Digimon 2.5 "Adventure 03"
Episode 55: 'The Better of Two Evils'
.:Minato, Tokyo:.
Just on the outskirts of the Minato region, AxeKnightmon was making his way down one of the streets conducting his search for the DigiDestined. He walked down the middle of the empty road. Everywhere was quiet, with only the odd car passing across a junction in the distance either ahead or behind him. Some people watched in awe from the safety of inside the buildings as he passed.
As AxeKnightmon passed by a narrow alleyway, Willis and his two Digimon appeared from within the darkness watching him with caution. The dark knight Digimon approached a car that was marginally blocking his path. Instead of stepping around the vehicle, AxeKnightmon grasped his Twin Spear and swung it at the car, clearing his way. The car was hit with such force that it struck a van that was parked on the opposite side of the road, leaving both vehicles badly damaged.
"Who's that?" Lopmon asked a little too loudly, causing AxeKnightmon to freeze and turn around to look behind him.
Willis quickly grabbed both of his partners and jumped back into the darkness of the alleyway just in time before AxeKnightmon appeared.
AxeKnightmon stopped just in front of the passage. He looked around but the street was still empty. "I could have sworn I heard something…" he muttered to himself. His attention soon fell on the alleyway; unaware Willis, Terriermon and Lopmon were hiding further down around the corner of the alley at the back of the building. He grunted and turned back in the direction he had been going. "Those DigiDestined should be around here somewhere…" he continued to mutter before he resumed his search.
Willis peered out from behind the corner and breathed a sigh of relief. "That was close… Perhaps we still better stick to the alleyways."
"Where are we going anyway?" Terriermon asked.
"Izzy has a lab not far from here." Willis replied as he got his phone out from his pocket and checked the map of the city. "Hopefully Izzy will be there and we can catch up on what's been going on here. C'mon, we're almost there." He said before they continued on down the narrow alleyways.
.:Tokyo Big Sight, Odaiba Tokyo:.
Inside the exhibition hall of the convention centre, the group of people that Joe had treated after the attack from the X Digimon were still gathered together. Having spent the night sleeping on the uncomfortable chairs some were starting to get a little more restless.
"This is stupid…" a man said rising to his feet, causing Akina Hida to look up from where she was sitting. "I'm getting tired of waiting. We've been stuck in this damn hall for hours."
"My family will be worried sick." A woman added.
Akina got to her feet. "I understand your frustration but we need to stay here. It's not safe out there. If we just wait a little lon-"
"Then why did your friends leave?" another man asked interrupting. His question caused a few of the others to look at each other and pass a few comments between themselves.
Cody's wife paused for a moment, trying to find the right words. "They uhh… They were called away on an emergency…" she said.
"Well I'm not spending another day trapped in here. If they can leave then so can we." The first man said before he grabbed his jacket and briefcase.
Akina watched as a few more got to their feet and gathered their things. "No, wait!" she pleaded. "Trust me; it's not safe out there. You might run into another one of those monsters and this time there might not be anyone there to help you."
Five people remained seated, taking Akina's advice to remain, but the rest of the group walked past her heading towards the exit. Akina turned and watched helplessly. No matter how much she pleaded she knew she couldn't stop them from leaving…
Outside, the group of people emerged from the building a few moments later. They walked out from underneath Tokyo Big Sight and out into the open, crossing the large square at the front of the centre. To their left was the entrance to the train station.
The sun was positioned behind them, so the shadow of the convention centre was cast over them. As they approached the end of the shadow about to walk into the sunlight, another shadow emerged casting further over the ground. The shadow caused the group of people to stop as it looked very distinctive. The owner of the shadow was large, with a pointed head. Two horns stuck out either side, and a set of large wings were draped either side of its body.
"W-what is that…?" one of the men gasped before the group turned to look up behind them.
Standing on top of the roof of the convention centre was a large demon like monster. He was dressed in a long red cloak, with a pointed hood covering most of his face, except for his blue eyes that were piercing down on them. The group watched on in fear as he spread his dark purple wings and in a flash he leapt off the roof, soared over them before landing on the ground on the opposite side, blocking their path to the train station.
The Digimon, Daemon, chuckled as the group looked up at him in fear. "Tell me humans…. Where can I find the DigiDestined?"
Over at the convention centre, Akina had been watching out of one of the windows…
.:Tokyo Port, Odaiba, Tokyo:.
Matt sighed as he looked out across the harbour and at the damage left behind from their battle with ShadowSeraphimon. The water from the bay gently crashed against the ice where it had been broken apart. He then glanced up to the cloud filled sky. He knew in Tai's absence he would have to step in to lead the team, and the others would be now looking to him on what their next move should be. Defeating ShadowSeraphimon had been the easy part compared to what they were going to be coming up against next. Matt knew they couldn't stay hidden forever. They needed to do their part whilst Tai was away; and that meant taking on the last four Nightmare Six.
Izzy approached him from behind, balancing his laptop on his left hand. "I'm afraid my Digimon Detection Signal programme is still down. Haruhiko and Jim are still working hard trying to fix it. If only it was working we would be able to know the exact location of each of the Nightmare Six and be able to plan a safe route to a more appropriate shelter."
"We can't keep playing hide and seek Izzy," Matt said calmly. "Sooner or later they're going to get tired of searching for us and just destroy the entire city. We need to fight them before it comes to that, and when the time comes for us to face Grandracmon at least he'll have no one to hide behind."
"But we need to be careful Matt," Izzy said. "If we show ourselves we could get ambushed and we might not be able to defeat them, especially without Omnimon."
"We're still strong enough without Omnimon. We beat ShadowSeraphimon didn't we?"
"Yes, but I have a suspicious feeling the other four won't go down so easily." Izzy said. "And especially if Grandracmon decides to join the fight. If we run into him before Tai and Dawn get to his soul in the Dark Area we won't stand a chance. The others were lucky to escape his castle before, and he's going to be pretty mad that we managed to get away. He's not going to let us escape that easily a second time. We can't face Grandracmon until Tai comes back."
Matt continued to look up at the sky. "Then we'll just have to divert the Nightmare Six far enough away so we don't attract his attention."
Izzy paused as he watched the bearer of Friendship for a moment. "…I take it you have already come up with a plan?"
Matt nodded, but before he could share his plan with the bearer of Knowledge, the door to the warehouse opened. He, along with Izzy, turned to look behind to see Cody, Joe, Mimi and their Digimon walk out.
"Sorry to interrupt, but we've just had an urgent call from my wife." Cody said as they walked up to where the two men were standing.
"Akina said there's a Digimon at the convention centre, and there are people in danger." Mimi added.
Matt clenched his fist. "I bet it's one of the Nightmare Six. Probably a dirty trick to get us to show our faces." He muttered. "Tokyo Big Sight isn't far from here… I'll head over there with Davis and Ken." He said before he turned to the bearer of Knowledge. "Izzy, you take everybody else over to your lab. It'll be a more suitable place to lay low until we're ready."
Izzy nodded in agreement. "I could really do with getting back there and helping Haruhiko and Jim try to fix the DDS anyway. Once that's back up and running we'll have the resources to plan our strategies a lot better."
"Izzy your lab is on the other side of the bay in Minato." Mimi said. "Do you really think we can all make it over there without being seen?"
Izzy thought for a moment. Mimi did have a point. His lab was quite a distance away, and with the size of their group they were bound to be seen by someone. If only there was a way to sneak by without being detected… "… Whamon…" he eventually said, earning a couple of puzzled looks. "Whamon can take us there. There is a waterway not far from my lab that leads from the bay. It's big enough for Whamon to swim through. We can travel underneath the water without being seen."
"Great idea," Matt agreed. "Gomamon, go find Whamon. He should be close by."
"On it!" Gomamon replied before he jumped down from Joe's shoulder and leapt off the edge of harbour, disappearing underneath the water.
"I'll go tell the others we're leaving." Joe said before he left his wife's side and headed back towards the warehouse.
"How is everyone?" Matt asked, turning back to Mimi and Cody.
"Okay I guess considering the current situation…" Mimi replied. "I know Kari's worried out of her mind, even though she's not letting on. I can see it in her eyes. Sora too."
Cody nodded slowly in agreement. "Are you worried?" he asked the bearer of Friendship.
"About Tai?" Matt responded, to which Cody nodded. "Nah… I know I was a little ticked off at first that he refused my help, but he's not going to let us down."
Just then Gomamon re-emerged from under the water, shortly followed by Whamon. "Someone in need of a ride?" the large Digimon said light-heartedly.
.:Tokyo Big Sight, Odaiba, Tokyo:.
"I'm telling you I don't know who these DigiDestined are, I've never heard of them before… please, just let me go!"
Daemon had grabbed hold of the man that had lead the group out, and was still holding him up by the scruff of his collar. The others had since fled back into the convention centre. The man was pleading to be let go, trying his best to free himself from the monster's grip. "I don't believe you." Daemon growled tightening his grip a little more.
"It's the truth!" the man exclaimed.
Daemon growled and realising he was getting nowhere, he tossed the man aside onto the ground. "Pathetic humans." He huffed under his breath as he watched the man scramble to his feet and run away. He then spread his wings and lifted himself off the ground and up into the air. He flew up and rested on top of the roof of the convention centre. He then looked out around his surroundings. From his time in the human world all those years ago he had almost forgotten how big and packed with buildings the place was. "Hmm… perhaps I need to drop a hint to my presence…" he pondered to himself. In his left hand he formed a sphere of dark energy within his palm. He threw it down towards the ground and it struck the walkway that went over the highway and under the train tracks. The bridge exploded and crumbled to pieces, leaving a gaping hole as smoke began to rise into the air…
.:Palette Town, Odaiba, Tokyo:.
Smoke erupted, and the quietness was disturbed as the 'Palette Town' sign at the entrance to the shopping complex was destroyed with a single blast from ChaosGallantmon's spear. The dark warrior Digimon continued to blow up anything in his sight, whether it was something as meaningless as a lamppost or a much bigger target such as an advertising sign. He swooped down approaching a row of parked cars that were just opposite the Ferris wheel. He fired up more energy within his spear before unleashing a laser beam, guiding it straight through the line of cars destroying them as he flew overhead. Once he had finished he ascended back up into the air and looked down at the trail of smouldering vehicles. He then paused, sensing he wasn't alone and glanced up to his left to see Craniamon standing on top of one of the Ferris wheel cabins watching him.
"What are you doing here?" ChaosGallantmon grunted.
Craniamon shook his head slightly. "You're wasting your energy ChaosGallantmon," he warned. "You should be saving your strength for when you find the DigiDestined. Not taking pot shots at anything in your path."
ChaosGallantmon huffed in response. "I'm getting bored of this game of hide and seek." He snapped back. "I've been searching everywhere for them. I don't see why we can't just destroy this whole place and get it over with." He turned around, preparing to fire a much stronger attack in the direction of the residential area that was opposite the Ferris wheel…
"Don't leave yourself vulnerable ChaosGallantmon. Do you want to end up the same way as Dianamon and ShadowSeraphimon?"
ChaosGallantmon froze, ceasing his attack before he unleashed it. "What?" he lowered his spear and turned back around to face Craniamon. "ShadowSeraphimon too?"
Craniamon nodded. "Wisemon just told me he was defeated in the harbour not long ago. I was just on my way over there now. If they have just defeated ShadowSeraphimon the DigiDestined might still be within that area."
ChaosGallantmon growled, his grip tightening on his spear and shield. Out of rage he fired a single but powerful blast from his spear which soared through the air, causing Craniamon to glide out of its path. It hit one of the lower Ferris wheel cabins, blasting it to pieces. "Then let's go." He grunted. "Once we find those humans they'll find I won't be so easily beat."
The two mega Digimon turned to leave in the direction of the harbour. But as they did, they caught sight of the smoke rising up into the air from in front of Tokyo Big Sight. "What's that?" Craniamon wondered.
Just then, there was the faint sound of an explosion and another plume of smoke rose up into the air close to the other.
"Perhaps it is the DigiDestined…Let's move." ChaosGallantmon replied before he and Craniamon set off towards the convention centre….
.:Izzy's lab, Minato, Tokyo:.
In Izzy's lab, Haruhiko and Jim were sitting at their computers still working hard on trying to identify the problem within their DDS system. They had just stumbled across something unusual within the data and were analysing it further. Izzy's wife Kichi was sitting at her husband's desk watching them. She briefly turned her attention to the television on the wall which was showing the news station. The sound was muted but she couldn't take her eyes off the images that were being broadcast of the destruction and sightings of some of the Digimon still loose in the city.
Just then, the double doors opened catching everyone's attention. Izzy walked in, soon followed by his son and then the rest of the group.
"Izzy, Jonathon!" Kichi jumped to her feet and hurried over and hugged her husband and son.
Haruhiko glanced up from his computer and noticed his daughter enter the room. "Sora…" he gasped, a little surprised to see her. He rose from his seat and left his desk to greet her.
Kichi continued to hug her family. "I'm so glad you're both alright." She said with a sigh of relief as the others walked past her into the room. She then paused when BlackWarGreymon, Leomon and the rest of the Digimon group entered.
"Don't worry," Izzy reassured when she noticed the slight look of uncertainty in his wife's eyes. "These are our friends. They've come to help us."
"Good timing Izzy," Jim said once Izzy had left his wife's side and walked over to the desk. "We've just come across some unusual data within the programme. It looks like a virus, and a very sneaky one at that. It was well hidden in our system which is why we kept missing it."
Izzy examined the data on the screen. "So that was blocking the signals from all the Digimon coming through?" he asked, to which Joe's brother nodded.
"From the data we've analysed it happened at the same time Myotismon invaded the city." Jim added.
"Is that why none of our digivices have been picking up Digimon signals either?" TK asked.
Jim nodded. "Most likely."
"But you can fix it now, right?" MJ asked, standing next to her father.
Izzy walked over to his own desk and sat down. "Of course. It'll take a few minutes though."
Kichi watched her husband for a few moments as he began to work on the programme before she cast a glance over the large group of Digimon in the room. "Well whilst we're waiting why don't I make us all some snacks? I'm sure you Digimon could do with an energy boost." She said with a smile, causing Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon to grin at the mention of food.
"I'll help you," Mimi added as she followed Izzy's wife into the other room.
Over in the corner of the room by the window, Sora had just finished explaining to her father everything that had happened since she had arrived home. Haruhiko had noticed the absence of his son in law and granddaughter when everyone had arrived and naturally he had been concerned since the last time he had seen Tai was when he had left to rescue Dawn. He was relieved to hear the rescue had been successful, but now he was concerned once more having learnt they were now in some dark underworld.
"I can't stop worrying about them Dad," Sora admitted. "It's not just the Digimon they might encounter… the Dark Ocean alone has tormented Kari and Ken in the past and the evil energies in the Dark Area will be even stronger."
"It's natural to feel that way… I'm worried too, but I have a feeling they'll be fine Sora," Haruhiko tried to reassure, placing a hand on his daughter's shoulder. "I know Dawn's still only young, but she's a tough little kid. She's just like her father."
"That's what worries me…" Sora replied light heartedly, smiling slightly. "If they just get a little too hot-headed it could have consequences. Even the slightest negative thought could overpower them in that place."
Haruhiko smiled a little. "You know, it may not be plain to see, but Dawn does have some of you in her. She may take mostly after Tai, but she's strong-minded like you."
"Your father's right Sora." Biyomon chirped up. "I'm worried about them too, and I know they can get into trouble together most of the time… like the time they were helping you redecorate the bedroom and you left them alone for five minutes and returned to find them having a paint fight…" she said, causing her partner to smile. "But they won't let us down. Whatever the Dark Area throws at them I'm sure they'll come through it okay."
"I know Biyo." Sora said. "Maybe I'm just over worrying..."
.:Dark Ocean, Digital World:.
"Agumon?! Dad?!" Dawn called out across the beach as she wandered along the sand. "Hello?" she came to a stop and took a moment to look around her surroundings again. There still wasn't any sign of anyone, and thankfully no sign of that Digimon that had been trapped here years ago. She tried to remember as much as she could what had happened when they had passed through the gate as it would give her a clue as to where her partner and father might have landed. She closed her eyes for a moment and thought as hard as she could, but all she could remember was ShadowSeraphimon's attack hitting WarGreymon, and that's when she had slipped out of his grip and began to fall down towards the beach…
She sighed, and continued on her way. As she made her way along the shore she began to notice the beach looked damaged in some places.
The sand was uneven, as if it had been blasted apart in places creating small craters. On the cliff side chunks of rock had been broken off and were lying in piles on the ground. One particular pile of large rocks looked like it was blocking the entrance to a cave. It definitely looked as if a fight had happened here.
Dawn wandered in between two of the holes in the sand, peering down to see one was quite deep. Lying at the bottom seemed to be a part of a trident or something. "I wonder what happened here…" she thought aloud. As she was about to turn and walk away, she happened to glance up in the direction of the ocean. She jumped in surprise and stumbled back a little.
Standing almost waist deep in the water was a strange looking creature. All of its features were hidden in black, except for its glowing red eyes that were looking directly at the Kamiya girl.
Dawn quickly looked around, wondering where it had come from. It was just standing there, staring at her. "Uhh…" Feeling a little uneasy, she began to walk backwards, keeping her eyes on it as she did. But she failed to notice one of the holes behind her. As she stepped back and her foot didn't touch the sand she lost her balance, almost falling in. She momentarily took her eyes off the creature as she steadied herself over the edge. Once she had regained her balance she looked back out to the water, only to see the creature was now standing on the sand about a hundred yards from her. She jumped back in surprise, this time falling into the hole. "Whoa!" she landed on her back, a cloud of dust and sand settling over her.
The creature soon appeared at the edge of the shallow hole looking down at her.
Dawn rested her weight on her elbows as she looked up, narrowing her eyes a little. "What are you?" she demanded. "Are you a Digimon?"
The creature didn't speak; instead it simply stretched out its long arm down to her.
Dawn frowned as she hesitated for a moment as she continued to stare at it suspiciously. She didn't know what to make of it. It didn't represent any sort of Digimon she had seen before, and due its silence and non existence expression she had no idea if its intentions were good or not. But, if it was intending on hurting her surely it would have by now? Sighing she slowly lifted her arm up.
The creature pulled her up, allowing her to climb out of the hole. "I sense you have great power…" it finally spoke, glancing down to where it was still holding Dawn's arm.
Dawn, a little surprised it had finally spoken, took a large step back, roughly shrugging off its grip. "What?"
"You are strong. I sensed a great strength was present on the shore, but I never would have guessed it would be another human. This is where our master had fallen. We could use someone as strong as you to help defend ourselves against other Digimon, such as the one who destroyed our master. This was his ocean, and we must have a new ruler."
"Forget it," Dawn huffed. "I have more important things to do. I need to find out how to get to the Dark Area, not to play around being somebody's princess."
"The Dark Area?" the creature questioned as the Kamiya girl turned and began to walk away. "Why would you want to go to such a place filled with evil energies?"
Dawn paused for a moment, briefly glancing back. "You might have your own problems, but so do we. There's something important there that we need to take care of and we don't have a lot of time."
"I must warn you, we have watched Digimon pass through to the Dark Area and they have not returned."
Dawn stopped, pausing for a moment before she turned around to look back at the creature once more. "Wait… do you know how to get there?" she asked. But then, she suddenly froze. Looking past the creature she saw there were now two more, standing almost waist deep in the water.
"Yes we do," the creature spoke a little chillingly as another one emerged from underneath the water. "But we would be fools to let someone as strong as you go…"
Dawn slowly backed up as more of the creatures appeared from the water. She narrowed her eyes, clenching her fists as she watched them slowly make their way onto the sand…
.:Tokyo Big Sight, Odaiba, Tokyo:.
MetalGarurumon and Imperialdramon Fighter Mode both touched down on the roof of the convention centre, landing on the helipad. Matt, Davis and Ken jumped down from their partners and looked around. The area was quiet, but they could see the damage left from the explosions earlier on the ground below. Matt wandered near to the edge of the part of the roof that the helipad was situated on. He peered down at the large empty square below.
"I don't see anything…" he commented as MetalGarurumon approached, standing beside him.
"Perhaps we're too late?" the mega Digimon commented.
Both Davis and Ken also wandered across opposite ends of the helipad. "Akina said there were people in danger…" the latter said looking out across the city. "I hope no one was hurt."
"Perhaps we should head down into the convention centre?" Davis suggested. "Then Akina can give us some more information on what happened. She may have seen which way the Digimon went."
Just then, the sound of a low cunning chuckle could be heard, causing the three men to stop. "Well, well DigiDestined… we finally meet again."
Matt and MetalGarurumon quickly turned around at the sound of the voice. He, along with Davis and Ken began to make their way back into the centre of the helipad where Imperialdramon was still standing; keeping their attention in the direction of where the voice had come from. Before long, Daemon emerged into view, floating up from where he had been hiding just below the roof on the opposite side of the convention centre.
Davis gasped a little under his breath. "Daemon…" he muttered through gritted teeth.
Matt, a little stunned but also not at all surprised giving what they had done earlier, clenched his fists. Their worst case scenario after opening that portal to the Dark Ocean had now been confirmed…
Daemon touched down on the edge of the roof. "I must say I'm a little disappointed you don't seem all that surprised to see me after all this time…" he remarked.
"Let's just say regarding recent events that have happened we had a gut feeling you might show up." Ken replied calmly.
Daemon simply smiled. "Then you will know why I am here. We have unfinished business DigiDestined. It may have taken longer than I originally planned but I am finally free to get my revenge on you after you trapped me in that Dark Ocean." He sniped.
"So you've been holding onto that grudge all these years? That's not healthy dude." Davis mocked.
"Did you really think I would let you get away with it? Do you not remember the last time we fought? I said I would be back, and that I would not take you so lightly next time. You're going to see my true strength now."
MetalGarurumon growled, taking a couple of steps forward. "It won't match up to ours." He grunted before he charged forward.
Daemon ascended up off the roof and into the air. He formed two dark spheres of energy in both of his hands before he unleashed one down at Matt's partner before he flung the other directly at Imperialdramon.
MetalGarurumon jumped to the left dodging the blast, whilst Imperialdramon reacted quickly and scooped up Davis, Ken and Matt in his arms before leaping up off the roof just missing the attack as it exploded into the helipad. He descended down allowing the three men to jump down safely onto the ground.
"This shouldn't take long…" Daemon humoured himself before he charged down preparing to attack once more.
"Splendor Blade!" Imperialdramon manifested a sword of light from his gauntlet and swung it in front of him, blocking the oncoming Daemon. He could feel Daemon's strength as the demon Digimon now had hold of his sword attempting to push him back. Imperialdramon tried to stand his ground, but the pressure from Daemon was greater and caused his feet to slide back digging into the ground.
MetalGarurumon landed on the ground and sprinted across and skidded to a halt near to the two Digimon. "Giga Missile!" he launched a missile from his chest, blasting Daemon from the side and throwing him away from Imperialdramon.
Daemon got to his feet and dusted off his cloak. "You're fighting with one less Digimon than you were last time. I can only see one conclusion to this fight."
"And that conclusion is you vaporizing into a cloud of data." Imperialdramon threatened before he lunged forward. "Imperial Kick!" he jumped up and swung his leg around, striking Daemon across the side of the head and knocking him back down onto the ground. He then manifested his sword once more and leapt up preparing to impale it down into the demon Digimon.
Daemon reacted quickly and dodged the attack, teleporting himself just out of the way causing Imperialdramon to plunge his sword into the ground.
"Metal Wolf Claw!" MetalGarurumon opened all the hidden weapons on his body and fired his missiles.
Daemon turned so he was facing the oncoming attack. He raised his right hand and unleashed his Evil Inferno attack. The flames engulfed the missiles burning them up instantly before they had chance to reach him. "I'm afraid our reunion will only be a short one." He said as Imperialdramon and MetalGarurumon regrouped next to each other. "As much as I would like to I don't have time to play around as I know there are more of you out there still to find." He then cupped his hands together before slowly moving them apart, forming a sphere of dark energy which slowly began to grow in size. As quick as a flash he unleashed the attack which then exploded into a huge thick beam.
The beam travelled at such speed it struck Imperialdramon and MetalGarurumon before they had chance to move. The force was so powerful it knocked them off their feet and sent them flying backwards. They were thrown across the length of the square and hit the ground still moving before they both crashed into one of the four large supports underneath the convention centre.
"Imperialdramon!" "MetalGarurumon!" Davis, Ken and Matt all ran over to their fallen partners.
MetalGarurumon grunted as he tried to push himself up, but Imperialdramon had landed on top of him.
"Man, after so many years out of action I thought he'd be a little rusty…" Davis remarked. He then turned as he heard Daemon chuckle, still standing in the same spot where he had released the attack.
"Did you really think all that time in the Dark Ocean I would have sat around just waiting?" Daemon called to them. "There were plenty of Digimon there to test my power and keep me as sharp as I am now." He then began to prepare another attack. He observed Tokyo Big Sight, before smiling a little to himself as an idea came to mind. "Just another blast like that and you and your Digimon are history…"
The attack grew in size, and Matt, Davis and Ken all tensed up as they watched on…
"You!"
Daemon suddenly ceased his attack before he released it, and his eyes widened a little in surprise at the sound of the voice. He turned his head and looked up to see ChaosGallantmon and Craniamon hovering in the air above just next to the convention centre. Daemon relaxed his stance and smiled somewhat in amusement. "Well, well… out of all the pathetic Digimon that exist I never thought I would find myself running into you two here."
The two mega Digimon descended down lower to the ground in front of him; unbeknown to them they had their backs to the DigiDestined. Matt, Davis and Ken froze as they saw the two members of the Nightmare Six appear in view. They slowly began to back up, trying to hide in the shadows underneath the convention centre…
"What are you doing here?" ChaosGallantmon demanded.
"That is none of your business." Daemon spat back. "I am in the middle of something very important and I don't have time to be entertained by the likes of you… Although I'll admit I am a little curious as to why you two are in this world… I've never known you fools to leave the Dark Area before."
ChaosGallantmon growled, tightening his grip on his spear. "We too have an important job to do, and if you are wise enough Daemon you will stay out of our way."
Daemon discreetly cast a glance past the two Digimon to where the DigiDestined had been. He growled under his breath once he saw they had vanished…
"It looks as though you have been causing some trouble…" Craniamon remarked, observing the damage around him. "I hope you haven't been fighting with those humans."
"And what is it to you if I have? I don't have to explain my actions to you. I wouldn't think you of all Digimon would be interested in powerless humans-" Daemon shot back. Just then a realisation then hit him, and he chuckled somewhat. "The DigiDestined…" he said, earning a reaction from the two Digimon. "Now I understand… There is only one reason you would come all this way… and I suspect we are both here for that same reason…"
ChaosGallantmon thrust his sword in Daemon's direction threateningly. "Lord Grandracmon has given us the orders to destroy the DigiDestined!"
Craniamon nodded in agreement. "And our lord will not be happy once he learns you have decided to show your face after all this time. You're going to wish you stayed where ever it was you were hiding."
Daemon chuckled somewhat. "Hiding? You think I've been hiding all this time? I see Grandracmon still thinks highly of himself if he thinks I've been cowering away in fear of him. I have unfinished business with the DigiDestined and after many years of waiting I'm not about to let that overgrown beast have the pleasure of destroying them. I guess I'll have to make sure your lord and master doesn't find out I'm here so he doesn't get in my way… Double Dust!" without warning, he thrust his right fist forward and fired a blast of magical energy.
Craniamon and ChaosGallantmon both jumped out of the way, just missing the attack which then struck the ground. Craniamon was the first of the two to make his move. He flew forward and raised his Duo Solar Spear above his head. He swung it down with all his strength but Daemon simply swooped to the side out of the way, causing him to slice through nothing but air until he hit the ground.
"Chaos Crusher!" ChaosGallantmon fired a blast from his shield. It missed Daemon and hit the corner of the convention centre, corroding it slightly.
As the three Digimon continued to fight, further back underneath the convention centre, Matt peered out from where they had been hiding.
"What's going on Matt?" Gabumon asked who had recently de-digivolved along with Veemon and Wormmon.
"It looks as though they are fighting each other…" Matt replied as he watched Daemon unleashed two spheres of energy, which struck both mega Digimon. Despite being outnumbered two to one, Daemon was holding up pretty well on his own, which only concerned the bearer of Friendship more.
"Well that's a relief…" Davis commented as he appeared behind Matt, seeing ChaosGallantmon charge before swinging his spear.
Daemon swung his arm strongly, swiping the spear away. He then turned and dealt a powerful punch at Craniamon. "I see some things haven't changed. You two are still predictable." Again, he quickly formed two spheres of energy in his hands and threw them at Craniamon one after the other, although Craniamon easily blocked them using each end of his spear.
"Chaos Shot!" ChaosGallantmon fired a beam of energy from his spear.
"Evil Inferno!" Daemon turned and released his high-temperature hellfire. It engulfed ChaosGallantmon's attack, cancelling it out and carried on its course directly towards the dark warrior Digimon.
ChaosGallantmon reacted quickly and raised his shield to defend himself. The attack hit the shield, and its power forced him back. Daemon continued his attack with full force, trying to break ChaosGallantmon's defence. He smiled to himself as he could see ChaosGallantmon was starting to struggle and the pressure was becoming too much for his shield. The shield cracked slightly, and just before it was about to break completely, Daemon noticed out of the corner of his eye Craniamon heading for him preparing to attack. As quick as a flash, and still firing his Evil Inferno, he spun around to face Craniamon aiming it at him.
Unfortunately for Craniamon he wasn't able to react fast enough against the speed of Daemon's movement. The Evil Inferno attack hit him head on, engulfing him in a wave of fire and burning up his body into pieces of data in the blink of an eye…
ChaosGallantmon froze and gasped lowering his shield as he witnessed Craniamon's date disappear before his eyes. "Cr-Craniamon…" he managed to choke out in disbelief.
Matt, Davis, Ken and their Digimon also watched on in amazement….
Daemon smiled as he finally stopped his attack and turned back around to face the dark warrior Digimon, his smile turning into a grin once he saw the look on his face.
ChaosGallantmon was speechless. He remained still just staring at Daemon for a few moments. Now fearing more for his own safety, he backed up a little before turning and flying away as fast as he could.
Daemon chuckled as he watched ChaosGallantmon flea in the direction of the bay. "You can run back to your master but you won't be able to hide…" he then cast a glance over his shoulder to where he had seen the DigiDestined last, unaware they were further back. "It seems the DigiDestined have earned more enemies in my absence. It now looks as though I may have to take out Grandracmon first if I want the pleasure of destroying those humans all to myself... Don't think you've got away again DigiDestined, once I've taken care of Grandracmon I'll be back to finish you off." He then spread his wings and flew off in the same direction as ChaosGallantmon…
Once the demon Digimon was out of sight, the three men and their Digimon emerged from underneath the convention centre, observing the damage left from the fight.
"I knew opening up that portal was a bad idea," Davis said with a sigh. "If things weren't hard enough already, we've just made things doubly hard for ourselves."
"Don't be too defeatist Davis," Ken tried to reassure him. "Remember we have more power than we did the last time we faced Daemon."
"But we barely made a scratch on him just then, and you just saw what he did to Craniamon. He snuffed him out like he was a birthday candle!" Davis exclaimed.
Matt walked a few steps ahead, looking up in the direction Daemon had gone. "We need to follow him." He said.
"What?" Davis turned to face the blonde haired man.
"You heard what Daemon said. By the sounds of it he's going to take on Grandracmon himself. Something's going on here and we need to find out exactly what."
"It sounds as if Grandracmon and Daemon aren't the best of friends." Gabumon commented with a hint of sarcasm.
"Which is sort of good news for us. If those two teamed up together against us we'd be toast." Veemon remarked.
"Let's just hope we get lucky and they both destroy each other…" Davis said light heartedly.
.:No.6 Battery Island, Odaiba, Tokyo:.
ChaosGallantmon flew in between two tall apartment complexes before he descended down, passing over the beach heading for castle on the battery island. But before he could reach it, a shot of energy struck him from behind and he was blasted out of the sky. He cried out as he fell, crashing onto the frozen bay below, dropping his shield in the process, before skidding to a stop in a heap. He cringed and looked up to see Daemon emerge from behind one of the buildings.
"You thought you could escape me did you?" Daemon called down to him as he descended down towards the bay. He prepared two spheres of energy in both his hands. "You're not going to escape the same fate as your friend Craniamon." He unleashed both attacks one after the other.
ChaosGallantmon leapt up out of the way just before the attacks exploded into the ice. He sprinted, gaining some speed before he glided low over the ice, retrieving his shield before he ascended up into the air so he was level with Daemon. "You may have destroyed Craniamon but you're not going to find me an easy target." He warned.
Daemon chuckled. "Then why did you run? Evil Inferno!" He fired his fire attack once more.
ChaosGallantmon growled angrily. He soared up through the air before swinging his spear, slicing it through the attack disabling it. He then lunged forward and thrust his shield forward, releasing a dark wave from within it. "Chaos Crusher!"
The wave hit Daemon, knocking him back slightly. "Hammer Knuckle!" he quickly recovered, and in the blink of an eye he flew forward. He clasped his hands together and just as he was above ChaosGallantmon he slammed them down right on top of the dark warrior's head.
ChaosGallantmon was stunned, and he was thrown down onto the ice. He groaned, a little dazed from the sudden blow to the head.
Daemon positioned himself directly above the fallen mega Digimon. "Not an easy target huh?" he mocked. "Evil Inferno!" Before he had chance to release his attack, a blast struck him from the side. It took him by surprise and the force knocked him down onto the ice. He growled under his breath as he pushed himself up. He looked over in the direction of where the attack had come from to see Grandracmon standing on the edge of the battery island. "Grandracmon…" he said with a hint of surprise as he got to his feet. "I must say I'm a little surprised to see you back in your true form… the last I heard Azulongmon had trapped you in a much weaker body after your one and only attempt to take over the Digital World. Decided to take over the human world instead?"
Grandracmon snarled before he leapt off the edge of the island and landed hard on the ice below, causing it to crack slightly. "What are you doing here?" he demanded before he began to approach him. "You haven't been seen or heard from in a long time and you show up now?"
"I don't see why I should explain myself to you. You're not in the Dark Area now… you have no authority in this world." Daemon replied smugly, causing the beast Digimon to growl more.
"He's here for the same reason we are, my lord." ChaosGallantmon spoke as he got to his feet. "He wants the DigiDestined."
"The DigiDestined?" Grandracmon questioned as he glanced at ChaosGallantmon, coming to a stop. He then looked back over at Daemon suspiciously. "What do you want with them?"
"I have some unfinished business to attend to." Daemon simply replied. "I've waited for this day for a long time, and I'm not about to stand back and let you have all the fun."
"Is that a challenge?" Grandracmon growled taking a threatening step forward. "You should know better than to cross my path Daemon. I too have a long lasting feud with the DigiDestined and no one, especially you, are going to get in my way of finally destroying them. Surely you haven't forgotten the power I truly posses? Especially now I am free of that weakling body of Myotismon. You and the rest of the Seven Great Demon Lords could never stand up against me and now here you are challenging me one-on-one?" he scoffed. "You are more foolish than I thought."
"Do not underestimate me Grandracmon." Daemon simply warned. "You may have thought you had won our little scuffles in the past but you do not know the true power I posses."
Grandracmon gave him a piercing look, narrowing his eyes. He then formed a sphere of energy in the palm of his right hand. "Then perhaps it's time we found out who truly does hold the most power…" He said. In a flash he unleashed his attack.
Daemon leapt up into the air just missing the attack before it exploded into the ice. "Indeed we shall…" he commented before he soared down, bringing his left arm back. "Slash Nail!" The claws on his left hand grew in size as he slashed them down across Grandracmon's face. He then immediately swung his right fist up, dealing a powerful punch before swinging his leg and kicking Grandracmon to the ground. "There's only going to be one Digimon who will be remembered as the one who destroyed the DigiDestined; and that will be me… Evil Inferno!"
Grandracmon growled and threw his arms out either side releasing a small shockwave. It repelled the fire attack back onto Daemon, who cringed as the flames seared his body slightly. He then got back to his feet, his eyes continuously fixed on the demon Digimon.
"My lord," ChaosGallantmon said as he floated down just behind his master. "Perhaps I should call upon the rest of the Nightmare Six-"
"No." Grandracmon interrupted sharply, his focus still on Daemon. "I can take down this tedious demon myself. Get back out there and find those DigiDestined." He ordered.
Daemon chuckled as ChaosGallantmon followed his orders and disappeared in a flash. "You may be underestimating me Grandracmon." His hands began to glow as he built up energy within them. He then cupped them together and fired a huge bream of dark blue magical energy.
Grandracmon quickly formed an attack similar to Daemon's and fired his own beam of dark red energy. It hit Daemon's directly and both energy beams carried on against the other, although it was an even match. Grandracmon growled as he continued to control his attack. He could feel the force of Daemon's against his own, which to his surprise was a little stronger than he had anticipated. He committed more strength into his and pushed on, gradually gaining a slight advantage. He chuckled to himself as he could see his dark red beam slowly swallowing up Daemon's. "Perhaps you have underestimated me." He said. "I suspect the only reason you have come here to face me alone is that you thought I was still trapped in Myotismon's body."
Daemon grunted as he felt himself sliding back a little on the ice. He pushed his arms out straight again, and the extra strength gave his attack enough to regain what it had lost moments ago. "I will admit I was expecting to face Myotismon, but seeing you back in your true form has only fuelled my desire more to destroy you, not only so I can get my revenge on the DigiDestined for trapping me in the Dark Ocean all this time, but also for all the time I have lived in your shadow in the Dark Area!"
Grandracmon scoffed a laugh. "So that's where you've been all these years? Imprisoned by the DigiDestined...In the Dark Ocean of all places… How pathetic."
Daemon growled. "Pathetic?" he spat. "The DigiDestined only imprisoned me there because I was too powerful for them to defeat. It was a clever little trick they preformed, but for that they are now going to feel the full force of my wrath… after I have eliminated you!" he proclaimed. He gave one last surge of energy into his attack at exactly the same time as Grandracmon did with his own.
With the power building up, the two energy beams suddenly exploded sending a massive shock wave across the bay…
.:Decks Tokyo Beach, Odaiba, Tokyo:.
Close to the shopping complex, Matt, Davis, Ken and their Digimon ran across the street heading for the beach. They had just reached the sidewalk when the effects of the shockwave hit them causing them to flinch, and with still enough strength to blow out a couple of windows in some of the parked cars.
"What was that?" Wormmon asked, clinging onto Ken's shoulder a little tighter.
"It looks like we've missed the start of the show…" Davis commented before the three men carried on cutting across the sidewalk and down the path that would take them to the beach.
Just as the sound of another explosion echoed across the bay, they came to a stop in an area that was covered with some trees and bushes just on the edge of the sand so they could remain unseen but be able to witness what was happening over the frozen water. They watched as Grandracmon and Daemon continued to fight, firing blasts of energy and swinging punches and kicks at each other. Not all of their attempts were accurate as some stray attacks hit nearby buildings and boats that had been stuck in the ice.
"As much as I would love to see these two destroy each other… this fight could end up destroying most of the city." Davis commented.
Ken nodded in agreement. "But there's not a lot we can do. We certainly can't jump in and take on both of them at the same time."
"I wonder if Daemon knows Grandracmon is practically indestructible at the moment," Veemon pondered.
"Which in that case he's fighting a losing battle." Wormmon added.
Matt watched as Daemon blocked an attack from Grandracmon. He flinched as the attack ricocheted off Daemon's arm and blasted the side of one of the smaller battery islands. "Now would be the perfect time to take out the rest of the Nightmare Six whilst Grandracmon is distracted." He said.
"We better tell the others what's happening." Gabumon said, to which his human partner nodded in response.
.:Izzy's lab, Minato, Tokyo:.
"Okay… just a couple more tweaks and… there! That should do it!" Izzy thought aloud as he typed some codes into the computer. The large plasma screen on the wall switched on displaying the map of the city. One by one red dots began to appear in different locations across Tokyo as the DDS began to pick up the signals of all the Digimon. A few moments later the names of the Digimon appeared above the dots. "Prodigious! It's working again." He smiled.
Jonathon joined his father's side as he looked up at the screen. "There's still a lot of Digimon out there Dad."
"I'm afraid we'll have to deal with them later. Right now our priority is destroying Grandracmon and the Nightmare Six. They pose a much greater threat." Izzy replied.
As he had been speaking, Stacey had been looking at the screen. She left her cousin's side and wandered over for a closer look. "Hey Uncle TK," she said, catching her uncle's attention. "What was the name of that Digimon you said you trapped in the Dark Ocean?"
Before TK could answer, Yolei had noticed Daemon's signal on the screen. "Oh no… it's Daemon…" she gasped; now catching the attention of everyone else in the room.
.:Dark Ocean, Digital World:.
"Tai, please promise me you won't go there. It's not a nice place, trust me."
"Kari if those things were after you then the chances are they will try again. We can't let them get away with it."
"It's not that simple Tai. I don't even know how I got there. I was just suddenly pulled through into the dimension. It's not like travelling to and from the Digital World via a portal. I don't think those creatures will try and come for me again but if I ever start feeling the way I did before I was taken I promise I will tell you straight away if you promise me you will never go to that place."
Tai sighed. "Alright… I promise."
Tai opened his eyes, blinking a few times to allow his vision to focus. Even though that conversation had happened twenty five years ago it was suddenly vividly echoing through his mind as he woke up. Maybe it was the fact back then when his sister had told him what had happened when she had been pulled into the Dark Ocean he had promised her he wouldn't try and go there himself. After Kari had told him those Digimon had tried to take her as their queen he had insisted they go back and take care of them before they tried to take her again. But Kari had pleaded with him not to, and he had reluctantly agreed.
And yet here he was; now in the Dark Ocean. He groaned a little as he turned over onto his back, his body aching a little. He didn't know how long he had been out for. He looked up to see tall half dead trees towering over him. The trees had very little foliage and the murky grey sky could be seen through the branches. He hadn't had chance to see his sister as they had left rather abruptly. He had wanted to tell her that everything would be okay and he would be back soon. The last thing he wanted was his sister to be back at home worrying out of her mind.
As Tai sat up, he looked around the dark forest now realising he was alone. "Dawn?" he called out. "Agumon?" He took a moment to try and remember what had happened. All he could remember was WarGreymon passing through the gate but as it closed behind them two of ShadowSeraphimon's spheres had also managed to pass through. After that had been a blur and he couldn't quite remember if they had hit WarGreymon or not…
"Agumon?" he called out, this time much louder, but there was no answer. The forest was rather quiet, and thankfully there didn't seem to be any other Digimon around. Just then over the silence, he picked up the faint sound of gentle waves hitting the shore. Getting to his feet, he hurried along making the short journey from amongst woodland and out onto the edge of the cliff that overlooked the ocean.
Tai stared for a moment, slightly in awe. It was like all bright colours had been sucked out of the place. It definitely matched the description Kari had given him. Everywhere was dull and depressing, and the more he looked at the beach the worse he felt having not been there for his sister when she had been dragged here all those years ago. As he continued to look around, he felt a little cold and an eerie feeling washed over him slightly.
"Tai! Over here!"
Tai snapped out of his thoughts and turned to his right to see his Agumon running towards him along the cliff edge, with Dawn's Agumon following closely behind. "Agumon… where's Dawn?" he asked once the two Digimon had reached him.
"We don't know… we thought she might be with you." His partner replied.
"Oh great…" Tai groaned. "We've only just got here and I've already lost my daughter… We need to find her Agumon. I don't want her left alone in a place like this. She could be lost in the forest, or she could be-"
"Right there!" his daughter's Digimon exclaimed pointing as he had glanced down onto the beach, to which Tai quickly turned to look. But they soon noticed she wasn't alone…
"Who are those guys?" Tai's Agumon gasped as they saw the creatures slowly making their way across the sand and towards Dawn who was backing away.
"The Divermon changed into these strange looking creatures. They were dark… with piercing red eyes…"
Tai froze as he remembered the description his sister had given him of the creatures that had tried to take her. "Oh no…" he mumbled. "Dawn!"
To be continued…
