Chapter 4- Courtesy Call
Blake was dreaming. No, she was remembering. When she told her father Ghira that she wanted to become a huntress, he saw fit to test her grit. Her mother Kali demanded him that he needn't have to put his daughter through long outdated trials just to prove herself, but he didn't budge. He never did. Blake loved him, she did, but when it came to matters of the WFC, he cared only for business. As his sole heir, Blake had a duty, and he saw her desire to become a huntress as just another obstacle in his way.
Blake was just fourteen when it happened. After learning to control and harness her aura and semblance, she was put against one of the most dangerous mechanisms that Mantle had to offer at that time. Well, she was told that it was mechanical, but it was only so in physical form. That suit of armour was no mere pile of plate and chainmail, but it was being controlled by a special kind of Grimm that could inject itself into inanimate objects and bend it to its will.
The Mantlilian Knight was twice the size of even her father and towered over her completely. Blake stared it down and swung out her weapon, Gambol Shroud, and was determined to prove her worth to her father. She could see him watching from on top of a high balcony, leading over the railing. His massive muscles almost tore through the deep blake suit that he was wearing, his claws dug into the railing with minimal force behind them, and his shiny yellow eyes watched her expectantly. Beside him, her mother looked terrified and held a full bottle of wine which she was drinking as if it was water and she was dangerously dehydrated. Blake tore her eyes away from her birth parents and looked to the wall within the chamber she was in.
There, beside one of the pillars keeping the building standing stood her mentor, he was just a few years older than her but already a Specialist under the General and headmaster of Mantle and it's Huntsman Academy. Adam Taurus, another faunus such as herself. Her father only allowed faunus to train her, and it was said that Adam was the best of the best not only because of his extremely powerful semblance Moonslice, but his great skill with his crimson blade. She looked up to him and grew to care for him quickly just as he had her. He was there to make sure that if she was losing, she wouldn't die. His sky blue eyes looked at her and he nodded, mouthing the words "I believe in you." To her as she took in a deep breath.
She nodded back and looked back to the Grimm infested statue, getting into a low, flexible stance as her father prepared to let it loose on her. Her trial was simple, he said. All she had to do was annihilate the monster. Kill it, and Ghira Belladonna would let her go to Beacon to train to become a huntress and bring glory to their bloodline.
The Monster was released by a push of a button. Ghira unleashed it himself. The chains binding the statue came loose and with a mighty, terrifying screech of a roar, it charged at her.
Blake left a clone behind in her wake as she dodged back, watching as the confused creature slammed its heavy sword again and again into the ground where her clone stood harmlessly. Using the strong specially made ribbon in Gambol shroud, she hooked onto one of the nearby pillars and swung herself into the air. Getting too far from one of her clones caused them to disappear, and once the one she left behind did, the monster seemed to immediately know where she was without even looking around. Blake cursed mentally and flipped through the air to dodge the blade that may as well have cut her in half. She landed gracefully behind the statue and charged forward, slashing at the back of its heels in a blur of black.
Something flowed out of the heels of the creature as Blake cut through them, perhaps blood, perhaps some kind of dark energy. Blake didn't know or care. She slid through the legs of the creature and jumped and stabbed her sword into the monster's back. Holding on tightly as it writhed and struggled in pain. She came flying off when it spun wildly, and she hit one of the pillars. She was stunned, held onto the small of her back in pain. She cracked one eye open and already saw Adam placing a hand on the sheath of his sword.
"Don't!" Blake screamed, begging for Adam to stop. "I can handle this!"
Adam stopped but still looked like he was going to charge in to help her anyway. That was until her father spoke.
"Leave her, Specialist," His deep voice echoed throughout the hall. "This is what she wanted, remember? If she gets hurt that is her fault, your orders are to stay put until her aura levels fall below critical. Be a good soldier and follow them."
Adam reluctantly took his hand away from his weapon and Blake tumbled and pushed herself back up to her feet. When the monster roared and came at her again, she roared right back, no longer acting as the prissy little princess that her father raised her to be. She had her target, the statues eyes were glowing red where previously it was hollow. That was where the Grimm parasite was. That was what she needed to kill.
The statue was much faster than she dared to admit. It moved with a grace that shouldn't have belonged, and as she flexibly weaved in and out of its reach, using her clones to her advantage and quite literally fighting for her life, the Grimm was keeping up with her at every turn. This kept up until she finally started to get tired, and that was just the start of her downfall. One hit from this thing would mean a devastating blow to her aura and perhaps could do damage through it. Aura was trusted to be a shield to defend you from mortal wounds, but when your enemy was holding a sword the size of a car, there was only so much that it could protect you from.
Blake cried out in pain as blood spilled from her face, right on her eye where the creature managed to finally land a hit on her while she was just a second too late to summon another one of her clones to take her place. She was thrown back to the back of the hall and slammed against the furthest wall. She grabbed that part of her face with one hand and she winced when it came back bloody. She was afraid of trying to open that eye but was relieved when she saw that she indeed could. Though she felt the deep gash across her brow that went down into her cheek. It hurt, it hurt so much, Blake wanted to curl up and cry and beg Adam to help her. But she didn't. To give up would mean giving up on her dream, to prove her father right. She couldn't let that happen, she couldn't let all of this effort go to waste just because of one little injury.
"Blake!" Adam screamed as the monster stabbed its weapon where she was sitting. He was about to charge in and throw caution to the wind but stopped when he saw an explosion destroy the statues weapon arm and part of its legs. Through the ploom of smoke, Adam saw with his faunus eyes that Blake was very much still alive. And very, very angry.
She couldn't believe how feral she behaved as she pounced onto the head of the statue her father put up against her. She screamed and roared, hissed and scratched, and tore open the helmet that held the Grimm parasite she was looking for. The parasite screamed at her once it was revealed, but Blake roared right back as she took the cleaver part of her weapon and hacked away at its face. Again and again, even as black blood splashed onto her face and evaporated with a disgusting stench. She kept hacking away until the entire helmet itself was destroyed. When it was over, Blake nearly broke her wrists when she hit the concrete ground with her weapon with all her strength.
She only stopped when she felt a pair of strong, protective arms wrap around her. She immediately dropped her weapon and leaned into her mentor as he screamed up at her father.
"Are you happy now!?" She heard Adam scream. "Are you proud? Your daughter nearly died trying to prove herself to you!"
"Oh, I very much am proud!" Ghira exclaimed, bellowing out a burst of great laughter as he clapped his hands excitedly. "Daughter, you have indeed proven yourself to me! I must say I was worried before, but I am no longer. Do you still want to become a huntress? Go on and do it, but do not forget your duty," The giant of a man turned and walked off, still laughing happily as he stepped past his wife. "Now go and clean yourself up, this isn't the image of my heiress."
Blake traced her fingers down her face as the memories finally faded away. The thick scar that traveled down and past her eye and into her cheek. She was both proud and ashamed of it. Proud because this was a wound from the first Grimm she had ever slain, and ashamed because of what it cost her. She sighed and shook her head, cupping her hands and filling them with water as the sink flowed constantly with the substance. Her face felt cold when she rinsed it. Ridding herself of the morning features that she ever so despised because of how ugly it made her look.
She started on fixing her hair even as a girl that looked much more exhausted than she probably was took the empty sink beside her. A ginger girl, Blake looked at her for a few moments as she started to brush her teeth so slowly it was like she was a zombie trying to remember how to do basic human needs. She looked away, disinterested in the girl. Today was supposed to be their initiation, so how dare she look so bored. This was the starting point of all their careers. To take it lightly would mean to repeat the year or worse, be forced to give up on their dreams.
And to make it worse, that annoying blonde girl Yang was standing behind her now. She entered the bathroom with a skiddy look on her face. She wanted to say something to her but didn't have the confidence to start. This was funny considering that she seemed so confident in insulting her the other day, where now she couldn't even get basic feelings off her chest. Blake sighed again, didn't she already tell her to leave her alone?
"What do you want?" Blake asked her after losing her patience. Looking at her through the mirror, she watched as purple eyes widened at being addressed so suddenly. "Didn't I tell you to leave me alone?"
"Y-yeah…" Yang said, chuckling nervously. "I know, but I just wanted to apologize to you… for… y' know."
"No, I don't think I do know," Blake said, turning to face her. She hated mornings already and having this annoying girl bothering her was just going to make her lose her temper.
"Look, I know I messed up," Yang said, finally meeting her eye to eye. "I shouldn't have talked behind your back like that and I just… I feel terrible about it, okay? I don't want to have this sad feeling in my stomach every time I see you. Can't we just, y' know… start over and try again?"
"You want to make it up to me?" Blake narrowed her eyes at her as her cat ears twitched annoyingly. Yang nodded her head, almost desperate. "Then leave me alone. I have better things to do than have to deal with you every day. If you feel so bad about what you were saying about me, then give me space."
She stepped past her and walked away, but stopped after she opened the door to that lead to the intergender locker room. "And don't make this an everyday affair."
"Ah… dammit." Yang kicked at the floor as Blake made her way out. "I just wanted to apologize… why can't you be reasonable? Just let me make friends with you!"
"What did you say about her?" That other random ginger girl after she spat out a glob of toothpaste and spit. "She seemed pretty upset with you."
The ginger might have been a stranger but she seemed alright enough. Yang sighed and leaned on the sink in front of her, fixing her hair back into her trademarked pigtails.
"Ah… we just had a rough start and I was complaining to my sister about it. But then it turned out that she was behind me the entire time." Yang explained simply.
"Yeah," The ginger nodded understandably, looking at Yang with a blank look to her pale green eyes. "That'll do it. It seems to feel bad though, so I don't think you're a bad person."
"Ah, thanks random person," Yang said, laughing wholesomely.
"Nora," The ginger said, fully turning to look at her as she pulled the blanket over her shoulders tighter over her body. "That's my name, Nora, Valkyrie."
"Yang," Yang replied. "Yang Xiao Long. Thanks for talking to me, what are you-"
"NORA!" Yang yelped when the door to the bathroom slammed open all of a sudden. She damn near jumped up onto the sink as she saw some other girls sprint into the room and slap her hands on top of the ginger's shoulders. Yang stared owlishly into the black-haired girl's head but was left confused as the voice that came out of her turned out to be a lot more boyish than she ever expected.
"Nora! You wouldn't believe it but I am gonna tell you anyway!" The black-haired something exclaimed. "I had the best dream about pancakes ever!"
"You didn't dream at all, Ren," Nora said, yawning and pulling the blanket over her head. "You were awake all night keeping me awake."
"You see, that's the thing!" Ren continued. "I was awake, and yet I still dreamed! How does that happen, Nora? Come with me, I have to show you this new pancake formula I just came up with."
"We don't have time for that Ren, we have initiation in just a short hour." Nora pointed out, not letting them pull her along. "And you are in the girl's bathroom, by the way. You're lucky there isn't anyone who's attacking you for barging in here yet."
"Pfft, why would they do that?"
"Because you're a boy, Ren."
"Ah, right, that might incite some uneasiness…" Ren agreed.
"Uh…" Yang said slowly, with only one pigtail tied up, she must have looked ridiculous.
"Oh, hey there!" Ren skipped toward her and grabbed her hand. "I'm Ren, she's Nora, you know the gist. You're my new friend now."
"I am?"
"Yup!" Ren slapped a notecard into her hand. "That's my number, and Nora's number is on there as well. Feel free to give us a call whenever you want to hang out!"
Yang never felt like this before. Was this some extremely confident way of flirting or was this person that friendly? She had no idea how to place her finger on this…
"See you later, I guess," Nora said as she lazily waved at her as Ren dragged her out of the girl's bathroom. "And Ren, didn't I tell you to stop taking those notes around? People are going to think you're weird."
She didn't hear what Ren said in reply but she had a feeling it went along with the notion of she either didn't care or pretended that she didn't care. Yang blinked her eyes and slowly went to work on putting up her other pigtail.
Ruby peeked her head in a second later, confidently smiling at her and completely unknowing of what had just transpired. "Hey," She greeted, smiling brightly. She woke up earlier than she did so she was already all dressed up and ready to go. "How'd it go with Blake, all good?"
Yang sighed and turned back around, committed to continuing fixing up her hair before she went out for initiation.
"Wow, so all that happened when you just went to try and talk to Blake?" Ruby asked as Yang finished attacking Ember Celica to her other arm.
"Yeah! It was so weird but somehow it's hilarious to think about," Yang laughed as she thought about it. "I thought that boy was a girl. Heh, talk about traps huh?"
"Awe don't say that!" Despite saying that, Ruby laughed along with her sister. "Maybe he was just so pretty it made your heart skip a beat eh? Maybe that's why you added his contact information into your scroll."
"What else was I supposed to do!?" Yang exclaimed. "He just said we were friends now and gave it to me! I would have felt bad if I threw it away and saw him again later. He just looked so happy!"
"I am going to have to meet these two someday," Ruby said, chuckling. "It seems that they are the best at making first impressions."
"Yeah, you can say that again," Yang said, rolling her eyes. "C'mon, Cinder said that we have to meet over at the cliffs right? Let's go see what this initiation is all about."
"Ah!" A familiar redheaded girl yelped and caught her attention. "I know I couldn't have put my weapons in locker 423, I could have sworn I put it in locker 523! Oh no… and there's a password to? Where did I put my weapons!"
"Was that the Pyrrha girl you talked about?" Ruby asked as she watched her scramble away to the other section of the locker room.
"Yep," Yang said. "That's her. Should we go help her?"
"Ah, we shouldn't we? What kind of huntresses would we be if we didn't help each other, right?"
"Yup!" Yang shut her locker and jumped out to the lane. "Hey, Pyrrha! Let me help you out…" Her voice slowly trailed off when she saw Pyrrha running toward her, a bronze sword and shield in each hand.
"Found them!" Pyrrha exclaimed happily. "Sorry about that, It turns out I just left them on the floor and no one bothered to move them thankfully."
"Oh," Yang laughed. "I was wondering what was up with that. So these are your weapons huh?" She leaned in to expect them more closely, Pyrrha was kind enough to let her see them in their entirety. "No mechanical functions on them, eh? None that I can see, at least."
"W-we'll… there is a function to my sword," Pyrrha explained as she turned it front and back while holding it. "I know it can turn into a gun and a spear as well. I just don't really… well… how do I say this?"
"Woah, wait, this thing can turn to a spear and a gun!?" Ruby asked, dashing in and taking the sword for herself. "Wow, that's amazing! How did you make this!?"
"I-I didn't make it, my older sister did," Pyrrha explained. "I just inherited it. She never showed me how to use it though, so I don't know how to shift it the way she could."
"Fascinating!" Ruby exclaimed, having not heard a word Pyrrha just said. "I'd love to tear this apart and see what makes it work. Can I do that? I'll build you another one, I promise."
"N-No!" Pyrrha yanked back her sword and held it as if it was her firstborn child. "This is a family heirloom! I can't lose it!"
"Ah, poop." Ruby snapped her fingers and pouted. "Can't do much about that."
"What do you mean you don't want to be my partner!?" Blake suddenly screamed from down the hall. "I am the heiress of the WFC and you are an Arc! Together we would breeze through Beacon!"
"Listen, I'm sorry but I'm just not that interested," the Arc that Blake referred to said calmly. "I'd rather just let fate decide who my partner is gonna be, y' know? I don't want to have an easy time in Beacon, it's meant to be challenged and if I'm partnered with someone like you then what challenges will there be?"
"You…" Blake crossed her arms and shook her head. "Fine, have it your way then. If you want to let fate choose what happens then so be it." The faunus stormed off and left the blonde boy behind. He scratched his head nervously and shrugged his shoulders, not taking it personally. Yang recognized the boy just a bit, she saw him yesterday when she was looking for someone to hang out with to pass time but he was swarmed by girls before she could even get close. Although, now that she had the chance to get a good look at him, she couldn't see why he was all that special. Special enough for Blake herself to try and partner up with him apparently, but Yang couldn't see the appeal.
"Why was she talking to you like that?" Before she knew it, it was Pyrrha of all people who went up to talk to the boy first.
"Ah, well, my name sorta gets around." The boy said with a nervous laugh. "It isn't the first time today I had to turn down an offer like that, and it probably won't be the last either."
"Your name?" Pyrrha blinked at him, confused. "What does your name have to do with anything?"
"It's well… I'm sorta, well, popular." The other blonde explained slowly. "Even around these parts."
"Popular how?" Pyrrha asked, tilting her head.
The boy titled his head at her in turn. "Wait, you don't know who I am?"
"Should I?"
"I'm Jaune Arc!" Jaune exclaimed, amused for some reason. "You know, Champion of Ansel, Mistral's rising star, part of the most esteemed family of huntsmen in the world?"
"Er…"
"Youngest son of Nicholas Arc?" Jaune continued.
"Nope." Pyrrha shook her head.
"Oh my god," Jaune smiled. "You don't know who I am, do you?"
"Oh, wait!" Pyrrha gasped suddenly. Jaune's shoulders sagged at the reaction. "Your face is on my favorite cereal meal, you know, the ones with the dinosaur-shaped treats? I thought I recognized you from somewhere!"
Jaune threw his head back with laughter and clapped his hands happily. "Oh man, you are a treat. What's your name?"
"Pyrrha," Pyrrha answered nervously as she shook Jaune's hand. "Pyrrha Nikos."
Yang couldn't help but notice some of the other girls glare jealously into Pyrrha's back. In support of her friend, she stepped up behind her and glared right back at them, scaring away most. The rest went when Ruby came out from behind her, much taller and more menacing when glaring.
"Making friends without me already Pyrrha?" Yang laughed, patting Pyrrha on the back. "Yo," She waved two fingers at the apparent celebrity. "I just became friends with her yesterday but I still like her! Take good care of her, buster."
"Hah!" Jaune laughed again. "Well, this morning is already turning out better than I expected. Good to meet you all, and you," He winked at Pyrrha specifically. "Fate's been kind to introduce me to you, thanks for coming up to me. I was having a shitty morning before you came along,"
"O-Oh," Pyrrha flushed and looked away. "G-Glad I could help with that, I suppose."
When Jaune said his goodbyes and walked off in the opposite direction after practically giving Pyrrha the googly eyes of love, Yang and Ruby looked at each other and giggled. It was just so obvious. Boys were so easy, she swore.
"Looks like you already got a boy wrapped around your finger," Yang teased, nudging Pyrrha in the side. "You work fast."
"What? Don't be ridiculous," Pyrrha laughed and waved dismissively toward Jaune. "He was just being polite. He's a gentleman, that one. I do think I like him though, he's the second friend I made here."
"Third," Ruby corrected, smiling at her. "I met you before he did, so I call dibs."
"Fair enough," Pyrrha looked surprised, but not in an unpleasant way. Yang wanted to laugh again. The first time they met Pyrrha threw up on her, and somehow that means that they are friends.
"Would all Beacon initiates make their way to Beacon's cliffs at this time," Cinder's voice boomed through the above intercom. "Initiation begins in just five short minutes."
"Well, that's our signal," Yang said, rolling her shoulders. "Let's go knock some heads together!
Meeting on the cliffs came quickly enough. It was easy to find it since, well, there was only one Beacon cliff to look for. Yang just followed the crowd and did as instructed when she was told to stand on top of some kind of metal plate. She looked to her left and saw Ruby beside her, smiling brightly at her as she stretched one of her legs. On her right, there was Pyrrha. Who looked positively beyond nervous for whatever reason. Yang herself took a deep breath as she looked away from both of them and looked toward Salem. Ready to listen to the explanation of what their initiation was supposed to entail.
"Good to see everyone is in attendance," Salem announced to the students. "This initiation will be evaluating your skills as a warrior as well as your skills as a teammate."
"I am sure each of you has heard rumors of about teams," Cinder continued for her. "Allow me to confirm the fact that yes, each of you will be split off into teams of four. And your teammates are going to be designated today."
"These teammates will be with you for your entire term at Beacon, and if your relationship with one another flourishes, it shall last for even longer than that," Salem explained. "In addition to these teams, each of you will have a partner. This partner will be at your side at all times during your time at Beacon for the next four years. And yes, they will also be given to you today. Very shortly, in fact. So it is in your best interest to pair up with someone with whom you can work well."
That made Yang even more nervous than she dared to admit. The next four years!? Seriously!? She glanced over to Ruby and found her looking at her, they shared a nod, agreeing to try and find each other in whatever task that they find themselves in.
"You will be launched into the Emerald Forest," Cinder continued. "Once you land using your personalized landing strategy, the first person you make eye contact with will be your partner from thereon. After that, you will go in search of relics hidden throughout the forest. Find them, but beware. This is a Grimm infested forest. If you let your guard down for but a moment, you will die."
"Destroy your enemy, whatever it takes. Or else you will die." Salem said. "Now, are there any questions that any of you may want to ask? None? Good."
Pyrrha put her hand back down slowly and sighed.
Before Yang knew it the platform beneath her sprung up and launched her through the air. She screamed at first but quickly gained control of her trajectory. Flipping through the air, Yang activated Ember Celica and thrust her fist out underneath her to the ground. One-shot shot her back up in the air before she could hit the top of the trees. Another shot kept her up in the air comfortable for a few seconds despite her still soaring through the air. Yang narrowed her eyes as she looked around the sky, looking for the distinct blur of red that always told her that her sister was nearby. She found nothing, and she honestly doubted that her sister had been launched yet. She was the first and from the brief look, she got at the cliff only one other person she couldn't quite make out was launched after her. Yang grit her teeth as she turned her attention back to her landing strategy.
Ember Celica fired off three more blanks, each gradually slowing down her momentum as she went from terminal velocity to falling at about half that speed. Once she was comfortable, she activated her aura and curled up like a ball. She smashed through the top of the trees and several branches, absorbing all of the damage into her aura and semblance. She cracked her eyes open as she sensed herself getting nearer to the ground, and prepared one final punch.
This last punch caused her to flip one more time before she came to a hard landing. Her legs took the entire brunt of the force, and she felt her knees buckle as she came to a very sudden halt. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding and stood up straight, stretching her arms over her head and telling her body that they were no longer falling from a lethal height. She looked around her immediate surroundings, it was all forest, for the most part, but it seemed to be mostly grass with small shrubbery and huge trees.
She stopped admiring her surroundings the minute she remembered what she was supposed to be doing. She darted forward and sprinted in a random direction, hoping to find her sister and get her to be her partner.
"Come on, come on! Where are you!?" Yang asked in her mind as she ran. Ruby was either still in the air, or she was looking for her as well. Yang didn't mind the idea of partnering with someone else, but she's already had bad luck with Blake and she didn't know anyone else. Pyrrha popped up in her mind, but her body looked pretty soft and while she was nice and polite, Yang wasn't sure she could keep up with her. Next came that white-haired girl, Weiss if she remembered correctly. She was pretty cool with her, but she had a feeling it was because of the lack of any animalistic features that would make her a faunus. She was grateful that she helped her out, but she wasn't sure that they'd be able to get along for the long term, at least not right away. They just had different views.
Ruby, it was then. Yang broke through a bush and punched a Beowolf in the face as it pounced at her, completely ignoring it as she searched for her would be sister-partner. "Ruby! Where are you, Ruby!?"
As she broke through the next set of bushes she saw ahead of black hair. Yes, that had to be her! Yang sprinted even faster and smashed through the tree in her way, creating a lot of noise so that her sister could hear her coming. She came to a screeching stop as she met eyes not with a pair of silver, but a pair of yellow amber. Her heart dropped when she saw the set of cat ears attached to ahead of a person that already started hating her guts the moment they met.
Blake Belladonna was who her eyes locked on to.
Blake stared into her eyes, just as shocked and surprised to see her as she was to see her. They stood like that in front of each other for the next ten seconds.
Then Blake turned her chin up and started walking away from her.
"W-wait!" Yang exclaimed, running after her. "We're supposed to be partners now!"
"No." Blake simply replied, continuing to move away from her. "We never saw each other. Let's agree on that and be on our way."
"That's not how that works Blake!" Yang shouted, running up in front of her and gently placing a hand on her shoulder to stop her. "Look, whatever problem we have with each other shouldn't be a thing while we're in a Grimm infested forest. Believe me, I am beyond skeptical about this, but whether you like it or not, we're stuck with each other now."
"We don't have to be," Blake pointed out, slapping her hand away. "Do you think that they are watching our every move? We. Are. Not. Partners. Don't even let the idea stick in your thick skull. Leave me alone, and go find someone else."
"No!" Yang's eyes turned red and Blake jumped back as a wave of heat blasted past her. Yang reigned her temper back under control and shook off her semblance. Her eyes remained red as she glared at Blake. "I'm sorry, okay! I'm sorry that I talked about you like that. Why are you taking it so personally!? It's not like I did anything else to you, did I?"
Her voice cut off when Blake pointed her gun at her. "Get down!"
Yang did so on instinct, and Blake fired Gambol shroud above her. A Grimm Beowolf was about to pounce on her whined and roared in pain as it died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Yang stood back up and all of a sudden she was back to back with Blake. They were surrounded by Grimm, all of them growling and snarling at the two girls as they prepared to defend themselves.
"You want to be my partner?" Blake asked as she shifted her gun back into its bladed form. "Prove yourself to me, and I'll consider it."
"Heh," Yang's eyes turned red again as she slammed her fists together. "Now you're speaking my language, partner."
And there we go, chapter number 4 out of the way. Got a question for you guys now, should I continue writing the chapters like this? Merging multiple episodes to form a chapter while also adding my spice to it? Or should I essentially rewrite RWBY but with all the reversed roles that I have planned? Either way, I got plans and ideas for both sides, but I'd like to see what you guys think. I like the way I am writing this story right now, so I might just keep it like this for now anyway.
In the meantime, I'll always enjoy hearing your thoughts about what's happening in the story so far. Reversed Roles is always interesting to me in the right situations, and after seeing that nice art I just couldn't get the idea out of my head.
