Chapter 3- The Surprising Beacon
"EW! EW! EW!" Ruby screamed as she sped out of the ship as soon as it's shuttle doors opened for the students to depart. Yang was lucky enough to have the reaction speed to dodge the projectile vomit that came from the redheaded girl, but her sister wasn't so fortunate. Ironically, even while having a semblance that boosts her speed by drastic amounts, Ruby just didn't expect to get thrown up on. "My shirt! My skirt! My pants!" She almost went to try and rub it off with her hands but thought against it. She didn't know what was in that disturbing shade of yellow that was the goo mixed with chunks of food on her body, and she definitely wasn't going to go and touch it with her bare hands.
"Ruby!" Yang exclaimed, doing her best to keep up with her older sister. "Don't freak out! We have changes of clothes, remember!?"
"AHH!" Ruby didn't seem to hear her and sped off in the opposite direction, leaving Yang behind in the dust. Yang slumped her shoulders and leaned forward, suddenly nervous that she was all alone in Beacon with nobody she knew. She wasn't so helpless on her own, heck, she always went into Vale by herself a whole ton of times. And it wasn't like she had a whole lot of friends in Signal, sure one here and there, but they were always just other girls and boys that went to the same training school. It was her sister that was the popular one. She was the one who was the first to build their weapon, the first to pass the practical exam with perfect scores, and not to mention drop-dead gorgeous. Especially once she grew her hair out. After that, Yang was surprised that Ruby never got a boyfriend. Then again… it was most likely Mom that made that difficult for anyone that wanted to get that close with her eldest.
Yang knew that Ruby always prioritized her over everyone anyway so there was no worry of her running off with her other friends as soon as they got to Beacon. But of course, there was just something else that made her run off. She couldn't really blame her though, she'd probably do the same if she was thrown up on by the first fellow future student of Beacon the minute they got to the school itself. But did it have to be the second she got there? She had no idea what to do!
"Maybe I should have listened to what Cinder was saying…" She muttered to herself as she started walking in a random direction. Well, not really random, it was just where everyone else was walking.
She thought about just going up to someone and trying to befriend someone else right away, but as Yang looked around, almost everyone was walking around in pairs or groups. Everyone else had someone with them, and Yang didn't feel comfortable enough to go intrude on that. Desperately, she looked around with her eyes to try and find someone that was on their own. Some blonde guy was alone for a bit, and Yang thought about going up to him, but he was suddenly swarmed by a bunch of other girls asking him for selfies and asking him a bunch of random questions, so that was immediately a no go.
"Ugh," Yang said, kicking a loose piece of tile as she walked past a fountain she was sure her sister took a dip in earlier from the drying splash marks all over once side of it. "This sucks, this is so not how I thought my first day at Beacon was going to go."
Yang almost gave up on trying to find someone before she came across another girl that seemed to deliberately stand off on her own. She looked regal, almost. Like she was of noble birth, but her most defining feature was the pair of cat ears on the top of her head. A faunus! She's never really met a faunus before, at least never one that she was able to become friends with. They were considered the next stage of evolution for humans because of their natural abilities that don't come with their aura or semblances. Some can see in the dark, fly, breathe underwater, and are just naturally stronger or more flexible.
And Yang wanted to befriend that right away. With a new pep in her step, she skipped up to the girl and reached to tap her shoulder.
"Hey! How are you- WOAH!" Yang cried out as she tripped over a bag of luggage she could have sworn wasn't there before. She wanted to get the attention of the faunus, and, well, after the luggage burst open and exploded clothes and little vials of dust everywhere she definitely got her attention.
"What do you think you're doing, human!?" The cat faunus asked as she pushed Yang away after she fell into her. "Have you any idea how expensive these things are? My shoes are probably more expensive than your entire outfit! Well? What do you have to say for yourself?"
"Err…" Yang held her hands up and stared owlishly up at the admittedly intimidating girl. "Sorry? I didn't mean to trip-"
"Watch where you are going next time, then. Ugh," Dusting herself off, the faunus glared down at her. "Do you know who I am? You're lucky that I am merciful or else you'd be in far more trouble than you are now."
"Uh… why would I be in trouble?" Yang asked, now confused.
"Of course you wouldn't know why," the faunus huffed. "For damaging property of the White Fang Corporation and insulting the heiress of said company, that's why!"
It was Yang's turn to huff as she rolled her eyes. "So that's who you are then, huh?" In truth, Yang had no idea who this girl was, but she heard of the WFC before because who hasn't? They were the primary and most reliable dust supplier on Remnant and was tightly tied to Mantle as a result of that. They were run by a faunus family that went way back to the end Great War about a hundred years or so ago. "Listen, princess," She felt good seeing how the faunus' yellow eyes narrowed at her because of the tone she took.
"It was an accident. There's no need to get so bitchy because I accidentally tripped over your bag of luggage that was just left in the middle of the courtyard. And by the way, I came over her to try and make friends with you since you were standing here on your own staring at your scroll like you lost all hope in the world but after this first impression, I know that was a big mistake."
The faunus hissed at her. "How dare you!? I'll have you know that I am-"
"Blake Belladonna?" A different girl asked. Yang was the first to turn and look at her. She had white hair, pale skin, and ice-blue eyes and wearing a white dress that looked worn and torn in places. She had her arms crossed and she was staring directly at the faunus that was apparently named Blake, who scoffed as she crossed her own arms.
"Finally, someone who seems to have a head-on her shoulders." Blake said as she went down to one knee and started collecting all of the stuff that burst out of her luggage case. "You can help me collect all of this-"
"Help you?" The white-haired girl scoffed. "Why would I want to help the heiress of a company that is renowned for their downright criminal neglect of their workers and those who don't live in the kingdoms?" Victorious immediately when Blake widened her eyes and stammered with a red flush of blood in her face, the other girl turned her chin and smirked, walking away with her quick victory in mind. "Excuse me, but the last thing I'd do is try and be friendly with you of all people."
"You-" Blake hissed again when the girl walked away, speaking up now would only make her look more the fool. She looked down and ignored her as she went to collect her things while Yang stood there, mildly feeling bad for her.
She really thought about leaving the girl there to collect her stuff on her own but after that display of humiliation Yang just couldn't bring herself to do it.
"Here," Yang said as she bent down as well, picking up the pair of shoes that were laced together and handed it toward the yellow-eyed faunus. "Let me help."
Blake didn't bother to tell her otherwise and silently accepted the help. With the two of them working together, they got it done in less than a minute. When Blake stood Yang followed suit, thinking of perhaps giving the whole befriending thing another try. She didn't get that chance since Blake didn't even spare a second look her way and stormed off, luggage in hand, and speaking into the scroll that she apparently never hung up on.
"Nothing's wrong, Adam." Yang overheard as the girl stormed away. "I'm fine, no need to worry, I'm going to…" Her voice faded as she walked further away, and Yang crossed her arms indignantly.
"You could have at least said thank you," she said quietly to herself.
"Er," She felt someone tap her shoulder, Yang perked up and looked over it, seeing the same redheaded girl from before looking down at her with an apologetic look in her green eyes. "H-Hi…"
"Oh, you're the one who threw up on my sister," Yang said, chuckling.
The girl didn't seem to catch her friendly tone and shriveled in on herself, blushing and embarrassed.
"I-I just wanted to a-apologize for that. I-I got r-really-"
"Hey," Yang smiled as she patted the girl on her shoulder. She was tall so she had to reach up, but that didn't seem to be an issue to either of them. "Don't worry about it, I dodged it and my sister is not really one to hold grudges because of silly accidents like that."
"Oh," the girl looked relieved. "That's fantastic. Thank you for forgiving me."
Polite, way too polite. Yang could tell that the girl was really shy and most definitely introverted. But Yang liked to refer to herself as an extrovert. So that meant that she had to adopt this much taller girl.
Upon further inspection, Yang eyed her up and down. The girl was wearing what seemed to be bronze armour, but it didn't look like it really fit her well. Her blood-red hair was tied up in a long braid that fell behind her back and she had some kind of metal headwear that kept her bangs out of her eyes, and that was also made of metal. Long stockings on her arms and legs, a leather skirt, a similar corset to what her sister wore.
"Hm, yes, I could work with this," Yang said as she placed a hand on her chin, thinking.
"W-what?"
"My name is Yang," Yang introduced herself, extending out a hand and smiling brightly at the taller girl. "Yang Xiao Long, wanna be friends?"
The girl looked shocked at the sudden offer, but after a moment she smiled and nodded her head. "Yes, I think I'd like that." She replied, shaking her hand. "My name is Pyrrha. Pyrrha Nikos. It rolls off the tongue, I was told that the boys like it."
Yang scoffed. "Yeah? Is that so?" She asked as she gestured for the girl to follow her. "And where is this Pyrrha Nikos from? You don't look like you're from around here."
"That's because I'm not," Pyrrha said. "I am from an outskirt village where a lot of retired huntsman and huntresses live about fifty miles away from the walls of Vale called Grid. What about yourself?"
"You're from the outskirts? That's cool, I live on Patch. It's an island off the coast of Vale and I went to a training school there called Signal." Yang explained. "What school did you go to?"
"School? Oh right, yes…" Pyrrha laughed nervously. "I er… I didn't really go to a training school."
"You didn't?" Yang asked, tilting her head in confusion. "Did your family train you?"
Pyrrha winced. "N-No…"
Yang raised an eyebrow. "Did… one of those retired huntsmen train you?"
Pyrrha winced again and looked away. "No… I… I'm self-taught."
"Self-taught, eh?" Pyrrha yelped when she felt Yang throw a playful punch into her shoulder. "I guess that means you trained yourself pretty well since you got into Beacon huh? That's awesome!"
Pyrrha laughed along with Yang but didn't seem as enthusiastic about it as the blonde was. "Yes, I suppose it is. Hm, speaking of Beacon, wasn't there somewhere that we were all supposed to go meet up at for some kind of assembly like Miss Fall said?"
"Oh, I dunno," Yang said as she looked around, seeing a strange lack of other students around. "I was walking around, don't you know where to go?"
"I was following you." Pyrrha pointed out.
"Oh…" Yang sighed to herself. "Poop."
It was Pyrrha's turn to pat her on the shoulder comfortingly.
"Poop indeed."
"Are you girls lost?" The deep voice of a man called out from behind them. Yang and Pyrrha assumed correctly that it was a professor when they turned around to confirm his suspicions, but they were left shocked and wide-eyed when they had to crane their necks almost all the way back to look the man in the eyes.
He was just so huge. His shoulders were so broad, his biceps were bigger than his head, and his forearms weren't that far off either and Yang felt like he could wrap his fingers all the way around her skull if he wanted to judging by how massive his hands were. He was the biggest man that she has ever seen, and the very thought of that sentence made her wince. He was scary looking as well, with two deep scars on his face, one across his eye and nose, rendering his left eye blind, and one that chipped into his lip a little. The only calming thing about him was his attire, in which he wore a dark black-green coat over a straw-colored dress shirt with matching pants and shoes to go with the coat. His brown eyes stared down at them and he tilted his head, expecting them to answer.
"Y-yes," Yang was thankful that Pyrrha seemed to recover faster than she could.
"Hm, it happens a lot around her." The man said as he turned his side to them and gestured for them to follow him. "I keep telling Cinder that she should personally lead the newcomers to the assembly hall herself but of course she never does." He chuckled warmly, showing that he held no real disdain for her. "Come, I'll take you there myself. I don't have another class to teach for another hour anyway."
"You're a professor?" Yang asked as she followed him without really giving it a second thought, as did Pyrrha.
"I am," The man nodded. "My name is Hazel Rainart, though I don't mind if you refer to me by name, in class I'd prefer that you call me Professor Rainart."
"Alright Hazel," After getting over the initial shock, Yang quickly warmed up to the huge man. She could already tell that under all that gruff and muscle was a big heart. "Lead the way then, what class do you teach?"
"You'll find that out when you see me," Hazel replied. "I can't say now, its against tradition."
"Ah, I see." Once she figured that Hazel had no intention of continuing the conversation, Yang turned back to Pyrrha. "Y'know, he scared me at first but he's not so bad. What do you think?"
"H-his biceps are wider than my entire body," Pyrrha remarked.
"That's a full-fledged huntsman for ya," Yang laughed. "Only the best of the best would be hired as a professor at Beacon, and this is the best huntsman academy in all four of the kingdoms. So I guess we should have expected this."
"Y-Yes, you're right."
"Right over there," Hazel stopped and pointed to a large building with a dome at the top as a roof. "That is where the assembly hall is located. On your way no students, I hope to see you in my class in the coming days."
Yang looked at him strangely. "But we're already in Beacon, shouldn't we already be in your classes soon?"
"We'll see," Hazel said with a big shrug, already walking away from them.
"Ominous," Pyrrha said with a nod.
"Yeah, tell me about it," Yang remarked. "Well, now that we're here I am going to go find my sister, you can follow me if you want."
"N-no, that's quite alright," Pyrrha said with a nervous laugh. "Go see your sister, I won't be helpless on my own."
Yang nodded and bumped her fist against Pyrrha's before running off into the crowd.
"Yeah… Not helpless at all… heh heh." Pyrrha muttered as she followed her a minute later. "I'll be fine, surely. Oh darn, I should have asked for her scroll number!"
"Yang!" Ruby exclaimed the moment she locked eyes with her sister. "Oh gosh, I'm so sorry about earlier! I just ran off, I found a fountain, jumped into it, and then I tried to find you but I couldn't!"
"It's okay, sis," Yang said, laughing as she pats her damp sister on the back. "I made a friend while you were gone. Remember the girl that threw up on you?"
"Her!?" Ruby asked, not out of anger or shock, but surprise.
"Yup!" Yang smiled up at her. "Her name's Pyrrha and she's actually really cool. A bit on the shy side, but she wanted to apologize to you about what happened. She seemed like she felt really guilty about it."
"Hm, I see," Ruby scratched her chin in thought. "Well, next time you see her you can tell her that she is forgiven. I don't see why I'd hold it against her, its not as she did it on purpose."
"That's exactly what I told her!" Yang and Ruby shared a laugh at that. "But ugh, I met this other girl who was a faunus and a complete- okay, not complete bitch, but she was frustrating to deal with. I tripped over her bag and-"
"Uh, Yang?"
"Hold on, I'm not finished. So anyway, I tripped over her bag and bumped into her and she just kept going on and on about how bad I messed up and how I should apologize and stuff. But then this other girl came around and told her off for me and- what are you staring at?" Yang asked when she noticed that her sister wasn't looking at her but over her head instead.
"You said this girl was a faunus right?" Ruby asked.
"Yeah…?"
"Well, a faunus girl is standing right behind you, and," Ruby bent down and whispered in her ear. "She's glaring into your back."
"Oh…" Yang hung her head and slowly turned, she managed to build up enough confidence to look the girl that she was just talking about behind her back in the eye and laughed apologetically. "Hey, Blake… What's up?"
"I was looking for you. I was going to apologize to you because of before," Blake said, arms crossed and eyes glaring blankly at her. "And I was going to thank you for helping me at the end even after my temper flared and I snapped at you."
"Oh…" Yang felt very guilty all of a sudden. "I see… I'm sorry-"
"Save it," The faunus held up a hand. "I don't know why I even bothered. Just stay away from me and I'll stay away from you, got it?"
Yang nodded her head without a word to say.
Blake shook her head and left without another word. When she was gone, Ruby rubbed her sisters back comfortingly. She was ready to defend her sister just in case another argument was going to spark, but honestly, Yang was the one in the wrong there, and they both knew that.
"I messed up…" Yang said sadly.
"It's okay, people make mistakes," Ruby said with a sad smile of her own. "Just don't think much on it for now. We're going to be here for the next four years, surely in that time you'll get a chance to say sorry to her about what happened."
"Yeah, you're right," a little more cheery, Yang looked up at her sister. "I'll just focus on Beacon, for now, if I see her again I'll try to say sorry but for now I should just leave her alone."
"I think that's the only thing you can do right now," Ruby draped an arm over her shoulders and pulled her into a one-armed hug. "And look! Cinder Fall is taking the stage!"
Snapping out of it, Yang's purple eyes looked up to the stage and saw the huntress she met before indeed standing in front of a podium with a mic stand pointed toward her mouth. She raised one hand and despite none of the students ever meeting her before, her reputation as one of the greatest huntresses Vale had to offer was enough to demand respect from everyone in that room. Yang included. Despite before, she was still a true huntress and the deputy to the headmistress herself.
"Thank you," Cinder's voice boomed throughout the entire hall through many loudspeakers. "As many of you know, I am Cinder Fall. I am a professor here at Beacon as well as the deputy to the headmistress. I shall keep this brief since I am aware that you are all excited to begin your term here at this prestigious school. Not all of you will be accepted into Beacon."
The few people that were talking despite her presence stopped right there. Yang felt that she could hear a pin drop in that room all the way from the other side.
"Do not believe that just because your applications got you here means that you will be accepted as a student. Better boys and girls have tried and failed, so you will rise above them or you will fail and be forced to try again next year. There will be no second chances for the rest of this one."
"Wow," Ruby whispered to Yang. "She really is a shoelace."
Yang didn't dare reply lest Cinder somehow heard her.
"Now that I have your undivided attention," Cinder smirked as she said that. "Allow me to introduce the headmistress of Beacon Academy. Salem."
Salem stepped out from behind the curtains and walked toward the podium as Cinder stepped down and bowed her head toward her. Salem nodded her head at her, and Cinder backed up, intertwining her fingers together behind her back, waiting for Salem to make her own speech.
"I shall also make this brief," Salem said with a loud yawn. Yang could see even from in the middle of the crowd how those dark bags around her eyes were still there. "You have traveled here today to become powerful enough to protect those who need protecting. For some, it is simply just for the glory. Allow me to crush that latter notion immediately. If you are here for the sake of it because you feel pressured to be here, or because you just want to be 'cool'. Then leave now."
No one left, as expected.
Salem scoffed. "You will leave soon enough anyway. This is a lifelong commitment. Once you graduate and earn your huntsman license, you will dedicate your life to the job. We are in an unending war against the forces of Darkness, and those with weak will are not welcome here. As I look amongst you all, I see potential, wasted potential, a waste of personality. Beacon and its professors will change that, give you direction, a true purpose to live by."
Another yawn. Yang couldn't believe it. The headmistress was giving such an intimidating speech, and she was yawning as if she didn't have a care in the world.
"Tomorrow will be your first trial. Initiation. You will all spend the night in the ballroom. This trial will show you that knowledge and power isn't everything you need to be strong." For the first time, she seemed enthusiastic about her own speech. But that enthusiasm died quickly. "For your own sake I hope that you are ready to face this trial head-on, and those who pass will be welcomed as an official student of Beacon, and those that fail… well, my deputy saw to explaining that already." She was the only one that felt amused at that. "It is up to you to surpass yourself and take that first step."
"That is all." Salem stepped off of the podium, walking back to behind the curtains as Cinder took the podium once again.
"You may make your way to the ballroom and spend the rest of the day and night there. In the morning, we shall take you to where we intend to initiate you. Be ready, or fail."
"You are dismissed."
"Wow," Ruby shuddered as she fell into the sleeping bag that was provided for all the students in the ballroom. "I can't stop thinking about their speeches, it made me feel so nervous all of a sudden."
"You'll be fine sis," Yang assured her. "You were the number one student at Beacon with all the best grades and the strongest technique. If anyone can pass whatever this initiation is, it would be you."
"Awe, you really think so?" Ruby smiled prettily at her in her reply. "Thanks, sis, and for what it's worth, you were at the top of your grade as well you know, I think that if anyone would have surpassed me and broken my records at Signal, it would have been you in that alternate universe."
"Haha, you really think so?" Yang asked, laughing.
"Of course!" Ruby exclaimed. "You're awesome sis! And the latest edition of Ember Celica was a roaring success back when you fought that Neo chick, with those, I just know you can bring back the fighting style Dad left to you."
"Awe, I'll do my best sis," Yang said, suddenly reinvigorated. "Still though, this initiation, what do you think we're going to be up against? Grimm?"
"I don't see what else they could test us with," Ruby said with a shrug. "Maybe they'd pit us against each other, but why would they do that if they made it sound like it was some big grand idea that they have for us? That just seems too simple."
"So does just throwing us against Grimm," Yang pointed out.
"True, true. But still, there has to be an extra ring to it that makes it stand out."
"I wish we could have found some of the older students, they surely would have told us something, right?"
"Probably not," Ruby remarked. "The fact that we saw none of them on our way here tells me that they were instructed to stay in a class or to downright ignore us until we actually pass the initiation. We'll just have to stick with what we have for now."
"Yeah, which is basically pass or fail." Yang laughed. "And a whole lot of other philosophical stuff that makes me feel like Cinder and Salem wants a lot of us to fail."
"Well, I for one don't think that Salem wants you to fail, she did invite you into Beacon a whole two years earlier than you should have. That makes you special."
"Urgh, don't call me that," Yang hid her face into the sleeping bag. "I'm not special. Don't tell anyone I'm special."
"But you are special," Ruby said, laughing at her sister's expense. "You got let into Beacon two years early, Mom loves you, and you already made a friend and an enemy in one day! You're awesome sis, you're going to do great here at Beacon you special little dragon you."
"Urgh," Yang growled as she pushed herself up to her feet. "That's it, I'm not going to be able to fall asleep with you putting those ideas in my head. I am going to go find Pyrrha or that other girl that helped me out before."
"Oh, I'll come with you!" Ruby exclaimed, standing up and following her before Yang had a chance to say no. "Today is pajama day, I can't just say no to this!"
"You're wearing strawberry pajama pants," Yang pointed out. "And a tight black tank top that boys and girls are staring at."
"Meh," Ruby shrugged. "Let them stare, as long as they're not staring at you," She turned and gazed over the other boys and girls, warning them away from her sister. The ones that were pretended that they were doing nothing, which had Ruby scoff at them. Weak, not deserving of her sister. Just as Mom would say.
"Oh whatever," Yang huffed, flipping one of her pigtails over her shoulder. She scanned over the room for a head of red or white and found the latter sitting against the wall reading some kind of article on her scroll. "There she is!" Yang exclaimed, pulling her sister along with her as they walked through the ocean of bodies that belonged to the other would-be students.
"Hey!" Yang greeted the girl as she squatted down to meet her level. The white-haired girl looked up from her scroll and narrowed her eyes at her, recognizing her immediately.
"What do you want?" She asked in a strangely blank tone which sounded impolite.
"I just wanted to thank you for before," Yang explained. "You really saved me a chronic headache back there with that faunus."
"Hmph, don't think too hard about it," The girl said with a huff. "Those faunus always think they're above all of us humans. I was just doing what I thought was right."
"Well," The blatant racist remark aside, Yang was still willing to give this girl a shot. "Thank you still. What's your name?" She asked, sitting down in front of her. "I'm Yang, by the way, and this is my sister Ruby."
"Hello!" Ruby greeted happily, taking the spot beside the white-haired girl.
The girl looked at them both strangely. "You two don't look like sisters." She pointed out.
"That's because we're half-sisters," Yang pointed out. "Same Dad, different Mom's, it's complicated."
"It doesn't sound like any of my business," the girl shrugged, turning off her scroll for the time being. "I am Weiss, Weiss Schnee."
"Ooo, that's a nice name," Yang remarked. "Where'd you get it from?"
Ruby laughed at the joke.
Weiss just stared at her like she had two heads.
"My… parents?" She answered as if it should have been obvious.
Yang screamed internally. Okay, she wasn't used to jokes. Not yet, at least.
"Oh, well, it was a joke." Yang tried to explain. "It was a rhetorical question that was meant to be taken as a joke."
"Oh…" Weiss nodded slowly. Doing it entirely to be polite. "I see…"
Yang screamed internally. Louder this time.
"Hey, well, where are you from?" Ruby piped up. "Me and my sister are from Patch, and man, you have no clue how-"
"Some people are trying to sleep, you know!" An all too familiar voice interrupted as feet stomped up to where they were all sitting.
"Oh no…" Yang cried, curling in on herself.
"Oh," Blake, now in a dark purple nightgown stared down at the three girls. Though she mainly glossed over Yang and stared directly at Weiss. "It's you. How unsavory."
"Unsavory how?" Weiss asked, standing up and challenging the faunus head-on. "It is because I don't have extra ears or a tail? Or because I am not as lucky with my birth as you are? Do tell me, I seem to have trouble figuring out which it is."
"How dare you!?" Blake exclaimed. "I am no racist! The fact that you are human is of no concern to me! Don't put words in my mouth human, you are the one that started this debacle between us."
"You say that you have nothing against my being human, and yet you refer to me as a human nevertheless?" Weiss scoffed. "Talk about being redundant."
"What is your problem with me, exactly?" Blake questioned. "Because I haven't a clue as to why you are treating me this way. I have not done anything to deserve this disdain."
"Of course you'd say that!"
"Ooookay," Ruby scooped up her sister and made to break away from those two. "We're just going to leave now, if that's alright, yeah, sure."
"You walk around like you own the place, and you look down at us from the outskirts like we are less than people!"
"I do nothing of the sort! I'll have you know that I have plenty of human friends. Just because you started this problem with me does not mean that I hate your entire race!"
"Well, you better start acting like it then!"
"I am trying but you will not let me!"
"Then earn it and try harder!"
"Yeah, we're going to get away from that," Yang said as she hid back under her sleeping back, having been forgotten by the two girls who were now at each other's throats. "I don't want to be caught in the middle of that."
"Man, talk about hate at first sight, eh?" Ruby joked as she slid into her own sleeping bag. "I've never seen two people who meet once and immediately hate each other. This is too weird…"
"Well, I hope I won't have to deal with that anymore," Yang said, stuffing her face into the pillow. "I'm just going to think about initiation from now on."
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." Ruby agreed. "Initiation first, making friends later."
And there we have it, the first chapter with no fighting that just leads to another chapter with a lot more fighting. The development will come for a lot of these characters as you can imagine. And we have Hazel appear for the first time! And he is a professor, so that should already spark some new ideas in your heads. This is always fun to write, I like the fact that I started writing this so early on and I just kept going with it.
See you all next time!
But first, another little special from our OTHER alternate universe. I'll just confirm it now, yes, these Omakes are from Detective Grimm. Little ideas that I never got around to along with some new ones.
"WAAAH!"
"Why has she not been fed yet!?"
"I am trying to find food that she will actually eat!"
"How long of you been trying this!?"
"THREE DAYS!"
"Diam our daughter must be starving! How could you have messed up so spectacularly when I've been gone for just three days!"
"Like I was supposed to know that she wouldn't eat the human food that you left for us."
"She is a Demi-Goddes Diam! Of course, she might not need normal mortal food!"
"You don't need to remind me of that! Ugh, alright Wilna, we are going to take a little trip. Specialist, I will be back, and hopefully, our daughter should have a full belly."
"She better or I am asking Celeste to breastfeed her."
"No… No… anything but that. Okay, to the Overworld I go!"
It was said that the God of Darkness was never going to be allowed in the Overworld again ever since the last time, but since when did Diam ever learn to follow directions? The castle of the God of Light in the Golden City was ransacked for every bit of food it had, and Diam mashed it all together to form some kind of baby food using instructions he memorized from a child cooking show.
Thankfully, that seemed to stem his daughter's hunger.
For now.
"Whew," Diam sighed as he held his now sleepy baby daughter in his hands. "If I could age without willing it I'm sure I just became thirty years older."
Wilna snored adorably to sleep.
"You're lucky I love you."
And now the chapter can end.
