learn more about Crow's team, but they knew now was not the time to push. So for now Garfield said, "That's a cool name," he said.
Crow slightly smiled, "Thank you, I can't take credit for it though," he said.
The others wondered what he meant by that, but he said nothing more, so they dropped the subject. Garfield glanced at the clock and decided he'd better show his son to his room, but then a thought hit him, "Hey Crow, did you bring any essential items with you, like a change of clothes or anything?" he asked.
The question then reminded Crow that he had brought no change of clothes. He mentally faced palmed himself for his stupidity. Sheepishly, he glanced at his father, who took the cue. Garfield rubbed the back of his head. "No problem, the mall's still open so I can take you shopping," he said.
At the word shopping, Cassie suddenly jumped down from the landing and went up to Garfield. "If you guys are going shopping, count me in," she said.
This, of course, leads Garfield to get the great idea of making this a team bonding exercise. "How about we all go?" he said. The rest of the team agreed, and Crow, not being able to refuse, just nodded. Although, he was excited to see how much different this world was from his own.
